While playing a tabletop role-playing game with friends, He Jiayin transmigrates into the body of Silas Noel, a professor of literary history at Lafami University. Meanwhile, the city of Lafami is in an uproar due to the escape of a heretic…

…Wait, isn’t this the storyline of the tabletop game he was running?

But he’s the Game Master, not a player?!

He Jiayin becomes the Keeper of Secrets in this world.

A student’s exam is laid before him: [Professor, please roll the dice to determine if this student passes.]

A colleague’s paper is handed to him: [Professor, please roll the dice to decide if this paper gets published.]

A heretic is fleeing from pursuit: [Professor, please roll the dice to determine if the Church’s pursuers find him.]

A transcendent being is advancing in rank: [Professor, the dice are ready.]

A man is confessing his feelings to him: [Here, take the dice.]

He Jiayin: “…”

*

[You catch a glimpse of the Divine.]

[You must make a Willpower check.]

[99/100]

[Alas, you are destined for a critical failure.]

[…You gaze at the Divine with obsessive, fervent eyes.]

[You will become the first follower of the Divine. You will follow the great God of Time and Fate—the Keeper of Secrets, Silas Noel—toward a new world.]

[…By the way, you should confess first.]

—The Keeper’s dice, reserved.

Bro the world-building in this story was elite. I loved how rich the mythology was and how the author created this sense of mystery by slowly unveiling details about the various (made-up) religions at play. I like Siles as a MC because he is level-headed despite the absolutely fantastical and often dangerous things that are happening around him. I also like that while he is definitely very smart, he doesn’t feel OP because the problems that he faces require more than just wit to overcome. Warning: there isn’t a whole... more>> lot of romance in this story even though there is a ML who shows up later. I personally didn’t mind it so much even though I’m usually a romance junkie because the plot was riveting. I was so invested in finding out what the heck was going on with the shady religious followers because wow were they up to so much nefarious bs. <<less

This particular author has a trait in their writing for me personally where despite finding their work intriguing and well written I find myself getting distracted and disengaged while reading. For now I have reached chapter 51 and no godhood or male lead have appeared so don't go into the book expecting either. But if you like supernatural mystery in a vaguely steampunk otherworldly setting you might like this book a lot.

I have a love/hate relationship with slow burns.

... more>> I keep reading, and at the same time getting frustrated, why isn't the plot moving!!!!

Anyway.

I adore the world building in the novel. It's so vivid and detailed, I felt curiosity about every single things. And, even the details that made me feel, why even say this!!! Made me feel, oh, these details make everything more logical, more...full.

Now, this much world building, makes the novel incredibly slow. 🐌

Don't get me wrong, the plot is moving. Every detail is setting up for it. And MC is piecing clues from everything.

It feels incredible to see the pieces coming together, even tho I keep wishing it was faster...

Anyway, just don't go in hoping for romance, or fast plot, and you'll be fine.

Even after 40 chapters, I can't even guess if ML has been mentioned or not. There's mentions of many Gods, Antinam is one of them, but he isn't God of Time and Fate!? As mentioned in the synopsis, so dunno. <<less

if you've read lord of the mysteries you'd see the similarities in the narrative almost immediately but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing I really liked this novel so far and think it has great potential because of the author's ability to build the relationships between the different characters, unlike other novels that only pay attention to the main characters side of the story as for the romance I didn't reach that part yet 😂. 4.5/5 recommended
