Xia Xingcheng, with average acting skills and appearance, had been a small star in the entertainment industry for six years. But one day, a famous director invited him to act in a gay movie titled “Gradual Distance” with numerous award-winning movie emperor Yang Youming. In the movie, they had a sweet love; out of it, there was polite coldness. In the movie, they had a sad ending; out of it, there were ambiguous feelings. The contrast between what was in the movie and what was outside of it often made Xia Xingcheng unable to find himself. Because of Yang Youming’s guidance, he had stepped into the ranks of actors, but also because of Yang Youming, he couldn’t distinguish between what was reality and what wasn’t.

Xia Xingcheng didn’t expect that the movie would finally push him into the abyss of pain and happiness.

I love the author’s style of narrating her story, depict the characters, polish them into flesh gradually.

MC is a man who had girlfriend in the beginning, yet they don’t love each other. He change girlfriend every few months, nothing special about his prev relationship. Scum or not, we can’t judge him, since he didn’t cheat on them either. ML already married when they filming the movies that will change their life forever.

At first this background didn’t make me comfortable, since I firmly believe in 1v1 love story. But the more... more>> I read, the more I understand why MC getting too immersed in his role. First, he’s a big fan of ML. Second, ML’s charisma is too great for him to deny. Some reviewer said they don’t understand what makes MC fall too deep. But I get it. Sometimes you attracted first, super duper attracted, and gradually fall deeper once you taste the relationship in much better than you imagine. That’s what happen with me and my partner. And the marriage will explained later on.

Even ML’s pov explained only later on the extra, yet author’s style makes it clear for me why he fall for MC. As an excellent actor who taste the failure of marriage, he knows how to differentiate which one is fake admiration, which one is pure infatuation. Who won’t be moved with those adoration spilled all over from our MC? And MC’s personality genuinely will lighten up his boring daily life later on. I love how clingy and how naughty our MC once he got his man. They’re so cute, so sweet, some of the subtle comedic tone enough to make me grin all over. No big angst either, at least I didn’t cry like when I read author’s perfection.

I honestly suggest all of you reading all author’s work, since she’s that great! And the translation is superb! <<less

I immediately bought the book after reading (great translation btw). Raw and addicting novel. I wanted something deeper to sink my teeth into, and this was exactly that. The author didn't try to pander to the readers with gimmicks or tropes- it felt genuine.

A very mature and refreshing take on life and love in show-biz. The Star Around The Sun isn't anything out of the box, but it has the right amount of, what I can only call, angst, in the beginning, emotions, and dog food in the end.

What enamored me in the novel was the wholesome love that the leads shared (which tbh is the main focus of the story). The only part I was disappointed with was how rushed the ending was. I don't know how the author could have spanned... more>> out the end, but it could have had a good 3-4 chapters for itself, considering the pace of the entire novel. I hope the extras will make it better, but I genuinely enjoyed reading the book as a whole!

The translation was amazing too! <<less

Everyone is entitled to their own interpretation of the novel.

For me, I very much enjoyed this novel. It has a very mature outlook and the writing and translation is very well done.

The ambiguity of the two actors' feelings, the anxiety, uncertainty, and confusion (real? Fake?) were expressed beautifully in the text.

... more>> Ambiguity can often backfire because it can be discomfiting and it's not the typical fluff, borderline-obsession, instant-gratification fantasy style of MC/ML constantly proclaim their undying love and romance.

It's definitely not for everyone, but this was just right for me.

I also didn't spot much h*mophobia, if any.

In fact, in a later scene, the ML states outright that he's gay because he fell in love with a man.

"X is straight except for this one exception" nothing of the sort. ML admits it outright, "I'm gay, " so I wouldn't worry too much about that. <<less

What wrong with this author another heartbreaking side story in the end of the novel why she love to make us cry T-T
The main novel is so good and I really love reading this kind of realistic stories I think their love start so suddenly I didn't catch when they start have true feeling to each other I think I have to read it again to catch some of the event but with that I really love this novel

YYM personality was so amazing and XXC so lovable the age gap is so much between them I prefer if it was less than ten years but that's ok still they are so adorable together <<less

I really love this novel, it's one of my favourites! One thing I really like is the pace of the novel and how the author takes time and care to describe the process and love of the characters. Not really good at writing reviews but I hope everyone gives this a try.

What a touching story! MC may be naive but he knows himself. We will be brought to the story from the perspective of MC only, so we don't know what other people think about MC, especially ML. At first I was anticipating the MC's actions a lot, it was stressful... I was hoping 'oh no don't do that, what would ML think if you did ?!' Yes, but at least it's fun.

The story was good at first, but when the MC realized his own feelings for ML, he started to... more>> change. I don't like him a little... like he's a little selfish and impulsive. especially when MC and ML are together, I think MC is too demanding and he thinks too much; Like when there is a girl who is an ML fan and likes him, and looks a little like ML's ex-wife, MC doesn't believe in ML at all and doubts ML's feelings. Likewise, when ML's ex-wife was looking for ML, MC overthinking, in my opinion it is not good to have that kind of prejudice. Well I understand MC's feelings...

Whereas in the beginning ML was very manipulative. The MC didn't act well at first, then ML suggested that the MC act as that character in the script. When the feelings of the MC as a character in the script were shaken, ML seemed to hypnotize him and it made the MC start acting like someone else, causing the MC to sway in reality or roles.

I always wonder what ML thinks about MC, whether he likes it or not... Even when the MC expresses his feelings I doubt a little, but luckily everything is fine. In the extra section, the story will be displayed in an ML perspective

That's pretty good, I recommend this if you like melancholy stories and plunging into acting. <<less

I didn't like the first part and the mid part.

Now, I'm not gonna lie. I thought this was fluffy vibe kinda like the 'I have amnesia don't be noisy' so I dived right into it without reading much of the review and because I really like entertainment circle based stories, however, it gave me MBFB's Easily Set Aflame (if you've read it, their relationship were questionable and everything was abrupt, the execution was also kind bland and did not give me a good feeling, which is slightly... more>> like this).

MC was nice but seemingly childish and ML's feelings were questionable. The two of them were impulsive, especially MC, disregarding the concerns of his agent and all. And ML was leading MC on, he wouldn't say if he likes him or not. Professionalism where? Lol akjdkjdka. ML also has no POV in the main story, making everything nerve-wracking. MC's actions were also nerve-wracking I keep fearing that he's going to expose himself. (Thankfully no expose or sumn)

That is why I mostly skimmed after the first arc where they settled together. I nearly dropped it at that lol.

BUT in around chapter 100 or something, I started reading it slowly. ML's feelings became clearer (thankfully), MC also started to become a bit more clear-minded, not acting impulsively and things. Things also became more interesting, and their love was very nice to read. Nice character development.

One thing I like about this is that I really like ML's ex-wife. She wasn't grudging or petty, she even treats MC nicely. This is prolly the first novel where I didn't see ex-wife in a bad light. There are not much in-relationship fights, but only outside factors that came running at them. But, fear not, they will handle it with ease.

I also particularly like the acting part because author decided to flesh it out and type their character's experience.

So while, I do like their conclusions, I did not start with a good impression, so 3.5/5 :/ <<less

I love how this novel narrated the story in the movies that the MC and ML played in, I got so immersed in it too, I felt it so deeply and anticipated all the moments. This I think is what's unique with this novel as compared to others with a similar plot that I read. Plus!! The s*xual tension between the ML and MC is just so >////<

I feel that the confession part was a bit hurried and I wasn't able to dwell on their unrequited love feelings especially the ML's but it's all good, it kinda makes sense too but I wished there were more chapters showing the ML's feelings before they got together

It's true that the MC might seem "childish" when he got together with the ML but I think that's just how it is especially since he really loves the ML so he'll unconsciously want to be spoiled by the ML and the ML does spoil him sweetly >///<. I guess what put me off a little was when they still weren't together, the MC was asking the ML about he and his wife's relationship and I felt that that was just abrupt as the novel portrayed that although there was ambiguity in them, there was also distance, so I just think that was a little surprising and abrupt moments. Oh the MC was also really "childish" I guess when they started their relationship but I think that's just because he was still very insecure. <<less

i really enjoyed this I cried of happiness of course

unfortunately/fortunately I keep back and forth from seeing this novel over and over again, I don’t dare to because there’s mybottom line that I can’t cross myself the reason being ML is in married relationship and then I think about “here it goes this title again in my library, well then let’s just read it”

and omg, it’s actually not the way it is!! I almost hate myself from keeping this good novel rotting in the library

this carefully written novel often... more>> maybe really based on reality. Its so real yo, the feeling and the meaning I sometimes feel abit bitter

the characters growth portrayed very beautifully it has flaws yes but its good enough, plot arrangements and gradual progress keeps me entertained.

whats so good about it is that is pure love, leave a sweet taste in my mouth oh how I wish I came like this story again

Interesting but has some flaws. Good translation.

Like summary says, MC and ML relationship starts with the movie characters and MC can't distinguish whatever feelings are his's or the character's. Its because he has to immersed in the role in order to perform well.

Overall, a fun and enjoyable read set in the entertainment industry with some angst in the first part.

The story is about two actors whose first movie together leads to their romance. The author does a fantastic job blending the movie scenes and real life, really showing how the emotions of the actors’ roles were affecting the actors personally. A big plus is that the movie plots were really compelling stories within the story. It’s a realistic depiction of falling in love, the blurring of acting and reality, and maintaining a... more>> secret relationship in a society where your s*xual orientation affects your ability to get work.

The only part I did not like was the method the MC employed on the ML to get together. However, there is one very fulfilling extra that makes up for this negative part. <<less

When I first looked at the reviews I wasn't interested in it but after years of skipping it I finally decided to read it. Boy was I glad I gave it a chance. I think it is a perception thing cause I really didn't view it the same way as how the other 2 star or 1 star 'raters' have portrayed it. Atleast I experienced it differently. The only thing I can say try it yourself to see if it is to your taste or not.

Excellent novel. I read so many novels bl historical, fantasy, modern, there are only few novels rarely impacted me this is the 3rd one had me write a review. A full fluff and very light read story character development of MC and especially m mk had good character setting. Thank both author and translator for such a nice work 🤗

I liked this novel very much!! Mingxing relationship very cute and they cared for each other very much. I really liked that when the filming was taking place you got to see all the emotions and how all the scenes played out. I also was really happy with the pacing of this novel, I never really felt like any part was dragging on.

Although their relationship may seem a bit unequal at times, since yang youming likes to dote on xia xingcheng a lot, I am glad that xia xingcheng is... more>> shown being protective of and trying to look after yang youming as well.

Also if you read the tags there isnt really anything surprising in the book, so I don't know why someone would read it if they felt uncomfortable with any of the tags.

Dealing with xia xingchengs obsessive love and desire for yang youming, after living the life of fang jianyuan and dealing with the heartbreak of yu haiyang leaving, its not much of a surprise that xia xingcheng becomes a bit reckless and focused on his love for yang youming. Yang youming is also pretty introverted and isnt very open when dealing with his actual feelings, which probably makes xia xingcheng a bit more reckless wanting to ensure that he can keep yym by his side. Also with him constantly wanting to leak that they are together, isn't it just because he wants people to know they’re a couple and doesn't want to have to hide his relationship like its something bad bc he's happy to be with yang youming. I’m not saying xia xingcheng doesn’t become overly reckless when pursuing his relationship with yang youming, cause it’s obvious he does, I just think that theres quite a few reasons for him acting that way. Not only that but xia xingcheng already has a pretty spontaneous personality and was used to being doted on by his family so he’s probably used to doing what he wants.

Overall, I think both the author and translator did a really good job with this novel, it was pretty realistic regarding emotions and such and it flowed really well. <<less

Finished this in two straight days. That's how much I like the story.

How they met and fell in love.

How the people around them found out.

How possessive the MC too, not just the ML who is usually protray as the possessive one.

An easy to read book.

Not too complicated plot.

Sweet like a cup of hot just-the-right sweetness drink on a winter day.

Your gender was apparent when you're born, however your own s*xual preference was determined by yourself.

I'm happy being fed with 🐕 food 😁 throughout the novel.

Great story, I was sure I would hate the MC for being such a playboy and the ML for being a ‘cold love interest’ type but the author did a great job developing the characters and plot so that by the end I was tearing up because of their love. Really enjoyed this novel. It didn’t have a lot of roller coaster up and down moments but rather a ‘bumpy road’ because of the MC and ML’s professions. Not much angst, it did leave me on the edge of my... more>> seat a few times because the novel did a good job making me think it just might not turn out alright. But it does. Very well actually. I loved Yang Youming’s POV extras and absolutely hated the ABO AU extras. I really regret reading the ABO extras, it left such an awful taste in my mouth that almost ruined the afterglow of reading the main story’s ending. <<less

The star around the sun is my first danmei novel. The concept was interesting. During the time I was reading the novel I was wondering if there feelings were real or they were just deeply in to the play. I liked the stories of movies too. ML is my favorite character so far. Fluffy story. Slowburn romance. I loved it. I kind of feel bored during chapter 122 so I stopped reading. But I have come to read it again and where's the translations?
