“Can’t I properly read stallion novels anymore!”

Shen Yuan transmigrated into someone who’d tormented the young male lead almost to death, the scum villain Shen Qingqiu.

It must be known, the original Shen Qingqiu ended up being carved alive by his disciple, Luo Binghe, into a human stick, a human stick!

Ten thousand “f*ck your moms” rampaged through Shen Qingqiu’s heart:

“It’s not that I don’t want to cling to the male lead’s thighs, but who made him so f*cking black. The type who seeks thousand-fold retribution!”

Why have all the female lead’s scenes been forcibly given to him.

Why, as a scum villain, does he need to constantly sacrifice himself, blocking knife and gun for the protagonist!

Shen Qingqiu: “…I think I can still save him, one more time.”

"This is the story of a master and disciple’s everyday unknowing, very strange, dog-blood process of falling in love."

A very apt description of my entire thought while reading this book. I also don't know when unknowingly (or how) the ML falls in love with MC. I am now weighing between continuing reading this novel or giving it out. (I just can't imagine by treating someone kindly could result in love; how could the ML falls in love with MC so fast?) I just don't understand the bL in this.

DNF... more>> for now.

Seriously, I only continue for so long for MC's inner thoughts. The MC antics made me LOL at lot. The MC is by far the most humorous one with his inner thoughts, focusing on how to avoid the pre-destined death as foretold in the original stallion novel (where most the humour arise), how to live comfortably; never realising the butterfly effect of him changing the story by 1) treating the ML kindly, and 2) behaving OOC.

Undeniably, this is a funny story. You could feel the author's way of writing (it is quite similar to her other book) if you read her other book, the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (mo dao zhu shi). I love GDC, with the similar dense MC. I highly recommend reading GDC if you like darker with more mystery kind of premise.

I highly recommend anyone who likes this to read Transmigrating into a Mob Character to Rehabilitate the Villain Plan (VRP). The BL in VRP made more sense to me, with a similar storyline as scum's self saving system. <<less

This was MXTX first work, and this review is of seven seas danmei translation.

I think compared to other authors work, this one has a bit of a amateur feeling. The characters don't have the same depth, it feels a bit rushed, cliché etc...

Spoiler

also the smut scene where Luo Binghe just does him dry I cringed so hard because damn. Does MXTX have some masochist fetish or what?!

[collapse]

I liked the references to some different TV show and so on, such as entering SEED mode. It made me want to see another modern influenced character by this author.

The novel was quite fast and sometimes felt rushed, things that didn't make sense or weren't explained, but overall I thought it was reasonably solid and an enjoyable read. Shen Qingqiu was random as heck, but the chaotic nature of everything was pretty fun, too. Don't look for anything too deep though. <<less

It's just ok. It's definitely MXTX's weakest work, that's for sure. Especially at the start, a lot of the writing is pretty crude. There aren't any big plot holes or problems with the story, it's more the writing style is still developing, the relationships feel strange and the interactions are generally a bit off. Compared to some other cultivation novels it's not bad, but compared to MXTX's other work it's rough, with tone and pacing issues and a 'romance' that is kind of awkward even at the end.

Spoiler

The s*x scenes towards the end of the story and then in the extras are also very bad, with excruciating detail where there shouldn't be detail, vagueness where there should be, and an uncomfortable 'this should surely not be so unpleasant' overall feeling.

What you have to understand about the MC is that he is a Lying Liar Who Lies, and he lies to himself the most.

The biggest complaint I had when reading was that SQQ didn't seem to be into LBH at all and the romance felt super forced. But then -- but then I realised how much of an unrealiable narrator he is.

He'll say "I am completely straight and I'm just indulging Luo Binghe because he's the protagonist, not a real person, I don't care about him at all" but all... more>> his actions contradict that, even if it took me a while to notice.

Bonus points for the bad, bad s*x. They're both virg*n pathetic losers and that's so based. <<less

Registered just to leave this review here. So, where do I start?

MC is constantly being thrown around and manipulated by ML, to the point it's painful to read. I feel very bad for SQQ, that man can't seem to catch a break.

Athough I do understand their relationship Isn't mean to be normal or healthy I feel like It's too far in this book. ML is a h**ny yandere to the point I don't know if its funny or sad.

Spoiler

At the part where ML r@pes MC I might've retched. It's disgusting to read, and It made me drop the book for quite the time. Really not very nice to read, and It's one reason that I took one star away.

[collapse]

Second reason for the 3 stars is the dynamic. I just don't like it at all. Not very greatly executed either.

Extras mediocre. MXTX should steer clear from smut. Clearly not her thing.

Would've given the book a worse review If it weren't for MC. SQQ brings just the perfect amount of humor into the book, all while having actual good jokes. Also love the fact
Spoiler

SQQ is an unreliable narrator, as seen after Binghe's 'death'

[collapse]

It would've improved the book if MXTX had written more chapters and interactions between MC & ML. Quite frankly can't understand how MC loves the ML.. Overall I think this novel is the black sheep in MXTX's perfect novels. TGCF & MDZS have better dynamics & more chapters which really leaves SVSSS in shame. <<less

This novel may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's certainly mine.

The concept, while not unique, was still compelling.

I had read that LBH never finds out about SY!SQQ's original identity.

[collapse]
With this being said, after reading through the novel, I don't think this matters much.

Speaking of the characters...

SQQ, for the most part, is great. While there are times I wish he was... just a little less dense, I am glad he was the protagonist.

I don't know what I thought when I originally started the novel, but I ADORE LBH and I would defend him with my life. He's definitely my favorite MXTX gong.

Also... I actually love Bingqui's relationship?

Other than that, I think out of all of the MXTX novels, SVSSS has the most amount of side characters that I like. Off the top of my head, I can't think of one I despised?

The story was also just the right length. Short enough where I never felt like the story was wasting my time, and long enough where I could get s**ked into the world and fall in love the characters. <<less

I rate this a 5 purely because of comedic values. Let’s talk about other aspects.

1) The ML: I think his mental state was unstable and at some points I feel bad for him because he got misunderstood by MC.

2) The MC: he got together with the ML in the end but it feels weird. Sometimes I thought his love was not really “romantic” but only out of him not knowing to do with ML and deciding to tag along.

3) The plot: dramatic and hilarious, but probably tragic if told through... more>> the ML’s POV.

Overall: Recommended if you only seek pure entertainment like me. <<less

I was attracted by the premise. But I was truly disappointed in the execution.

ML's abandonment issues weren't really explored and was not solved in a healthy way. I was hoping to see ML healing and going through his issues, under the care of MC. TBH I feel MC are more father-like to ML than a lover. And the relationship between the, are forced by ML so that's a yikes from.

Other than that this book was supossed to be a satire on stallion novel but we barely get anything from female... more>> characters, just names and why theyre in the harem. I was hoping the author would flesh them out more but... *sigh*. We could have had lesbians.

It was also said that this book is a satire on danmei but honest to god I feel like this book just take several danmei tropes and reuse them just like usual. The only thing handled differently is that the first time is bad like reality usually is. Still sucks tho.

Also I feel a bit offended when author wrote a character is ace but like in a 'what tha hell os he ace??' Kinda way ya know? Feeling a lil bit aphobic tonight huh

overall characters good concept good execution flopped so badly it would break a snake's spine. If I know how to give a zero I would. <<less

First thing first, this is just my opinion and I do want to mention that while I have somethings to rant about, I WILL NOT ATTACK AN AUTHOR and even if this novel had a questinable writting, I still enojyed Mxtx and I personally loved her other two series with Heavely offical blessing being my favorite and a masterpiece of storytelling and characther writting.

With that out of the way, here we go.

My most reason for writting this review is because of one characther who did ruined this story for me... more>> and that is ML. Now listen fristly, I loved MC and his funny and dramatic mindset, I also enojyed his conversation with Airplane and with other side characthers but I'm sorry, I just can't for love of me, like ML.

Now, I did actually liked ML at begging of the story and while it was basically throw at us that he will become much more "darker" characther after being thrown of a cliff, that actually wasn't my issue. First half of the story, I really enojyed and I'm talking about the scene where MC dies (he dosen't actually die but people who read it, they know what I'm talking about) and I could understand and even sympathize with ML, he was just thrown of a cliff by his teacher who while did treated him cruely before, started to slowly give him care and affection which he really never got as a child but then because he studied demon art's, his teacher (and even before ML could explain himself) throws him off the cliff and when ML see's him again, MC is avoding him and is giving him cold look's (MC has a reason why he is doing it) which is actually hurting him. When we actually MC's death and how MC's death really tramuzied ML and how he begged for forgivness, it did got to me a little bit.

HOWEVER AND OHH BOYY

After Mc's death ML takes his corpse and sleeps with it (he dosen't ahem him, he hug's Mc's corpse and does sleep near it), perhaps I could understand staying near the corpse for few days because and truly, MC's death did affect him BUT ML dosen't allow for other people (MC's friends, students) to take away the corpse (or even see it).

Later on when ML finds out that MC is actually alive, he forcefully lures out MC by threathing to destory his sect (and he did destroy few things), he teased MC when he clearly wasn't comftroable and forced him to be a prisoner (idc, if he had servants to take care of him, it was ageinst MC's will).

When MC escaped (through he escaped because his (let's say grass body got destroyed and his soul went on his corpse) and MC lived again and ML went to save him but it kinda blew on his face and MC had to protect him through everything and when I read their converastions, I perhaps had a glimmer of hope that at very least ML could became a better person and finally get over his toxic and obessive attidue towards MC but "lol, nope".

HERE COMES THE SCENE where our dear ML, even tho MC went through heaven and hell and risked his life to protect him and cared about him and proved to ML and he actually cares about him but no, while ML getting controlled by the sword was actually for me understandable and quite emotional when he accindetly killed MC (and honestly it was really written good) but now second time, when he goes bad sh*t insane because "MC dosen't care about him" really made me so goddam mad and because he loses his mind, MC has to clam him down and how does MC clam him down?.

Well, MC has to have an "ahem" with ML, yeah that's right. ML who is now out of his mind and couldn't controll himself had s*x with MC (which was VERY PAINFUL) that MC is actually BLEEDING, while ML does regain his sanity and is horrifed to what he did to MC, and MC says to him that he was prepared doe it and it get's brushed off, not even that they also have s*x later on.

And it kinda get's treated as a joke "haha, papapa to save the world", honestly why?.

Even if MC dosen't blame ML for it, at very least I hoped that ML would communicate with MC about it and that he would be very hesitant and afraid of having a s*xual interc**rse with him, BUT NOOO.

I'm sorry, but I could not enojy this novel JUST because of ML, side characthers made it enoyjable and honestly Original body of MC, was an actually an interesting characther.

There is also Airplane (who is author of the novel) and whom, I really loved to death.

And actually, he get's on with a demon (ML is also a demon (well half one) and in my opinion, both of them have better relationship then MC and ML.

Honestly, as I mentioned before, I love MXTX as an author but this novel just did not clickled with me.

I could not see the affection between ML and MC and or just looked like a toxic and obessive relationship to me. <<less

Plots were all over the place, romance development was meh, MC's character developments? Non-existent. Logic? What's that?

But somehow it works. All of that ridiculous parts made this novel hilarious. It's funny how MXTX could get away with it. That was a smart move not gonna lie.

s*upid author, s*upid novel! (affectionate)

i say this with much shame, but i’m a bit of a shen yuan kinnie. this dude hate read a webnovel and still managed to become one of its biggest fans. and how he feels about the proud immortal demon way, the work he transmigrated into, pretty much describes my feelings about the scum villain’s self-saving system too. that’s why after a lot of complaining, I have actually bought the official english edition (the translation is quite good by the way, I can recommend it)... more>> and re-read the first 5 chapters. so, here’s the review.

i’m felling incredibly generous today, so i’ll start with all the good things I can say about this novel:

+ the characters are simply superb in terms of characterization. it’s one in every 1000 webnovels when you get so many characters that despite being barely ever described become so real and believable. and we’re talking about a xianxia parody novel no less.

+ the character development is brilliant too. not really talking about the main character (god bless his soul) here, but rather everyone surrounding him and how they gradually become more real and complex as shen yuan changes the plot of the novel and as it progresses. all of sudden they’re no longer npcs and he can’t simply guess what they would do, anymore because, well, they’re their own people now. that’s some excellent stuff here.

+ you know what’s peak romance in this book?
Spoiler

liu qingge who keeps finding sqq’s fan and gives it back to him.

[collapse]

+ comedy. gold, really. it’s fuelled by the excellent narrative provided by shen yuan. his incredibly dry humour works so well in the setting, and for someone who is an avid reader, his remarks about all the cliches of the webnovels are ridiculously funny. now, the parody is not all there when it comes to the comedic aspects of this novel, of course; there’s also situational humour, which often emerges from, for instance, interactions between shen yuan and shang qinghua. the dynamics between different characters are very amusing on its own.

+ the original novel into which the MC transmigrated is being properly recalled numerous times and the divergence from the original course of event is actually central to the plot of sv. this is also what makes it so extremelly enjoyable despite the fact that there’s barely any good build up to the final plotline.

+ it feels almost as if the original goods (the “evil” master that shen yuan transmigrates into) is hunting the narrative. and, sir, this is my emotional support scum villain. he might be dead, but he lives in my heart. the fact that there’s some plot twist to what we know about characters as they’re introduced in pidw is great.
Spoiler

who would think that luo bingge was actually an unreliable narrator? because it certainly seems that he was

[collapse]

+ the airplane extras. that’s it, that’s the pro.

now, to my complaints:

- women. mxtx makes a point for shen yuan to complain about how in PIDW women are there only to be the protag’s prizes, and he does point out how terribly impractical and s*upid their overly fan-servicy robes are. the women do get some character development suggesting that they got their own lives now, but overall? that’s really not enough given how much potential female character have in this setting. at least they didn't get fridged, I guess..

- hey, quick question: why do straight people think that gay people being homophobic and repressed is peak comedy? it’s really not. it’s terribly boring, actually. y’all have been laughing at the same joke for years. quit it. also, “extra” points for mxtx for making not only homophobic jokes in the narrative, but also managing to make an offensive remark about as*xual people! that’s very niche for a webnovel, ngl. and it doesn’t spark joy.

- the major one- you see, when I started reading this novel, I thought the romance would be bad because it involved a master and a disciple, which has very much groomy-vibes (esp given that said disciple is just a kid when he’s first introduced). wo-ho, girls, boys, and my fellow non-binary readers, was I terribly wrong. the one who I can’t stand ended up being the disciple. sqq, you can still run.

the truth is, i’m giving this novel 4 stars mostly because i’m a sentimental fool and I enjoyed it a lot; I don’t think it actually deserves this rating, as there are many other webnovels that are much better than this one. but, after all, i’m not reading webnovels out of all things for the sake of intellectual stimulation, but solely for the sake for entertainment, and boy, this webnovel kept me very much entertained and I do come back to it... a lot.

so yes, go read scum villain. have fun with this s*upid novel. <<less

Oh my god... where do I begin?

I started this novel right after MDZS because I wanted to read all of MXTX's novels. First thing someone said to me was that it's not as good as MDZS so I went in with pretty low expectations. After finishing this, I got to say... they were wrong lol...I mean I get their point but I disagree. I would say they're pretty much on par with each other.

First of all, this story is so so much FUN! The novel is pretty much a comedy... more>> and a parody of it's own genre so it doesn't take itself seriously at all but there were wonderfully emotional moments happening as well. Just don't expect to be enlightened or anything and just enjoy the ride. Romance is also not the main focus of the story.

Story-wise, it's very straightforward with few unexpected surprises.
The MC was transmigrated into the stallion novel Proud Demon Immortal Way (PDIW) which he claims he hates but practically has memorized so the first part of the story pretty much followed the PDIW timeline of events. It wasn't until the second half of the story that things started getting interesting as the changes he had made in the beginning started to bear fruit and everything started deviating from the original novel - this is when things get crazy lmao

The highlight of the novel are the characters. Initially, because of the way the story is written, you don't really expect for the characters to be more than they are but the characters are unexpectedly complicated and very well-written. The antagonist of the story is quite unique and probably one of my favorites. Even the 'scum villain' who the MC transmigrated into has has quite the story and depth despite only really being mentioned int he story

To summarize, this is a great read if you're looking for something funny with a dash of angst. Don't expect it to be romantic as the romance is just a side thing here despite not seeming so. <<less

Would give this 6* if I could.

Have read everything, including the 20 extras. I'll make the bold claim that anyone who hasn't read all the extras can't make a correct judgement of the CP dynamic and relationship. This is a book were the extras a absolutely vital if you want to get the full picture.

This was my first real danmei, I love it to pieces, and it's impossible for me to praise it too much. I'm very biased so also have a hard time recognizing the flaws of... more>> this book. I'm sure they're there, but I simply can't see them through my rose-tinted reading glasses.

SVSSS is one of the best books I've ever read, and one of the books I've reread the most times. The CP lives rent-free in my head. It's not for everyone, and it's a book you absolutely have to read more than once to fully get. Despite being relatively short for a danmei, there are so many small details and an intricate story that most readers won't notice during the first read. This is partly because it's a very fast-paced rom-com story with a big focus on comedy. It's a deceptively easy read, and very enjoyable, but with a few hidden knives.

What's so good about SVSSS?

    • The premise: You have to like silly transmigration stories and parodies full of tropes (that the book makes fun of but also takes slightly serious some of the time).
    • The humor: If you don't like the humor, you won't enjoy it. Simple as that. I'm very picky with comedy reads, but SVSSS continues to crack me up every times I read it. It's genuinely one of the funniest books I've ever read.
    • The MC: WWX from MDZS is objectively a more compelling MC (and undoubtedly one of the best MCs ever written), but SQQ is a close second. He's a riot, yet also someone you actually want to root for. He's one of those magical book characters that feels like a living, breathing person. He's sassy and b*tchy on the inside, while keeping a cool, aloof, and pretentious appearance on the outside. He's constantly freaking out about getting in danger and unexpected situations, yet still heroic and compassionate even though he doesn't flaunt it. He's smart, yet insanely dense when it comes to the ML and romance. He makes dumb mistakes, but it's believable that he thinks and acts they way he does. He's one of my all-time favorite novel characters simply because he feels utterly human. And yes he loves the ML. But take the unreliable narrator tag seriously when reading.
    • The ML: Luo Binghe is precious and no one can convince me otherwise. He's also a dark and slightly evil (kind of?) demon lord. He's ridiculously OP, which is a constant joke in the story. He's also just a sad, abandoned and abused young boy. He's obsessively in love with the MC for very good reasons, and yes the whole "I love Shizun since he's the only one who ever treated me well" is a trope, but it's made believable and we get to subtly witness why and how ML falls in love.
    • The romance: If you want puppies and butterflies or super romantic, fluffy love stories, then this ain't it. But it's not toxic as some readers claim. It's a subtle romance involving misunderstandings, a dense, gay-in-denial MC and an ML who's traumatized and has trust issues for good reasons. Both make a lot of mistakes and hurt each other. But they figure it out. They are both flawed, and they have to grow to make it work, and no, things aren't ever going to be 100% perfect, because trauma doesn't just go away. It's dark and contains dubcon elements, but if you pay real attention to the story it's very much a mutual, if understated romance.
    • The plot: It's fast and tropey (on purpose) and mostly meant to be funny. But while you're busy laughing, suddenly the author hits you right in the heart with some unforseen tragic or angsty scene. And SVSSS doesn't have angst just for the sake of angst. The tragic parts aren't magically healed by the end. You end up getting affected because when something sad happens, then likely it won't really be fixed. There's a reason why SVSSS fans tear up if you mention Shen Jiu. It's not a very original plot, but it's funny and sad and never dull.
    • Side characters: I love them all to pieces. Pick your own favorite, they're all iconic. Especially the females. Despite what some people claim, MXTX is not a misogynist. The female characters exist for their own sake, not for the sake of plot or protagonist. That's a major point in the story.
    • Writing: I've seen claims that SVSSS isn't as well-written as MXTX's other books. I disagree. It's a brilliant piece of writing if you read it in a proper translation (I've read it so far in 2-3 different ones). Simple style doesn't equal bad. There are so many little bits and pieces, hidden in throwaway sentences in the story that reveal how much MXTX thought about and meticulously crafted these characters. The style is distinct, but that doesn't make it bad. Good pacing and precise prose with a good flow is a sign of good writing.
    • Meta: So much meta in this story. The novel pokes fun at everyone and everything in a loving, good-natured way - from fujoshis to fanfics, danmei and xianxia tropes to stallion novels and webnovels in general and work conditions for webnovel writers.
About the ending and the smut (especially the infamous scene in the main story) :

Spoiler

Some find the ending rushed, but to me, it was perfect. I don't want it dragged out, and a good rom-com ending should be short and sweet. The main conflict is solved, the CP finally get together, the end.

Then we have the extras to explore how the CP develop and start to navigate their actual relationship. And the extras are soo good.

The smut: The infamous s*x scene in the main story isn't supposed to be steamy. It's supposed to be horrifying and uncomfortable to read - that's the whole point. It's a weird kind of dubcon - the MC is willing and takes initiative, but for entirely practical reasons and suffers a lot during it, while the ML would likely not want it if he was fully conscious, but he's the active part and isn't forced to do it, and for plot reasons it's what he needs at the time. But it's not meant to be sexy.

As for the smut in the extras, it's mainly written for comedic effect. Also MXTX isn't the best smut writer out there. Anyone who's read MDZS should know this.

[collapse]

TL;DR: You will be more likely to enjoy to this if you like smart, fast paced comedy, subtle character development and understated romance with an unreliable narrator who's extremely dense when it comes to love and his own feelings. Anyone who doesn't like this or is squamish about graphic dubcon that's not supposed to be a pleasant read, but important for the plot, don't read it. <<less

it was meh... the other mxtx works are really good but this one was very euhhhh. the beginning was really good, I enjoyed it very much. but it kinda went downhill after the blackening part. the biggest deal breaker for me was ML. hes very uhm... he and MC don't really have a healthy relationship. his actions irked me a lot. he didn't r*pe MC or anything but all of his actions are very manipulative and toxic. at the time I read this, I was fairly new to danmei, but... more>> coming back more experienced with danmei, i'd have to say this was one of the more toxic relationships i've seen from a book rated as high as 4.4. <<less

×Characters are very interesting! MXTX's characters are always emitting a feeling of being unique and they are always loveable

×however, I'm not too fond of the plot nor the relationship of the main CP

×It feels like SQQ needs to babysit an unstable teenager baby for the rest of his life. And my brain keeps seeing SQQ as LBH's grandpa/ nanny

... more>> ×But I swear Mobei-jun and Shang Qinghua lifted my rating for SVSSS, as well as Liu Qingge!!!!!!, Gongyi Xiao, Zhuzhi-lang, and Tianlang-jun. Of course I love Shen Yuan!!!!

×Bing-ge = manipulative but with a good sexc brain

×Bing-mei = manipulative ; foot stomping ; crii bebi ; tantrums tantrums

×I swear QAQ Liu Qingge could've been better. But I am not crying due to the fact that he's not SQQ's

×pairing like Shen Jiu x Bing-mei would be too chaotic but this would've been more intriguing for me lol j.k.

×Liu Qingge for grandpa Shen Yuan!!

×JK Nvm I'm going to reread SVSSS maybe I'll like it more <<less

The book doesn't take itself seriously so yes, it's pretty funny but ONLY in the earlier parts. I was pleasantly surprised by how cute MC and ML's student-teacher dynamic is.

I mainly read this because it's popular and I wanted to see the if it's worth the hype. I really like the earlier part of the story especially ... more>>
Spoiler

SQQ's first death (made me cry really hard haha)

but after that, things just went downhill.

MC gets kidnapped and escape and gets kidnapped again so many times even though he's supposed to be this powerful guy. It gets old VERY quickly.

I stopped reading after chapter 65.

I really hate the book after

they ran in the tomb and STILL gets captured like wtf then what's the use of those long ass tomb adventures?

[collapse]

The whole thing about
Spoiler

SQQ's double resurrection and the Holy Mausoleum

[collapse]
is so sloppy it feels like a filler arc and that sht gets on my nerves real quick.

Not to mention, I personally find

so obnoxious and they're the main reason I dropped this book. <<less
