This seemed to be a good story of forced marriage with a funny free spirited FL and a repressed low EQ ML so I continued on mtl, even gritted my teeth past the forced consummation but

the big jealousy induced savaging that injures her a lot can’t be tolerated. The author should have written her going to the hospital and showing her parents proof to finally get a divorce. Instead she has her cover it up, blame her first love ex for making that b*st*rd jealous (who by the way says “sorry” again), saying she’ll forgive him if he kneels on a washboard for 30 minutes, covering it up for the inlaws. And what’s mindblowing is her inner monologue that this will be a miserable life bc he gives her good s*x but also violently r*pes her when he’s really angry. She even asks him to let her rest before he assaults her when he’s angry that the ex took her to replace the phone he broke during the savaging. This is classic symptom of being mentally beaten down by him using s*x to dominate her throughout the story. Even the ex calls out domestic abuse and tries to take her to the hospital but she lies and says they love each other. I disgustedly threw up my hands at this point

Why doesn't this have any reviews?

To be honest, I'm torn on this series.

On the one hand, I love the main leads' interactions and quarrels - they're so funny to read and entertaining. The FL is always the on the losing end of the stick when it comes to shameless-ness, but she doesn't go down without a fight.

On the other hand, I genuinely feel uncomfortable that the FL's own parents, as well as the ML's family, are forcing her into a marriage that she has explicitly said she didn't want to... more>> go through with, and also when it *appeared* that the ML had forced himself on the FL (he didn't - it was all a misunderstanding) her parents took no action and the marriage still continued. It made me genuinely angry at her parents.

I guess, read this series knowing that it is a work of fiction, exploiting the it's-not-really-hate-it's-love trope through funny dialogue and matches of shameless-ness between the two lead, while not thinking too deeply about what would happen if this actually happened in real life. <<less
