Cheng Huan woke up and had transmigrated as the villainess female supporting character in a novel.

The female supporting character was very money-loving and used her own son as a chip to try and get into a prestigious family. Finally, the child died in an accident and the female supporting character also met her tragic fate.

Cheng Huan, who had been single her entire life, looked at the teary-eyed little boy next to her, let out a sigh of relief, and picked up the heavy burden of being a mother.

As the days went on by, the legendary child’s father showed up spontaneously!

Cheng Huan: I really don’t want to be the third wheel in your relationship!!

The spontaneously-appeared male lead: ….but there is nobody else.

I have read a train wreck of a CEO romance novel before this one so my opinion might be biased, but let me tell you, I am so glad that this novel was decent. There was no stalkers/borderline r*pists nor any white lotus/green tea b*tches ... more>>
Spoiler

(although, og. Cheng Huan/now Shenxi was pretty close due to her character. She didn't do anything excessive, though so she gets an okay pass).

I liked the humble and hardworking FL who did her best in being a mother to her instant son. The ML was also likeable as he isn't your usual cold and domineering CEO who is only after the FL and has a rivalry with his own son. Nope, the ML wanted to be a father to his son first and then gradually fell for the Fl. AND he understands the word "no"! He isn't overbearing at all. But both the FL and ML aren't unrealistically perfect. They both have their flaws, too which shows that they are human. I liked that about them.

The fact that the characters acted their age was also pretty impressive, considering that Chinese novels are usually full of genius kids and adults who act like hormonal teenagers. Here, adults acted mature and kids like kids. Such a rare thing.

What I didn't like was the occasional spanking. I just don't like corporal punishment as a disciplinary action used to raise and educate children. I don't like children, but even I wouldn't hit a child. Another thing that bothered me was the fact that we only found out about the outcome of the MIL and her lover (third uncle) in an author's note as an afterthought. It would have been nice to include that in the actual chapter since not everyone necessarily reads the author's comments.

Overall, this novel was a good read. It certainly cleansed my soul that had suffered from previously reading a traumatizingly bad Mary Sue x domineering CEO novel. <<less

Like many of the other reviews for this book I feel the story is good, but just a bit flat. It is very cliche but still easy to read. There was no real omph factor or major conflict that was pressing on the MC. Very standard, transmigrated into a book stuff with cute bits of fluff.

A very sweet, slice-of-life type transmigration story. There are no miscommunications or misunderstandings or anything like that, the MC & ML interacted with each other and slowly fell in love. MC didn't take long at all adjusting to the new life, and little bun; she's smart and talented chef, and was able to bring up the bun she took responsibility of. ML is, for a change, a very caring and understanding fellow, who didn't try to control MC as his 'wife' as soon as he found about the child. The... more>> little bun is actually cute, and not overly genius CN kid... All in all, a comfortable read. <<less

How could people rate this 3 star? This is 5 STAR!

although yes cliche premise, cliche ML job as CEO, the MC also a chef, and you know what the usual troupe in every josei chinese novel. At least one of them always include business and cooking. And also a kid. Or extra kid. Transmigration too ofc. But hold up guys.

This is fcking good actually. For someone who like slice of life romance, childcare, cooking, and business. This is the one. The story was revolving the developing relationship between those three... more>> only. Bond as a family. Learning about parenting, and as a couple. The MC and ML were not in love fast and at first they were just co-parenting. It was so sweet when both of them realize that they like each other. Slow and steady. And even their interaction waa cute. The bun was cute. Ahh everything just fluff. I just love it. Def in my top 10. I recommend it if you're tired of heavy angst tragedy toxic story hahaha. <<less

You read this novel for XingXing the incredibly incredibly cute kid. If there were more of him, I'd have no problem giving this a five star rating.

The problem with the novel is everything besides the kid. The FL is as thin as cardboard. The ML is believable but dull. The evil mother in law is s*upid, one dimensional and easily dealt with. The plot is bland and generic as they move from easy uninteresting victory to easy uninteresting victory. There is one potentially interesting character that's the original FL. Unfortunately... more>> she's handled badly and gets virtually no screen time.

Bottom line it's an enjoyable novel with a cute kid, and some irrelevant material. <<less

So far the story has been alright, but I am a little annoyed at the MC's reaction to Jiang MingYuan wanting to act like a dad and spoil his son. I know she's trying to be a good mom, but the way she didn't really want him to interact with his own son who he has shown to only hold affection for rubbed me the wrong way.

I still enjoyed reading Chen Huan, XingXing (and later Jiang Mingyuan) just being a family. It was refreshing seeing a female MC in these... more>> types of stories not go into the entertainment industry, though I do not mean that stories that do are bad either.

I'd give it a 3.5/5 for now <<less

I would say, the story is good but it not the kind of story that I would remember as I have read the other novel that are good and memorable.

But I would agreed as the review on ML. The ML is a realistic one I would say. Not an over-bearing president, an over-jealous. I would say the ML have a great personality as he does not force the FL to hand over the child or get married to him. He just request for him could see and talk with his... more>> child. <<less

Personally I think this is a decent story. The plot is light and reasonable, the characters also nice, the flow is also pretty much tidy. However there is some aspect that made me unable to like it very much. The lack of suspension and that plot building stuff??? Idk how to word it, don't give much satisfaction when reading it. It's just pretty much average, a cliche and decent but average story.

The MC and her kid interaction are cute at the beginning but getting kinda boring after the father enter... more>> the house.

Spoiler

the big issues for me is the cliff hanger supposed to be plot that really just useless. It didn't give any purpose nor highlight to the story at all. One of the best example is shen xing? (Kinda forgot) story. Idk why did author try to insert her to the story at all. She don't have any redemption, no guilt, and still being the annoying human she is, what was even her purpose to be reborn again?? And with the open ending on her side??? She hate her mother for abandoning her but has no conscience at all on her actions towards her child even after being reborn again. Also the ML mother character, what a fvck up person but has no single worth on her existence. Couldn't even be ane a proper hurdle. Sigh 😔

Don’t know why it’s rated so low when it’s a good novel and even better than those high rated novels out there. The FL and ML are very conscious about trying to co-parent. The FL tried her hard to be a good mom and the ML respects that immensely and does his part. I guess people want more drama, whirlwind love story and sickly cute and genius kids.

My advise is just enjoy their cute interactions with the child. Check out the tags before you read it.

If there is anything toxic... more>> about the story is that the comments in the translator’s chapters is toxic af. Comment section is full of judgmental, easily assuming and very critical people who can’t stand any flaw.

Comment section experience:

Spoiler

One time FL got irritated cuz ML bought too much toys and she talked to the kid. The comments went wild how she’s so selfish and so jealous etc. Turns out in the next chapter, all she wanted was him being conscious of not easily accepting things from others. She remind kid to only accept toys from her or ML, no one else.

[collapse]

Spoiler

There’s a part at the start where the ML tries to get close to the kids slowly. And the comments are all how he’s so creepy and if they’re the kids they’ll vomit emoji. Like wow, it’s like these people never understood how difficult the dynamics of a “broken” family is, and from my experience the FL and ML really tries hard.

It's a decent slice of life. All the drama was low-key or resolved relatively quickly. I liked that the child actually seemed like a child as I've read several child-raising novels where the child is just incredibly smart and talented beyond reason. The MC and ML were also very realistic. They weren't perfect, and they were, for the most part, sensible. Misunderstandings were kept to a minimum and resolved quickly.

The story was a bit limited as it almost felt like no one else existed outside the MC, ML and son.... more>> Even the mother-in-law's role was set aside and just vanished. But I was in the mood for a low-drama read, and this story hit the spot for that. <<less

MC's son is so annoying. The author writes it off as a charming personality, which is so jarring to read. He's a simpleton who constantly whines if he doesn't get his way, and the MC might lecture him or spank his bu*t but ultimately both she and the ML cave to his every whim, so there's no lesson learned.

the original chapters are a decent length but the translator chops them up into very short chapters, which only serves to highlight how much NOTHING HAPPENS in this story. The TL also... more>> isn't proofread, so there are small mistakes every other chapter or so, which distracts from the reading experience.

this story is mainly slice of life genre. It focuses on child rearing, descriptions of the MC's cooking, and doting love from the ML. It gets really boring to read because there's no real plot, so it's the equivalent of watching almost 300 anime episodes of straight filler.

2 stars for the finished story and translation effort. <<less

This novel is just too boring. I found myself just skimming chapters. Also I seem to be the only one who finds the kid annoying. There has to be a middle ground to super realistic annoying 4 year old and overly smart non realistic 4 years old that you find on Chinese bun novels. Also what is with the strong independent woman becoming a great housewife....

Translations were good though so thank you translation team/person.

11/10

I felt really lucky to have found and finished this book. Thumbs up to fringe capybara for the super amazing translation (you really have a great taste for picking up and translating this book *wink*).

This book fits very well with my line of thought. It's not that too slow paced or fast paced, it just felt right. The author described everything realistically. There were no unnecessary drama, no overly exaggerated character like mary sure or gary stu, no entertainment involved, no overly excessive CEO behavior, etc. Everything just felt right.... more>> Reading this book made me feeling warm, satisfied, and contented inside. It was a very good and pleasing journey *cry in happiness*. Maybe some of the readers felt that the romance was very very slow but I didn't think so. Just imagine, if I were in our FL place, maybe I would do the same thing. Especially our lil' bun xingxing, ugh my weak heart couldn't take the cuteness overload attack *squeal*. Another thing that made me super super pleased with this book was

Spoiler

Our FL actually told our ML about her original existence which was from another world. Not all of the transmigration books did this. Which is why when she told him about the truth, my mind went like oheemgeeee. This reason alone escalated my appreciation to author like 📈

[collapse]

Lastly, I really recommend this book for you to read. First thing first, you must read the first few chapters and if this book is one of your cup tea then why not? Just read it and you won't regret it. <<less

I selected this novel out on a whim and boy it made my weekend colorful just by speed marathon through the novel.

I like the novel, it was so realistically written. The child is humanly and behave more childish, just like how a normal kid his age would be, and he's a bright one. Though I like how in other novels the children are more mature and described to as similar as their CEO dad, this one feels more refreshing and I love it!

Also, the FL did a very good job... more>> raising her child and making money at the same time. She's very mature and is also a strong mother. No wonder our ML fell in love lol. The romance is a slow one, but it was sweet.

ML is a gentleman and he knows that pursuing his child's mother takes a lot of baby steps. He gave her some time to adapt and actually really respects her opinion. He will be a very loving father and husband, I dare say. I really envy the FL.

If you're looking for a ML who's actually not a jerk and a FL who's very mature, caring and independent, this novel is for you. <<less

XingXing (the kid) is definitely the highlight of the story. He's a comical sweetheart. And considering his early childhood that's a miracle.

The ML and the FL have a boring, stable love.

I quite like this story. The mother is responsible and clumsy (it shows that she's not used being a mother, she's still learning and the process feels natural), the kid is absolutely adorable and I love the fact that he actually acts his age (either the author made extensive research or they are very familiar with kids XingXing's age, cause the attention to the detail was marvelous).

The thing I don't like (I'm still at ch83), tho, is how the father just straight up approached the child.

Spoiler

He stalked her and the kid, contacted the kindergarten to make a DNA test behind the mother's back, and then one day just barged in the kindergarten. I hate that.

Isn't he a responsible and rational adult? Couldn't he act like one, and approach the mother first? Ask if the child is his, and say he wants a DNA test? Would he like if another stranger approached his kid the way he did? Even the way his own subordinate did? Making suspicious questions and scaring the child? I don't care if he's handsome, rich or whatever, the way he approached the situation was shit.

Another thing that makes me uncomfortable is how he started to interfere in the MC's life behind the scenes, she was absolutely right in being suspicious of scams, this man is ridiculous. If he wanted to support his child couldn't he, as I said before, act like a responsible adult, and approach the mother? Be open with her and do everything right?

In my opinion he should have first talked with the mother. If she refused, only then should he use his money, to legally make the test and provide financial support. Do things the way he did would be ok only if she was too proud to accept/use the financial support her son has a right to.

[collapse]

And actually, if he was such a good man and so intent and interested in his child, why didn't he take the child from that disgusting demon in the original life/book? (I don't know if it was a past life of not because I haven't read much yet, I'm here ranting). Like, there's no way a kid was mistreated like that and it left no signals, either the father and grandmother knew and didn't care, or they never cared enough to notice. And damn if this man is rich enough to trace the mc's life back to her messed up boyfriends and whatnot, he should be able enough to discover his son was experiencing living hell from birth to death. Gosh, the more I think about this, the angrier I get.

Edit: Ok, ch92 tells me that he was a way better father in the 1st life/book than I thought. But it still feels like a plothole. He cared about the kid so much, but didn't noticed he's been mistreated his whole life? Why did he let that bit*h take the child away? Why didn't he hire someone to keep an eye on the child while he was away? Why didn't the old lady keep visiting her grandchild? I just don't understand how could someone possibly not notice that woman's nature and the child's reality. <<less
