The Victim of the Academy

I haven’t done anything so far. But now, I’ll do absolutely nothing with even more effort.

After being transmigrated into a game world, I made sure to do nothing so I wouldn’t become a variable.

And that’s how I got caught by the original main character of the game.

“When the alchemists from ‘Ex Machina’ hacked into and seized control of all security systems in Cradle, where were you?”

“When the dark mages of ‘Under Chain’ invaded with their undead army?”

“When the fanatics from ‘Eden’ brainwashed the undergraduates?”

“And when the demon worshippers of ‘Lemegeton’ broke through the main gate?”

“You were the only one untouched by every single one of those incidents.”

No, what the hell. This is so damn unfair.

This is one of the well written novels in this platform. What I really like is how every character is humane and mature, even the extras has their own humanity fleshed out, they are all flawed beings. And those flaws is what makes the story more complete. It tells the story of a coward liar, who keeps lying to himself that destiny is inevitable but in the end he is the one who rejects the very idea of fate. As he reach his 2nd year, he met more flawed beings,... more>> the white rabbit who chase wonderland, she who knows the cost of the crown, the miserable daughter, and of course the thought splitting liar. They embrace their weakness sometimes they did not, they tried to change, to became a better person and experience that ordinary life. They envied and hate each other but at the conclusion of this stage they just want to live as a person.

Spoiler

From reading this I learn that regret is a privilege of the weak, but even so its what makes us human choosing to carry the pain not because it changes the past, but because it reminds us of what mattered

Simply put, someone who tries very hard not to be the protagonist ends up becoming the protagonist.

By repeatedly avoiding dangerous situations he catches the attention of the main characters of this world's story, and most of his focus is on surviving the aftermath of those decisions.

Through his unique perspective that is completely egocentric but not to the extent of becoming a villain (although the risks and consequences surely also played a part in that decision), he forms bonds in unexpected places (well, unexpected within that universe, not necessarily surprising to... more>> an experienced reader).

It's refreshing to have a novel revolve around a protagonist with very grey morals rather than someone who is mostly good or mostly evil.

The novel does make ample use of tropes, so there's not a lot of depth to be found outside the conundrums the protagonist faces (both in the sense of moral conundrums and finding his way out of tricky situations), but it's entertaining in its own way.

As for romance
Spoiler

there are at least three clear heroines at this point, and he's been steadily raising flags, mostly as a consequence of trying to survive or not involve himself further. So for those who have noticed the harem tag, that's how it'll probably end up in some way.

But it's not the focus and seems to develop relatively slowly, although there's plenty of foreshadowing. <<less

A fun take on the old cliche academy genre. Our MC is a noble who acknowledges his lack of skills and tries to avoid all of the main events. While successful he inevitably draws the attention of the rest of the cast, who now overestimate his abilities. Shenanigans, ensue.

It's not exactly a masterpiece, but it's fun. The "harem" tag is a bit off-putting, but honestly, romance doesn't seem to be the focus here — comedy takes center stage. That said, there are still a few things that really bothered me.

It's understandable that the protagonist is timid and passive, considering the way he's lived his life. He doesn't want to save the world — he just wants a peaceful life, far away from trouble. I get that.

But it's undeniably frustrating how utterly powerless he is. Every other character is... more>> stronger than him, and he gets dragged into whatever crazy scheme Lobelia (one of the central characters) comes up with, simply because he doesn't have the strength to say no.

So far, he's been tossed around from one situation to another, whining the whole time. Eventually, I started to resent Lobelia — even though she's not a bad character — just because the protagonist is so passive that she ends up looking like a complete tyrant. <<less
