The FL doesn't cheat on the ML, nor do the ML cheat on the FL. Their relationship in 21st Century is one of the problem that keep being mentioned in the novel.In truth, the FL in 21st Century really did love the ML and so did the ML. Alas, misunderstanding. The FL is insecure about whether the ML really likes her or not. The ML is insecure about whether he is worthy to be liked by the FL or not.
The ML is... Extremely bad at communication. In the 21st Century, the ML isn't someone that is hauled to be a Male God. Well, at first. Later, he becomes Male God. Still, he considers himself as lowly thing. The shame and humiliation from his past are etched deep in his soul.
At first, he is someone on the bottom of the food chain. Not attractive. Bad at communication. Bad at understanding people and himself. A loner.
It is only until the FL step up that he becomes better... FL teach him to take care of himself better and support him so. Still, he becomes better in appearance only. He is bad at communication as evet. But, that fact is clouded by his cold-type beauty. Because of his bad communication skill, everyone keeps assuming and only assuming about his thoughts. This includes the FL.
The FL has been pursuing him for so long. She always got rejected, though. She believed that the ML accepted her in the end because the ML pity her.
So, one is overthinking, and one is bad at communication. A failure of communication could only lead to a failure of a relationship. There is no way for their relationship in the 21st Century to survive. Thus, they break up.
Like I said, the main problem in their relationship is their communication.
In the 21st Century, the FL keeps giving her love to the ML without getting a
significant response. She is the one who confessed. She is the one who proposed. The ML is passive in their relationship, so she is not confident in their relationship.
When there is an indication about him cheating, her confident crumbled to dust and she left. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Hence, the FL hired her friend to be her fake bf and 'cheated' the ML back.
The relationship ended with the two parties never reconciled. The FL died on a plane crash after that and she didn't know what happen to the ML later. The FL keeps lying to herself that she doesn't like the ML anymore.
Following it, they transmigrated to the Cultivation World. The ML doesn't want to have anything to do with the FL anymore (or so he thought) but he is weak to her. All in all, the FL is a lovely person as long as you don't cross her line. In this relationship, contrast to their 21st century, the ML keeps giving and giving without thinking he has give enough. The FL returns it, ofc. But, the insecurity from his first live is etched deep. No matter how good he is in the Cultivation World, he still think he was that unworhty lowlife of his first life.
The ML knows the FL is the same FL from 21st Century, but the FL doesn't know the ML is the same ML from the 21st century. The ML intends to keep it that way, as to let her forget the pathetic him from that life. But, honestly, that is a recipe for disaster. The more the FL loves the ML, the more the ML scared the FL will find out the truth and repulse him.

In the end, the ML becomes confident and learns to love himself. I'm so proud of him.
The FL also learns to not jump into conclusion not keep her dissatisfaction for herself.
Communication is the key, guys.
