Xia Xingcheng, with average acting skills and appearance, had been a small star in the entertainment industry for six years. But one day, a famous director invited him to act in a gay movie titled “Gradual Distance” with numerous award-winning movie emperor Yang Youming. In the movie, they had a sweet love; out of it, there was polite coldness. In the movie, they had a sad ending; out of it, there were ambiguous feelings. The contrast between what was in the movie and what was outside of it often made Xia Xingcheng unable to find himself. Because of Yang Youming’s guidance, he had stepped into the ranks of actors, but also because of Yang Youming, he couldn’t distinguish between what was reality and what wasn’t.

Xia Xingcheng didn’t expect that the movie would finally push him into the abyss of pain and happiness.

This was so good, The rollercoaster of emotions is so good to that I cried. How they handle things that's problematic is done properly without losing their sh*t and making things worse but in such a way that's precise and no nonsense kinda thing.

I just want to know if they ever told the world they're married XD

I like it.

There were some negative reviews that ranted about h*mophobia. I can see what they mean but I hope it doesn't taint the experience of reading how the pair fell in love.

It's like Deep in the act with less s*x scenes. Where the movie doesn't exactly end up well but there's HE for both.

I enjoyed reading it to be honest. Just experiencing the story as they bring me along for the ride is the best feeling.

It's not too complicated.

I absolutely adore this couple!

The MC is cheerful and happy-go-lucky while the ML is mature and respectful. Their interactions are so sweet!

At times in the novel I was expecting the story to turn into a dog-blood story or end on a bad ending because of all the drama throughout the story, but thankfully the author wrote a happy ending!

Much appreciation for the translator for picking up this novel! Unlike other entertainment stories, this story's portrayal of the entertainment industry is one of the most realistic and down to earth stories... more>> I have read. <<less

This one owns the most mature and realistic plotline of all showbiz or film industry bl novels. They both have each diffulties in their on screen lives and reality but they tried hard to keep up with each other, and I think this is beauty of this novel (not like they sacriface for each other but reaching for their goals but in sync).

The MC, XXC.... become a clingy childish bf from not-to-much-care-abt-love-but-s*x after fall in love with ML, but I can feel him bcuz....I do, too, have seen similar ppl like that so.....I won't tell about any personality change on MC.

For both the protagonists' acting careers, they are very different from other showbiz novel of struggling and slapping faces, so.... they became more attractive to me even the scripts... more>> the MC working are like another very good novels themselves......

So....... why don't you try out? <<less

Really amazing and I love every single moment of this novel. I agree with some of the other reviews about the change after they become together but I don't personally think it's way too much. It gets better after that. A fanboy get together with his idol who is older than him so obviously the ML will dote on the him a lot and the MC will show his affection a lot.

What really touch me is the whole journey of them becoming lovers. That's really mesmerizing and it confuse me... more>> in a good way like I'm not sure if I should like what is going on or not. The best part about this novel is the story within the novel. There are 2 main dramas that the plot were told and I love both so much. It's very different from each other but both are amazing. The emotion and feeling in the first one makes me cry for the characters while the nerve and anxiousness in second plot will keep you awake. I really enjoy everything and even the extras so much.

Totally recommended to read <3 <<less

I started reading this without much anticipation and I'm glad I found this gem!! It is now added to my Favourites novel list. The interactions between the CP is very endearing and little gestures of love that we usually take take for granted are well portrayed by the novel author. The translator Gooseberry also did an amazing job which makes reading very enjoyable. I am looking forward to read Gooseberry's other project once it has finished with translation.

Now I am at the 30th chapter I feel it's very promising. Thank you translator-sama for your hard work.

This story is so similar to Deep in the act. Just without the psychological tag. I was glad to read that because truly that was an awesome story.

Now this story gives me the same vibe.

MC is young still learning how to act. In front of a prominent pro director & actor, he feels scared a little bit. While filming he completely let go of himself and on the verge of losing himself.... more>> His feelings are tangled up and in a mess. Making mistakes now and then. Sometimes he is playing the role of the character in real life when he is not sober. Reasonable because he is unable to stand the pressure.

ML well still I am not able to say what he is doing acting or playing. He knows MC’s psychology well helped him from time to time telling him to sober up. His character is very gentlemen and patient type. All in all not bad. But I can't pinpoint exactly his attitude towards MC. It is still early to say anything. I will write more.
With the wonderful translation, I am having a good time. Please keep updating the chapters. <<less

This one belongs to my all-time favorite entertainment novel.😍⭐ I have reread this novel lots of time, especially the ABO. I fell in love in that extra part. This novel is realistic and well-paced. MC has been admiring the ML (movie emperor) then they get paired up in a BL movie. This was the reason that MC falls harder to the ML despite knowing that ML is already married. Well, when MC discovered that ML has been divorced he started pursuing the ML. The frustration, the hesitation is so realistic.... more>> I can feel the struggles of the characters to get through everything. When they become official, ML protected the MC against the harsh entertainment circle. The ML lie-low with his career but he is the strong backer and biggest supporter of the MC. I really loved them.♥ <<less

The MC and ML are actors, shoot for a gay movie and fall in love in the process. The movie though was quite similar to a novel named Call Me By your Name and hollywood movie of the same name in case you didn't know.

ML is a very experienced and popular actor while MC is young and not so well established in the industry. I could not understand why the ML fell for the MC even though in the beginning the writer emphasised how he's an experienced actor and... more>> can always distinguish work from personal life. For a moment lets ignore this above fact then I'm sure that this is not his first time kissing and doing intimate things on screen. So he must have fallen for his other costars as well seeing how he fell for the ML this time then what's so special this time and what makes the MC so special and different from his other coactors. Don't worry u won't find any answer to these questions.

MC is a method actor. Considering gradual distance is not going to be his last romance movie thus chances are he'll keep falling for his coactors. Talk about true love.

Just saying that having passionate and wild s*x does not mean true love. There was this one time where ml's ex wife accidentally sees the MC in a disheveled state with hickeys all over his neck as if he was just having a passionate s*x with ml. Then the next day she says that ML never has been so wild with her. What I mean is wild s*x does not mean true love.

After MC and ML got together then just like other danmei, it turned very boring.

Instead I liked the movie in the novel. <<less

what a lovely novel that blurs the lines between reality and acting! I loved the characters and liked how they were mature enough to communicate and grow but in the second half I just lost interest and had to drag my feet to the finish line. However, the ending + extras honestly made up for all the stuff I didn’t love about the pacing! Woah! They were *chefs kiss*

I love that all the characters were fully fleshed out and not there simply exist to fulfill the role. Even the ‘antagonist’... more>> were not cardboard cut outs. Even if their actions were bad, you can see that they weren’t there to simply be some outrageously crazed villain but rather they were very human and believable why they would do certain things

I left out reading this novel many times before due to the 2-3 stars reviews. But then one day I came across the ost for this novel audiodrama 'starlight'. The song is so beautiful that I was driven to try this novel, to try to understand more the meaning behind the lyrics.

Listen here, other people taste doesn't necessarily the same as your taste! I nearly missing out this enchanting novel. Huhu.

This is what I felt reading this novel. At first as a reviewer says, it is annoying when then MC... more>> frequently get drunk. But fortunatley though he is drunk, it only makes MC become braver to voice out his inner thought, there's no thing such as accidental drunk s*x or anything.

When MC started to fall in love with ML, I do get frustrated how so deeply he is attached to ML, despite knowing ML is married, but I understand it also realistic to show how how difficult to control his feeling is. And then at the beginning of their established relationship I do feel a bit annoyed at how MC seems to take for granted his future career, focusing solely on ML and being lovestruck. But then it is only for a while until I see how mature and clear MC is of his own feeling and on their relationship so more than ML. I love to read his character growth. And ohho I always love proactive shou/uke.

As for the ML, actually you can see during their filming process, how the ML eventually treat MC different and special like he's slowly falling but being the older one, trying to keep his act reasonably. But after establishing their relationship he really is so doting and gentle towards MC, patient despite MC being clingy to him.

In conclusion, this novel is really sweet I love it all. Their love journey is one of the few stories than can leave a deep impression in my heart. <<less

Of the showbiz novels, I've read the romance here is one of the best. It may not be ideal, but I love how the author portrays it and how their emotional development is displayed.

They were both characters with the usual shortcomings people would have, they have their anxieties, fears, longings, and expectations and the stages they went through with these were very touching.

While not everything is perfect this story touched my heart and love it with my heart.

but I want to tell you I dont regret a bit after finishing the novel

it was a hell of emotional roller-coaster ride

the author has given a very deep description of emotions from mc's pov.... there's ml's pov too in the end

i literally cried.....i was so immersed in those emotions

i also like that its a bit quick paced... not dragging a bit

as I continued reading on I feel like MC and ML are really made for each other.... there are many intimate scenes too

and I really liked side characters too especially He zheng

he also accepted MC as his student lmao

and those who opposed MC and ml's relationship....i feel like I understand them....i get wht they're coming from.... cuz its really a taboo in the society

but in the end its happy ending and I really liked it

Rating: 4/5- Good story, solid characters and relatively realistic conflict.

I was expecting more of a wow factor, but the story is solid and well told. It's well paced and gets to the point quickly. The conflict is reasonable without excessive angst.

It's also not as long as the chapters make it out to be.

Overall I good read but there is a slight sense of the story being a bit flat.

It is rarely advertised as such but to me this BL novel was basically a story of how method acting can turn into a romance, and I found that concept incredibly interesting.

The protagonist was a deep and likable character and to me it was fascinating watching him navigate through the experience of acting as a gay man alongside the other male lead and slowly develope real romantic feelings for him. Watching them in a relationship was also very exciting based on the setting of the entertainment industry.

My one big issue... more>> with this novel was that I found the second male lead very basic. To me it felt like he was not a deep main character but a secondary character created to bring the story of the protagonist along. In romance novels this isn't an ideal situation.

Still, this was a very interesting read and ticked many of my boxes. <<less

I re-read this novel a lot of times since I finished reading it a year ago.

The plot is just like the other novels I've read before but the chemistry between the main Characters here is just so good and what I wanted the most between the two is that both of them have this resolve to be together so straight forwardly when the confrontation happened. I like you, you like me, but the whole world would never like it so f*ck it, we'll do our best to be happy together...... more>> like it or not.

At first, it looked like only MC was caught too deep in the act and the director is convinced that whatever he is feeling, it's all because of the character. Straight MC got frustrated but the more mature actor ML treat him nicely, the more he fell for him. It felt like Deep In The Act (another novel with the same plot but has more intimate and hot s*x scenes) but here, the director, Mc's manager, and ML thinks that MC only likes ML because of the movie character's feelings. ML is mature enough to separate emotions and deal with it sober so he isn't into MC (in MC's eyes).

They touch, hug, kiss, and played scenes naked on top of each other (unlike DITA that is straight up shooting p*rn without showing parts) making the straight MC react. He thinks that he is the only one enamored with ML (whom he knew was still married) and felt depressed for it (which I find more realistic).

Little did he know that ML is already divorsed for months and when the media reported it, he immediately confronts ML. I admire his balls for straight up saying he wants ML right in ML's face (and hotel bedroom) and if ML (who thought MC is only asking for comfort from him because the character he played in the movie had a bad end) didn't want him, he will ask other men to comfort him in bed.

ML was furious (and turned on for his fierce invitation) and took MC to his bed. He didn't want MC to regret it before but since MC voluntarily climed up.... ML let his kept feelings out, the two of them started dating seriously.

A few problems came and a bit of angst but it didn't take too long for them to make up because they are serious about each other. So serious that MC wants his family to know (but kept it secret because parents are taditional people) and ML is prepared to keep MC safe emotionally, mentally, and physically.

I like the fact that they don't shy away from each other and are very vocal and calm about dealing problems that comes their way (which I low key yearn for. Haha)

They got married in the end but didn't publisized it. MC's family didn't accept it at first but things took time. ML's parents are dead but he took a picture with MC in his parents house, as if to declare that MC is his new fam.

I love it!!! Ahhh! Omegaverse is well written and heartfelt. Just reding how their eyes looked each other filled with loves makes me wanna look for my other half (if that person ever exist. Lol)
