[Love without knowing it, cold beta bottom × An unattainable alpha top who bows for love]

[ABO story, bittersweet flavor]

Tan Ning is a beta. Although his looks are stunningly beautiful, he remains an unpopular person disliked by everyone. At school, he always wears a sullen face, so gloomy that he doesn’t seem normal. He is ostracized by his classmates, but he doesn’t care. He keeps himself busy with tutoring and part-time jobs to earn money, without interacting with anyone.

In stark contrast is Lin Song’an, a top-tier alpha born into a wealthy family—a favored son of heaven. Wherever he goes, he’s surrounded by admirers. He lacks nothing and holds nothing in disdain.

Once, during a joint meeting between two colleges, halfway through the meeting, Tan Ning floated in expressionlessly like a ghost. He silently took an empty seat next to Lin Song’an.

All eyes turned to them, everyone looking at each other in disbelief. Who would dare to casually sit next to Lin Song’an?!

Lin Song’an’s friends immediately wanted to pull him away.

But Lin Song’an slightly raised his hand, indicating that it was fine.

After the meeting, Tan Ning left.

Everyone thought that Lin Song’an and Tan Ning were completely parallel lines.

That day, after class, Tan Ning left the school alone, carrying his backpack and walking southward. At the end of the road, he got into a luxury car parked at the corner of an alley. As soon as he sat down, someone pounced on him.

Lin Song’an kissed him, holding him tightly, his hands roaming over his waist.

“Why didn’t you answer my calls?” Lin Song’an asked.

Tan Ning’s eyes were indifferent as he replied nonchalantly, “Didn’t we agree to meet twice a month?”

Hmmm. Firstly, this novel appealed to me so much at the beginning, I binged read it. First half was okay. Second half... I started feeling bad for the ML. He loves the MC too much. I understand the MC went through some traumatic experience but his little to almost nonexistent way of showing affections to the ML was getting too frustrating. The ML loves him so much that the MC's bare minimum in their relationship is highly praised. As my own personal bias enters, I started viewing the relationship dynamic... more>> as unbalanced, and I'd never find myself in such a relationship where reassurance is only one sided. Their relationship only changed towards the end, with MC overcoming his hurdles and being more expressive. Even that...

As for the ML's big sacrifice, it saved their relationship alot but damn, I still think it was extreme. I don't think the MC deserves that much sacrifice but whatever, it's love and it's fiction.

I think the writer wanted to prove a point and is a fan of unconditional love where even the other party doesn't have to put much effort. That is portrayed with the ML's father.
Spoiler

I'm not excusing his cheating but if we're go by what was said at the beginning, his father really tried. The ML's Mom was portrayed to be a nitpicker, complainer and somehow unbearable making their whole years of marriage uncomfortable, trust lacking and love lacking even with the ML's father succumbing to all for peace.

Okay, it now seems like they're getting on track, why bring back the cheating with the first love? Even if it's to be done, couldn't it have happened in another way? Why try to soil his endurance, personalities, reducing it to nothing at the end?

[collapse]
The way his presence was wiped away in the novel later on was unfair. And the sudden redemption of the mom was just so... What was going on? Why do one party have to endure and love unconditionally more than the other party. This concept was shown in both relationships in the story. Is that a dream type of relationship the author admires or what?

Overall, I'm not really satisfied with the relationship dynamic. If you're comfortable with an almost mute MC with some trauma who needs to love himself, indirectly pushing that trauma on the ML and would rather die than profess his feelings for the ML who worships the ground he walks on, you'll surely enjoy it.

Excellent translation 👍

I have a special bias towards the novel, otherwise, my ratings could have been lower. <<less

Absolutely beautiful omegaverse slice of life. Made me cry, laugh, and feel sweetness.

MC & ML may not be perfect in navigating their relationship but they made a love that is only their's to cherish.

Points:

  • MC will not be a cup of tea of some readers he is cold and harsh outside, emotionally weak, and has a communication problem (yall cant expect an abandoned & discriminated person for nearly 10+ yrs to have a great communication skills and knows how to be affectionate, , , like ???? Hello????)
  • However, you will see how MC grows into a person that is willing to stand by ML's side. And this is I personally think the best point of the story.
  • ML!!!! He's the sweetest bub!!! He held on so strongly even when MC's was pushing him away so strongly. He is a MAN IN LOVE!!!
  • ML's mom. Hated her at the start but at the end she pulled through. She realized her faults in their problem and stepped up to be a loving mother both to ML & MC.
  • ML's father
    Spoiler

cheating is definitely a shock but not a surprise. He seems always somber when he talks about his first love. I believe him seeing his son (ML) challenging head-on something he gave up on (being with a beta) made him think of the what ifs of his first love especially that his son always confide to him about what to do.

    [collapse]
Overall, great story to cry to. Finishing the story and seeing how the two have grown in character especially MC (Tan Ning) makes my heart oh so so full.

Also, great translation by Panda Translations!! The reading experience was very smooth!

*****spoilers*****

While reading this novel, I didn't want to review it and just straight up comment on how much I disliked the ML's mother.

Now I've finished I can say that if a world of ABO truly existed, everything that occurred in this novel would be accurate. When it comes to Alpha and Omega, they're certain elements in an omega pheromones that helps with an Alpha's rut, and vice versa. And you want to tell me that and Alpha and beta would be in a relationship forever without the alpha every losing... more>> control and needing omega pheromones ? What a joke.

I know it's fantasy but based on the amount of ABO's I've read, for a high-classed Alpha, like our Ml, with severe rut disorder, going without omega pheromones for his entire life is simply impossible.

Thats what makes this novel realistic. His decision to remove his glands. It was heartbreaking and tearjerking, I wish he wouldn't have, but at that point I understood the author's point of view.

Back to the ML's mother, like I said, I didn't plan on reviewing and just commenting on how much I hated his mother but honestly I understand very much, doesn't mean I like her but I really understand her. Her emotions are raw and exactly what you'll expect any one in her situation to feel and the same goes for her actions. I'm not supporting her actions, don't get me wrong (I think I'm her no.1 unsupporter, I don't want to say hater because I honestly don't think I hate her) but I just wanted to state that her actions and reactions are expected and although not ideal or justified, that is what makes us human and she displayed just that.

Now about the MC, because I see him getting hate. Personally I'll start by saying that I'm always unfair in my judgment when it comes to Mc's, because I'm always on their side no matter what. But honestly, based on the character designed for him by the author I'll say all his actions are valid and very much understandable.

A world that is dominated by A and O relationships, you want him to believe that an alpha would abandon it all for him a beta ? Having being abandoned once he was not ready to take chances. Moreover, if I'm being honest, he made a realist decision by deciding to break up in the beginning. Having found out that Ml's parents went through his same situation and Ml's father had to marry an omega, ofcourse he won't think he's any different. He loved the ML in the beginning and "actively" pursued him the way he knows how to. Then reality caught up with him and he decided to break up. He lacks love so he has an avoidant personality, his first instinct is to run. How many stories have we seen when reading omegaverses about how people say "oh we ended things because I was a beta, we thought it would work but we couldn't defeat the need for pheromones" or "oh my parents didn't agree because he was a beta" or "oh we tried but after years in our relationship we couldn't overcome pheromones" and so on. Obviously we know they'll end up together (ie ML and Mc) because this is a HE novel but reality doesn't always work like that, just look at ML's father. All in all, like I said, this shows a realistic take on what the struggles of having and AlphaxBeta relationship would look like. And although I'm sad ML had to remove his glands, this was a big sacrifice that'll enhance their relationship and further it more. Because honestly I can't imagine ML being on drugs his entire life and never needing omega pheromones. So why not nip the problem at the bud to prevent problems and misunderstandings in the future.

About the Ml, I'll say that he's the most perfect boyfriend ever. He reassures MC, goes along with everything if it means the MC will be happy. He's always the first to apologize and bow his head. If we're being honest, MC needs a person like this, however ML deserves someone better. But who cares, he loves the MC. In reality I would definitely not allow ML to be with a person like MC because I'll be afraid the ML would feel the MC doesn't like him enough. But I think the ML is secure enough in himself, I don't know if he has insecurities in the relationship but even if he does, I believe he knows his worth and even though he gives more in the relationship emotionally, he doesn't care and is ready and happy to bear it all. I think that's why the term "love brain" exists. Hence why we have cheap attacks and cheap bottoms. Don't get me wrong, the ML is no where near cheap, he knows and feels the Mc's love and he fights for it passionately instead of trying to device schemes and act nonchalant. I fully believe that if MC falls out of love with ML and stands his ground about breaking up, the ML would move on (maybe after trying for a while). So he's not cheap, neither is he s*upid. He's just hopelessly in love, secure in himself and ready to fight for the relationship

Overall, this was not a lighthearted omegaverse novel, if that's what you're looking for I advice you just leave and go back, but if you want to read an omegaverse that displays real human behavior and actions when faced with situations that are beyond our control, I advice you stick around and read this beautiful tearjerker. 💕 <<less

I would like to preface that the translation is pretty solid.

My low rating is because of two things: Tan Ning and Lin Yexin. The way the author switched up was crazy.... more>>
Spoiler

Lin Song'an's father Lin Yexin, seemed like a good man. Yes, he had to marry Fang Lin while loving someone else but he made it work. Fang Lin was a handful with how difficult and suspicious she kept being.

What I do not understand is how it suddenly became a thing of Lin Yexin cheating with his old flame. That was very unnecessary. I guess the author wanted to show the difference between him and his son and how strong ML is, but there are better ways to do that. It came completely out of left field and seemed contrived.

[collapse]

Tan Ning was a chore to read. I see no reason why your current partner should deal with all the baggage of your past. As a human being, you should always be working on yourself, you can't be going about with trauma and lashing out on others. Lin Song'an deserves better. Even if Tan Ning couldn't talk about love, he could have been more caring! He could have shown affection!! He talks about standing beside ML one moment and in the next he's back to his insecurities and being a jerk. Are you the first person to be hurt? Why should one person be doing all the work in the relationship? Tan Ning irritated me badly, he always took a step forward and five steps back.

This book is actually 3 stars but I deducted one due to being irritated with Tan Ning. <<less

Until chapt 30 to 40 my honest review is, Lin Song An deserve better. I know that Tan Ning have trauma, but his indifference is beyond limits. He came to conclusion without communication at all. At least Lin Song An tried many things to be better, but Tan Ning only makes everything unworthy. When Tan Ning easly hating on Song An because of his words, Song An kind heartedly be patient and understand him. All the chapters tell us about Tan Ning point of view but it just feels like... more>> that this all just about how Song An struggles. He is always the one who apologise and struggle, but the only thing Tan Ning do is insecure, ovt and doubting. Whatever Tan Ning do makes me desperate istg. I feel so sorry for Song An. This book can be just 10 page if Tan Ning want to open up a lil bit 😭

And there is one thing that I realized after reading the story, Tan Ning changed to be better is mostly because of Qingrui, he help him little by little by spilling facts and inject confidence to Tang Ning and it's affect his relationship with people, even his roommates and Lin Qi's family 😭

Btw, I am with Lei Xin. Hahaha I have never been in this side before, against the MC and ml's relationship. Because whatever Lei Xin thought abaout their relationship is right 😭

Ps: this is my opinion btw, other people have their own opinion, I don't mean no harm <<less

It's been a while since I read such a sweet novel.

From start to finish, it was incredibly adorable, and I think what sets this novel apart from others is ML's extremely consistent and determined actions.

I understand MC's character and him as a person, but while reading, I sometimes wanted to knock on his head and say, "Hello? Anyone home, McFly?" However, ML understood MC's character deeply and was especially patient with him. Even in moments where he wasn't fully understanding, he knew how to exercise self-control or continued to put... more>> effort into their relationship. Of course, ML is human, and it's impossible for him to be flawless, but he was always willing to improve himself and consistently prioritized MC's feelings and thoughts. Most importantly, he was ready to wait for MC. He patiently waited for MC to open up to him.

As for MC's character, I don't have much to say. I didn't hate him overall, but I wouldn't say he ranks among my favorite MCs either. I just want to say this: love truly heals. It was enjoyable to read about MC's progress and the steps he took toward self-improvement throughout the story. Discovering the differences between the MC in the first chapter and the MC in the final chapter was delightful, and seeing him willing to overcome his past traumas through ML's love was beautiful. Of course, he achieved all of this thanks to ML's unconditional support and trust in him. (I can confidently say I loved the ML in this story. There might be a few points I could critique, but aside from those, I love how he treated MC.)

Compared to other novels with slowly opening MLs and the MCs who patiently wait for them, it was really fun to read the opposite dynamic this time, and it was a new experience for me.

The angst was well-balanced—not too much, not too little, just the right amount to sometimes make me feel anxious. That's why I liked it. The rest of the story was overwhelmingly sweet and cute, and I read it with a smile on my face the whole day.

There could have been extras, but the ending was still satisfying.

Except for one thing.

Spoiler

I couldn't leave without mentioning this. ML's sacrifice at the end deeply affected me. While I understand that it was necessary for the continuity of MC and ML's relationship in the context of the novel, it honestly bothered me. I don't really enjoy reading about characters who make irreversible sacrifices in novels because I think these sacrifices sometimes overshadow the relationship itself and make it impossible to imagine the relationship without them. But at the same time, I understand ML. So, even though I think it would've been much better if it hadn't happened, still, I can't deny that it added depth to the story.

The angst is actually killing me. I noticed little manifestations of the MC's childhood trauma seeping through every chapter, and heck was it making my heart sink. The ML is aware of this trauma and is trying really hard to accommodate MC and his burdens. But MC is like a rose, his stems are riddled with thorns. And ML, like a gardener, takes care of it, gets stung by the thorns inevitably, yet will still continue to cherish the rose, thorns and all.

The realism in this story is gut wrenching,... more>> it is represented that both characters are flawed, and in that sense, it made me realize that they are in fact humans and not just two-dimensional characters. Despite the nature of their physicalities going against them, they are still holding on, hurting each other in the process, yet they refuse to let go. Their struggles are REAL, and their reactions to these struggles are TOO REAL. <<less
