Chen Xiao Qian is a seventh-rate screenwriter who has worked hard to create a large production female-led costume drama. It could have been successfully filmed but failed because of actor Han Ming Xing’s reservations about the script.

Feeling resentful, Chen Xiao Qian vows to prove the strength of her script and accidentally gets stuck in a parallel world living out her script. She becomes the 3rd Princess Chen Qian Qian of Hua Yuan City.

Originally a princess who is an insignificant side character with a bad reputation that could not live further than three episodes, she changes her fate to survive. In order to live, she takes matters into her own hand to change her fate.

She gets caught in between the arrogant and black-bellied prince Han Shuo and the practically perfect Pei Heng. Along the way, she finally grows up and learns to love.

The Romance of Tiger and Rose was the surprise hit drama of 2020.

Blackbellied, handsome Crown Prince Han Shuo is trying to marry into Flower City, where women rule, in order to find a treasure to cure his illness. However, his plans are completely overturned when he is instead kidnapped by the tyrannical Princess Chen Qian Qian. All sorts of hijinks ensue.

Inside Flower City, women are the heads of state, heads of families, and make all the rules. In the drama, the double standard was shown to brilliant effect. Later, when... more>> the story moves to

the male-dominated Xuanhu, the double standards are even clearer. Fortunately, the drama story is resolved in an equitable way in the end.

Turns out this is all a screenplay written in the modern world by young screenwriter Chen XiaoQian, who unsuccessfully tries to persuade popular film emperor, Han Ming Xing, to act in her drama.

I've only read the first 3 chapters, but it was enough to immerse me back inside the delightful drama. If the drama followed the novel faithfully, the screenwriter will end up entering her own screenplay as the tyrannical Princess Qian Qian, trying to navigate her doomed fate as a cannon fodder, using her knowledge of the plot to try to escape her story, and the Crown Prince who falls hopelessly in love with her.

I hope the rest of this novel gets translated. The drama was really good. And to my surprise, it was the first time the "unbearably handsome" male lead in a story matched the actor in a drama. In the drama, with the gender roles switched in Flower City, it was interesting to watch men relying on their looks and talents to get ahead, the women using their abilities to serve in court, the lower status men wearing loose hair and loose robes (not even a belt) like idlers, the higher status women wearing high, tight hairstyles, and the surprises that await in Xuanhu's city (like the Queen, omg). <<less

I watched the drama, so this review may be entirely inaccurate XD. But I decided to leave it anyway because I plan to read this novel in the future (just waiting a while to forget the details so that I can experience the love between the two main leads without any bias from my perception of cannon from the drama.) I'm looking forward to reading it! I enjoyed the drama quite a bit, and even if the TL has only just begun, I'm willing to read the MTL to see... more>> the characters come to life again.

SUMMARY: The FL is a screenwriter from Modern Day China. She transmigrates into one of the side characters of her work -- which was considered a failure by both the cast and crew. In the original work, this side-character was bound to die on the night of her wedding, and it would lead the male and female lead of the original work to achieve their happy ending. However, after transmigration, the FL of course chooses to survive, causing the entire plot to go sideways. It should be noted that the main theme of this novel is gender equality. The setting is ancient times, but it's a fantasy version. One where there are two conflicting cities -- one ruled by men, and the other ruled by women. The ML is the crown prince of the city ruled by men, and the FL (as well as the original female protagonist) are princesses of the city ruled by women. <<less
