Hihi, I'm the translator for PHA!

I'm gonna come out and say that Pantsu Hero Alice isn't a gem of a novel, so don't go in expecting something like that. :) I've given PHA a 3/5 rating, and I'll share my thoughts on why I decided on this rating, and why I decided to pick up this novel despite it not being a perfect novel.

Cons:

1) Long-winded.

I'm sure many of people are aware that some Chinese web novels tend to "elaborate" their chapters for as long as possible and repeatedly bringing up the same information to increase their word count. Unfortunately, this is something that is relatively inevitable due to the way web novel authors are paid in China, and PHA is no exception.

2) Somewhat bland characters.

Apart from the few leading characters, most of the characters in this story are relatively two-dimensional. Secondary characters are given a label, and they mostly behave according to that label. Even in the case of the main characters, I can't say that they're very well-defined.

Neutral:

1) Plot

The story starts out interesting, but falls off after a few hundred chapters in as the story enters a cycle of repetition. The main character will come across problems, solve them, and take one step closer to the end-game. There really isn't much of a suspense. Though, that's probably because the story is meant to be a light-hearted one.

Pros:

1) Pantsu

2) Believable world setting. (Spoiler)

This is the main reason why this novel intrigued me and why I decided to pick up this novel.

Spoiler

I can't say that the world setting is unique, but it is solid and believable. The humans and demons aren't just going at each other's throat because of some convenient reason like "demons have been the world's enemies since time immemorial." Instead, the demons are fighting the rest of the world for a better living environment.

For those who haven't read the novel but don't mind spoilers, the demons in the story are living in a part of the world that is filled with "polluted mana, " while humans and the other races are living in a part of the world that is filled with "clean/pure mana." The demons are technically humans that have adapted to the polluted mana, and the method they adapted to this polluted environment is by growing appendages such as horns/wings/tails to filter the polluted mana. While the demons are no longer in danger of dying by staying in the polluted environment, it is still unpleasant for them to live there. The polluted environment also increases the difficulty of farming and etc., and valuable resources are scarce in this polluted environment. For these reasons, the demon race is trying to take over the unpolluted part of the world, which the humans, elves, and beastkin are occupying.

There are other such believable settings such as the origins of the Demon Kings and Heroes, the origins of Earth-like technology in the foreign fantasy world, and etc., but I won't be going into detail for those here.

While I admit that the MC using panties to fight also played a role in my decision to translate this novel, the world setting of PHA is what caught my eyes overall, and why I decided to translate this novel. I'm sure there are novels out there with much more unique and better settings, but if you have some time to spare and nothing to read, try giving PHA a read. :)

Once again, don't go in expecting to find a gem. If you want to read something that's 5/5, tough luck. This is just another cookie-cutter novel with a solid world setting. : (
Also, there's no yuri in PHA. While the interactions in the novel are mostly between females, there are no actual relationships established as of yet.

This novel is pretty good for someone like me who is looking for a light read with silly stories. From the description, the story seems to be le*d, but actually, it is pretty clean. Furthermore, the main character is likeable and there isn't much drama to bore the audience. It could be considered to be a pretty cute novel.

Maybe it gets worse later on, but nearly a hundred chapters in, this has been a pretty good experience.

The premise is a bit absurd (transmigrated girl has the power to turn panties into one-shot mini nukes) but taking that gag and running with it is something this series does well. It's primarily a comedy so this isn't a setting you need to take seriously... And for that reason it doesn't matter that the setting isn't deep and doesn't explore the consequences of having modern technology integrated into its fantasy.

If you... more>> try to read it as a serious novel it's definitely a flawed work, but if you just enjoy it as the light hearted comedy series that it is, it's great. <<less

Had its potential squandered, it's world building is as shallow and skin-deep. For example we keep being reminded of how demons live in harsh environment, and yet we are not shown what makes it harsh. Does it lack natural resources? Is it hard to farm? Are beast infecting the lands? Are demons likely to die of disease because of mana pollution? Nope, nothing we get no f*cking explanation and are just told that it is "harsh". It keeps being referenced but never fleshed out in details.

It's sociopolitical, economic, techn lvl,... more>> geography, all of its world building is shallow to the point of none-existent. We even get to see the demons lining up outside of the elven forest threatening the elves, and you know what "forces" that showed up? Just a bunch of f*cking soldier in metal armours, no f*cking armoured vehicle, no air support, no advanced ballistic and missile weapons despite the technological level of having internet and gps, just a bunch of f*cking people in enchanted armor. The author jave absolutely no knowledge on how army mobilized, especially army supported by modern techs.

It's political world building is even shallower. Just a bunch of heredity autocrat kingdoms, no republics, no federations, no political parties, no reformist activists, no reference of how and why their laws and constitution written in history., All of it just a bunch of "good kings". All despite having f*cking modern technologies.

We keep getting reminded that its modern world level, but do we get to experience it? Nope, where are the gigantic ads? The annoying ads in internet? The chain stores? The giant corporations? The traffick? The over concentration of population on a singe place? The messy tall complexes? Nope, nothing. Just vague description of "it feels like modern world". Even the cctv only sometimes exist for plot reasons and for the rest of times it doesn't exist.

Feels too cherry picking on the application of modern technology

Don't even get me started on the non-existent trade economics that are required to fuel a 21st century like civilization. It's f*cking non existent. I said the geography is shallow, it's not shallow, it doesn't exist. Seas used for trade? It doesn't exist. Major trade lanes? Nope. Border politics? Hahahahahah beside the shallow "human-demon border" there is none, you are curious how countries are placed geographically and what are it's effect for it's politics? Well you came to the wrong place.

The demons wish to occupy the humans land because their environment sucks. But this takes is even less f*cking fleshed out. Where are the immigrant demons on the human lands, where is the history of them being expelled? How are non-invading army immigrants are treated when they cross the border? How will demons transfer all their populations despite all of their infrastructures built on the demons lands? The demon-human border isn't even fleshed out, we are just told that there is just a mana that separate the two lands, no border outpost and army, there is no detail.

If theres one thing that can describe this disaster, is that its never fleshed out and shallow. Even the character are never fleshed out. The character back ground? I've reach 200 chapter and still doesn't know who the f*ck is Alice before she was isekai'd.

If you give zero f*ck about world building this is for you cause it's "funny" and light hearted. It certainly is light hearted, but funny? Debatable

Screw whoever called this "realistic".

On the positive side, I love the concept of taboo spell, a spell formula that can be learned by anyone but not use by everyone because of steep requirements, but it's principles can be applied after modification on smaller scale. It feels very scientific and grounds the rule of magic instead of some arbitrary shits like ice arrow is stronger than ice needle because "reasons

Still confuse about the rabbit, does it even shit, piss and eat, get dirty amd other stuff that hapens to a biological creature? <<less

Story is relatively light-hearted and fun. Translation was not bad. Dropped it because the new host is trying to make me enable their ads.

The first 4 paragraphs are just a mention of why I'm dropping this, you can find the specifics of the story and some issues and perhaps pros in the spoiler tab because I'm far too lazy to sort out what's a spoiler and what is not.

Well, this is a special one. It's one of those that doesn't do anything atrociously bad but also doesn't seem to have anything that makes you feel interested enough to keep on reading. At the start, it made me feel like dropping it due to... more>> boredom and it got slightly better after 20-30 chapters but really never improved. Had perhaps 3 laughs through 200 chapters, not nearly enough for a comedy/gag/parody novel.

Usually when I drop a novel, it's either because it's boring me half to death or that I hate one or many parts of it. In this novel, I don't really hate anything even if I dislike some stuff slightly, it does bore me but not extremely so. But after 200+ chapters, I fell asleep several times and these aren't even long chapters. It's just that nothing special happens, it never really moves on or becomes better/develops, it just stays largely the same with pretty much nothing happening, the more you read, the more you feel like you've already read each chapter before and the more you start to realize that it has so little to offer that you're better off not reading it at all if you have any novel, manga, game or anime to enjoy left whatsoever, which you obviously do as new chapters are released every day and you could never read through all of the novels out there.

I am dropping this now because I simply felt it was a waste of time. Not because I hated it a lot or because I felt it was so utterly boring. It just leaves me feeling a shallow feeling of dullness and like it's a waste of time with no potential.

Spoiler

Now then, onto what this novel is and why it's so long-winded and dull to read, especially as time goes on. Respect to the author for giving it a fair 3/5 rating because that's exactly what this deserves.

I can forgive everything else, but a parody/gag novel without decent comedy is like a pizza without any toppings whatsoever, plain bread. This novel utterly fails at being funny, while I will not lie and say I never laughed, about 3 times in 203 chapters isn't really good, now is it? A typical action/adventure novel will make me laugh far more times with just comedic relief. Of course, the general immaturity makes it less prone to provide laughs, we should expect that from the title but even immature jokes can be funny, these aren't.

The other things are important in normal novels but shouldn't be as important in a gag/comedy/parody novel, but sadly even these things matter to some extent and if all of them are bad, they aid in making the comedy bad as well.

First of all, lack of information. There's a severe lack of information on things, be it the protagonist's background, the world in general (no, it's not at all realistic on any level even by its own standards, it just tries to sound profound), the bunny that should be dead already by all standards and so on.

It's long-winded, the author talks a lot about nothing. Text about things that simply doesn't matter and doesn't even add any good backstory that is worth remembering or will ever be used again.

It's unchanging, nothing ever seems to change and not in a good way.

s*upidity of characters, all characters in this story are s*upid in some ways, especially the protagonist.

It's incredibly predictable, you know what will happen before it happens. Oh, and every important character appears to be female. Heroes, demon king, spies, alchemists, there has yet to be anyone of any real importance that are male that actually exists for more than a few chapters at best. 3-4 heroes showing up, all are female. The current demon king (that got abandoned by the demon king power), female. The thief, female, all friends in school that gets shown are female. The spies, all female. The elf student, female. God, female (loli). I never did like when the world population seems to be so skewed. Also, the MC seems to dread getting into a relationship with any male for reasons not explained other than that it's because of stuff before transmigrating, though the author pretends to have explained it.

Then we have the all-time favorite, logical fallacies. So many things are plain obvious yet never happens. So many ways to utilize panties in a quick way, but it took hell of a long time for her to realize something so obvious. The world is a kind of magitech society of similar technology level to earth or even superior in ways but using magic as power source, there's even things like power armor and armored vehicles as well as surveillance cameras, gps, weapons of mass destruction etc, yet nothing is even properly utilized, it's shallowly explained and then we get things like armies showing up in full armor and no tech used. Basically, it's used to make the world seem more interesting but the author doesn't bother to follow up on it properly. Also to enable the use of forums and so forth.

The rabbit is plain weird but is never really explained, seems to be unconscious almost 24/7, though it's said it spends 1 hour each day on eating and shitting and sleeps the rest because it knocks itself unconscious. It's never named either because of "fun". There was the idea of feeding misinformation to both sides through the forums, but after the initial 1-2 times, it never seems to happen again. Everyone appears incredibly s*upid in believing all the crap happening. I could go on and on but I won't because I've already explained enough.

[collapse]

So, in my opinion, it's not really worth reading. It's not offensively bad but it's just kinda bad. It won't fill you with rage and hate for the author but it will leave you feeling disappointed and kinda bored while not being boring to the point where you feel the need to drop it immediately, like it somehow hovers between "dreadfully boring" and "at least readable". The final nail in the coffin is how it never changes so after a few dozen to 100-200 chapters, you realize nothing happens and you're just wasting time reading the same boring thing over and over again and it just keeps on getting less interesting as the novelty wears off. <<less
