The Rebirth of the Last Days and Return to [Fang] Hao

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

Before rebirth, He Zizhong was unfortunate. This loyal dog was loyal to the wrong target. In the difficult end times, he was betrayed by his relatives, deceived by his lover to show his space, and was sadly chased by the enemy.

It wasn’t until before he died that he learned that Fang Hao, who accompanied him all the way, turned out to be the junior brother who confessed to him in high school. It’s a pity that he died too, in his arms.

In He Zizhong’s past life, Fang Hao felt that he was lucky, after six or seven years, in the desperate apocalypse, he found the senior who was his first love again, and he could accompany him for half a year.

More importantly, at the end of life, you can still die in the arms of someone you like. Is there anything happier in the world?

After rebirth, He Zizhong reused facts to prove that of course there is something happier in this world than death at the same point.

With a space and a lover who he has vowed to protect in this life, hitting zombies, upgrading and creating a better life together, this is He Zizhong’s life goal after rebirth. What do you do when you encounter a lover who has cheated on your feelings in your previous life, a selfishly-wants-to-deceive-your-own-space cousin, or issues a killing order to chase down your love rival?

Since they can’t get around, step on them in the mud with one foot!

Note: Everything that they collected was used by the end of the story. I checked; even the production equipment was used to collect crystal nuclei to upgrade their space. So make your own judgment by reading this.

I actually really liked this one. I think it's because I wasn't expecting face-slapping and was expecting farming from the very beginning? Also, it's not the typical farming either. At least it was better than the Reborn Otaku novel. This one didn't drag on endlessly. There was a certain method and direction in their... more>> hoarding and there was even entertainment in the form of the targets of face-slapping spontaneously combusting from their own ugliness. Like, as some of the reviews mentioned, the ML had plans to take 'care' of them slowly but... ehm... he got interrupted. Let's just leave it at that and I found it absolutely hilarious. Because he spent his time being happy with his lover and friends and actually living properly instead of being steeped in revenge. It was very heart-warming. The ending was a biiit rushed but it ended well and I'm satisfied with it.

Also, I disagree that there was no romance. This whole time they were stuck together and being so sweet. The novel started off so well and I really loved that ML & MC were so honest with each other. And ML was not simply just a good little boy. He was strong in many ways. Just because he likes being obedient to ML doesn't mean he's weak and MC doesn't like him for being obedient either. From the beginning to the end, MC likes him for being strong.

Anddd I love the side charas. Especially Yin Dong & Yan Xin. Hahahaha. Yin Dong started as an antagonist & Yan Xin is like a protagonist of a novel. He's a hidden side boss who gets activated half-way through the novel. I love him so much. OwO

PS: I don't understand why MC is perceived to have no personality. Sure, he is not super badass, but this story is about an ordinary worker right? He is capable at work, is kind, loyal and has normal emotions like anger towards blood sucking relatives, etc. He doesn't behave like a caricature at all. At least I didn't feel he was 2D when reading. And his choices prove that he is different from other rebirth MCs. Because he values his family, living comfortably, is cautious about their safety, lives up to his conscience, is responsible towards his teammates (even temporary ones). None of this is an indicator of '0 personality'. Of course, he can also be soft-hearted sometimes. But it makes him more human. Also, there are infatuated people in real life too. For ex: those frantic fans of stars, did they really interact with the stars before becoming so crazy for them? Similarly, Fang Hao also fell in love because he observed MC's personality (he is handsome, responsible, strong and kind = male god level). Sure he is s*upid and infatuated but there are people like that in reality too. And he wasn't even like a pe*vert. He just silently liked someone. Besides, there's a hidden story on when he likes MC. They didn't just meet in high school.

Ah, I checked again. It seems they didn't read past chapter 17. Judging a 200+ chapter novel in just those few chaps is quite irresponsible. Anyway, my perception of the novel is completely different after reading it completely. So it's better to make your own judgment after reading it yourself. I feel this deserves a good chance~ <<less

Hoarding.

That's what this novel is about: collecting anything and everything just because they can. Most of the crap they collect THEY DON'T NEED OR USE!

Hoarding.

... more>> The romance? No effort.

The MC and ML? Overpowered. They don't struggle. I don't even see the point of them living on base, because they don't need to.

The enemies? Their endings are mostly an after thought, like an "oh, by the way" moment.

I felt like the author created this Apocalypse to give the MC and ML a long honeymoon or something while handing the villains some boring retribution in the background. Smut could've livened this story up, but no, none, nothing.

Oh yeah, there were zombies and mutant plants...a slight action packed story towards the end because the author seemed to realize THERE NEEDS TO BE A PLOT... but meh

Spoiler

Then there was this dumpling thing that I think was supposed to represent their space, which acted like a spoiled child with low IQ... I don't know... it was annoying...

I think the author used the dumpling to make the story more interesting... it didn't.

[collapse]

So, yeah, this story is about hoarding lots of stuff and enjoying an apocalyptic honeymoon.

The End. <<less

This novel's author also wrote "The Reborn Otaku’s Code of Practice for the Apocalypse, " so you can expect that the novel isn't bad.

There is a lot of face slapping towards the MC's enemies which are always satisfying, the romance is decent and the novel ended smoothly and nicely. The side characters were fun to read. And I'm a sucker for pretty OP and smart MC/MLs. Definitely an enjoyable read (highly suggest MTL/read the author's other works).

I wouldn't say this novel is the author's BEST work since I've read their... more>> other 2 novels and they were great. But this one is definitely worth it.

The reason why one star was ticked off
Spoiler

The enemies that die in the novel are pretty unsatisfactory, as in they die from someone else's hand and the MC had no part in it.

It’s not bad just boring as hell. I like slice of life and I like books with cooking and the apocalypse and seme protagonists. So this should’ve been a great book for me but I literally couldn’t make it past chapter 17.
The MC is your usual apocalypse protagonist except with nothing behind the eyes. He has a typical space given to him by his ancestors/been passed down his family and is vaguely powered with Buddhism. He was betrayed in his past life and hoards in this one but has... more>> 0 personality.
The male lead is sweet and loyal but makes no sense. I genuinely can’t fathom why he loves the MC as much as he does because they barely interacted as kids? MC didn’t do anything sweet or kind or even hang out with the ML so I don’t understand why the ML is that ride or die. It’s like falling in love with a random dude at your school and dedicating your entire life to them for no reason? Like it couldn’t have been his personality because again the MC doesn’t have one. <<less

Ok zombie apocalypse novel if you have zero expectations and can ignore the fujosh*t nonsense. If you can't then you should really just skip this. But if you're into a pure sugar sweet perfect daily life of a perfect couple with a zombie apocalypse in the background and a magical space then this might be for you.

    • The main CP: Being a romance novel you'd expect it to be one of the strongest point but it's honestly the weakest part. I couldn't force myself to get attached to the main cp even though the story is 80% about them. They get together really quickly at the beginning and it's smooth sailing for their relationship from then on. There's also some sort of fate related thing implied after but I really can't get invested. The problem isn't because of the lack of conflict but also because there's really no chemistry between them. Their characters are so flat it's like putting together two pieces of white bread together and calling it a sandwich. Just bland through and through. I wish there were better pairings in this whole novel but eh.
The ML (bottom) is 200% dedicated to the MC (the top) to the point that if MC mu*ders him it would make him happy (he says it himself). They never have any disagreement because ML just bends over to whatever the MC decides, unless it's the latter putting himself in danger then he'd struggle a little bit. He serves as a prop, a cook and a cheerleader for the MC, that's it. He has no friends before the apocalypse or anything and doesn't forge any bond (outside MC) during the apocalypse either, even the supporting characters see MC and ML as a singular entity instead of as individuals. In this world, only the MC matters to him, everyone else is chopped liver. He is the typical soft boy shou with super 100% natural beauty (no need for make up unlike those other gay men and women) in fact he is so beautiful that he can even attract a super star who consistently has beauties throwing themselves at him. He is an adult but can pass off as a high schooler (yeah) and is consistently referred to in the story as wife, girlfriend, mother, mommy, boy, child, etc.

MC is a perfect seme gong dorito man; powerful, intelligent and has great control over his emotions. Nothing fazes him. Nothing stresses him. He is always in control of himself and his 'wife'. He is the man, he is the father, the dad the daddy, the leader. He has a powerful space that is pretty much an alternate, safe world where he and his wife can go on honeymoons together.

Honestly I don't understand what the apocalypse even is for these two. They have a self sufficient space they can live in so I don't get why they still have to venture outside. They never really share much space by-products to outsiders either. They don't really have a goal. At first MC wanted revenge but he never really focused on it. They're not researching the infection, not looking for a cure, not rescuing relatives, has no interest making friends, etc. They just get tossed a mission or actively pick up work and that's it.

As if it's not enough that MC and ML are already overpowered...
Spoiler

The space gives them an overpowered 'child', not really a human child but a round sentient cotton ball which they named Tuanzi and it acts like their child, referring to MC and ML as father and mother respectively. I thought it was cute at first but it became an annoying thing later on. Not cute at all. (And I'm usually a fan of this kind of characters.)

[collapse]

    • My favourite characters in this whole novel is the Samsara, a group of survivors. They made this novel a scant likeable. The rest of the side characters are not very likeable and as expected from an apocalypse novel, lots of evil and greedy people which is understandable because everyone (except for the MC and ML) are struggling to survive.
    • The novel has an obvious dislike of women. The only decent female characters was one of the supporting characters aunt/inlaw (?) and some dude's wife. Women either get killed violently or showcased as some shallow scummy lady first before dying violently. There's also a disdain for men who apply make up or wear drag.
      Spoiler

      "Oh? What's different?"
"Many of the little gays we saw were a bit feminine, flowery speech, and put on makeup."

The man added a sentence in his stomach: In comparison, these two are less scary. Fang Hao quietly pulled He Zizhong's arm, and He Zizhong moved his ear to him:

      "Senior, do you

do you like that feminine style?"

He Zi twitched his cheeks and tapped on the back of his head:

"It's better to find a woman directly."

      [collapse]
The power system was simple but I like it enough. Easy to understand and get into. I also like the different abilities but I wish there were stronger characters like MC and ML.

If you are expecting face-slapping...

Spoiler

Forget it. Like I said, the MC puts his quest for revenge on the back burner and the villains got tired waiting for him so they were cleaned up by their own hands or by others. Honestly it's pretty unsatisfying, if the author was just going to dispose of them like this they shouldn't have wasted time on them in the first place.

[collapse]

I guess I wasn't really the target demographic but I managed to get to 100+ chapters while ignoring the things I disliked and just enjoy the hoarding, the battles and the zombies related parts. I gave up around the prison part but maybe I'll finish it someday just to see the ending.

It's alright, it's a very standard levelling up after reincarnating + having space and a big big golden finger novel.

Nothing wrong with it !! I just find it boring because there's nothing much going on? There's not really any ups and downs or climax, it's a very steady walk... not even a climb... the relationships with others (outside of CP) isn't too hot or warm, it's neither here nor there. No one to be particularly attached to, the characters themselves... well.. there's no development there.

I think (personally?) the ML is... more>> the weakest out of the bunch, not in terms of in-story abilities but rather just. He's very.... one note. His entire personality is loving the MC. And there's no going up from there, he's just there to be reliable and love the MC and there's not much else going on. It's forgettable, and the other side characters are also very one-note and not very well-written. I'd comment on how their IQ is lowered, but honestly it's not even that their IQ is lowered and it makes them a character you'd hate/root for-- they're just. All very bland. I don't even care if the MC/ML didn't get to faceslap the villains, at this point I wouldn't even care about them... nor do I care about the MC/ML lol

There's -- nothing wrong with it, lmao. Like if you JUST want to read some zombie apocalypse novel that talks about powering up, base, fighting, hoarding etc. Go ahead 200 chapters of that stuff. But if you're looking for a good story, I'd say maybe... for me, at least, I feel like I had soup that's mostly just water. It was soup, but I ate nothing. I just had alot of water. <<less

While I don't usually leave reviews on novels, I decided to leave one for this.

So I see alot of readers rating this book with 3 stars or less. Now while I CAN understand there remarks, I don't really think its well founded.

If you've read until the end of the book, you'll naturally find alot of small minor issues, just like any book. And as a person who is a feeder off rebirth-revenge ideas, I can tell you now, if thats why you're reading this, don't get you're hopes up.

And no.... more>> This is not a negative comment. I'm just stating a fact. This book isn't a revenge troop. It just gives the idea of the MC taking revenge. He doesn't really get to actually do it due to *cough* circumstances.

But this is actually pretty nice and fun to read.

If you're a lover of fluff, but not too much fluff, and you want to see some action with some very diverse set of characters and no name dodder flowers and cannon fodders, then this book is definitely a must read.

Spoiler

The MC and ML are absolutely perfect and there little dumpling is practically the cutest meatball EVER!!!

[collapse]

This book gives alot of couple intamacy with views of different couples, as well as zombie action (not intimate kind eww) and level (space) upgrades!!! I love this book. Whilst it isn't the greatest out there, its definitely not the worse and can even be classified as one of best apocalypse danmei i've read.

Spoiler

Although, I have to agree with everyone else. The ending..... well, its worth reading and finding out.

[collapse]

Rating this book as a definitely must read until the end!!

(I'd love to give this book a rating of 4.5 stars but I don't kniw how to soo, 4 stars it is) <<less

Even though the novel has a few flaws I decided to give 4 stars.

The reason for that is that it is a very refreshing (and calm?) story. The main characters do not show off and try to stay under the radar. The MC does not seek revenge, but acts when he's provoked.

Spoiler

The bad guys die nevertheless, but just because of their own arrogant personality teaching us (in my opinion) that someone evil or coldhearted will often fail exactly because of those flaws.

[collapse]

Another point I want to mention is that I never NEVER read novels where the MC is the gong/seme, but this one actually managed to fascinate me. Their relationship gets established reasonably and is very respectful. There are a lot of cute moments.

Now there are a lot of people who compared it with, , The Reborn Otaku's Code of practise for the Apocalypse". I won't say much about it, just that TROCOPFTA quickly became too stretched out and boring for me while this novel had the perfect balance of action + fluff + information.

There are two points which bugged me a bit. One is the ending which was much more reasonable than in some other apocalytic books but

Spoiler

I still wanna know why the sun suddenly came out. ;-; And honestly the author made EVERY ENEMY of the MC die accidentally. The cousin was attacked, Allen poisoned, The zombie king died by plant. I mentioned before that this can be nice, yes. But you know, I thought they would at least fight SOMEONE, like the zombie king. ;-; It did not bother me that much though.

[collapse]

And the second point I have is the slight mysogyny I noticed.
Spoiler

Look, I noticed that both genders had cannon fodder characters in it. It's just that there were much more men than women in the novel cause, , Apocalyse" and stuff. And almost all of those women were shown to be s*upid and arrogant and characters who would throw themselves on men. What I mean is - apart from the old wife of one of the team members on MC side EVERY WOMEN was like that. Even if the author's argument is like: Women weak, have periods, all die" I still found it annoying that apparently every women left had no pride or intelligence.

But yeah I thought: Okay, this is not the only bl novel where I noticed this. It is not thaaat bad, so let's just ignore it.

Well, at the point where they visited the prison base it became too much. When the team is about to leave, it's described how a lot of women throw themselves on the team members to go with them (in return for s*xual pleasures). The team is then praised because of how they refused that temptation and yep, leave them all there where they die of course.

You see, first I could argue that those women... at that time in the apocalypse must have already experienced a lot of nasty and terrifying things. I mean, they were probably used to the fact that no men would bring them cause they are women if they don't look attractive in some other way. I could say that, but this is not even my biggest critique point. There was just no woman who went: Hey, I have an ability and I'd like to follow you. They were all just shown as useless people which the author often describes them as. Even the water ability users in Allen's team - they were always mentioned in connection with hooking up with him. The author seems to have a problem with capable or confident women since all women in his novel have to be s*upid and loud and those, , who have a bit of ability are arrogant and make s*upid mistakes and can't be left alone or in an important position" was the vibe I got. That disgusted me a little.

[collapse]

Other than that, I really liked the novel. ^^I'm giving it so many stars because the negative points are easy to ignore since they don't play a big role in the novel. Would recommend. (: <<less

It's rare for me to read a book without skimming/skipping and this did it for me. I liked that it was consistent from beginning to end and didn't go on weird tangents. I liked that the author chose not to be melodramatic about relationships, whether love, friendship, or enmity. I love the ending that makes you imagine a sequel, but don't actually want a sequel. In my opinion, this book is a perfect mixture of romance, friendship, cultivation, comedy, drama, and survival.

Not bad, peaceful read.

Your standard leveling up/hoarding/invisible-undetectable-OP-alternate-space-with-farming-fields post-apocalypse novel with zombies and ability users.

ML and MC are basically the strongest people in the world. They spend their days goofing off or hoarding tons and tons of quality stuff. Idk if the author has a kink for hoarding or something... but most of the items they grab or hoard never gets mentioned or used again, unfortunately.

Similar vibe to "The Reborn Otaku's Code of Practice for the Apocalypse" but arguably, I liked the other one better since the MC was not OP... more>> strong and the farming/hoarding aspect was done a lot more creatively?

A lot more loose ends in this one

Spoiler

for example, Tuanzi's final evolution or even existence is never explained.

Or the cultivation stuff in the bracelet/space, or why their space is different from the other spaces.

[collapse]

Also has same issues as other post-apoc novels from CN

Spoiler

all the women (legit every woman except the one sentence in the epilogue) is shown as idiotic, s*upid, weak, incapable, narrowminded, criminal etc. basically not a single positive female character.

Translation was great, smooth and enjoyable. <<less

5/5 I actually read this from other source, but since it was properly translated, the rating should be accurate.

This novel is very much to my liking. 🥰 It's sweet, fluffy and entertaining. The pace and the storytelling is relaxing, but not as uneventful as some other Slice of Life novels (oops).

like many of the previous reviews said, it's true that the protagonists are always hoarding things, and they don't really care about other survivors. However, I don't think this is a problem at all, you can't expect the selfless saint... more>> in the apocalyptic era anyway, right? They are good enough for not inflicting any (direct) harm to others, nor snatching things. What they did, although selfish, make sense to me, so I have no complaint.
Spoiler

although it's indeed awkward seeing them keeping all the good things to themselves, despite the people of other teams are clearly good people, It's their choice anyway. Them extending the helping hands when necessary is good enough.

[collapse]
On the other hand, this novel can be retitled as "a honeymoon trip in the apocalypse world of Fang Hao". 😂 The main cp is very sweet and into each other. No matter what the circumstance, they are always showing off their love, spreading dog food.

The only thing I don't like is probably the ending. The ending is such a disappointment. 🤦‍♀️ Why is it so sudden? And why does it end in such a strange way? <<less

It’s really good but at the second to the last chapter, when it seemed like it was the beginning of the “closing chapters”, the final battle ended perfunctorily and the next (and last) chapter was a summary of how Humanity (and the CP) continued to live.
The way the last battle ended, I could have accepted if it had a bit more to dramatise how they survived the siege, at least more than just a few sentences. It was very “prepare for the worst” then in the sentence “it’s all... more>> good because of very timely luck” (and by luck I mean, the author just shoved it in).

The way this ended was very aggravating, kind of like just when the conclusion was coming together, the author suddenly dropped the story and gave a bullet point just to wash their hands off of it.
(Seriously, I cl**ked the “next chapter” button then get smacked with “this is the last chapter” and end up wondering where the rest of the ending went)

So my rating for the story before the last two chapters is 5 ⭐️ but because of the last chapter, I’m subtracting 1 star.
(I MTLed it so there’s no translation to make up for the last star) <<less

hmmm. That Dumpling ... more>>
Spoiler

seems to bear a direct resemblance to a certain Meat Bun from Half Prince (Yu Wo, written in 2005-ish). I imagine it will be calling the ML 'Mama' before too much longer but he wasn't talking as of c53.

[collapse]

From the summery, I was expecting a little revenge-oriented action, some dogsblood, and lots of face slapping but so far its been disappointingly lacking in all of those departments. What we get is farming, finding supplies, organizing supplies, and occasionally playing house. Rinse and repeat, with the occasional zombie stomping thrown in.

the MC is the pampering type who called the ML his "little fool" and pats his head like the good little boy he is.
Spoiler

they get together quite early so there isn't even the dramatic tension from an unsure relationship to fall back on. Both of them are OP for various reasons and up until I quit reading, they easily overcome everything that comes at them with a wack or two, so the action scenes don't have much excitement or suspense to them.

[collapse]

maybe all face slapping and tension happens in the second half of the story?? As for me, something happened that rarely occurs mid-story; I got bored. I'll give it a try again once the translations are further along, but so far I liked Reborn Otaku much better than this one. <<less

I am a little so so on this one. The Otaku's Rebirth story by the same author is one of my favorite slice of life/apocalypse stories. However this one fell short.

The main character has such a "gold finger" that you never feel like he is in any danger or that anything will go wrong at any time. The relationship develops and is a done deal in the first few chapters, so no excitement there either. The villains drop dead without the MC doing much about it, so once again nothing... more>> all that exciting.

So all in all it does not keep the reader engaged. That being said it is still entertaining enough if you are in the mood for this kind of book and have nothing else to read. <<less

This is a good hoarding story, but the romance is extremely bland.

You can enjoy the story well enough if you’re a fan of the genre. The villains refreshingly implode themselves without much face slapping or revenge by the hands of protagonists, the side characters are good, yet the romantic aspect is not fulfilling and written quite boringly.

Its a good past time novel but not that impressive. It has a better story line and progression compared to the other apocalyptic one that the author wrote but when it comes to ending, this one sucks. It gets really boring over time because it focuz too much on both ML & MC that the world building starts to crumble. It's fine to focus on main characters but other factors can't be ignored especially in this apocalypse type story where the world itself is involved in the story.

They can be... more>> selfish all they want to sustain their livelihood but for a story to read as an entertainment, I want them to get involved with others. Not to the point that they'll save everyone, but to form a stronger bond with their friends and not be caught up with their own space. Because if they are being like this, it is better to just simply live inside the space and not to come out. <<less

At this point, I'm awaiting 1 last chapter. This was a pretty enjoyable read. It's super light, with a good portion of fluff. This novel deviated form the usual reborn tropes, with not as much face slapping as I assumed, with the original 'villains' demise having nothing to do with the MC!

That being said, ... more>>

All in all, a better read than I expected, as I went in initially wanting to take a breather from a much heavier novel (Card Room). I love the MC's relationship (it's pretty much dual pov's, or rather, 3rd person- sometimes?) They are both strong, and totally devoted to each other. ML somehow lacks his own agency at times though.

why do authors absolutely insist on assigning heteronormative roles to GAY couples? Is it that they think we won't know which person is which if one is not referred to as the mom or wife? Or we won't accept their relationship without having a totally delineated, typically bi-gendered roles for each individual? I really don't get it. They are MEN and I personally get a bit of a fujishi thrill whenever I read about the 'husband and husband' or pair husbands, or the MC and his husband, especially since it's so rare. Isn't that what we're all here for anyway? Sigh. Rant complete.

3.5 stars for now, but I have a feeling the ending will be rushed and being down the rating. Mtl'd the last chapter. Other reviews are right, ending was definitely rushed.
Spoiler

how did the battle end? The sun came out, the sun came out. So the zombies are like vampires who were scared of the sun. And the zombie king baby, ppfftt. I think he got eaten by a plant? Sigh. Author could have used3-5 more chapters instead of condensing everything into 1 chapter, but alas, it is what it is

Final rating: 3.25 stars. Quick, enjoyable read with no super annoying characters, ok plot, and meh ending <<less

My first impression - "It's one of those, huh".

Yet another farming simulator with no plot or characters, fully concentrated on routine.

Oh well, at least I've found a bunch of ideas what to cook for dinner)

I read this entire novel on the original website using google translate. Overall it is a good read but I hate the ending. It is just too................................... SERIOUSLY!!!!! After reading the whole story I just want another 2-3 chapters explaining what actually happens post-apocalypse. I do not think that is too much to ask. I can definitely see that the author went in a slightly different direction in comparison to their reborn otaku in the apocalypse novel. This story has elements that the other novel was missing but I prefer... more>> their earlier work. <<less
