It may not be perfect, but it's still Absolutely Wonderful Novel and Pretty Satisfying one!

It's not my first time reading Danmei with Yandere Shou. But it's rare and actually my First Time reading MC Yandere Shou! When you think about it, a Protagonist being a Yandere is rather rare even if they're Gong or a Girl. But this MC is a Softcore Yandere. And he's a Lovable character!

This novel also rare in a way where the ML is not a Handsome man like many Danmei like... more>> to show.

The Super Good Looking one is MC!

Both MC and ML are Smart, but they're NOT OP.

This novel also has rather well written Boss Villain. A Madman but also well calculating smart one. And Absolutely Psychopath!

Has Great Faceslappings and Very Sweet Fluffs! It also has Intense moments. But I Love the Satisfying Conclusion and Ending!

The setting of this novel is good and it has so much potential yet I feel like the author only had wonderful ideas and didn't know how to execute it properly. This could've easily been one the most unique novels I've read but unfortunately it was bland, predictable and painfully slow to read.

The MC is my dear. I love how he was truthful and loyal to ML. I love it when there’s no misunderstanding or miscommunication from both ML and MC. Also, it’s a little relatable how people value ML because of his average look to the real society. I just love that MC cared nothing about ML’s appearance, and love ML dearly. I wish it would have some extra about the couple life. 4.6/5 ⭐️

This story has the makings of a great plot, with very simplistic writing. It's not even that the MC is truly OP, but he gets everything so easily. There is no intrigue at all.

What if the Queen Mother was smarter & more insidious? What if she amassed her own political strength & colluded with corrupt officials to control crown prince?

What if the Zhuo patriarch was farsighted enough to keep mc's mother as a way to control him? What if he alone had the cure for mother's insanity?

There were so many good characters that could have been more complex & added more to the story.

A good short read, there’s a few info dumps here and their and some summarising but for a light story it wasn’t bad.

I particularly liked that in this cp the dynamic was more of the shou being the aggressive one in romance and intimacy and the gong wasn’t this super handsome male god type. The way they got along once they really “got together” was also refreshing, having both parties in the relationship being completely honest with each other without sugarcoating any bits of their less stellar personality traits is... more>> something rare even in fictional relationships (and I honestly doubt that it even exists in relationships in reality).

I’m kinda bummed that there wasn’t an epilogue of when their had grown up, I wanted to know how their daughter dealt with Moodys’ lamenting that she looked like him. (But I can also see that this could become ugly between siblings, with one looking calamitously beautiful while the other looks ordinary and not even in the cute category)

Won’t rate it cause I didn’t finish it. It is quite fun, especially the face slapping and Zhou Yang being such a queen 🫅, literally tho HAHAHAH im just quite satisfied with ending this here cause I think the theme of this is literally just face slapping. Their feelings are already developed and their marriage consummated HAHAHA its pretty fun read. To be honest I skipped quite a few chaps in he start cause it was information overload and there were already face slapping when I literally just started reading... more>> lol. Good tho!

This story falls under the category of “comfort read” - it’s a fun plot of palace politics in an interstellar world where the MC succeeds in everything, and the MC and ML are a cute couple with no major misunderstandings. Nothing very upsetting or too sad.

The two things that make this novel stand out are

1) the MC is scheming and an Oscar-worthy actor while the ML is an honest and upright figure. Usually, the MC is the pure character and the ML is the one with more of an evil/bad... more>> streak.

2) the ML is NOT good looking! This was probably the best part of the story as you really don’t see this much. Most couples in BL stories are outstanding in looks.

The plot is 3-stars as it’s decent but not amazing. I would add a star just for the homely ML for a total of 4 stars. <<less

Like a previous reviewer, I hit about chapter 60 and I don’t think the author can sustain the fiction of the MC’s political acumen.

I like the MC. I like the story and didn’t mind the deus ex machina at all. Props to the author, who really hit the claustrophobia of an insular and rotten aristocracy.

But this is a tell and not show EQ/IQ that sort of devolved at times into petty face-slapping dialogue.

Unilaterally announcing an enormous change to an existing (and fundamental) societal belief... just wasn’t the move of a... more>> political mastermind with little support (outside of the popular ‘netizen’ approval ratings). Particularly if you are leaning on the less enfranchised persons to bear the cost of the change without any existing safeguards.

in this case, the MC wants the aristocratic Guides to give their services external to their partners - which in the society of this novel is akin to adultery. Adultery that is a big deal - in the society of this novel - to the extent that the MC’s stepmother is castigated for it.

Also, there is unexpected necrophilia, which I must have overlooked on the tags.

From reviews, it seems like this might be an earlier work of the author, so I’d be interested in seeing additional works. The translation was pretty good and the story overall (up to c60ish) was not bad, it just needed a little tightening up of the plot. <<less

I saw it had decent stars and gave it a shot, but the sue-ness is strong with this one and I'm giving up. I was hoping for a decent sentinel/guide story, but this ain't it.

If I had to hear them praise his beauty one more time I was about to throw my phone.

Go ahead if you're in the mood for a typical terrible family, power tripping, face slapping, Mary Sue sort of story, but don't expect much.

A good novel! Fun and light-hearted read, I understand why some reviews pointed out the similarities to the other novel (the set-up was suspiciously the same) but the characterizations of MC/ML and side characters are totally different (it's nice to see how the same beginning plot can be totally shifted when the character's personalities are so different). Felt like it could've ended at ch60, but after struggling a little to get the pacing back I did enjoy the ending and what eventually became of the storyline. (The storytelling technique is... more>> also a bit weak, but it's fine)

A light-hearted read, don't take it too seriously. There were some instances where the ideologies were so shoved down your throat + weird vibes that I was put off, but in the end, it was a nice read. Don't know if I'd recommend it, but it's a fine story to pass the time! <<less

This is a good novel for those who don’t like unnecessary drama. MC and ML are very open and honest with each other.

It is an okay novel.

The main point of this novel is face-slapping cannon fodder and villains (2D, brainless and/or psychotical). The MC is absolutely perfect in all aspects (the greatest beauty to ever live as well as the most powerfull guide alive) and has the necessary cliche tragic backstory that is a must for this type of story. In fact, pretty much the entire novel is about uncovering more and more of the tragic backstory of MC and ML and dealing with the correlating villains. The plot was not too... more>> bad (relatively to this face-slapping type of novel, not objectively), but it was still pretty obvious most of the time what would happen next, who the main villain is... Not really any surprising twists and turns. Everything that happens, the entire way the plot goes, is extremely convinient for the MC. Also, there were many points where I thought what was happening was very unrealistical and weird (not just in the plot, but also the the medical aspects of the setting).

I actually relatively liked the ML and the personality of the MC (at the very least, I did not dislike him). Their interactions in the first half of the story were enjoyable. I also enjoyed the setting. These were probably the points (along with the fact that the plot was not a complete dumpster fire) that allowed me to read the whole story without dropping it (I was only slightly tempted in the last 20 or so chapters, which is not too bad all things considered).

I would recommend it for casual reading if you are not looking for a masterpiece and do not mind a face-slapping novel with an OP MC and a plot that exists mostly to help MC show his perfection. <<less

Royal Family Drama! This novel has a very grim and mature tone. A lot of readers compare it to the author's other work, called "After I Got Married, Those Who Betrayed Me Were Reborn", which is around 6-7 points similar in terms of character and world settings, but I don't think the two should be compared cause the style the author used to tell both stories are very different.

This novel still has a beautiful MC struggling against his family -- who have undermined him all this time. But the MC... more>> in question is quite scheming and self-aware (opposite of the kind and aloof MC in the other novel). In that same vein, the ML in this novel is also completely different -- he's kind and benevolent rather than cold and domineering. The plot of the novel is them rising above their families and slowly working their way through the rotted upper-society ranks. I enjoyed the complex character dynamics most, and definitely recommend it for that reason! I stopped reading only because I thought that most of the character plots were out of the way, and had no interest in the external kingdom-building plots.

CHARACTERS: 9.5/10

I really really like the characters here. Some may say that they're a bit boring, and I do agree, but only in that humans are usually pretty boring LOL. They're very realistic, and thus, not always the most fun to read about, but their complexity offers a different kind of satisfaction to novels with similar plots but with more 2D and recognizable characters.

Zhou Yang (MC)

The MC is a guide that was shunned by his family and stepped upon by his younger brother. He's been hiding in the shadows all this time, conserving his strength so that he could make his goal (marrying the crown prince) a reality. It makes him a particularly scheming character! But his self-awareness and maturity make him much more likable than cannon fodders with similar mindsets.

Though I can't say that he's as charming as the more innocent and headstrong Shou-types, I still like him more because his personality is more in line with most people -- he's selfish, very very much so. But, rather than that being annoying, it's admirable because he knows what he wants and works hard to get it.

Moodys (ML)

Different from your general Gong-type, the ML in this novel is particularly gentle. He's capable and honorable, fully personifying the "crown prince" persona without it feeling cliche or corny. Just like the MC, he's probably not as charming as other MLs, and may not have as much appeal as a result, but his humanity makes him stand out regardless~

ROMANCE: 8/10

I like the two main characters, and for that, I rated the romance higher than I intended initially LOL. In terms of romance development, this one is definitely clumsy and kind of awkward. Still, I like the fact that their relationship is rather realistic as well. Oh, and the fact that the MC fell in love first~ Which is rare! In this novel, the MC has always been chasing after the ML, and I found that very interesting.

SETTING: 5/10

Oof the setting is definitely the most abandoned aspect of this novel. I initially went into this story hoping for more Interstellar and Sentinel&Guide exploration. As a result.... there's barely any of either. (╥_╥) The main world setting being explored is the royal family and noble family dealings. There's some Sentinel&Guide content scattered around, but it's very quickly forgotten. The way the setting has been built also introduced lots of holes and inconsistencies. So, I already feel pretty generous giving it a 5/10 LOLOL.

PLOT: 7/10

The plot is not bad, it focuses on getting rid of the cannon fodder and fixing up the Empire. But it's not very well executed. I would have liked to see the characters actually do the things that the author described, but most of the political intrigue ended up being skipped in favor of face-slapping -- which is fun, but with the two main characters so well-adjusted and self-aware, it's not as satisfying as it is in other novels.

RATING: 3.6/5

Although the story is not perfect and is kind of hard to read because of the more realistic tone, I still enjoyed reading it because of the particularly memorable characters. I recommend that you do the same if you're interested in things like character complexity. Otherwise, if you're looking for something more uncomplicated and with a lighter tone, then the author's later work (the one I mentioned in the beginning), may be more to your taste.

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

  • Personal Enjoyment: As mentioned, the story is a bit hard to read at times. And I didn't finish reading it. So, 2.5/5!
  • Literary Level: 3/5 Needs some work, but I appreciate the character complexity a lot because that's so rarely seen in Danmei novels. As for the translation, it's not the cleanest, but it's readable!
  • Heat Level: 1.5/5. There are some allusions to sexy scenes, but it's all behind the curtain with lots of -fade-to-black- moments.

Not bad. Quite cute. Loved the MC here!! Super cunning and scheming and doesnt even bother hiding it from the ML. Love the trust and reliance and the honestyyyy!!! The plot was not bad, interesting in a way? Though I feel like the ending can be a little short and abrupt? But overall its still good! Quite worth reading ^^
