Plotline: 6/10 : Overdone regression, new game+ style, must defeat ultimate baddie by growing stronger than before, let's set up a sect for all the common people/fight the power!!

Protagonist: 12/10 : mood-swinging mad Chad who can't find romance except in the adventurous or brotherly sense. Slight narcissistic behaviour which is quite adorable. ("That is me.")

Characters: 9/10 : over-used stereotypes well-developed by their interactions with our dear mad chad

Translation: 7/10: you can understand what's happening but some cultural references may slip by you, read chapters carefully as mad chad's thoughts... more>> randomly reference past events and plots to build a good sense of his madness + thought process.

World: 6/10: classic murim but haven't explored much of the good guy sects yet.

Action scenes: 9/10: excellent with sprinkle of beyond the norm, though since mad chad is OP you kind of just want to see what's gonna be different about the next ass-kicking.
Spoiler

chapter 86 is one hell of a doozy, I mean actions scenes in novels will forever be compared against this one for edginess, tension and resolve, you have been warned

[collapse]

Will try to update as story continues, ahhh I wish the translators would release more than 3 chappies a week. I save em up for my Sunday dinner.

Ahhh, translators had to drop it...... Now have to depend on the manhwa which is significantly behind still god though, a few details slipping by as compared to the novel <<less

Wow!

This is surprisingly good. I had read the reviews before and I thought it would be enjoyable but after reading and while I was reading it was so exciting, and the protagonist is crazy lol, really crazy.

One of the chapters got me laughing like crazy, it's so embarrassing to even mention it, I felt bad for that girl lol

... more>> The cover picture just describes the MC well, he has a bit of laid back energy, with a small smile that you cant tell what he's thinking.

He is so unpredictable, he is so fleshed out and the other characters aren't even bad at all.

I personally like the fact that the story is in first person, it's much more amusing when he says the reasons why some1 makes him angry. To be honest MC feels like some1 who wouldn't be tied down by anything, he is in his own world. <<less

A fantastic read. The MC has such an interesting mindset. He's not just some edgy antihero out for revenge. His thoughts and actions are bizarre and sometimes downright hilarious. Highly recommend.

The story is pretty generic and a common cardboard cutout of basically every cultivation manual/mahwua out there.

But by God is the MC funny. Bro raised this story from a 2 star to a 4.5 star at the drop of a hat. Him and that snake bastard that owns a restaurant ((◠‿・) —☆) is by far one of my favorite duos in manhua/manhwa history.

Everyrhing that comes out of bro's mouth is pure bullsh*t with no filter. He will say the most out of context things with the straightest face. And... more>> he ain't a simp either.

We love an MC with Chad energy. <<less

This was a huge disappointment, expected much better after reading the reviews and rating. I feel like it's inflated because a lot of people have read the manhwa, some even stated the novel on its own was boring but gave a 5/5 because they like the manhwa.

It started quite interesting, if messy and chaotic. I liked the idea of a crazy protagonist. After a few chapters, I started to suspect this was actually really just a subpar novel. After 10 chapters, I was losing more and more interest, after 20... more>> I wanted to drop it because of how bad it was, I still forced myself to 35 in case it would improve, but no. It didn't.

It's a boring novel, the protagonist feels very forced, he's "crazy" because the author says so, but he's not good at actually acting crazy. He's just slightly random and barely makes any sense. It doesn't flow well at all. He's a "good" person but just chaotic in his way of going about it. It reads choppily and the protagonist is simply weird and doesn't feel real in any way. The other characters feel even more empty, calling them cardboard cutouts would be too kind of me. Every single dialogue and inner monologue appears artificial.

As for comedy, I can see attempts, but it ends as only attempts, never actually funny. It tries to force in various "funny" dialogue where the protagonist "acts crazy" or just randomly. This stuff could have been fun if not for the fact that he's SUPPOSED TO BE CRAZY. Nothing fun about someone who's supposed to be crazy acting in a way that's normal for him, every single dialogue and action ends up similar.

Just overall a disappointing experience to read. I stand by my belief that this has an inflated score due to the manhwa. Maybe give that a try instead, I haven't read it though. <<less

This is very good.
Pro

  • MC is quirky, in a good way, you feel like he plays the crazy man while deep down he has an actual goal to achieve.
  • Some interactions and situations are genuinely funny.
  • Characters are consistent and reused in the story, they also change over time.
Con

  • No romance so far.

I've been reading webnovels for over a decade and, thus far, this is one of the best I've ever encountered. The MC is hilarious, the pacing is great, and the atmosphere is incredible. If you like crazy protagonists in an ancient Korean setting, you need to try this series.

It's so boring that I have to struggle to read each chapter.

Until now, MC is way stronger than all enemies he's fought so there's no suspense in fights, yet all fights are drawn out. Also, he's supposed to be crazy, yet he comes across as someone trying hard to appear crazy. He's also a naive goody two shoes who just happens to get lucky all the time and have everything go his way.

For example, ... more>>

black hurricane gang happen to run into him while on the way to tr*sh his town while he was away. Also, whenever he kills a boss, the boss' immediate subordinate always turns out to be a helpful good guy who manages everything for the MC.

[collapse]

He's supposed to be a very experienced person yet he makes naive childish decisions and actions and things work out for him anyway. And the author tries to attribute everything to the MC's crazy genius, but the MC is neither crazy nor a genius. The other characters are also very two dimensional with very little character growth. <<less

Crap I’ve done it again!! It should really be 5 stars!!!!

MC is absolutely mental, he’s insane. His witty comebacks are very funny and he sticks to his morals. I’m in too early to properly give a good opinion, but it’s funny and I think you should give this a chance!

TL;DR: Fun, quirky Wuxia with surprisingly serious notes. Translation is only okay.

The series is different because the MC is irreverent and unpredictable, but also because the MC actually has mental issues constantly fighting to the death and sometimes killing dozens or even hundreds of people. So this series both pokes fun at Wuxia themes while sometimes, like 10% of the time, also taking them more seriously than most Wuxia novels.

The MC fools around as a way to distance himself from the difficult reality of his life. His initial character arc... more>> is of an errand boy that was constantly beaten down and abused by warriors and criminals until he had enough and decided to become the strongest, so that he can protect the working man. If you think that is crazy, then that is exactly right, he basically had a mental breakdown, but also he is actually quite talented. He didn't have a normal upbringing and no kind master saved him as a child or guided him. He had to rise by himself in a bloody and harsh world and his mental health suffered further.

The story starts with him regressing after a failure of a sort, and his battle now is to reach his original goal of protecting the common man while not going insane as before, plus helping other outsiders like himself if he can.

Most of the plot is pretty fun, and there are some laugh out loud moments sprinkled here and there.

I think the translation isn't great. It started okay, but it went down in quality about half way through or something similar. This story is pretty complicated at times and the translation often doesn't make sense in those instance, or complex conversations are translated with incorrect subject/pronoun assignment. <<less

MC is pretty unique, but what sets this apart is that it has such a likeable cast of characters. So many interesting side characters for real. Also, the sense of atmosphere/immersion is really good, too.
