“The son of god Gula has returned.”

I was lost in the world of gambling.

I turned my back on my family and even betrayed my lover.

I wasted every day of my life.

It was a life of tr*sh.

The reality told me thus:

That I would amount to nothing no matter what I did.

In order to change my pathetic life, I chose fantasy, instead.

Even then, it was the same story.

I wondered if salvation would come at the end of the long road.

But, I was forced to kneel down in defeat in front of a powerful entity.

The tower I built up with my own hands crumbled into nothingness.

Just for once, I dearly wished to know the truth about myself.

“Come closer, my child…”

I will not hold back this time.

Pros:

- Well written and translated

- Amazing character development

... more>> - Doesn't just receive some OP cultivation/pendant/ book/ spirit/ etc. and becomes a powerhouse. The MC's development comes from his sheer determination and hardwork

- He ACTUALLY MAKES MISTAKES and learns from them. He doesn't have this s*upid and stubborn black and white personality that most MC's have. (You bully me when I was weak, I am strong now and antagonist #1, 2, 3...n underestimates me and I beat you)

- Novel is serious and dark but also has great humour and light-hearted moments.

- Personally I enjoy the light harem,

DOES NOT HAVE:

- I r*pe YOU SO YOU LOVE ME

- I FALL DOWN AND mol*st YOU AS I LAND

- etc. you know the typical harem shit, we've all read them before.

Cons:

- Serious addiction: I get depression every time I catch up to the latest chapter, and I would spend hours and hours on novel updates looking for another novel but I just don't get the same high I get when I read TSCD. No other LN will be the same, so actually I don't recommend you read this, life isn't the same anymore. I spend days killing myself in anticipation as I try to let the new chapter count accumulate so I get a better high but I eventually cave into the pressure and catch up again. Repeat. I think about this novel all the time and constantly refresh the page day to day as I try to squeeze out any satisfaction from the fact that I will have another chapter to read.

- YOU WILL LOSE MONEY: There was an arc where I subscribed all the way to gold member just because I could not handle the anticipation.

- I'm currently in withdrawal and writing a review so I can get a small high as I write this and reminisce the novel, I'm probably going to catch up to the latest chapter now and get depressed afterwards again. Thanks Seol... you ruined my life.

Conclusion:

Shut up and take my money. <<less

I have been reading novels close to everyday for the past 4 years, always finding new series to read. I have read every single novel that can be said to be popular, and many that have been not so popular. I've been following this novel since the 10th chapter was translated, and have been painstakingly waiting for updates everyday to find out what comes next. This is the only novel I have felt a need to review, and this is the only novel I have ever subscribed to to support... more>> the translation.

This novel is by far the best I have ever read, it has everything a reader could hope for. Solid character development, close to no plot holes, a storyline that is by no means cliched or predictable, great action scenes, comedy, etc. Even after re-reading the current translation 4 times I can't list any one thing that can be said to be a clear fault in the story.

The main character is someone to want to support, a relatable person with lifelike faults, interactions, goals, and emotions. The side characters are all 3 dimensional, each of them has their own unique personalities and motivations. No character is only mentioned once, they continue on in the background of the story if they aren't involved in whatever arc the story is on.

I find myself struggling to put into words how much I appreciate this novel, pardon my inability to express my love for this story. I wholeheartedly wish for you to read this novel, and if you love it as much as I do, please support the current translator for his excellent work. <<less

Up until now, this is the only novel I've read where the MC is thrown into the thick of the situations, despite his power level, and the world isn't separated into leveling zones like in most wuxia and MMO's. It's also a genuinely heartbreaking story of personal growth and human values. Wish I could read more of this, and I wish everything I read was more like this.

This novel remind me of 'Praise the orc', when MC have a strong believe, a sense of justice. The start is interesting, the story is good, translator is great. It's worth your time to read and to wait for the new chapter everyday (no, seriously, the first thing I do in the morning is looking for new chapter of this novel). 5/5 no doubt.

this novel actually inspires me to push my limits cause its like the realization of him being lucky and getting through tough situations is refreshing in a sense that its almost like the protagonist realizes that he has plot armor and wants to improve. It also realistic as in he doesn't just feel this way after waking up from a drunken stupor and suddenly become a person of character but through time hes changing and the effort that hes facing and mentality to keep pushing yourself helps me want to... more>> also be better as a person and to not stop putting in effort. <<less

FINALLY, a novel that seems to be written by an actual author. It contains character development, logical reasoning, and human-like side characters like what any adequate story should have. It's definitely one of the best quality novels in NU, so even if you don't like these second chance fantasy novels, I recommend giving it a go.

Well, here we are again, another Isekai, but wait! Something is different, the reviews look abnormally high, the summary seems intriguing hell, I'll give it a shot.

So I did, and I glimpsed an idea that filled my chest up with warmth and got me really anticipating the rest of the novel. The opening begins on a world previously ruled by humans and their one god, but now is a galactic battle ground between many outside factions. The humans, barely alive are given a second chance by the arrival of seven... more>> dormant gods who take the place of the old dead deity and by a large amount of human reinforcements summoned from earth.

Unfortunately the humans from earth didn't participate (shocker) in the "final" battle that decided the fate of the remaining humans. But the gods then allow one earthling to send back his feelings, not emotions, back in time to hopefully prevent this catastrophe.

Pretty crazy opening, but the facade of possibility presented in the opening slowly starts to break down the further this novel continues on. From here on out, it's spoiler territory, be warned.

Spoiler

So we cut to our protagonist from the past, who is shown to have the ability to essentially danger sense, however he abuses this power (losing the power in the process) gambling and it eventually costs him not only his money but all his relationships in his downward spiral. And after what appears to be his weakest moment the "feelings" come to him in the form of a dream.

Now I'm gonna say it here, call a little BS on this one, these "feelings" are honestly just the MC's memories from the future but are really hazy unless the plot calls for it, I guess they didn't want it to be like other LNs? I don't know why the author decided to do this to begin with, but whatever. It's fine, not even that bad honestly. (Also he gets his power back too) It's what happens afterwards that finally turned my anticipation into dread.

So he gets the memories and then gets scouted out by what is essentially a recruiter for a company-army hybrid from the other world. Using his memories he doesn't become a s*ave but instead gets invited in. hooray.

Also due to the memories he goes from a raging alcoholic to a mostly normal man again.

Anyways when he crosses over to the other world it's revealed that this is but a surprise tutorial level. The invited folk get some advantages that hint that this is a world with video game levels and stats, which is when the warm feeling started fading in me. Then it's revealed that the tutorial level is a killer one! Ahhh!

At the end of the tutorial arc I was left with a few questions, namely why is there a tutorial? The people spectating the tutorial even remark that these are just a bunch of unfit civilians. Of course they are? What country's enlistment program begins with let's kill 80% of the people we just conscripted? Aren't they in a desperate need of manpower? Normally you'd train them or at the very least send them out untrained, at least they might soak up some damage.

Whatever, at least now that that's outta the way we get to go to the cool alien warzone!

nope. Naw. I mean technically yes, they are now on that world, but are contained within what is essentially tutorial 2.0

This arc is even longer than the last one, and involves... training the recruits that managed to survive, and I'd like to point out that a good amount of them survived due to luck rather than fighting or leadership skills. Oh but, instead of training them they just leave them to figure it out for themselves, they just leave the equipment. Why? Don't they want good soldiers? Not to mention all this freedom doesn't lead to good discipline, there's not even a chain of command built up...

Whatever they have to figure it out, the MC gets help because he shows promise. Oh and yes, this is a level based stat based video game world, which I wasn't to thrilled about, but again, could deal with. This arc goes through a good amount of training, and then the MC remembers that other people exist after his recruiter lady reminds him, and he turns their lives from miserable to great with the power of money. Then what I can only describe as pretty generic par for the course OP MC anime filler happens and the arc finally comes to a close.

And we finally get to the other world. And then everyone signs a contract, which is again, kinda odd why do they NEED to sign anything, the MC speculates it's for protection in this hostile world, which makes sense, but then he tries to sign a contract that lets him do whatever he wants. Why does he need a contract to do whatever he wants? I-dunno. And then he gets to go home...

So here we are at his home, oh boy. Great I don't even know or care or will ever care about any of the filler characters on earth, cause they don't matter, but I suppose the MC does. This does raise some more questions I'll ask at the end. And halfway through this rather uninteresting arc I stopped reading. Maybe someday he'll make it to the New Paradise, maybe the world will be really cool and the aliens weird and exciting, but I've lost hope, I think what I envisioned from the start was something this novel didn't set out to achieve, it's not for me.

So let's start talking about other things. The overall plot leaves me confused. Why do the gods or inhabitants of this other world expecting the earthlings they lied and tricked and sometimes ens*aved to risk their lives for the world most of them were stolen from? I assume the s*aves aren't allowed to go home to earth or they'd run back to their families they were snatched from. The tutorial is useless. it literally just kills recruits, the training ground was inefficiently run, and the contracts afterwards seemed like a waste as well. Being from Korea the author (most likely) has served in a military before, so I don't understand were all this is coming from. W h y?

Regardless of the overarching plot there's the MC, he's kinda clever and observant, but isn't very interesting, being strong or smart doesn't translate to entertainment, I mean look at Don Quixote. The most interesting thing about him are his flip-floppy morals, which I guess are a mix of his memory's and his rotten addict self's. I think? Make up your mind dude. When he got to tutorial 2.0 he said goodbye to the friends he made there and focused on training, I was wondering what was going to happen to his old friends, but he just forgets about them. Eventually he gets told to look out for one of them and he finds them all in dire straits, especially the one who lost an arm during the tutorial. Now he cares so much for them, the care is oozing he'll do anything to get the lost arm girl her arm back and help the others out. To be fair this part isn't that bad, to be fair he didn't know about their situation, though it is odd he checked in with some of his other friends but not the 3 that were doing poorly. He's just a boring character honestly, I can't think of one memorable line he has, it's like he has no real presence and is more of an observer.

[collapse]

Yet regardless of the roast above I gave this novel 3 stars. Why? Because of a couple reasons.

One, The translation team (and possibly the original author as well) did a fantastic job, it's probably one of the best translations I have ever read hands down, it felt like they cracked out the thesaurus for this one. honestly great job I hope you guys do great in the future.

Two, Some of the smaller scenes are handled really well, my personal favorite was
Spoiler

during the worthless tutorial when the beat down weaker folk team up against the tyrant, good stuff.

[collapse]
little moments that kept me hoping were sprinkled in here and there, and they are honestly pretty good.

And three, I recognize that most of my loathing for this novel comes from the fact it defied my expectations, it went the generic isekai route. I came in expecting something different, but that's what I got. Don't get me wrong, it's one of the better isekai-esk novels out there, but I wanted something more. And The Second Coming of Gluttony didn't want to give me... more. <<less

This a web novel is something new.

MC is not that great at start he is a bastard. But the feelings to change yourself, to live again, to learn from your past mistakes and became a person that no one can make lite of. And never satisfy by your current self.

This novel is a great novel to read.

I really love this novel! It is quite different from your second chance novels. Instead of the MC getting all his memories he only get his emotion from his past self which gave alot of new plot to add and you can tell the author put alot of emotion and struggles the MC is facing. The pacing is perfect its not to slow or to fast. This is a Hidden gem that I really recommend you guys reading.

The first 3 chapters were a hurdle difficult to pass, but this is such a well-written novel. Not just your typical regression/isekai novel. The characters have great personalities, not your usual 2D bully and damsel in distress side characters.

If only the author would edit the first few chapters and reduce those side character's POVs, then the readers would definitely blow up.

This has quickly turned into my favorite novel. The combat is bloody and harsh, and the writing is done in a way that truly immerses the reader in the atmosphere of the word. The characters are good, but outside of the beginning chapters there hasn't been much development, I'd like to see that change. There are still 400+ chapters to translate though so there is a lot of time for that to happen, so I'm not too worried about it.

The only bad thing about this story is how a 26... more>> year old man keeps getting referred to as a youth. He's. 26. He's. Not. A. Youth. Even in the context of an 18 year old looking the main character, something like "She looked at the youth" would be written. It just makes literally no sense. <<less

For me, this novel is one of the best ! The translation is really good too. I have read quite a lot of novels, and I usually cannot feel the emotion between characters. The stories are also usually generic, with generic villains also. However, second coming of avarice has a well thought plot, and I really like the characters because I can differentiate the characters and the conversation feels genuine. Good work !!

One thing I really like about this book is the speech is really authentic and believable. It's like you can feel the emotions - particularly when he's on earth. I can't wait till the translators finish this book.

I can tell the author is REALLY addicted to smoking though. Practically everyone smokes for no apparent reason, and it's brought up way too often.

The only way to tell if you like this novel or not is to try it out, especially since that synopsis is very unclear. For me personally, the beginning few chapters were iffy (the prologue itself was a bit problematic, because I couldn't tell who was who/what was going on), but a few chapters later, the novel picked up and I began to thoroughly enjoy it.

I especially enjoyed the main character's development. In the beginning, he wasn't a good person, and imo he still isn't that great of a person,... more>> but he's gotten better. Throughout this development, we can also see his inner thoughts/emotions, and understand how he feels. I really appreciated that part. He also has a pretty cool/unique ability
Spoiler

called nine eyes that basically tells him when there's danger/opportunities

. He's on the path to becoming very powerful though.

I'm not really someone who cares much about side characters, but many of the side characters have distinct personalities that allow you to tell them apart easily (in case you can't remember their names). Unfortunately, there seems to be an expiry date for each group of side characters -
Spoiler

for example, the ones from the tutorial are more or less discarded once the MC enters paradise (they could appear later idk), but the MC then gets a new batch of side characters.

Overall, I give this a 4.5/5 stars. I don't know what it was about this novel, but I very much enjoyed it and wished there were more chapters that I could read. <<less

The tutorial part was the best part. Once he entered "paradise" (why they would call it that, and why anyone would want to go there, is beyond me), my level of interested decreased exponentially. And his cheat of "regaining his memories" wasn't actually that helpful. He does change some things in the beginning but it soon becomes irrelevant.

Being somebody who read way too many webnovels and feeling heavily burned out by repetitive plots lacking meaningful substance, this is actually a pretty well-written, well-paced good read.

Action parts are ok, not too special but acceptable and readable.

Emotional parts are a little kDrama but not too overblown.

Plot line is well-paced and well-written with ample focus on characters or events that need to be focused on.

Overall I'd give it 4/5 but since the novel feels like a droplet of water in a desert of shitty webnovels I gave it 5/5 instead.

Edit: 5/5 -> 3/5 c310

Somewhat slow pace around chapters 25~40 but I am happy that I had enough chapters to binge read past them. I don't mind proper strength building etc. But only if I can binge! If I have only one chapter every now and then then it's not the most interesting thing. Anyway things are starting to look pretty interesting from here on and at this moment 5/5 does not feel too much. Of course depending on the development I might lower it.

The MC is a bit... more>> weak willed character occasionally but the reason to that is explained properly and is understandable. The author manages to build up his character pretty well all in all.

My personal preference for romance is that I would wish for somewhat clear signs early on for what to expect. But it does have a harem tag so I guess I can't complain for not having very clear main heroine and that is probably the only downside so far.

The tags tell about the story pretty well in this case. There is gore and past is playing a big role etc. Try reading it if you think you can enjoy some slower progressing parts for the sake of character & plot development. It feels like it might be a different novel now than in the beginning but I can't wait to see what happens next I feel we are finally getting out of the "training" and get to see the story start progressing in more of a "main arc" direction

All in all well built story so far. <<less

This novel is great. If you ever want to see a humanized MC without being a s*upid dumbass then you would read this story. Koreans are great at having flaws in drama while Chinese MC are flawless. And when I mean I mean personal flaw.

Too bad the translation was stopped on such a quality novel.

I registered only to write this review. It's totally undeserved that this novel had low popularity and thus was dropped. From my point of view this novel stands on the same level as Novel's Extra. And I wonder why 1/5 novel like tr*sh of the count family gets daily updates with its s*upid characters, MC included and this novel gets dropped.

One of the better novels out there, MC is not super smart, he makes mistakes and I think that makes him more relatable. Story is super interesting and the side characters have depth too and aren't just robots or baggage. Shame the translator stopped, hope someone picks up this gem of a novel
