I think, this story is a tragedy in a very soft way.

For me, despite what those in the novel believe, I think the tragedy laid in Lu Yi and Ning Yue's relationship, not in Lu Yi himself.

The two had built up little understanding of each other despite the time they spent together. Or rather, they did try, but they never encroached on the other's space in their relationship. Lu Yi was incapable of it due to his natural deposition. And Ning Yue didn't due to his insecurities and the lack... more>> of courage and trust he could have had if his partner ever reached out his hand. And let me just say, it isn't that Lu Yi didn't want to reach out a hand, it is that he didn't even know that is a thing that can be done.

Spoiler

For me, as much as I felt and knew I should feel for Ning Yue, I actually felt more for Lu Yi. Why? Because he was all alone in every sense. There was absolutely no one who understood him. Not even Ning Yue when he was alive. With his partner's su*cide, the policemen condemned him, his partner's friend condemned him, and even their parents condemned him.

Imagine that.

Even your own parents didn't understand you.

Lu Yi is a cold man, but only in the sense that logic and reasoning makes sense to him, not emotions. That doesn't mean he rejects emotions. At least, not when they are emotions pertaining to Ning Yue. Lu Yi is just speaking a different language than everyone else, but still tries in his own way to learn it.

I'm not saying he's faultless. Undoubtedly, he's one half of the reason for this disaster. He was unable to give his partner the support he needs. He was unable to give Ning Yue a sense of being able to rely and confide in him, or a sense of trust in their relationship. Yes, from the very start he was incapable of it, but his failure to do these things doesn't change the fact that his partner suffered from it.

These are the things that the people in the novel condemn him for.

But I can't help but feel that Ning Yue failed too. Why didn't he understand Lu Yi? That's the biggest heartache for me. As someone who loved Lu Yi, why didn't he try to understand him? Or if he did, why didn't he try to help him? Yes, in the end the responsibility of changing himself and bettering himself lies in Lu Yi, but Ning Yue was his partner. Lu Yi's parents were his parents. Is it wrong for the people closest to him to try to help him understand his place with them, and his place in his relationship? Isn't there some small obligation to attempt to be his support system just as he will learn to be their's?

These are all my personal opinions, but it broke my heart to see Lu Yi have no one to understand him, his thoughts, and his way of thinking from start to finish.

[collapse]

In the end, I think the writing is very good, and the characters well developed. It's a good short story. Please give it a try if you have good angst tolerance, the current star reviews doesn't quite reflect the quality of the writing in my opinion. <<less

I think for better reading experience it should be read in this order

  • Chapter 1
  • Extra 2
  • Extra 1
  • Chapter 2
  • Extra 3
Lu Yi is really pitiful, overall miscommunication is the enemy of all relationships. They have different love language and the misunderstanding just build up throughout their marriage.
Spoiler

Personally, I interpret extra 1 as “someone” who tries to fix main leads fate, they will reset the setting and simulate again and again to search for the timeline that will lead to the leads happiness.

[collapse]

You can interpret this story as BE or HE depending on your liking.

the writing is subtle but effective: I cried on the first chapter.

i have to say that I'm usually just really mad at the gong in these types of novels; this one, however, is different.

Spoiler

he's an ice cube through and through, but he's not hiding his feelings for some s*upid dogblood reason. He has never acted maliciously, and has no ill intent whatsoever.

i am always raring to make a scum gong suffer, but this gong is just sad and a little precious. Even though he's a block of solid metal, he loved the shou in his own way. It's just that no one, not even the gong, realized it until the worst happened.

ends in fluff!! It's a good way to read a tragedy BL without angering yourself to death. <<less

Ning Yue oh Ning Yue... I never hate a character deeply like this in my life. So selfish. Only thought about himself.

In fact, he knows what kind of man Lu Yi is. His husband is a cold man who have problem to express his emotions. Noted : PROBLEM. Lu Yi have this kind of personality problem since he was little!!! He can't be blame for that! Ning Yue grew up together with him, how could not he understand this?

Ning Yue should try to be more proactive. Talk about all his... more>> feelings openly so Lu Yi can also show more reactions. Yet what did he do??? He never once talked about a shit!

su*cide??? Such a half-assed bastard, why didn't he bring along with him that bit*h Song Ningning??? <<less

I couldn't really sympathize with NY. I feel like his su*cide was not potray well.

Rather than feeling sad for NY, I pitied LY more. To be numerously misunderstood by his lover and even spread it around, ruining his reputation. Like dude, to accuse someone dating a student IS A HEAVY THING for a teacher. I would have sue that person and his estate if I was him.

The blame doesn't lie on a single person only. It takes two to tango. You can't clap with just one hand. Both parties are at fault. Whether it's due to insecurity or personality problem, it's up to you if you want to bridge the gap between your differences. You can't, you lose.💔

The title is a misnomer here because both protags are not cheating or tired of each other or wanting to breaking up. This is also not a simple matter of communication problems between the lovers either. LuYi is incapable of communicating, and has very low EQ and empathy. This story has more to do with incompatibility of character and mental health issues. It's not that LuYi does not love or want to communicate, it's that he does not know how or what to say. There is no need to diagnose... more>> what mental health issues exactly as psychology is not the point of the story and author does not precise either. It's true that communication is vital for couples but this is not your everyday couple.
NingYue knows his lover's problem quite well, having known him for so long, so it's not like he needs extensive dialogues to understand his hubby's character. NingYue just hit rock bottom when facing mass hostility, career low and suspected cheating from lover... coupled with low self-esteem, depression is considered normal at this point. And depression drove NingYue to su*cide. And su*cide was the shock needed for LuYi to rethink his life and introspect. And author gave LuYi another chance: LuYi either transmigrated or it was just a dream... I have no idea. Extra 1 seems to indicate entirely other forces at work but it's useless to speculate since author does not explain. Chapter 1 and 2 is LuYi's POV. Extra 1 is left to anyone's interpretation and not really important. Extra 2 is NingYue's POV and Extra 3 gives us a glimpse of their happy couple time, via an online group meeting. So it is a happy ending. <<less

Levia's notes helped my reading experience. So, thank you!

Let's just say that the og world is part 1, and extra 2 & 1 adds to the explanation. There were problems with both of them. Sensitive & Anxious & sometimes direct and sometimes not, MC, forward and 1 direction supporting cast who only adds fuel especially the girl, and the confused iceberg ML who can't display his intentions outside well.

Then ML rebirthed with 'everything feels like a dream' scenario. Then he changed. Then they got sticky, the end. Very short novel.

No,... more>> I didn't feel their 7 years as a couple. <<less

It seems like many enjoyed this novel, while I don't because I don't understand. Am I dumb or dumb? Despite some explanations by some commenters, I still find this story ridiculous. It's not that I totally don't get what's going on in the novel, but it's confusing, and even after understanding parts of it via comments, it still feels ridiculous to me. Not sure if it's a translation issue, the writer's issue, or my brain's issue. But I did not enjoy it. The extras threw me off, the best chapter... more>> was probably Chapter 1 or Chapter 1 and 2. <<less

The unconscious mistakes are the knife that cut the rope little by little. The last knife cut the remaining hope in his life like a string snap out of control. That's right, communication is need in all aspects especially emotional problems, but sometimes it's hard to talk about because of many reasons. Just like this ML (Ning Yue) he couldn't speak because the person most closest to him wasn't trust worthy nor is that person care about him enough while MC also love ML but his love was a quiet... more>> one, one that need telepathy to understand. Yeah, ML should have telepathy to read his mind or he wouldn't know it all his life with that little concern showed from MC. I would say, he's just an unconscious scum. He didn't know himself that he is a scum "*_* <<less

This short story took a while to sink in. Lu Yi, the MC gong is so clueless that it'll definitely frustrate the emotional ones. Idk how to express my feelings exactly but one thing for sure that I learned... COMMUNICATION IS EXTREMELY DAMN IMPORTANT.

Sweet and short, it's good for a cry as LY think over his life with NY and regrets.

But that's it. The back-in-time-but-confess was really short and, although the way it happened suites LY personality as he's not used to expressing himself properly especially since he wasn't expecting to see NY but there was no follow up after as the moment he wakes up in the past he's like "don't go".

There are extras but they don't have much besides a little about their future lives and then a questionnaire for the... more>> couple. <<less
