This novel makes no sense or whatsoever. How come a two dimensional dense and eccentric MC became a surgeon in the first place? He is too naive and s*upid to be a doctor at the first place. He let everyone dance above his head and can't take any decisive firm decision for anything for avoiding any conflict. What kind of logic is that? The concept seemed ok and story at first seemed good enough but gradually the character development or the MC turned for worst. He is too much indecisive... more>> and masochist. Another lame MC despite having an S level cheat. <<less

I’m pulling my hair out, over how much a pushover the MC is, not only that he is incredibly passive. People are literally insulting him to his face and his response well I don’t talk much so I don’t have to respond to this or pretty people can say what they want without consequences it’s incredibly foolish. The final straw for me was when he was offered the opportunity to move up and make more money you know because he rents an apartment with someone else and he says “I... more>> don’t need this opportunity because I don’t have a girlfriend or courage to get one” just inane and short-sided. How about saving for future retire or you know anything else. I CANT STAND PUSHOVER MC WHO GET WALKED OVER BY EVERYONE. <<less

Including all the television shows I've watched, this is by far the best medical fiction I've ever read!

It should be noted that the author himself is a surgeon, which accounts for the author's in-depth descriptions of how medical professionals function, medical politics, medical disputes, diagnoses, and surgery. There are also numerous cases of rare diseases that I am unaware of. It's fascinating.

The main character, Zheng Ren, is steady and decisive. Despite having the system, he is hardworking and attentive. I can't imagine myself practicing the operation continuously for weeks, if... more>> not months, on a single patient. If it were me, I'd probably just give up. He is a great doctor and is definitely not a pushover. You must know that he's only 29 years old and is just a junior doctor from an undergraduate program, when the other leading professors and department directors whose he had contacted with are already in their 40s, 50s, and 60s with clinical experiences longer than his age. This setting alone can justify many of his seemingly s*upid too humble actions during the unpleasant encounters throughout the story. Although his skill level is higher and he has many achievements, he's still a junior doctor after all. It makes no sense for him to fight head-on with people with higher ranks. The best thing he could do is to be/act unbothered. This is how the society works. The fact that he loves his country and his patients this much, whether it's a propaganda or not, is admirable and suitable for his occupational setting.

Because there are almost three thousand chapters, the character growth might seem slow, but to me, it's glaringly noticeable. Now, he can handle interpersonal relationships and medical disputes by himself. This is already an improvement.

Although there are some flaws in his character, such as being bad at communication, being a conversation killjoy, and not caring about anything other than the surgery (which I think the author just put in for gimmick purposes), he is well aware that he can't save everyone all by himself and is never be so obstinate. I'd be more than happy to meet a doctor like him in real life.

Personally, the hardest part to read that makes me want to drop the novel is Su Yun, the assistant. He takes the word "disrespectful" to the next level. I really hate it when the man is unreasonably disrespectful towards everyone he's seen and everywhere he goes, whether they are the doctors, patients, or patients' family members. He's arrogant and always loves to nag and bite people like a rabid dog. It isn't like the patients and those famous figures were looking for him and his opinions anyway. It's Zheng Ren who did the treatments and consultations; I really couldn't understand where all his c*ckiness comes from. His personality is so annoying. Zheng Ren has 1000x better personality than him. In fact, everyone has a better personality than him. It took me so much patience to read through his deeds and conversations. And ironically, he and Zheng Ren are always together, like conjoined twins (sigh). I can't avoid seeing him at all. <<less

It is a very good slice of novel, nearly there. But not quite. You know what ruins it? Yup, guessed it. Propaganda, Nationalism, whatever you call it. The sh*t chinese authors usually put in the novels. Ok, let's talk about why this novel (should) feel good.

  1. The idea of system is beautifully implemented. Yes, you can practice surgeries to improve your skill. And until you unlock library, you had to do the reading by yourself; catch up with latest medical news y your means. Even after library unlocks, knowledge doesn't automatically gets implanted in brain. You had to find time to read it.
  2. The MC character - regards to his creed of putting patient first. In operation theatre or during emergency rescue, the steps taken to help patient; in contrast to his everyday life, how easily weak and trample-able he looks makes good impact for slice of life story.
  3. The sweet budding of romance - though as I read till just 630
Now the bad. Note that these are mostly present in nearly all CNs. But they are especially bad in the context of this novel. Oh the bullshit. Look here, I already rammed through many CN with bullshit. I tried to ignore or understand it. But here is whole lot of another level.

  1. Here's one. I have already read past 630 in past when translation didn't catch up. So took time to notice it this time. The translation - yes, the human translation was all over the place. Marginally better than mtl, but mixing up place names was bad experience.
  2. Hypocritical. Even if I consider novel in as separate universe, it says no new surgical methods have been awarded Nobel prize after some procedure where part of brain is cut off in 1949. Implying TIPS didn't so either. So just amending the procedure was enough to get prize... And MC going to Stockholm to perform surgery on a committee member (even though MC doesn't want or care about Nobel Prize, his country sure does. Even getting his passport before even finishing lunch) so he can grease the wheels.
  3. Get as much as face slapping stuffed in. I don't even need to give examples, its whats I estimate nearly 40% of novel is about. I put this here because as you all know, face slapping as a cliche depends on misunderstanding or MC remaining silent for too long (whole chapters sometimes). And doctors, being some of top ones at a given hospital getting face slapped - because they either misdiagnosed or underestimated MC skill level. Either reason proving their narrow minded hearts.
  4. Because any reasonably successful/skillful people in china HAD to be invited to a cup of tea, you know the usual stuff. They had to be made use of, in this case 2 months. This is not anger inducing, its cringe based vomiting inducing. But looking at how Jack Ma went invisible back then, I don't know what to say. Is novel telling you that every great person who gets "mission" is just serving country in a peaceful environment practicing tai-chi? Oh and every guy during this time speaks in proud/dignified and in xxxxx (optionally, kindly, gently, sarcastically, disdain, the other ways to speak in a CN novel).
  5. Because international brands are pricier, MC of course had to, I mean HAD TO, use local surgical supplies of inferior quality imitated from international brands' older stuff. The love MC has for FMC is almost as much, if not greater for the local brand. I hated this part so much. Not because MC uses it all the time. But because less skillful people can't get similar results with them and he should have said something when his peers misunderstood that point.
  6. Bit disrespectful with how author portrayed the German Doctor. Any new character enters the scene, always surprised by how German Doc looks like tamed dog with MC. Like German Doc thinks Nobel is too far away but later portrayed as sycophantic idiot who craves and does anything for Nobel.
Like I understand some of things - bullsh*t CN authors try to... more>> put in their novels. I mean west does its propaganda (every country does it. I realize it.) in subtle way. But in the context of a novel based on Doctor, that had his creeds as "saving lives" more than Nobel, I felt like his heart is very closed and narrow. Just enough to accommodate his country. I mean, every time I came across those lines, my mind wanders wondering how much better it would have been - if it just focused on being a good slice of life and medical novel.

Oh, btw; I just skipped and went straight to last few mtl chapter. The bullsh*t - the racism and nationalism doesn't change. I could add more good things if I stick till end, but I guess exponential times as many bad things to complain about. <<less

This is slept on. It's such a good book so far. It's kept a good pace and there isn't any dull moments. It's a medical system book so expect lots of surgeries but also character development. The MC starts off pretty isolated but he forms a team around himself that gets along pretty even if they're all a little weird.

The book also talks about the patients themselves and their personal lives and families. It makes those passerby characters more 3D.

I rate this story 2.7 out of 5 because while this story isn't revolutionary or epic it's a decent time pass read.

Of course it's filled with the usual Chinese tropes of face slapping, national propaganda etc, which is why I rate this lower. Also so far there have been no complications or fatalities in the patients and that's kind of unrealistic but well this is mainly a slice of life with system story, especially cause many medical procedures or supplies are replaced by "local" aka cheap imitations by Chinese medical... more>> companies. Though it's justified as some patients not being able to afford it (I've been there myself, having to go into debt to treat a disease is not fun), the constant advocation for using China based products seems wrong especially since MC is a doctor (aka a person who went through several years of education and training who has definitely seen multiple contributions from researchers and scientists from around the globe). And don't even start about the hospital politics. Finally the racism and the Chinese trope of showing that the MC is the best and no other person especially someone from another nation can be more skilled than him. Like wtf, it doesn't make sense for everyone else other than MC to be a narrow minded judgemental person.

What I do like though is that while the MC gets the cheat system he actually has to practice his skills and gain the latest knowledge himself. Also I like that he ignores the system missions and rewards in favour of saving the life of the patient first.

Overall, I like the idea but if the author got rid off the unnecessary CN toxicity and made the MC more fleshed out than a plain piece of cardboard then this story could definitely be way better. (Well that's just opinion) <<less

Over 500 chapters in, still not one of MC's patients died. Well, if you don't count the ones that left the hospital knowing there's no cure for them. Anyhow.

It's quite a typical hospital webnovel with the usual hospital tropes. They cut out appendixes like it's nothing. That seems to be any new surgeon-with-a-system bread and butter. Usually no one talks to the patient, the family members decide everything. About half the conflicts are patients with weird family members. It repeats a lot, over and over again. Other half is hospital... more>> politics, but it's not interesting.

It's still readable if a hospital novel is your thing. It's just that it doesn't stand out in any way. Maybe a filler novel if you're tired reading other stuff.

Translation quality is a problem. It was okay at first but then drops. Characters switch their genders all the time. Wrong names are inserted. <<less

I liked it. Managed to read it to the latest translated chapter even though the translation gone apeshit. Quite good. If someone ever picks this up again and continue the translation then I would surely reread it again.

It's true that the MC is quite passive whenever aggression is pointed at him but that's because he doesn't care. He's not s*upid, he just doesn't want to waste time on unnecessary matters. It's just because at the start he was just a simple surgeon with no talents whatsoever and then suddenly he... more>> gained strength to showcase so of course he wouldn't be able to adapt to the actions targeted at him due to jealousy. But don't worry he wont be forever a pushover because:

Spoiler

He will gained an assistant who will deal with those 'unnecessary' disturbances in his path on becoming the best surgeon.

[collapse]

Try reading really. What do you know, it might fit your taste. Yes I agree I dropped it when I first read it at chapter 100+ but when I decided to pick it up again I got a surprise. Managed to read to finish reading it to the latest chapter and I carried on even though the translation was literally so tr*sh. Would surely re-read this again in the future if I don't have story to read anymore. <<less

I quite like this novel for the unique mechanics and setting, though the synopsis of the novel might not be the most accurate. Given that most medical novels tend to focus on other aspects to entertain readers, I think it's quite a breath of fresh air to have a novel that really pays attention to western surgical medicine.

The way the MC interacts with his colleagues and patients seems appropriate to me as well, though his withdrawn character can be a bit infuriating at times.

This isn't a system-heavy novel, and its... more>> role seems to be limited to allowing the MC to acquire knowledge and experience in short amounts of time. <<less

Disappointing. Reads like we are expected to know the features of his system or something like that. It feels to me the author has a clear picture of how the story is going but for some reason only wrote like 35% of that picture so we're in the dark.

Characters are pretty irrational and sometimes make very little sense in a situation. I'm tempted to believe there's some huge translation errors going on but it is so well proofread and cleaned that I couldn't really be sure.

Pales in comparison to the... more>> other books of the same "Modern medical system slice of life" -genre. <<less

This novel is good enough for slice of life. The characters have very little development. MC with patient and families are passive enough.

Spoiler

There's no need for move to higher hospital or higher stage, because system have everything he need to become better surgeon.

[collapse]

The best part is when he do surgery tho. Yeah I know it was just medical jargon which I dont even know what is that. The feeling for emergency is good enough.
