After ten long years under contract with the White Tower, the end was finally in sight. Lu Jing thought he could at last enjoy his well-earned retirement in peace.
Instead, his superior called him into the office for a “discussion”.
“It’s like this,” the man said pleasantly. “You’re the strongest guide in the tower when it comes to spiritual power, so we’d like to rehire you for another ten years. Double salary. What do you think? ”
Lu Jing smiled politely. “Go to hell. Not happening.”
His superior kept smiling. “A few days ago, the Tower brought back an S-Class Sentinel from a prisoner camp. He’s dying. Apparently… he’s your ex-boyfriend. Want to go see him? ”
Lu Jing: “……”
For f*k’s sake.
Four years ago, Lu Jing suffered through the agony of soul fragmentation after his Sentinel broke up with him, forcibly severed their spiritual bond, and ran off with a young blond Guide much younger than Lu Jing himself.
When they met again, the once-powerful Sentinel was curled up in the corner of a soundproof isolation room, barely clinging to life. Beside him lay his spirit animal, unable to return to his mental landscape after severe damage to his spiritual domain.
“What a waste,” the superior lamented. “An S-Class Sentinel like him could’ve been convinced to work for the White Tower. Unfortunately, we contacted every high-level guide we could find, and not a single compatibility rate exceeded fifty per cent. Looks like the only person who can save him… is you, his ex-boyfriend.”
Lu Jing’s expression remained cold. “You do realize he’s my ex-boyfriend.”
The superior grinned. “If you agree to work another ten years for the White Tower, we’ll hand this Sentinel over to you. Deal? ”
“Get lost,” Lu Jing replied flatly. “Throw him out. Whoever wants him can take him.”
