A wicked mother one day brought home a girl.

The child was the hidden legitimate daughter of the duke, the heroine of [The Duke’s House Has Three Sons and One Daughter] Loretta.

I was Melody, the villainous girl who tormented her and was condemned along with my mother.

Not wanting to die like that, I decided to start treating her well now.

I personally fed Loretta, put her to bed, and played with her.

And then her reaction was…?

“I want Melody to marry me!”

Caught off guard by her endless affection, I too ended up entering the duke’s family,

“I’ll stick right by Miss Melody’s side.”

And there, it seems I’ve met a young lord who’s an even bigger ‘Melody fool’?

All I did was be kind to survive, but why am I being loved…?!

4+ It's hard to find anything original in the rebirth type of story, yet somehow it does have a special flavor

not because the MC is the daughter of a true villain, but because she's a kid with a deep and complex background, she suffered some ab*se, but not the gorish extreme kind, she obviously was an unwanted neglected, probably was beaten a bit, and bullied by some outsider for her bad origins, but not only - she was also recognized as a victim by the villagers who were ready to... more>> taker in and protect her. Brings an unconventional duality of people who judge her for whose child she is, and those who will consider herself, for who she really is. That's alone gives the character a realistic foundation, and the nice thing is that it sticks, her personality is really fleshed out, she has a brave heart, some courage, a kind nature but also a relatively low self esteem linked to a strong awareness of her origins - yet she's not pitiful, she has a lot of dignity and she is genuine in her feelings for the little girl (cute !)

The duke family and household also make for a wonderful cast with rich interactions, a number of characters that are not your usual caricatural archetypes, but are also richer. i tend to dislike extreme reliance on book novel as a tool for the protagonist, but here, she's a little girl which make this absurd approach more understandable, also it's very double edged from the start : of course she get a glimpse at potential danger, but she also has presumption about the people in her surrounding : some time it's goo (the cold duke is a goo person), sometimes it's not enough (she reads the second son bad mouth correctly towards his sister but fail to see the same when it's about herself) sometimes it a bit bad (she obviously has some prejudice against the big brother because of her reading and fail to fully see his kindness) - all of which is fun ! The rebirth part : (as I don't understand dragon_reader's comments ;)) The MC herself has been born into that bad person daughter, she grew up as such and it's absolutely relevant to see her as a child, because even with some memories from a previous life that «felt like reading a book ». Her past life herself was a miserable teen around 15, neither an adult with life experience or someone with abilities to pick outside of some book knowledge. Lastly, it's not like she's been replaced with her past life, she's still herself and a past life is still just that, thankfully ! <<less

Liked the novel. Somehow seems MC has digressed to her child-age (11 years old) and her thoughts and behavior has become more child-like though she is mature for her age...

Excited to read ahead! TL is great too!

Fantastic story that is more nuanced than it initially lets on. Author cleverly hides certain plot points until they become relevant to the story, which prevents lore dumps and provides good pacing. This lets the story breathe and take its time with the main character, Melody, and see glimpses into why she acts the way she does; Being a child forced to grow up too fast, but ultimately still a child, reincarnation knowledge or not.

Melody has a certain relatability that reaches out from the pages and grabs onto some of... more>> our darkest emotions of loneliness, regret, and helplessness. But it isnt all doom and gloom as you can see her grow for the better by surrounding herself with an excellent cast, and in turn enrich their lives as well.

What a lovely story. I cant wait to see what is next. <<less

2, 5 stars, because the author absolutely BOMBED by making this story about someone else in the ending arc.

Before that mess I absolutely enjoyed the story so I'm going to begin with the positives: I love Melody, she is cute, respectful, knows her place and makes good decisions. Everyone is so precious... Of course our FL can't read the room but her moments with potential MLs are very intimate. Especially with Claude of course. At first I couldn't feel the chemistry but after the time skip, he really led the... more>> romance perfectly. (before that ending arc, sadly)

There were two arcs that didn't focus on the FL, which got me bored a little but even those were giving some anticipation.

Isaiah... My boy. If FL accepted his offer when she was young, she wouldn't be regretting it. I mean all of them are good options but Isaiah is just special in my heart. He really really cares about what she thinks and wants while others kind of do minimal manipulations. My boy just asks and listens. I do love that straightforwardness. Anyway, Chapter 183 made me cry. I enjoyed his presence.

AFTER chapter 190 this story was thrown off the cliff. I'd be giving this a straight 1 if I didn't enjoy the other parts. Reasons:

-After Melody's departure from the mansion, Loretta's selfish whinings annoyed me. I couldn't care less about her lonely heart while my girl is staying god knows where.

-There was like 1 chapter they thought about her then not even Isaiah went after her with a half-assed excuse. That didn't make the slightest sense when he was living FOR her through the whole story.

-I don't get how I should care about Emperor, Samuel or August. They were three background randos for adding some plot to the story, why would you bring them in the main stage? Just deal with it in the background like always. Even the soft duke was forgotten, they should have given him the time.

I didnt read the side stories since I lost all my interest in the characters. Translation was 5/5 but sadly I can't give that score to that ending. <<less

I like so much this novel, it's the classic ab*sed kid that start receiving love but is so good because it's different of the others novels that have the same plot, the only thing that is bothering me now is because every guy is falling for her, I hope that the ML is Claude because every brother is in love with melody.

The story is cute so far the only thing I don't like is MC being weak. I'm done reading the 3 years old is a villain and the MC raised my standard high. I love strong and cunning MC. That's why MC being a crybaby here is unbearable for me. It's understandable coz she died too young in her 1st life and her experience doesn't help her that much in her regressed life. She is still young and live a lonely life both in her past life and second life.

It's... more>> weird like the FL feels more like the MC coz the way she talk sound like a regressor or a posessor when in fact she isn't. She's smarter and braver than the MC. Lmao. Also, it's funny like the author shoving the 'special MC' in her readers mouth because everyone thinking that the MC is special when in fact nothing is special about her beside being weak.

I can't drop it coz I'm hoping for MC character development. I hope she gain confidence. I will try to read more and give it a chance. I will change the rating if ever. <<less

4.2 ⭐

I have finished reading until the last chapter.

One thing for sure, I liked our FMC x ML relationship.

... more>> Claude is the kind of ML that I liked, he's not "cliche" (that made me cringe) like other Korean shoujo novel character. Our FMC got a pretty awesome personality too.

The romance scenes between ML x FMC made my heart flutter too! And it's a plus point!

About the world building and other characters, I think it can be developed more... like, I was expecting something more but turned out it was just average?

Since this was a shoujo-like story ofc there always be that one troupe where FMC had to choose between two options without telling other people, which is kind of cliche, and I kind of frustrated about it but fortunately it was not draggy (well it kind of draggy for a bit but it solved after some chapters).

If you're worried about the romance part, our MC and ML only starts to "actually" liking each other when they're already adults. <<less

It was a really fine and cute read. But several parts went missing.

I personnally totally understood (and liked) the choice of the ML. Like she said... more>>
Spoiler

"Isaiad is kind" while Claude "is mean" but what does that mean really ? The truth since the starts to me it seems like she considers Isaiah as a friend, perharps a big brothers in her memories, but he never gave her butterflies like Claude does. Never make her embarrassed or just never confronting her and then making her feel better like Claude does. I also thought he didn't fight that hard against Claude.

Both are great, but you can't control your heart. For Ronny I think it's just a problem of maturity too between her living two lifes and him being only the same age as her while Claude is more mature / smart in a cunning her that leaves her surprised. But it's still a deception these feelings were never truly addressed.

[collapse]

But while I truly enjoyed this novel, I would'nt reread it because some parts seemed quite long
Spoiler

the banquet prepared by Ronny, the lonely Lorreta etc.

[collapse]
while some felt underdevelopped like the relation towards the Duke who was so kind but mostly absent.

Also, it felt a bit like Melody's past isn't enough addressed and while it was heartwarming to see everyone cares as much for her than for Lorreta, I would have liked seeing her more outside of the mansion, living her own life, developping more competences etc.
Spoiler

The fact she didn't even get her dream job while trying to save Loretta honestly very disappointed me. She passed it but bc of her help to her did'nt got it...

[collapse]

I agree with the other commentary that the restriction of informations concerning the world or the other persons in the society also made it very basic...

Still the romance is reallly great and developped too even if some more intimate moments between them would have been great too.
Spoiler

like how the mariage demand was, the reactions of the duke of that etc.

[collapse]
Feels like Lorretta romance was almost more developped when she isn't even the MC...

So in short it was ageeable but not amazing. Still recommend it.

Sorry for the the grammatical mistakes english is not my primary langage. <<less

It's a really sweet albeit basic story of ab*sed kid starts receiving love.

Good if you're just looking for a simple story to mindlessly read, because the characters and worldview are a little weak/one-dimensional. I guess the main draw of this novel is the cuteness of the children. The ML is the "older brother" type, just saying, since it is not exactly my cup of tea since it makes the story feel slower and "nothing much going on".

Mm the translation is so-so, but the writing doesn't seem great to begin with:

The world-building's choppy, and the characters are a bit one-dimensional. The plot and FL feel restricted in a vacuum as well; over a 100 chapters in and we know nothing about the imperial family or of the other nobles in the capitol other than the elders who just hate the Baldwin children and the FL.

There's also the inconsistency with the duke and late duchess, which is minor, but they keep adding onto it that it bothers me.

Spoiler

The duke and late duchess originally were in an arranged marriage and grew to have feelings later, ok sure. But he supposedly proposed to her with a ring in a cake? Why would he do that unless he had feelings for her? Is this because FL is an inconsistent narrator, did this after AFTER they already got married, is the reality is different from the OG plot, or did the author forget? Who knows. It isn't pointed out.

[collapse]

After a while, it feels like FL's mission to smooth out OGFL's future hardships just sorta comes to a standstill as larger, overarching issues and come-to moments crop up, so why bother with the "rebirth" plotpoint?

FL's also so guilt-ridden and self-conscious that she just goes from "weak" to "less weak by half a point" even after 100+ chapters. Every other character is getting their one-dimensional developmeny except for her it seems.

I picked up the manhwa to try and maintain interest, but the flaws are even more glaring there, so I'll be dropping both.

2/5 for the premise, minues points for the characters, pacing, inconsistencies, and world-building <<less
