In a word: disappointing. The rating is between two and tree stars depending on your acceptance/not minding too much forced consent. What happens in the novel is the following: Fu Rong was married and divorced before marrying again as a concubine of Xu Jin. During their brief marriage, their interactions are limited and occur mostly at night. He is cold and looks down on her for being already married. She is very beautiful and... that's it. Xu Jin goes to war and dies, soon after also Fu Rong is killed... more>> by someone unknown and they both wakes up again 6 years before.

In her new life, Fu Rong doesn't seek revenge, she wants to stay away from her past and help her family. As there is the tag "slow romance", I thought the novel would show us how the two leads would meet again and slowly fall in love. I couldn't be more wrong with my expectations.

Xu Jin is immediately obsessed with Fu Rong, why one would ask. First, because she is so beautiful, second for a s*upid and lame reason. He has a "disease" that makes him sick whevener he smells a woman scent, but, guess who is the only woman he can hold without feeling sick? Guess right, Fu Rong. The author is so lazy that he/she took the easy way out in making Fu Rong special in order to justify Xu Jin love for her, as it would have been difficult to give FR a personality or write scenes about their interactions, anything to justify his obsession, but whatever.

So, as she is born again and she is still innocent, XJ wants to absolutely marry her. He often appears into her bedroom, kisses repeatedly even if she doesn't want, he even touches her intimately when she is asleep finally forcing her to accept his marriage proposal. One good thing I can say about FR is that she doesn't act as an innocent and naive girl who blushes or gets flustered when a man is near her as she is an experienced woman who knows how to act and bear according to the situation. <<less

Honestly, the beginning on the novel highlights her travesty. Then it moves into reclaiming her youth, and changing the fate of the fu. Plenty of fluff. Translated well!

Been enjoying it!

What a long journey.

I like how their feelings seems realistic. MC and ML didn't quickly fell in love but it took time, patience, and persevarance to get to where they were. I also love the Fu family dynamics, but I think that their family is kinda fantasy-like. I mean at that time period, drama and cunning plot is kind of unavoidable you know lol.

Pros - one of the nicest maternal families you have ever read. Parents still in love, siblings all finding their own way in the world, and great sisterly relationships.

A nicely behaved FL who just wants a peaceful life. Not a genius, not immensely wealthy and not seeking revenge.

All in all - a nice slice of life about families and maiden life. Interesting look at dating choices in ancient times.

cons - oh, the impossible ML, Xu Jin. Also a reborn who always seems like he’s on the edge of slaughtering someone... more>> or raping the FL. He’s so oblivious to how fearful she is of him and he acts like an adult voyeur around her 12-yr-old-self. He doesn’t care because he thinks he knows how this story will end.! It’s really a shame because the rest of the story is quite good. Quick, someone write in a second lead who steps up when the ML dies! <<less

Don't overlook this series because of the poor ratings!

I admit that the ML is not much to write home about and has consent issues. I'll also acknowledge that the MC is quite simple and shallow, but there's something in the storytelling or translations that is really compelling and addictive.

Currently the translations are on hiatus so we're at 35 of 279 chapters so I'd say there's room for the ML to redeem himself. The MC's family are so damn loving and supportive of each other, there's no way the ML won't... more>> have a redemption arc (at least I hope!)

Although the MC is stunningly beautiful, vain and simple, it doesn't mean that she is s*upid, unloving or incapable. You probably are following or know of someone in the real world like this on social media: really hot but not much substance or personality. But despite this, our MC is not insipid or boring. She just lives by her own values: family, beauty, personal safety and freedom.

The best thing is that our MC behaves like a 21 year old who has been reincarnated into her 13 year old body: she knows when to ACT cute/cry but her mentality is of a twice married, once widowed woman with an adults perspective on s*x and intimacy. Hallelujah!

The traslation quality is excellent with only a few awkward words here and there (eg bed tent instead of bed canopy). Currently this novel is on hiatus by the translator, but I hope that they pick it up again soon. 4.5 out of 5. <<less

This is quite interesting, though a bit frustrating.

The ML and MC aren't perfect. They have their own strengths and they are just more realistically human than most rebirth protags.

ML rebirth was first. He regretted his own actions and disdain for her in the first life. He was too proud then so he can't admit he likes her. In the first life he did thorough research on her. People reading may hate him (as a woman I did too tbh). In the last scenes they were together he worried if he will die what will happen to her. In their second life he guarded her first. There's alot of misunderstandings when they met (mostly him being narcissistic and I can't blame coz MC truly has vain reputation). He tries to woo her not just to show his authority or conquer her but to protect and avoid the harsh previous future that awaited immediately after he went back to the past. At that time he was secretly guarding a 12yr old FL who hasn't gone back to the past.

FL rebirth was a year or so after ML's. She's not the best FL but she has the mentality of a regular lady in her time. She isn't familiar to schemes because her family is perfectly simple and warm and loving. Slowly she is learning but it's so frustrating that her beauty provokes bad people. There's nothing special about her except that she's the only female the ML can touch (?) and that she's easily relatable for any female who just want a man who is good to her and will protect her.

These two can so easily provoke flowers, bees and butterflies. There's also a bit of mysteries regarding some characters.

The cdrama adaptation make me feel the same disappointment after PGC and TPWY.

The book so far feels a bit like TRotMEoML. Shen Miao was fiercer though, probably because she had been in the social battlefield with better social standing. Fu Rong is someone else trying to rebuild her life but she didn't have that much malice. It's a curious thing to know her future choices so I don't find this book boring.

I hope a translator will pick it up again. <<less

Let's get one thing out of the way first. Yes, ML is a child mol*ster. Yes, only MC not on other children but still a child mol*ster none the less. If that's a deal breaker to you don't bother coming here and complaining, just don't read.

With that settled, I like our MC. Her IQ is on the low side and that doesn't change with her rebirth. Very vain, very narcissistic, but she is full of love towards her family. She didn't know much in her previous life and she died... more>> at 21 but at least she know how to have fun and stringing men around.

The ML, like I said, is a mess. Maybe he will get his commeupence. <<less

It’s at least a 3.5, probably more.

Loved the settings with family loving. Both leads have experienced family love. Especially the female lead, her family is ideal.

loved the character of the FL though she is vain she is also a little bit smart.

the male lead is the typical cold domineering president type with a fiery heart but is not too jerky.

their romance is a lot of push and pull and entertaining to read.

just the story felt long sometimes.
