I have been reading the raws of this comedic adventure non-stop and enjoying it immensely (c598 of 849, whereas the translations are only up to 8 as of this review). Only writing this review because I randomly picked it up and liked it, but I might have passed on it since the description tells you nothing, and there are only 2 reviews as of this posting.

The MC transmigrates to a martial arts world and gets a leveling system that can improve any skill, as long as he can grind... more>> enough experience. It starts out as a slice of life story for a few dozen chapters until the plot starts to develop, which gives the MC a purpose for improving his level & skills.

What makes the story interesting is the MC. He is a scoundrel who enjoys praise and tries to maintain a courageous & heroic appearance in front of others, just so that he gets more praise lavished upon him. For example, much later on
Spoiler

He stumbles upon a girl being attacked by several male bandits. Instead of rushing out immediately, he hides in the shadows waiting for the right moment to save her that would maximize the girl's gratitude. However, when a bandit proclaims he is about to use a skill that would instantly remove all the clothes from the target, the MC immediately rushes out, not to protect the chastity of the girl, but to be able to learn the skill for his own use! And then he justifies it to himself by saying such an evil skill needs to be safeguarded by someone as virtuous as himself.

[collapse]
This is just one of several ongoing jokes in the story, which is good since you don't want the author constantly bashing the reader over the head with just one type of joke (Library of Heaven's Path is guilty of this all the way up to chapter 360, but still a funny story).

The martial skills he learns are... unconventional, and as a result, hilarious in their usage.
Spoiler

Nut cracker punch. Transgenderfication. vi*gra pills. A drill that pierces the heave... your ass.

[collapse]

A previous review stated that the MC learns a skill that improves the talent of others easily which ruined the story for that reviewer. After almost 600 chapters,
Spoiler

none of his students do anything that helps him against his enemies. Improving the talent just improves how much potential his students have, or how quickly his students learn. Yes he is also able to teach the skills he has learned to others, but his students have to grind the skills up from level 1.

[collapse]
So that skill isn't OP and doesn't affect the story at all.

The knowledge he has from the modern world is mainly the story books he has read e.g. when he expects a boss fight, or what he expects a villain to say. Doesn't get in the way of the story.

There's more to like, but I'm not some professional reviewer that can articulately dissect the story / characters / settings, and I'd rather get back to reading the story. I just want this review to give you a better understanding of what the story is about, since I enjoy it and hope you will too. <<less

After 813 chapters, I'm simply too deep inside this thing to quit. But I wish I had quit... a long time ago. Let's go over the reasons you may quit this novel.

  1. MC. His personality is inconsistent, even after 800 chapters he's hardly different, he's beyond OP to the point that he literally can't be killed (and this is the case pretty much 150-200 chapters in), his skills are simply dumb (one or two are fine, but his entire arsenal pretty much revolves around kicking balls, growing b**bs and twisting the 'earth'), he has plot armor thicker than the Wall of China, he can't stay low-profile no matter what's up and will dive in regardless of how stronger the enemy is... there's simply a myriad of reasons I can come up with as to why this is a simply boring MC. Everything is handed to him on a platter, the 'system' is pretty much a deus-ex machina, he's the bestest ever in crafting and pill making without putting in an ounce of effort, the 'Heaven and Earth Smelt' is the bullshitiest thing ever, and, quite frankly, his repetitive antics can get quite frustrating down the line (especially when he's talking in 3rd person, or when he calls himself Motherf*cking Human King and everyone starts calling him that; I rolled my eyes so hard for like 150 straight chapters they nearly fell out of their pockets).
  2. The world. It's so underdeveloped it's almost tear-inducing. WebNovels are usually decent at world building because they tend to have ten dickillion chapters, but SS simply missed the mark. World is glossed over, and by the time the usual 'ascending' kicks in, we know very little of the world he just spent like 500 chapters in.
  3. There's no logic behind his system. Even with other novels that include some sort of a game-style system in another world, there's usually some form of logic. Here? There's none. The system can do literally anything and everything and it's just a question of whether it will do it or not. There's nothing restricting it, there are no rules whatsoever, and that's simply not interesting. When anything can happen at the drop of a hat, tension is lost.
  4. Filler. Filler. Filler. Oh god, the filler. There's so much filler here it can give ED a run for its money. Well, maybe not, but it's still horrendous. Dozens of chapters sometimes fly by without anything happening, shitty 'HOW BRAZEN' 'I'M BRAZEN?! YOURS TRULY IS A GOD AMONGST MEN BLAH BLAH BLAH' "dialogues" that just make you want to vomit, and fights lasting chapters upon chapters that are neither fun nor tense because you know there's no way that MC can ever lose or die.
  5. Romance. Oh. God.
  6. Everyone except MC is a dumbass. That's right. Even his friends and lovers. Everyone's a dumbass beyond dumbasses. There's no emotional attachment to be had, and when his first sect got exterminated, I honestly just thought it was a damn time we went on some sort of an adventure. But nope, the s*upidity continued.
Overall, SS isn't really that bad; there are some funny moments here and there, and, overall, it has its own unique charms that make it stand out from the crowd. However, it's riddled by far too many problems to be an interesting novel so, by any means, do think about those 6 things and how important they are to you before starting this. Chapters are usually on the shorter side, though, so it's not that much... more>> of a chore to read at the very least. <<less

The story seemed like it would be fun, but relatively early in the series the author makes the main character a god, where he can improve the talents of others easily, which shows that there will never be a serious enemy for the MC as he can improve the talents of others if his enemy is very talented he can just make his student as talented as his enemy which ruined the story completely.

Right off the bat. I can tell this book will be epic... In terms of comedy. MC Transmigrates to another world and receives the martial arts system that helps him become OP AF. These first two chapters reminds me of "Great Demon King" where the MC is a punching bag in the beginning. This book is a lot like that but with a lighter tone. No dark scenes of people being slaughtered and the enemies in the story are laughable to an extent.

This story is more of comedy and slice... more>> of life. DO NOT EXPECT A HARDCORE DARK THEMED STORY.

To those of you that don't like this story because it is too light hearted, WELL DUHH this story will never be a hardcore story so dont give it a low rating just because you like stories where the MC is constantly being bullied and on the verge of death. <<less

What do you get when you bring a game system into a cultivation world? Story is freaking hilarious. MC stops at nothing to improve his XP and levels even if he has to slap other people's balls to do it. Even if he has to slap his own balls LOL. Basically the game mechanics forces him to do ludicrous sh*t to improve his level and he is the kind of guy who would do it without thinking twice. His lack of self-reflection - or rather, his incredible ability to rationalize... more>> all of his ridiculous decisions - is one of the selling points of this webnovel. Very genre-aware. I hope it stays funny. <<less

Sigh... So many regrets.

This novel had potential. I won't deny that. I also won't deny enjoying the first 400 chapters or so quite a lot. So, surely my 1/5 star rating must be really unreasonable, right? No, actually not. It's truly not unreasonable at all. Let me tell you why.

This novel started out as a nice gag novel with a lot of ridiculousness. The MC was kinda hilarious and a decent guy overall. He did all kinds of sh*t and one funny, kinda new thing popped up after another. The... more>> MC went on a crusade with his system while doing all the things that should never be possible and screwing everyone over. It was truly an enjoyable novel at that time, worthy of a 4/5 in score (I'm not as lenient as some other people who just give 5/5 stars whenever they just enjoy a novel, it needs to be INCREDIBLY good for that). However, after 400 chapters, we noticed more and more that the author had run out of both steam and materials. He should've ended it back then. But he kept on going like a car that has pretty much run out of gas yet can still go a bit further while shaking on the verge of shutdown. This kept on going for the other 700+ chapters and you noticed how the gas just got lower and lower until the car not only stopped at chapter 1159, it freaking exploded into a huge mess.

Maybe some people would argue that even if it turned to crap, I should still give it a 2/5, but no, it was just THAT bad that any previous enjoyment disappeared like a puff of smoke. The filler became more and more prevalent and the author was just losing more drive for every single chapter. In the end, the last several hundred chapters are extremely rushed as the MC just flies through all the big realms and gets opportunities to the left and right without any build-up at all. The MC also turns into a true pscyho stabber that kills people for no other reason than experience. Especially the last few hundred chapters, it gets more and more obvious that the MC lost any moral values he ever had and the author couldn't be arsed to think anymore and just funneled out word count chapters. The MC acts like a moron that no one should be able to relate to. He's no longer that guy who kinda thinks and schemes beforehand, he just brute-forces his way through everything and stabs people without a care in the world. Plot armor solves EVERYTHING as the MC rushes through everything without thinking twice about anything. While there was some rare jokes here and there that made me laugh a little, they were truly rare.

Spoiler

In the end, it turns out that the whole thing was just a story written by some supreme being that is actually the author's self-insert, that being even shares the same name as the author. Then it turns out that the MC IS the system along with myriad wills or whatever and everything is created by him. He destroys EVERYTHING with a single punch only to create myriad realms and whatever, even himself. Everything goes into an infinite loop where the new MC starts rising again and the old MC just sleeps and small parts of his system are sent out once in a while. The exact same things will happen again. Talk about a bad ending...

[collapse]

Don't even get me started on the "romance", story and plot holes. They're just so bad that you have to see it for yourself to believe it.

I recommend that you don't read any further than when the MC goes to the second world. It's not worth it. It is indeed funny at the start but the rest of the chapters makes sure that all the plus points gets deducted and the overall score turns negative.
Spoiler

I put this in a spoiler tag because it's related to this author and his other novels rather than this novel itself. Just a tip, "a valiant life" (the author's next novel) suffers from similar issues like this one, but that one was repetitive from the start and after 430 chapters, the author showed off that he's an xenophobic racist which I had already come to suspect from earlier chapters in that novel, which isn't unusual with chinese authors (and that's why I avoid modern day tagged chinese novels), but I thought better about this author, turns out I was wrong. He's now one of my "blacklisted" authors that I will never read anything from again. I gave him many chances but he kept on screwing up

This is disappointing. The premise is clever and interesting, but the execution? Hogwash.

The MC is only interested in levelling, not exploring this amazing world.

He is too greedy on levelling that he don't realize that he is too powerful. His method is boring too. It would be better in the longterm if he levels up by exploring the Sect. But no, he just focus on seeking enemies.

Started by reading the English translation on Qidian, I found the beginning parts of the novel to be quite interesting. The release pace was just too slow for me, it'd take about 2 years for the novel to completely translate, I went ahead and read the raws myself.

Spoiler

The First Arc revolves around the Saint Sect where MC gains the system and gradually becomes a leading figure in the sect where he then fakes death to leave the sect. One thing that downplayed the novel for me was that the MC was way too emotionally attached and at times naive. [IMO] He feels too much attachment towards the Saint Sect which in no way treated him well. Ex. When the sect was destroyed and he felt like he had lost purpose in life. Naivety involves his inability to value his own abilities, he just doesn't seek to get the most out of the system. Perhaps due to the author's hopes to not make the MC more OP than he already is, he causes the MC to be incredibly limited in his ability to utilize the system. The storyline then gets repetitive, he joins the main branch of the Saint Sect and first arc pretty much repeats itself, he goes around making trouble and would probably cause another sect destruction (probably)

Additionally, the skills that the MC learns are too unconventional and unlike traditional MC's. One or two skills of such are fine, but he has a whole skill set that he'd pass down to his sect. Ex. Like skills that make the woman chest bigger? The author tries to hard to add comedy that just ruins the flow. Perhaps I'd be proven wrong as I read further, as of now 3/5

This novel is freaking hilarious. It has a great mix of comedy types (shamelessness, highbrow, lowbrow, ridiculous situations). This is not a "fight against hard enemies and barely survive but level up last minute and win" type of novel. From the get-go, the MC is way too OP. He doesn't really have any challenges (except for one instance), and he probably won't have too many in the future. What makes this novel great is how the MC deals with his level of OP in crazy ways that are just way... more>> too funny. There is a small portion where it tries to turn the novel serious, but it passes by quickly and I thought it was a nice break so I could take a breath from laughing so hard (binge read up to c. 120 in 1 go). THIS IS NOT A SERIOUS NOVEL, if you know that, it is one of the best out there at the moment.

edit chapter 121: the MC is the perfect mix of a total idiot and a lucky genius. It is one of the few MCs who gets away with not optimizing his skillset, his choices, or his companions. You just expect him to make terrible decisions, rationalize them, and then use his OP-ness to cover it all up in a totally unexpected/shameless way. The MC's character matches his choices, and it makes for great reading that sucks you in and makes you want another laugh.

Edit Chapter 373: This novel has been using the same troupe over and over again (MC saves party in need last minute) for most of the past few chapters. Normally, I would have a big problem with this and rage at the story being only filler. But the thing is, every time he comes to the rescue, something totally ridiculous happens.
Spoiler

From shooting down a god with a giant OP dildo, to using custom vi*gra (Biggra) to make the lightning striking him "run out of juice", to dressing up Chicky in an inflatable T-rex costume.

[collapse]
And it is freaking hilarious. I am not reading for the plot. I am reading for the sheer hilarity of the MC's antics and the Authors creative situations. <<less

This book is a harem, so don't listen to the people that are on chapter 500 saying it's not. Even though the harem is forced, it's still one. Just two women overall. The novel is hilarious and everything except the ending was fine. The ending was so dumb I got frustrated. The MC, Lin Fan, finds out that he is the only being that exists. Even in the past, present, and future. Even in all of reality and parallel universe. The other characters were created by him. Meaning there was really no point of the story.

Worth trying if you’re after a relaxing story. As a non-serious, easygoing parody, it’s really funny. Unfortunately, the author tries to make the plot serious at one point, and in doing so he tr*shes what he’d written up to that point and reveals that he can’t write serious, logical events to save his life.

4-5 stars for the majority of the story, 1-2 stars for the “serious” (ridiculous) bit. Fortunately, the story’s stopped trying to be serious since then and returned to being comedic.

Hehe hilarious! It's perfect. No discrimination, no "harem" sigh every novel that has harem now is almost ruined, gtfo. The story is funny but do keep note that when the story gets serious, it f*ckin gets serious! And when he gets so angry and sad his rage becomes a wrath from the heavens! BUT most of the story keeps it's interesting pace with the touch of comedy throughout. Sigh where are the translators for this? This is a legendary hidden gem! I'm a 5 star person.

why?

  • MC is super hilarious, outrageous and simply doesn't take the story seriously. OMG.
  • From the other reviews I went into this story being aware that COMEDY tag should be the 1st among lords. Please, please! don't go into this story thinking it is serious shite. It's not. It's more Library of Heavens Path than Emperors Domination...
  • Face slapping is a thing. Live it, breathe it, trust in it.
  • Ball slapping is a technique, "monkey steals peaches!"... lots of silly low brow humor. If you can't handle the balls, don't play in the court. Our balls are the grandest balls of all!!
  • Eternal Donger. 'nuf said.
  • Supporting cast are lively and as entertaining as the MC.
  • World building is very detailed.
  • Qidian translators and editors seem to know their stuff.
If you are still reading... more>> this review. Then you too may like our fancy balls. Because we got the best balls around!

Originally, I wanted to wait until more chapters came out before I wrote a review since too few chapters really doesn't give a good impression but... I don't foresee the style of writing changing anytime soon and it's just too hilarious to NOT try and drag more readers into this mess of a novel.

There's not much to explain here, no major plot or anything has been revealed (some foreshadowing has been done though), but that's not the crux of the "story" at all, this is literally the Author having fun... more>> with a genre that is usually overly serious. It's hilarious and very worth the reader's time if they're looking for light reads. <<less

There are more chapters on web novel

Also don't believe GinMagi he/she judged too early

1. Later chapters there are some enemies Lin Fan has to be serious (despicable) to win or have luck or just run away

2. His students aren't as good as his enemies even when years past well they're kinda but only for the old enemies of his that was already dead

For kagi

Lin Fan did that cause he knows he can get away or just beat them up and he (spoiler not gonna say anymore)

The humor is great in this, some lines almost as good as Castle of Black Iron, and it's one of the reasons I stick to it still. The progression is a bit funny, and some jokes are setup over a long time, I like that there is dedication to some jokes almost equivalent to plot setups in other novels.

This novel is good although there is nothing new about the so called system as I read many novels with similar theme. What disappoint me the most is the plot and character relationship.

For the MC everyone technically everything (including beautiful women) are XP!

It was like the novel is just like playing a level up game without directions! Much worse in order to change the setting there is a FORCE destruction as in everything is deleted so MC can start again in a different plot...

Aside from this everything was alright including... more>> MC's character, even supporting cast are OK but so far author has made a clear line that MC well be forever alone in this novel, all people he meet are just passer by (XP to be exact)

You will also notice some of the authors Fetishism as for some odd reason the author love to mention it in a few chapters, if it isn't a fetish then no idea what it is called. <<less

I was sold off the moment I read the synopsis of this novel. THis novel doesn't take itself seriously, instead it accepts the truth and troll all the way. The strongest system is actually the strongest trolling system, he f*cks with everyone and makes enemies on purpose which is what a true troll does.

The Mc's is an a**hole, a real one at that. Maybe the beating he get in the early chapters twisted his brain up. And the MC also got an absolutely OP technique right off the bat that... more>> though can be only used against men, but it's op as hell (at level 100 able to destroy the balls of literal gods).
