I started reading this and ended up mtl-ing the whole thing (it's easy enough to read and decipher mtl for this though a couple of words are translated consistently wrong such as tiger turning into worm or big bug and occasional issues with gender/names but not too awful). This story actually got me into feilds of gold and a bunch of other similar novels. This one is absolutely my favorite though the others are good too, but it's just a little more special. The romance isn't a rollercoaster but more... more>> something stable and powerful.

I just really love the main couple and their inherent understanding of one another. I don't mean that they have telepathy but more they don't have any miscommunications and are both willing to take care of one another without fail. In the beginning, MC takes care of ML and his family then later he works hard to protect her and give her the life she deserves.

They both are willing to do unconventional and even things that are looked down on for one another. Usually you just get the ML tolerating all the stuff the MC wants so they help cuz they love them but are still kind of infantilizing their partner in webnovels, but the ML here is truly willing to respect and actually follow the MC in the beginning and then he's still doing it but also becomes someone strong enough to stand for her. One of my favorite minute details is that the ML cooks for her and the family even though a scholar cooking or stepping into the kitchen is considered shameful- he doesn't even think twice about pride or anything at all from the very beginning and he's not as good as her but he eventually becomes better at it.

He sees that she's trying to protect her and his family and evenly splits as many of the chores as he can with her no matter how embarrassing he was raised to believe it is. Even when he becomes this government official and knows people would disapprove, he still makes her breakfast at some point. It's very different from a lot of ML and MC that let dumb things happen for the sake of pride like chapters of misunderstandings and/or convoluted plots. Neither character here gives a single thought to their pride and understand their survival and their lives and relationships are more important. It doesn't mean they don't have any pride or self respect though. It's just they see what's important and what's not.

Plus when it comes out that ML actually has a pedigree or whatever and MC doesn't, that doesn't change anything between them and for the most part, for many side characters either.

Spoiler

The general who happens to be his biological cousin or something tries to convince ML that he can do better but ML shuts him down immediately and isn't afraid to tell him that he doesn't care about his opinion so bu*t out. To be fair, that's pretty expected from a ML of a romance novel like this one, but it's the way he does it that I love. We see ml's respectful attitude and even the two getting closer a little but the second the general suggests that you can immediately feel the distance between them which I find pretty realistic and heartwarming. You feel his anger for the general looking down on his wife but he doesn't do anything rash and maintains his calm and simply tells the general to leave. He doesn't go out of his way to really offend the general (though he kind of does insult him a little) but he's never willing to really be close again and stuff. I thought it was extremely refreshingly handled.

[collapse]

Additionally I really do love the bond between their families- it's so adorable and sweet. They only had each other and you can tell how much they truly actually care about each other. The youngest sister of the MC is basically raised as the daughter of the main couple whom everyone adores. Even when they actually have a daughter later on no one ignores her. Even the grandparents and pseudo-masters (related to ML and adoptive to mc) later treat all of them mostly the same whether they're related or not. I just really appreciate the warmth and the lack of dogblood drama with scheming sisters and incompetent brothers and etc.

Most of the drama at the beginning comes from mc's grandparents and uncle, but even the grandfather gets some redemption sort of. Most (around 1/2) the characters that offend the main couple manage to get some kind of redemption or life after that isn't completely ruined which is super nice. Later on there's some survival aspects and then there's all the stuff with fighting for power as government officials and fighting corruption, but honestly most of this novel is pretty chill. It's not entirely about revenge and honestly I don't remember very much revenge at although I do remember there was some.

Overall I love this novel with all my heart and it does obviously have some flaws but I appreciate it anyway enough to ignore them. It's definitely worth reading for people looking for something mostly peaceful and absolutely cute. I think this is potentially my favorite ML out of anything I've read recently. <<less

First time I've willingly read a novel with more than 500 chapters and I have no regrets! Okay maybe 1 regret and that is for this gem to not have a proper translation that it deserved! Though the MTL is not the best, I still persevered because seeing these precious kiddos grow up and mature is definitely damn worth my time and money (bought the MTL from Kindle and it's more understandable than reading the raws).

There are many reasons why you should read this but this is my top 5:

Spoiler

1. The kids. My gosh they are truly lovable, every single one of them; from the ML, Liu Zhimo (who was only 12 in the beginning of the story), his younger brother Zhiyan (6) and younger sister Rourou (2) to the FL, Li Qinglin (10), her younger brother Qingfeng (5) and younger sister Ningning (newborn). Their trust and loyalty towards each other as they only have one another to rely on is super commendable. Then later on, ML and FL's daughter and twin boys came along to join in their tight-knit clan.

2. The fluff. ML and FL love and care for each other and they are not afraid to show it. They complement each other as they both have their own strengths and weaknesses which makes them the dream couple with their perfect team dynamic.

3. Their "pets". It started with a cub tiger whose mother was killed by a bear and was then adopted by the FL. Then Ah Huang (tiger) got married lol so they had an additional white tiger joining their family. Can't forget their baby cub Spot whose main job is to infuriate his tiger papa and to have flower petal baths kekeke. A shameless foodie wolf then joined in the gang later on. FL could communicate with them because of her spiritual water which she feeds to them.

4. Doting and foodie Grandpas! Grandpa Xue (the imperial doctor), Grandpa Lou (the Grand tutor), Grandpa Liu (ML's General paternal grandpa) and Grandpa Lu (ML's maternal grandpa) when they fight each other for the children's time and affection I swear I loled every single time!

5. Happy Endings for all the siblings. We get to see both FL's and ML's siblings get married and even have the very last chapter as their daughter's wedding with everyone including their pets sending her off (I cried ngl)

[collapse]

I lost a lot of sleep just to stay up and finish reading this aaaand now I'm having withdrawals coz I really felt as if I was a part of their family and went through the ups and downs with them. *SIGH* Why do all good things come to an end? 😭 <<less

Love the couple in the story. From start to finish they love each other dearly and face their troubles together. Despite any difficulties they face, it is still a fluffy story with lots of love.

I love it ❤❤❤

Got some great thrills and suspense. Sometimes I even doubt if MC could live through the situation, even though she's the MC ??

Spoiler

I love how MC and ML complement each other and how ML doesnt take MC being the main pillar of their family the wrong way, like, even with his friend from school:

'Xiang Yunfei silently closed his mouth and looked at Liu Zhimo with strange eyes, "Zi Qian, so, are you dependent on your fiancee?"

"Yes, she feeds me." Liu Zhimo raised his lips, "Don't be jealous that I have such a good fiancee."'

-MTL, Chapter 137

I cried a lot of times ???

Its more on family love and childcare.

This is really great ❤❤❤

Not sure why the rating for this is so low when it's not actually that bad. Just like other novels you'll have to suspend disbelief and there's some weird stuff but it's about the same quality or even better than some other novels out there with higher rating (*cough* Transmigrated into a Parvenu’s Ex-wife in the ‘90s *cough*).

This is a nice story.

I've read through the whole thing on Babel. Yes, this required some money, but I did not mind it. Yes, the translations/MTL was a bit bad, but it was better than other translations - it comprehensible enough if you ignore the bad grammars. Furthermore, I liked it enough to bare through it.

I would have rated it 5 stars, but because of the translation, I had to give it a 4.

It is not as farm oriented as Field of Gold, but it is about a transmigrated girl... more>> who used her previous knowledge to survive - nothing world-changing though.

In the beginning, since she was more knowledgeable and an "adult", she had a more "dominant" role over her fiancée, but as time passed the relationship balanced out.

The MC is not overpowered, but she is strong. It is also sweet to read since the ML is very loyal, especially since the MC basically took care of him and his siblings.

Some people may not like it since the MC become "weaker", but I just think the power dynamic between the couple balanced itself out.

Spoiler

For example, the MC is strong in her street smart; she hunts, earned the money, and was basically the breadwinner between the two while the ML was your typical "weak" scholar. The ML has his strength, but it was mostly helping the MC out and taking care of her/protecting her when needed which basically meant, standing up for her during crisis. Fortunately, the ML regained his strength by studying and becoming a successful official to support the family/MC. I especially like his attitude and how he did not mind being "kept" (according to a side character).

[collapse]

It also sometime amusing and sweet to read because we get to meet some shameless, but lovable characters.

Spoiler

Some of the elders/guardians the couple accumulated get jealous of each other and got passionate in going into the mountain and living a more rural life.

[collapse]

This is definitely a fluffy novel with a few moments of conflicts. Not the best I have read, but one of my favourites. <<less

If you like Fields of Gold, you will like this book. The premise is very much the same but is much much darker. There is no parent figure for the ML, and she has to basically take care of two small children (one newborn and the mother dies after birth). The only help she has is the male lead who is also parentless and has a younger brother and sister as well. So, in a way she takes care of 4 young children all alone. The villagers are helpful and... more>> relatives are snake, and that is how the story progresses. Oh, she has a golden finger as opposed to magical stone in Fields of Gold, but she is not very sure of the power unlike the ML of FOG where she got guidance from the stone.

Why I love this novel is because the struggle is very real and the ML is gutsy. She is very strong mentally and quite aggressive. The male lead is in fact second fiddle to her in the first arc of the story and in the second values her immensely throughout his life. The male lead is my favorite in this genre and will steal your heart.

Spoiler

The main lead is so gutsy and strong and she doesn't hesitate to kill an enemy within min of them spotting each other and she was not even a teen then! And the great thing about the novel is that it is very true to life as she immediately has PTSD from the mu*der. The male lead is tamer in comparison, he becomes cunning and astute in adult life but never had to mu*der someone.

[collapse]

The only issue with the novel is that there is not much romance because as the story starts both the leads are already engaged. So there is no chance of a love triangle or tension. Some secondary love characters do crop up later, but they are never a challenge for this couple. <<less

The story started out strong. Everything that happened brought a thrill to reading. It was a 5/5 story up to exactly chapter 123. After that, there was a time skip and then the flaws of the characters really came into view. The antagonists are just plain stpid. Their logic is so warped that it was so irritating to read. There is no character development whatsoever even after years have passed in the story (even for MC and ML). The enemies are way too shameless that you can see that the... more>> author couldn't find other ways to create a 'drama' in the story.

I also can't help but comment on the two tigers taken care of by MC's family. It was repeatedly stated how these tigers l**ked them as a form of affection. A tiger's tongue IS WAY TOO ROUGH for it to be anywhere near your skin. In the story, the tigers lick adults, children, and even a literal baby. A tiger's tongue is capable of licking paint on a wall - if it becomes aggressive, it can lick your skin off. There was also a scene where a bear just passes MC (and her family) because it wasn't able to detect them. The author assumed that just because the bear can't see you, it cannot detect you. NO. THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS. Let me just copy-paste this statement from NIEHS, "A bear's sense of smell is 7 times better than a blood hound's or 2100 times better than a human's." I get that it's fiction, but gosh can't the author do a quick google search before writing stuff about predators, especially since it's pretty significant to the story. <<less

I enjoyed reading this a lot, probably because I like transmigration stories and almost everything that comes with a Chinese transmigration novel: cheat or golden fingers, historical, romance, drama, politics, intrigues, etc etc. All the main characters are likeable and after reading this I do so wished I can have ferocious animals as pets. But alas that's just wishful thinking. Be prepared to eat plenty of dog food as the main couple are just so sweet and sticky to each other. A very enjoyable read despite of the fact... more>> that I have to read it through google translate or mtld version and highly recommended. ***** <<less

Nice story, problematic translation. The translation of the money system is all over the place, gold, silver, copper, and dollars are all mixed together and make no sense. Names change from pronunciation to meaning and back again from paragraph to paragraph. This needs something better than MTL with no editing or double checking.

Can't hang with this. I loved the ML and FL and their close family BUT ... more>>
Spoiler

the author let their extended family take advantage of them with very little consequences. Prime example: The fat grandmother and DIL came to the FL's house while she was out hunting to steal their food. Her pregnant mother tried to block them but she was pushed down in the process. She went into premature labor and bled to death. The grandmother pushed it onto the DIL. The only punishment the DIL got was being divorced and that was only because the FL said it's either that or she would go to prison. The grandmother didn't get any punishment and she even kept the food that they stole. Then on top of this the son even whispered to the wife that she just had to go to her parents house for a while then he would come get her. Is that supposed to be satisfying reading about the MCs being bullied over and over again without anyone getting just punishment? This author is so worried about the readers thinking the FL is cruel. I guess the author forgets that she ir writing these characters as villains that are breaking the law. Who wouldn't want the person to die that killed their mother over some food? The issue that made me drop this is the fact that the FL has been traveling for 8 hours to hunt on a remote mountain area and she has to hide this from the village so that it won't be exploited. She is finally getting them enough food to eat and making some money, but because of the death of her mother now everyone knows since they saw her buy a sheep for the baby sister's milk and a chicken in the basket on her back when she was dealing with her mother dying. (She had just come back from hunting.)

[collapse]
I can't stand reading stories that allow bullying. Everyone in that village is going to benefit now from the FL's hard work. They are all nasty greedy asses that deserve to starve to death. There is one aunt that helps them once in a while but she even turned stingy and agreed with her husband to stop feeding their baby sister even though their son can be weaned. I really can't understand when people talk about wanting a realistic story. THIS IS FICTION. If you want realism then go read a biography. I understand writing things so that they make sense but NOT writing stories that mirror real life. I'm reading these stories to escape from RL for god's sake. <<less

It was an OK novel, about four out of five star level, with a very standard number of tropes and plot: an educated and accomplished adult Chinese woman suddenly dies and now her soul is in a 10 years old body of a penniless orphan in Ancient times. She singlehandedly takes care of seven kids ages zero to 12, one of whom is her fiance (the ML), they survive many natural disasters and war (the most adventurous part of the story!) and marry four years later when she is 14... more>> and he is 16 and they are Very Wealthy, well, middle class wealthy.

Spoiler

She FL has a bit of magic on her, she can release a bit of magical spirit water from her finger, it makes food super tasty, makes plants and animals and fish grow fast, cures illnesses when added to the bowl of medicine, etc.

At that moment, 1/3 in, I dropped it. The author handled the most precious moment in that couple's life so badly, made it so full of smelly sh*t on every page, a true disaster of a wedding and morning after, I just could not continue. Awkward confession, nasty war around bethrothal gifts and the dowry, scheming and lies... Days and hours before the wedding, it suddenly became a story about the FL's strange and greedy relatives full of aggression, thieving, unhappiness, s*upidity, etc. It was just dragging, going on and on and on. What made it even worse was that the author decided to dedicate a few chapters to some lovesick girl who popped out of nowhere who suddenly decided to grab the ML for herself. WTF???

When I read about the FL's cousin wearing the FL's clothes and jewelry which the ML gifted as the bethrothal gifts, she literally broke the locks on the coffres and took them out before the wedding, to wear them on her sweaty body and greasy hair at home, I practically vomited blood and choked on it. So disgusting! She touched his pure gifts which the ML was preparing with love and care for a long time with her dirty paws. Ewww....

It was not making the story interesting. I simply did not care about all those people who were nobodies, just some villagers or city dwellers living their own lives, from the periphery of the story, never mentioned for over hundred of chapters nor playing any role in the story, suddenly being in the limelight.

I also could not understand the ML's brother, the God of War general. The kids saved his life in the mountains during war, the general recognized his long lost little brother and even sent his dark guard to protect the kids lives once and then nothing. He just disappeared, living in the capital with his wealthy noble family, leaving his homeless and penniless 12 y.o. brother and his two other orphaned cousins behind in the mountain cave and then in the village where their home was buried in an avalanche and they barely escaped. What kind of NOBLE family is that???

And then he has the nerve to come to his brother on the eve of his wedding, four years later (!!!) to destroy his marriage to the FL. In his mind, he has the ML's life all planned out and does not give a damn about his other little bro and another tiny sis that live with the ML, fully raised by the FL all these years.

Just few chapters into the novel and I'm irked by how author killed MC's father and ML's parents. I know it is just to set a premise for the suffering at beginning but still "Plague", really? I mean it happened before MC's transmigration and this was just inorder to set poor premise for MC but STILL!!!! How could MC's father who was said hunter and should have a sturdy body died of plague while weak MC, her pregnant mother, weak brother are fine. Nobody in the village... more>> had anything but MC's father died of plague and ML's both parents died of plague when ML's small brother, 2 year old sister are fine? I mean how could everybody else who are weaker than them be fine when the people who should have been the healthiest died. It even says that ML's family before their death were well off so they should have survived a plague that didn't even kill a mosquito of the village ??? Ugh author could have found other method to kill them. Even killed by a tiger in mountain would have een better than a plague, I guess. It just two months after plague and MC transmigrated and there should have been some visible effects. But it seems everything else is just fine !! <<less

It’s a good novel, a lot like slice of life. I especially liked the first 200 chapters. The romance is so cute and great throughout. Main Characters are really likable. The story is also good though light. Only cons are some plots were tied up in an unsatisfying manner, the inconsistent uses of FL gold finger and the flow of the novel. MTL is doable but not recommended.

I think the RAW stories had a promising path, just the TL version tho...

I think that up to this 10 early chapters the translator almost just directly MTL the whole chapter's. I could say this cuz mostly the chara's name used on their TL version (ie; a chara with given name Zhi Mo used as The Ink[ Mo = Ink], (shopkeeper) manager Zhou was called Zhou manager (shopkeeper), etc)..

hope the early chapter got fixed as I became more tired reading em than MTL directly from the RAW..

I super enjoyed the book, I Google translate it as the story is very interesting. It was tolerable, I mean the translation, so I finished the entire novel. Characters are very interesting, their struggles, life adventures, love for each other, especially their relationships as a family, the lovable grand fathers, the adorable pets and just simply their interactions with each other. A lot of frustrations with the MC's family but it's a good thing grand father redeemed himself. A lot of tear jearker scenes for me. Heart warming relationships, some... more>> funny antics and just simply enjoyable story. <<less

I still remember when, I was 8 years old, my auntie took a machete and rushed to her enemies house 🤣 her enemy was always gossiping about my aunties life and my auntie got fed up and took a machete.

MC transmigrated here: What a ride!

Read the mtl version but it's very easy to read. The main couple are great, supporting each other. I just like them at the beginning of story.

HE for every important characters. It's just that I feel the chapter was a bit too long, some of the chapter were only filler.

But overall this is a great novel. I enjoy the story.
