Xiao Yuan bears a heavy responsibility. Because of certain restrictions, he has to get along with a group of scum people. When the mission was completed, the restrictions disappeared, and Xiao Yuan screamed in delight: Ah, this is the taste of freedom! The Demon Lord who treated him as a plaything and infected him with a Gu worm, the junior brother who disliked him, the young Pavilion Master who used his blood to save his own Senior Brother – forgive him for not accompanying them.

Later, Xiao Yuan learned the “face changing technique” and could imitate anyone’s appearance. With this, he starts various businesses: he can become what the clients wanted as long as he got paid enough. The business of Xiao Yuan’s was booming. He earned a lot of money, and big shots from all walks of life came to him admiringly. Then…

Junior Brother: Oh, I will never let Senior Brother leave me again!

Pavilion Master: Xiao Yuan, do you want me to take out my heart to show it to you?!

Demon Lord: What do I need to do for baby to forgive me, how about I let you bully me back?

Wife chasing crematorium burning all over the world, Xiao Yuan smiles: Don’t ask, asking means you’ve never loved before.

With the title like that, no wonder the story is wife-chasing crematorium. Ah, I really, really, really love this genre, and this one was one of the first I've read. It's also a so-called multiple-player crematorium, meaning that there are several characters who mistreat and hurt the MC and, after losing him, go through intense regret and suffering. Here we have a demon lord who thought the MC was his younger brother but it turned out he wasn't, so the demon lord decided it was a good idea to poison... more>> him, infect with an aphrodisiac Gu and sent him on a mission. Another one is the MC's very foul-mouthed shidi who kicked away every kind gesture of the MC towards him. The third one is a sword cultivator who had all the chances to be happy with the MC but failed the MC in the biggest way. Oh well, and there is also the MC's Shizun who abandoned him when the MC needed him the most.

It sounds very abusive but it's actually not that bad. Mainly because the MC has a system-like thing in his mind that not only gives him tasks to fulfil but also warns him about those around him, so the MC really doesn't expect much from people. The MC's appearance is very beautiful but his character is pretty cynical (even though, if you are attentive, you can notice he is not really that cool and indifferent about everything that happens).

The set up for the crematorium is first seventeen chapters. Then the MC "dies" and those who wronged him start to suffer. It's NOT a harem story; only one of them will earn full forgiveness and get the MC's love in the end. But they all suffer deliciously; it was very, very satisfying.

There is a very strong plot in the story. Basically, there is no scene and no character who appears for no reason. Everything will be tied up, some things sooner, some things later. There are many mysteries, big and small, and the reveals were always unexpected for me, absolutely not something I would see beforehand.

The MC is really not a sweet and kind person and by no means he is a weak and gentle shou. He is very kick-ass, quite ruthless and thick-faced. Sometimes he even felt to me being a bit too cold but... I guess this attitude was more than deserved by those who hurt him. He was really fun and refreshing, especially if you're tired of extreme angst. <<less

4.5 stars

This was a good book because I kept reading it wanting to know what happened until it ended. There's a sort of over-arching plot, not just the characters blindly trying to get back to MC's good graces (and it's not even really about that).

Must first speak about the minus 0.5 stars because this is not a good MC with scum MLs and then they all repent and chase after him after the first part. In fact, MC isn't the super good character at the beginning like I was expecting.... more>> Major spoiler (only read if you want clues on the plot and my very bias opinions) :

Spoiler

Not entirely MC's fault but he's super restricted by this system to do this and that and all he wants is to have his dang freedom. He's drained at this point. And the ML's aren't all super scummy either. It's not black and white here. Just want to go through them:

The worst here is XD, the demon lord guy. I don't care much for him, he's the scum in the plot, especially in the beginning.

I actually feel bad for the junior brother, MYY (?), because I think he's a tsundere. He didn't exactly do anything that crosses any line. MC is even a little mean to him in his head because anything good he did to MYY is only because the system made him do it and not willingly.

And lastly, I FELT SO BAD FOR the pavilion sect? That other sect young master GLY. He was a gentleman. He was good, he was NICE. He crossed the line in MC's book for asking MC to give some blood to save his senior brother's life but he was never at the point asking MC to give up his life because he had a PLAN to save both lives. And to be clear, MC was under the suspicion of being the one who harmed the senior brother at this point even though GLY himself didn't believe it. And also, the day that senior was harmed, MC was nearby and could have gone over but system prevented him from doing so (so not his fault but the circumstances weren't good). And also, in exchange for this, MC also made a trade with GLY so in a sense he got something out of it (so MC was actually using GLY too) but he held like a grudge out of this even though GLY risked himself to look for the alternative cure (example ignoring GLY even though he came back and fainted). There's more to this part but even with this bare bones bit, I felt bad for all of them, like victims of the situation.

[collapse]

I think I expected a more good MC turning dark but he was more aware of things already and they get different levels of retaliation too.

Again, spoiler but no major plot:

Spoiler

XD gets one of the biggest retaliation and plot twists midway that I was not expecting, well-deserving of being the biggest scum of the book.

I just want to say GLY suffered the most (Was it necessary?) in the story.

[collapse]

And last of all for anyone just so very curious to know, who is the one ML. Do you really want to know? Okay. ML is
Spoiler

Yes, the one that suffered the most. Thank goodness if not I would have flipped a table. Also, his plot point about the taking blood was wrapped very well later in the book. I can see MC fully forgives (though in the first place I still don't feel he was fully at fault) him as compared to the rest. (Other than MYY who also didn't really do anything but didn't win the race too)

[collapse]

Overall, this was a story that one can't help but read through. <<less

I have to say I loved it! The drama was to my taste and then I was so glad for the way the characters weren’t wish washy so it became super sweet!

I was led to believe I wouldn’t cry because the MC is ruthless According to some reviews and I have to disagree because

Spoiler

The MC does a good job of putting on a front but with context clues, you can see how he suffers for what has happened to him and for the others later on. It’s just that “all have”has given him another perspective and he can understand the how and why of what has happened. I guess he’s like super intuitive when it comes to himself. You see this with how rapidly he realizes that he is biased towards the ML. I cried a lot when he stabbed himself and Xiao Du died lol because he was so upset he had to do that to what was a sweet memory of a brother!

[collapse]

I also don’t think he was too hard on the tsundere like some others think! This novel deals with the yanderes and tsunderes in a realistic manner. I mean tsunderes are just a**holes for no reason like realistically I hate the HES mean because he likes you like how many times did boys get away with bullying me because they “liked” me. Of course I would never believe that that person truly liked me!

(I say this but I like yanderes and tsunderes lol my fav tropes)

The MC is once again my son and I agree with his choice of partner lol.

Spoiler

Does anyone else think the the ML would have been the second ML in another story? Lol

Overall love this novel. I read it raw and now reading it again in English and loving it again!

It's sort of NP to start off with (multiple potential MLs) but the ending is 1x1. The MC doesn't play with the guys feelings, he's not into them personally, just following directions from the "system" (it's not actually a system, MC is not a transmigrator, but it fulfils a system-like role). I prefer novels where the MC is emotionally invested in the romance (just feels more dramatic and emotional in my opinion)... more>> however I also don't mind it if the MC is at least someone that has genuine feelings and motivations and not just treating this as a game. In this story the MC's desires are very logical and sympathetic, and the reason he doesn't have any romantic feelings for the MLs is also logical (ie he always began having some sort of good feelings towards them just as regular people would but after experiencing some type of disappointment he basically lost interest in them... cue the crematorium).

In the end he does develop genuine feelings for only one of the MLs, and the change is slow and quite organic. There's enough sweet chapters at the end to display this.

So actually the MC is an extremely regular person with regular feelings, reactions and emotions. This is emphasised in the novel as people always say his face (extremely gorgeous) doesn't match his personality (very down to earth regular dude). I do find this type of MC who doesn't act like a virg*n Mary and keep trying to help people who have hurt him refreshing but...

Below is some minor spoilers in my review about what my feelings towards the novel and one kinda thing I didn't like.

Spoiler

One of the MLs in particular is written off by the MC from the beginning of the novel and no matter what he does the MC won't change his mind... like after you already hate someone no matter how many revelations you find out about them after or how many sacrifices they make for you, it's like..: whatever, just looking at you makes me uncomfortable so I don't really care. Also you're the one who got me in this mess in the first place so I don't feel touched at all. Which does make sense.

The final pairing is the one that makes the most sense.. the one who's actions are the most forgivable... he's the most upstanding, respectful, supportive and non yandere of the MLs which again makes sense because we all love a yandere in a novel but in real life nobody would actually ever fall in love with someone who tries to possess you or control your movements. And MC is, once again, a regular dude without any extra heroic attributes really.

The final ML is the most likeable of the MLs for sure so even if you read without knowing the final pairing I don't think you'd end up on the wrong ship.

I only have one major gripe that prevented my enjoyment later on in the novel and it's kind of a personal thing that may not bother others.

The first one is what I stated I like about it already... the fact that MC is so normal. But I also don't like it somewhat hahaha. I guess I understand it and find him empathetic. But it is kind of hard to watch him being so so cruel to one of the MLs (although he deserves it). I guess I'm used to MCs that are more forgiving/above it but this MC is not like that. He just wants what he wants (to be free) and cannot change his feelings towards someone just because they've repented so hard. Like I said I understand it for sure and I don't think he's wrong.. but damn it was hard to read some of his actions against one of the MLs (although again I can understand it and I'm not saying it wasn't deserved).

Towards another one of the MLs that really didn't do much to him he was also... in my opinion... unnecessarily heartless for a while. It didn't really fit in with my preferred MC type I guess. Again my personal feelings, some people probably love this attitude.

The other major gripe I have is the MC is not dense when it comes to regular things (like he's reasonably good at tricking others, acting and seeing through other peoples tricks, not like super intelligent or crafty but definitely not dumb) EXCEPT he is unable to tell that ANY of the MLs have genuine feelings for him even when it is so goddamn obvious. I hate hearing his internal dialogue trying to explain away the MLs actions and this type of thing goes on for way longer than necessary and it makes me roll my eyes and disconnect from the novel because it seems illogical.

Like I said I do not need the MC to respond to their feelings... I respect his choice not to like them (although I dont enjoy it as a dramatic choice) but at least goddamn acknowledge it/realize it, which thankfully he eventually does.

So the novel for me is: awesome in the beginning, a bit draggy in the middle, awesome towards the end again.

[collapse]

But overall I still rate this story 5 stars because I'm loving it so much I'm reading it a second time without skipping a single chapter so that says a lot! <<less

2 things I really appreciate about this are the GOOD female characters (not many, but hey!) and the fact that none of the people who hurt MC get off scot-free.

This isn't a phenomenal world-shaking novel, but it's a good and satisfying read. The angst is actually so much better than I expected, since (thanks to the system) MC is prepared and ready for the betrayals. I also feels like he's very rational and fair about dealing out revenge.

Some people get a fierce revenge because they've done absolutely terrible things to... more>> the MC:

Spoiler

XD, especially. And he totally deserves it! What the hell is with the mentality of

"I found my brother!!! NOW I'm gonna keep him by my side"

"oh no, I got the wrong person, he's not my brother, is he refundable? no?"

"actually I don't want to return him, so I'm going to use him and put him in great danger"

"wait actually he is the brother I'm looking for!"

step 1 again: "I found my brother!!! NOW I'm gonna keep him by my side"

......................

And he somehow hopes MC and him will be able to return to being good brothers.

I wanted to personally transmigrate, but then MC actually got a perfect revenge on him, by killing him. Wah, that was so shocking. Well, he doesn't really die, he gets resurrected, but it was a fair price.

I will also give special mention to the Yunjian characters (except for baby GLY). Seriously, I can't say enough about these guys... they were so purely hate-able. GH, LWL, Y-something, sigh, really so happy to see them get what they deserve.

[collapse]

The other characters also get what they deserve due to harming the MC, but to a lesser degree, because after all, they either didn't hurt the MC that much or were forced to do so.

The ML:

Spoiler

If you managed to guess it from the first 20 or so chapters, you're probably right: it's GLY, a.k.a Gu Louyin.

He's a pretty standard cold and stoic type, (think Lan Wangji-like) jade beauty. I do like him though, he has an appropriate sense of priorities. It is explained that actually he didn't at all want to take MC's blood, he was relatively more fine with letting his senior brother pass away instead of MC. However, he was forced to.

Well the option he was given was either they rip out MC's heart or take his blood, so he just took MC's blood while desperately searching for the cure to his senior brother's poisoning.

I also appreciate that he doesn't restrict MC or become extremely possessive. It's also nice to see him supporting the MC, so sweet.

[collapse]

There are a few more very interesting plot points, such as what the "system" actually is, but I won't spoil them here. All in all, this is an enjoyable novel to read, very satisfying and well written with a good plot. <<less

Well, lots of things to write idk where I should start

plot:

Well thought not really mind blowingly original I'd say but still quite enjoyable. I personally didn't get bored it was interesting enough for me. The sects, some twist kinda things, the choice of ML like I liked it all. The ending was nicely put too

... more>> characters:

first of let's start with MC. He is you know the most beautiful enchanting person ever etc this part was kinda cliché but it is the choice of the author so respect them. Other than that I very much loved his character. He suffered a lot in the hands of the people who "loved him" I really think he did the best thing not forgiving those who harmed him. No need to be a saint here no need to for example forgive a tr*sh like XD who
Spoiler

poisoned him betrayed him forced him to get in bed with someone he didn't know and who was an obsessed stalker

[collapse]
XD is a tr*sh I don't wanna talk about him. Tsundere brother was weird didn't like him too much

overall:

One thing I can say that I didn't really like about this novel would be like I said before the way MC fell in love with ML. It happened to quickly I didn't understand how he went from I hate you fck off to I love you real quick still great novel I have no other "complaints" would recommend. <<less

I really liked this novel. It turned out completely different than what I imagined it would be based on the synopsis above. This novel isn't silly, isn't a harem and isn't about face slapping and all that. There's an overarching plot that ties MC and ML together. It's 1vs1 happy ending.

This is also the second novel I've read from this author and I really like the way he writes the MC's. They're all super gorgeous, and they're very normal people with normal selfish thoughts. They aren't no holy mother or... more>> white lotus characters that do good simply because they are MCs. They make their own choices in regards to their own interests, they aren't nice and they show their vices.

And to be honest, from the 3 prospective MLs, aside from the demon lord, I don't think the other two really did anything horrible to MC.
Spoiler

There was a part near the end where the Demon Lord was refusing to recognize anyone else as worthy of MC's love because they all did unforgivable things to him and I was just thinking... HELL NO! Nothing compared to you! The shidi was just a brat and annoying. GLY was honorable and polite the entire time and did his very best to protect MC from his father. Demon Lord on the other hand poisoned MC with an irremovable gu that would with an aphrodisiac stronger than any omega in heat. He sent his brother to get r*ped and used as a dao companion of their enemy. There's no comparison, demon lord treated MC the worst! Gu Louyin was undeniably the best man and I'm glad he got the beauty at the end.

A very fun read... but also at times painful and angsty. I love the MC's personality, it's very different to what you would expect of a great beauty. But under his 'couldn't care less' facade, you can tell that he actually does care, but he's protecting himself now after all the hurt he's gone through. When it comes to the MC and the ML's feelings, I feel like they're quite subtle and well-written. If you pay attention to the details, you can see how their characters and feelings eventually develop,... more>> despite all the circumstances that go against them.

There's about three layers of plot going on in the story. The MC's life and the people who have wronged him, which is intertwined with the overall plot where they try to solve the mystery of what happened in the past, and the plot where one sect fights another (without giving out too many spoilers). That kept the story engaging to me.

I'm really impressed by what they did with the 'system'. A very fresh take on the genre. <<less

i thought the protagonist would be some spoiled gary stu where the author would futilely try to make the protagonist cute. but not? the MC is very free, detached, intelligent and what he wants most is to be able to walk completely free of the things that imprison him to do what he wants, anyway... I loved him from the first chapter. great translation.

This novel is extremely good at having people play dead

I think it’s a sure hit among its “scum gongs finally get their just desserts” trope. It’s angsty, it’s dramatic, there’s a bunch of delusional braindead characters—it’s a fun read. It’s not anything new or original, but it does carry a lot of traits that make it stand out in its subgenre. The premise is pretty simple: MC was always being told what to do by this inner voice playing in his head & now he finally gets to be free.

For... more>> the most part, I’m grasping a theme of redemption. It’s not everyday I see scum gongs actually learning from their mistakes & repenting. I really love how it fleshes out the kind of deranged mindsets that scummy gongs tend to have. You know—that egocentric perspective. It’s funny because their inner monologues make me so frustrated, but it’s also kind of interesting to read through as well. But I appreciate how the author still gives them a way out. They’re not forever stuck in this limbo of eternal suffering, longing for the MC forever & self-destructing as a consequence. They receive their epiphanies & manage to accept reality.

Gu Luoyin is definitely the correct choice as a male lead. No red flags really, just communication issues in the beginning between him & MC. But their build-up is believable. It makes sense why they developed feelings for each other & it never felt forced. I absolutely adore this couple. Plot-wise it’s alright. It’s readable, but it’s not the most riveting of plots. I gave it 5-stars because I’m in it for the character developments. <<less

the pacing for me was alright. The MC and ML personality belongs to the current trend. ML are obsessive but arent completely as*hole or unredeemable, MC is a quirky beauty - not the typical cold beauty or shy beauty - but the kind of beauty that roast pigeon and kill chicken lol.

The MC and each ML are all capable people but they arent neither annoying nor almighty. There is some force behind the scenes and some back-story secret that is pitching against MC and one of the ML, this lead... more>> to a huge misunderstanding early on in the story which lead to majority of the angst for the MC. At the moments nothing is clear yet, but its interesting and intriguing enough for me to keep going on, to see MC acquiring his "freedom" and to unfold the secret behind him <<less

I was seriously happy that my ship sailed~ Thought this was gonna be another typical BL where the MC ends up with the selfish ML.

It's been a long time since I read a satisfying BL and ending. The slow romance is just perfect for my taste.

Now it's time for another "to read BL novel" hunt, hopefully I would stumble a great novel such as this.

It's a good novel. I will give it 4.5 rating.I binge read it and didn't get bored and left in between which I normally do. MLs are bad and did do some bad things but all in all they were not completely unforgivable (except one but he did suffer a lot so I will let it be). I am also fine with the chosen one.

The plot was good though the fight at the end was pretty anti-clamatic. You can give it a try.

Spoiler

5/5 stars. I think this might be my favorite web novel of all time. The writing was so easy to read and enjoyable -- reading this book was genuinely a good time, even at moments where the plot lagged. That was probably the only issue I had. There were times where the plot was missing interesting events or dragged on. I wished specifically that the MC's identity had been revealed earlier on and felt that the whole "soul mirror" discovery on the ML's part was unnecessary. But, that's just my personal opinion.

When it comes to the MC, he's perfect. Everything he does is on his own terms, rather than allowing himself to be forced into things. He doesn't let any of the male lead candidates push him into a relationship he doesn't want, and when he does choose someone, it's when he himself truly grows feelings for them. He's independent and honestly, would have lived a well-off life on his own with his own abilities.

Still, he does end up with the ML who arguably hurt him the least. It's true the ML undeniably hurt and betrayed the MC and I felt that played a very large part in their relationship. There was no immediate forgiveness -- both ended up suffering from it. I liked that, it felt like the MC and the ML were both really realistic. And, it was also cool to see how much the ML adored and valued the MC, to the point where he sacrificed his health and his cultivation (two very important things in xianxia novels!).

It's not perfect, but I definitely would reread and strongly recommend!

I enjoyed this novel. It's not the most interesting in terms of plot nor is the relationship build up the best but there's something about it that just made it so... readable.

I started out reading because I was looking for some hints of angst but with a happy ending and this just hits the mark! The expectations, the disappointments, the betrayals... it was simply PERFECT! The author had me guessing who the ML is for half the novel, with me shipping one guy then another. I liked the guy the... more>> MC ended up with but I really pitied those who didn't SIGH. The ending was satisfactory I guess? Nothing to write home about but there was closure.

The MC is one word... carefree. Due to his experience, he has little to no expectations of people and became indifferent to people. I think it's because of his indifference, the story became has less drama and became more of a slice of life hehe.

The plot itself was not the most interesting. Okish (but quite meh-ish) plot twist and a smooth journey throughout (after the MC regain his 'freedom). Not much fight scenes, revenge scene or dog-blood drama scene like a typical cultivation novel. This story is about (‼️warning full general gist of the plot ahead, not really a spoiler but an overview) the MCs journey of how the people he had expectations for disappointed him, how they regretted it, how the MC not give a fudge about those regrets, only treating them how he wants to treat them and forgiving who he wants to, and how he learns about his origin and the past that had occurred.

Overall, it's quite a decent read. If you're looking for hints of angst (only in the first 20 or 0 chapters or so) and a (relatively) drama free read that keeps you guessing who the ML is, this is for you! <<less

If I were to say about this novel. I really enjoyed the ways the author elaborated the characters. After so long there is a few or maybe less main character who actually knows who is the best person as his partner or soulmate. And even though, there is a couple hints about who is the male lead. MC really thinks a lot about the actions the other characters reacted or feel about him. For instance, the tsundere junior, at this point, I don't understand what he wants, love is love.... more>> But, painful words do cut deeper, no matter how much you love someone. I love how the male lead really care about the MC and took whatever it takes to make sure MC safe and not being bullied anymore because of the state of MC condition.

I won't go deeper as I not preferred to use spoiler tag, but you will see how amazing the ML and certain someone who does whatever it takes to see MC smile and safe. <<less

I really like the flow of the story, and how Xiao Yuan always stays true to his own principles. I also love how the chemistry between the lovebirds developed in the story.

I read this in one sitting, I can't stop reading!
