“Can’t I properly read stallion novels anymore!”

Shen Yuan transmigrated into someone who’d tormented the young male lead almost to death, the scum villain Shen Qingqiu.

It must be known, the original Shen Qingqiu ended up being carved alive by his disciple, Luo Binghe, into a human stick, a human stick!

Ten thousand “f*ck your moms” rampaged through Shen Qingqiu’s heart:

“It’s not that I don’t want to cling to the male lead’s thighs, but who made him so f*cking black. The type who seeks thousand-fold retribution!”

Why have all the female lead’s scenes been forcibly given to him.

Why, as a scum villain, does he need to constantly sacrifice himself, blocking knife and gun for the protagonist!

Shen Qingqiu: “…I think I can still save him, one more time.”

The book doesn't take itself seriously so yes, it's pretty funny but ONLY in the earlier parts. I was pleasantly surprised by how cute MC and ML's student-teacher dynamic is.

Im gonna have to drop this. Mainly because I honest to the stars hate how women are portrayed here.

You could make the case that is because of the original authors view on women. But honestly this story just continues with the same f*cking trend.

Women are one dimensional and just want one thing. And while the MC makes fun of that he preferred reading about the different monsters that showed up in the book the story still lacks some sense of human connection throughout the story.

Also another reason why I dropped... more>> was because...

Spoiler

MC knows that someone is gonna betray and attack during an important event. Where young children are competing to beat monsters.

I cant stand people like this. Sure he maybe couldn't have said anything because then the story would not go the way it was planned. But MC could have done something or prepared something. Instead he calmly sat there while knowing people were soon gonna die horrible and he could have in some ways stopped or prevent it. No I don't like this kind of person.

[collapse]

So yeah my main problem is the MC and the way this story depict women. <<less

Look shizun is everything. I mean so many people having off opinions about this, I feel sorry for them! This is mxtx's first book and if y'all are expecting like mdzs or tgcf level plot, it's not for you. That being said, this is my favorite bl. Bing-mei is just so adorable and every character has this side of cuteness. I can't 😭 I don't wanna be like, oh you have to read this book because of so and so or whatever, just know that you're genuinely missing out on... more>> something good. <<less

This novel of MXTX is different from her other works like TGCF and MDZS since this is the very first novel that she wrote.
    • Unlike the other currently two works, the story structure isn't as solid and the storyline isn't as complicated. Scum Villain doesn't have the interval of present, then backstory, and then returning to the present like the two but instead started out when Luo Binge (the ml) was still under the tutelage of Shen Qingqiu (the mc) but unlike other transmigration novels, the character he transmigrated to already abused the ML thus he can't start out clean and can only change.
    • The plot isn't complicated and very straightforward. It will give you and sense of already knowing what is going to happen next but that makes you look forward to reading it more.
    • Its not the best bl novel our there but this is definitely fun, enjoyable, and worth reading.
Spoiler

I wish there's a continuation of the extra chapter wherein they confronted the original Luo Binge from the parallel world (the blackened one) . I can't get enough of it!

Honestly, not a fan of this novel. I'd say it's this author's weakest work, but since it's her first, that makes sense.

The MC isn't what I dislike. He's funny and relatable, and his interactions with the System are absolutely hilarious. The way he's always cool and collected on the outside yet screaming and cursing on the inside is really funny. Also he's somehow smart yet dense in regards to the ML's feelings. I think he's a pretty great character.

The story line? It's also not bad. ... more>>
Spoiler

I like that the MC's actions are changing the story and even the actual genre of the novel hahaha.

[collapse]
There's a lot of characters but the ones that are relevant are developed sufficiently and they don't just appear once then disappear. Some of them are recurring characters, which really ties it together pretty nicely.

Now, why don't I like this novel despite liking the MC and the general story line? It's simple: the ML (and the romantic plot line that's attached to him).

Young ML is okay. He's a pure, cute child who's always calling out for his "shizun". His innocence felt a bit played up but that's to be expected because the story was still following the original novel at that time, and besides, the entire story is a bit satirical anyways.

Older ML is... just not it. He's domineering and sticky to the MC in the worst way possible. He's still cute in the same way as young ML but somehow it all takes on a very bad flavor. He seems to confuse hurting the person he likes for showing his feelings for them, in the same way that a 5th grader would tease the person they like because they don't know how to deal with their feelings.

The relationship between the MC and ML is even more disastrous. It feels like the MC is not even in love with the ML, and he's just trying to appease him because he's afraid of the ML crying or killing him. The ML does a lot of questionable actions
Spoiler

including the f*cking corpse body pillow

[collapse]
. It reeks of dubious consent and just doing whatever he wants in the name of "being in love with Shizun". And the MC lets him do all of this without complaint (or at least serious complaint). Truly, it doesn't feel like an equal romantic relationship, but rather more like a spoiled child and their concerned yet powerless caregiver.

Overall, it's a 2/5. 2 stars for the stuff I liked, but I honestly couldn't deal with the ML and the romance aspects, which were poorly done. I know it's satirical but that doesn't justify making it seem like a cute relationship. <<less

Romance was barely perceptible to the story by the protagonist SQQ
I could feel it from Luo Binghe but not HALF OF IT from SQQ, also I did not understand exactly when, how, and the reason that made Luo Binghe fall in love and become obsessed with SQQ.......

I had higher expectations than that, because of the author's previous novels, although I really tried not to raise it too high, but there was a small corner in my mind that thought it would be better than this.

Out of all of the books I’ve read from this author, SVSSS is my favourite.

The character are all written well, and the comedic underlining is something that surprised me (a pleasant surprise that it).

The only issue I had was the r*pe scene- but that seems like a recurring theme for this author :/

Read this ages ago and apparently I never gave it a review. MXTX's first novel and it's a wonderful debut. New readers might not get it, but this novel came out when writers were churning out shitty transmigration/isekai novels left and right.

So when you have shitty transmigration novels, you naturally have fujos writing transmigration satires where the MC bends the protag, and this was also one of many that came out then. MXTX just had a different take by having her MCs be a lot more realistic and not instantly... more>> adjust to their new world, as well as a wonderful cast of characters.

Shen Yuan was a pretty hilarious down-to-earth take of a regular modern guy internally freaking out at everything that's happening. He doesn't unlock OP cheats, he doesn't become a helpless blushing bride for the ML, and he retains his personality throughout the whole novel (unlike so many others...).

And of course, what makes MXTX stand out as an author is her ability to develop a memorable and realistic side characters who all have their own struggles and triumphs. So many other books only focus on the main couple and have a bunch of disposable background characters that waltz in and out, barely affecting the plot. Instead SV has well developed characters who could easily star in their own spinoffs and extras. And I love how she delved into the original "Scum villain" of Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan and gave them their own backstory.

Again, she pokes at how so many other books just have boring one dimensional cannon fodder villains that only exist to be the evil baddies.

Overall a very well written novel with an organized plot and interesting characters. <<less

Out of the three mxtx novels, svsss is the one I enjoyed the most. When I first read it I was just s**ked right in and I just couldn't stop reading! I'm definitely not a fast reader but I still finished this in three days lol. Definitely the funniest piece of mxtx novels. I also really liked the pacing of this novel. I don't think many scenes dragged on too much and I don't think I was ever bored reading it.

I see a lot of hate on this novel but... more>> tbh just don't read if

    • you don't like student x teacher relationship.
    • you're not into yandere or crybaby gong (seme).
Also, don't read this expecting super romantic love story, because it's not.

Things I liked:

    • MC: sqq (or sy) 's narrative was just so hilarious and relatable. His narrative made this otherwise angsty story light-hearted and enjoyable. I liked him as the MC more than wwx or xl.
    • ML: give luo binghe love! He's the most flawed gong and I LOVE him for it! He really is the best boy and idk if I like him or lwj better.
    • Side characters: liu qingge! yue qingyuan! sha qinghua! mobei jun! ning ying ying! (sj!) and more...
    • Humor: did I mention this book is so fcking funny??
    • Pacing: the story is nicely paced it's like riding a roller coaster.
    • Extras! You must read the extras!! It gives you a whole another insight to the main story and will make you want to reread the novel again!!
Things I didnt' like:

    • It's too short!
I read faelicy's translation as much as what was available and switched to BC novels for the rest of the novel. I recommend reading faelicy's analysis on her twitter as well! It definitely helps you understand the novel better!

Lastly, I really wished people give more love to svsss. People argue that svsss is the most underdeveloped piece of mxtx, which is valid ig, but I also think it's the most interesting piece because there's more room for interpretations. Like svsss is the only danmei novel I keep rereading.

Definitely give it a shot!! <<less

I love the other two books by this author. This one was terrible. I kept trying to get myself to finish it even though I was nauseated by how obnoxious everyone and everyone's interactions were, partially because there's a lot of fanart for this (along with MDZS and HOB). After getting 2/3 of the way and realizing I was constantly cranky because of this book I finally put it down. Totally not worth reading. Definitely read MDZS and HOB though!! That being said, there were some cute parts in this... more>> book and some clever parts too!

update: I just read The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have to Be in True Love and they're very similar styles. (Both have a reader transmigrated into the story, the story is a classic stallion novel with lots of tropes like harems, etc, the MC of the story has a lot of "blackening") Although the title is worse, I think the story is better executed, the characters are more likable and reasonable and the change in character/romance makes a lot more sense. (Scum villain's self saving system feels really jerky, meaning the beginning was fun but then it suddenly derails and it feels extremely forced/I feel like I'm being dragged through mud)

just wanted to add the update since I like it when I know which books are similar so I know either what to read next or what to read instead etc (: <<less

[Read in Chinese text via TTS]

The story focuses on how the MC (Shen Yuan) got himself transmigrated into a book he was complaining about for the lousy plot writing. To his chagrin, not only did he transmigrated into that very novel, but he is transplanted into the body of the cannon fodder villain, Shen Qingqiu. A super rotten evil character that is destined to die a horrible death being tortured and turned into a freak of nature by the protagonist of said novel. So off goes Shen Yuan's adventure of... more>> getting into the good book of Luo Binghe, the novel's protagonist before that horrid end in the book could happen to him. Things are definitely not as simple as thought as Shen Yuan had to work around a preset system dished out by the book's AI automated program. That program is relentless and unforgiving to any mistakes. It was the cause of countless mishaps and pain to Shen Yuan even to those close to him as he bends himself to cater to it.

Overall, it was a pretty entertaining and fun novel. I was not bored at all. The MC created lots of comedic moments as he struggles to navigate around known bad-ending plot triggers he had read about. He was to overcome these landmines to rewrite the story to save himself and those he cares about.

If you are expecting lots of romancing or smut, this book is not it. The MC is too busy running from his love interest, Luo Binghe to have any chance of developing any lovey-dovey affection. He is unduly afraid and wary of the Luo Binghe since his supposed tragic end was by that man's hand. Too bad, due to the same reason, s*x is minimal as well. I could say that the MC and his love interest are overly busy with thousands of conflicts between them due to the MC's unwise assumptions and decisions.

I finished the whole series without extras. I apprecitate faelicy's translations, its very readable, and IMO better than BC novels (no offense).

Honestly, the series hooked me uptil the midpoint, which I you all know what I'm talking about if you've read it. I just lost interest after that, and I honestly don't get the romance between the MC and the ML. It is unhealthy and strange, and yes in the end its supposed to make sense, but to me it doesn't. I just lost interest. I'm not going to read... more>> the extras. Sorry, this wasn't for me. <<less

This novel was low key gruelling to read. Sure, SQQ’s inner monologues CAN be funny at times, but then they’re just.. Delusional. I feel like 95% of the novel was SQQ convincing himself that everything isn’t real which leads to him being inconsiderate of everyone else’s feelings. I get that he just wants to make sure he doesn’t die, but he’s just plain cruel when you look at everything in a 3rd person’s perspective.

Spoiler

Being betrayed by someone who treated you kindly before is 100% worse than being betrayed by someone you already loathed, imo. Poor Binghe, no wonder he ended up more psychologically messed up than OG Luo Binghe. But then again, he was delusional as f*ck, too. Miscommunication is a real one in this book. Literally everything could’ve been avoided if SY decided to you know, talk to Binghe? Their “romance” (if you can even call it that) is honestly so f*cked up. It’s more like total dependency in a way where Binghe will literally die if SQQ isn’t by his side, and/or with him.

[collapse]

So much potential, yet the story line was mediocre at best. I didn’t cry, didn’t really resonate with SQQ, but I did almost drop the novel out of pure irritation because of SQQ. No one is a good person. SQQ might just be the cruelest even though he’s supposed to try and not be the villain. <<less

As far as transmigration stories go, this one isn't bad at all. It's also properly tied up and ended without rambling on too much, which is an achievement in itself. If you've come after reading the author's other works, I recommend you to forget them and not compare these. This work has plenty of entertainment value and is spectacular in its own way, but it's certainly not as ambitiously clever as her other two masterpieces.

Characters: 5/5

I love MC and puppy-ML. Blackened-ML was okay, especially when he becomes a little white... more>> lamb in front of MC. MC is pretty funny, especially in his inner monologues and interactions with the system. I love the familial aspects of the story and the side characters, especially Liu Qingge!!! LQQxSQQ fanfic PLEASE! Sect Head and QQ were also very fun characters. Full points for side characters, for sure. I'm so mad for ZZL, that side story broke my heart.

I will say though, the reason I can score this so highly is I'm a fan of some melodrama & angst, haha. MC & ML go through no small amount of dogblood, seriously. Also, it's not exactly "misunderstandings" that are driving the story; I hate when that happens, but this one is more just about insecurities that needed no small amount of coaxing.

Also, I'm really sad this is tagged adult and yaoi. There's literally ONE SCENE at the VERY END that had papapa, and honestly you could easily skip it. It's a pity because I think if it were just shounen ai there'd be more readers, plus it's not worth reading for those looking for xxx.
Spoiler

I'm also really mad at the scene. Yes, I know both parties were "willing", but I was really hoping their first papapa would be full of sweetness and fluff! That scene felt more like it was the circumstances that required it... also reading the extras it seems ML's pretty bad at it???? how can he be, doesn't he have the skills to be a crazy harem master??

[collapse]

Plot: 4/5

You know, the story is pretty interesting and the entire way it mocks classless stories, which I like, but at the end of the day it's the transmigration troupe. Don't get me wrong, I love this troupe to death tbh, but I enjoyed the beginning a lot and it felt like things went off the rails later on kinda. MC had to be the princess requiring rescue too many times. He also softened to ML way too quickly; it felt like a dream later, after pitying the ML, all of a sudden he's soft. It feels more like pity than love. That said, plot and worldbuilding was pretty solid, and not just focused on the romance, but I'll say right now this story can hardly be classified as a cultivation novel.

Writing / Translation: 5/5

No problems, thanks for the hard work! <<less

This is my absolute favorite novel out of all of Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's works. To start off, I am absolutely in love with the system genre, so that's extra points for me. Not only that, but our MC's personality really appeals to me. Even though it's got the lowest rating out of all three of her stories, I am still absolutely obsessed with it regardless of what others say.

I love it when a supposed [Scum Villain]'s true face (funny and adorable) gets revealed and slowly uncovered by the gong.... more>> Even though there is quite a bit of melodramatic romance in here, in the end, everything ends up just fine, so that's okay.

Yes, LBH and SQQ were somewhat like a bickering couple, loving, hurting, then lowing each other again, but that was only because there were so many misunderstandings between them that were left unsolved until the very end. As long as everyone's happy at the end, everything's fine for me.

LBH is one of the absolute most possessive yet meng gongs I've ever read about. Personality wise, I'd say SQQ has more of the mature gong personality, but I love it when he gets shy, which also makes him the perfect shou.

Another unique aspect that I adore is the transmigration genre, something that's not found in the other two books, and it really helps me see SQQ in a different light. If the original got reborn or something, the story just wouldn't be... right, you know?

Overall, this is definitely has a slot in my top 5 favorite BL novels! Looking forward to sensei's next work! <<less

Definitely one of the best, and has the most interesting characters I've read in a danmei.

I actually prefer this over GDC. I think the thing that makes this story so unique is that, if it were told in anyone but Shen Yuan's pov, it would be a tragic story that can rival the angst in GDC. But the thing is, it's not, and we get to see the story unfold through an unreliable transmigrated narrator who, ironically enough, is the most ignorant of most of the real trauma and deep... more>> seated suffering of the characters around him, because none of it was present inn the novel he read. And it makes him such a human and grounded existence in the story, balancing the complexity of the plot with his own view of the story.

Some people may not like this and see Shen Yuan/Shen Qingqiu as useless and nothing special, but I think it's actually what makes it so complex and wonderful to read. His ignorance of the complete story is what makes him so human in this story and not some all knowing sherlock who saves the day. He can't save everyone, not even himself, and he has to actually work with the characters around him in order to achieve things, he isn't as powerful as the other characters, and lacks the golden finger of most transmigrated characters in other transmigration fics, and it just makes him much more immersed in the story. He doesn't act like a god, and the divergence of the plot are results of the fluttering of a butterfly's wings.

He feels helpless, unable to go against the system, but the thing is, he changes the story through the little things, and it makes all the difference.

There is so much subplots happening in the background, and frankly, I think the subtlety of it is PERFECT for the overall tone of the story. It doesn't drown itself over angst and conflict, and walks the line between hurt and healing. The back story of the original SQQ and the story of the protagonist's parents are also wonderfully made.

As for Lou Binghe, he does, at surface seem like your typical danmei gong, but a deeper reading of him actually makes him so complex. His character is so driven of devotion and guilt, and has the power to destroy everything in his way, but not the character for it. Despite becoming a demon lord at the end, the core of his character is very much still that of a child with abandonment issues, who was raised by a washerwoman, and shows his love through domesticated actions done commonly by servants. He isn't perfect, and is definitely flawed, but his motivations as a character is complex enough that you can sympathize with him.

He doesn't do the things he does for power, but out of a misguided devotion. We see him as a character who is still learning. Most importantly, the pair have personalities that develop outside of each other. They don't solely form themselves for the other, but are shaped by their own experiences and history. <<less

This novel is probably my fave out of MXTX's 3 novels right now.

SQQ and LBH are both flawed and have made mistakes that unintentionally hurt each other, so when they finally properly communicated at the end and as seen in the extras I'm just... wow *chef's kiss*

BingQiu is so soft hhh I love them. I also really love the side characters, especially when they were given more depth in comparison to the og novel.

This is quite a likeable story for me. Its one of the first danmei I liked. The 2 main characters are quite fun and there is so much humour with Shen Qingqiu around. The sad parts were actually sad too. I wish it was more immersive but I think that is just because it had been translated and I wasn't reading the original Chinese. And that the worldbuilding wasn't as big or deep as I wanted it to be but it's forgivable. However, the writing flowed quite well, I... more>> understood everything on the first try without having to pause and think haha. I do not like how the ML LBH bulldozes the MC for sexy times whenever something like it happens but I kinda accepted this is just par for the course in danmei and basically skimmed all of that. However, I still like and believe in their romance, even made me have lots of angst haha But still, I like it. And as a gift that keeps on giving, there are tons of wonderful long in character fanfiction on ao3 from this story!

Loved it! Added it to my favorites list with GDC (same author), QWFOD, and others. I've been reading this for a long time and it's a short but cute and sometimes intense BL story with the elements of transmigration and cultivation. The interactions between Binghe, and our MC, Shen Qingqiu, are cute with our ML being the sticky baby he is around SQQ and SQQ always trying to keep a cool appearance despite screaming inside. (However there are dark parts to the story and ML is no dumpling he's actually... more>> very vicious) Although these interactions (and the steamy ones too >.>) are wonderful to read, the author also tries to build a plot (rather than putting intimate scenes everywhere) and also develops some of the side characters. The ending was a little bit more rushed and ended more abruptly than I expected, but it is a HE. The extras afterwards though are nice to read as well ^_^ <<less
