Before I start the review, let's be clear about something. That Ancient Times tag is there for a good reason so there are a lot of elements in this story that seems bad if we look at it with our modern sense of morality. Yes, the MC was sold to the ML as a s*ave and he does end up having s*x with her but not in a way you would think from the summary.

Now to the actual review. This may be a Smut, but it is more of a... more>> plot with smut rather than the reverse. The actual penetration scenes only happen in 90 chapters and everything prior is the build-up to the s*x. The ML doesn't take the MC against her will and the act is consensual.

Now that think of it, it is quite ironic that a novel with word "Rough Man" in the title has one of the most lovable ML compared to the stories with the word "Gentleman" on it.

The story itself only has the Female Protagonist tag because we see the FL's perspective instead of the ML's when they are not together which happens very few times across the entire novel. Most of the story is told in the 3rd person perspective so there's that.

Now onto the characters

The MC is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty who was the daughter of a Minister in the Emperor's court but her parents were killed in a coup and she escaped death by a narrow margin and was forced to live in the streets. She worked at a brothel for a while before escaping and getting caught by human traffickers. She scarred her face badly to avoid whoring herself out but that cost her value for the s*ave traders who abused her physically (Not sexually) until she met the ML. After the ML bought her, she becomes his wife and gradually grows past her fears and becomes a strong person. (Her scar never healed but neither she nor the ML cares)

The ML is the best point of this novel. He is hands down one of the best MLs in such novels in my opinion. He is a hulking 6.5 feet tall man with the body of a bodybuilder and a 14-inch Magnum Dong to match. Even so, he is gentle to the FL and yet firm when the situation calls for it.

He spanked her ass multiple times when the FL didn't follow his order to wash his clothes like a wife ought to but nonetheless doesn't hit her in any other shape or form, physically or verbally

He is really open with his desires and is fiercely loyal to the FL and never forgets to reiterate how beautiful she is even with the scars. He could have just taken her and be done with it but choose to slowly but steadily gain her heart and her body which was fun to read.

He is also a really sweet guy despite his looks and isn't a hypocrite.

He was genuinely surprised that the FL was a virg*n since he knows how difficult it is for women to survive on the streets.

That aside, there are several 18+ actions like handjobs and fellatio throughout the earlier chapters but all of them are vanilla asf. There is no NTR anywhere (More like the ML is uncuckable with how good he is in bed) and the ML and FL are only attracted to each other, not even fancying someone else.

By no means is this a masterpiece in terms of the language used, but it is quite a good read nonetheless. <<less

I love the ML of this novel. FL is kinda annoying for me till this chapter. The other reviewers said that FL will take initiative so I guess that will be in the upcoming chapters lol.

So when ML is in the town, FL grabs his clothes to save her. He buys her and brings her home.

Here comes the part where I find the FL super annoying. I know she has suffered a lot till now but it's like she treats ML like he is the one who caused her family to become like this. She refuses to listen to anything and just tries to beat and scratch ML repeatedly. She was the one who kinda like asked ML to buy her and save her but now she just treats ML like her worst enemy.

Part of it I get it, she has suffered a lot and can't trust people easily but ML literally saved her and she asked for him to do it.

And the other thing this she is very arrogant. In correct times, arrogance comes out as cool and all but at this time, it just comes out as dumb. We have to consider that the story takes place in ancient times. What happened to her was the best possible solution that could happen. As for ML, I love him. He was never abusive towards FL (except for spanking her). And when FL was sick the first night she was there, he sold his treasure (a part of a tiger he previously killed) and used the money to feed FL medicine. And when she didn't wake up, he even considered to sell their house to have money to buy the medicines.

I really loved ML after this part. <<less

Honestly, I read upto chapter 20 and all I can say is that it gets more interesting as you are reading. Theres more plot in this novel then what u would expect from novel like these and thats what makes it better. The male lead, this he really is quite rough and it's easy to understand his thought process especially for a man during those times. He is illiterate and and uneducated but even then he has integrity and respect for the female lead.

Actually, I started to read in chapter 80. Coz I only want to read the smut hehehe... But after that, I enjoyed the plot, and sometimes skip the smut because it makes me h**ny whereas I want plot :v After I completed the novel, because some of the plot not really clear, I read from the first chapter until chapter 80 (where I started to read this novel). In my opinion, chapter 80 until 211 I gave it rating 5*. But, 1-80 I gave it rating 4*. So, in the... more>> end I only gave it rating 4* because if I read from the first chapter, there is a high chance that I will dropped this novel. And if I dont read chapter 80-211, I think I will give this novel rating 3* <<less

Sweet story, simple plot with nice smut.

I love ML dirty talk the most.

They're lovely couple. ML is sweet husband and their relationship develop so well.

FL is not passive one, she's active in this relationship haha. I love her.

I enjoyed this novel.

(But I still skip some smut later because I get bored)

Each chapter a bit short so it not that long as I think.

I hope this novel isn’t dropped yet by the translator *crossed fingers*

I love the story a LOT! And the smut is *chef’s kiss* Although they hadn’t done IT yet, the spice, tension, and build up was SO HOT! (Ugh I always end up scratching the walls whenever the ML gets wild) I like smut stories that have well thought plots and authors that put great effort to details that helps in the foundation of their relationship. ☺️ The story and characters are well delivered and it centralizes on the progression of... more>> their relationship as husband and wife. The other reviews have covered it pretty well. This is a straightforward story and pretty good for the genre.

I'm giving it an average review because I personally dislike the FL (which doesn't seem like a common opinion so take it with a grain of salt) and because any misunderstandings caused by not communicating are annoying.

She's just very needy and petty. They have a couple of arguments and she doesn't let things go for days. At the end, there's a big scene where her past is revealed and someone wants to take her away back to the capital. After a night of anguish, the MC decides that person can give her a better life and is ready to send her away. It's good that the FL refuses and stops it, but she still leaves the MC to stay with someone else in the village for days! What a pain.
