She properly held onto the star spoon and became the No.1 Ranker

She is Korea’s first S-rank Awakened, and ranked third in the world’s rankings,

-Where is Korea’s first place?

-Nobody knows, or has seen them

-They’re so mysterious– you hear that?

‘This is already the third time. f*ck…’

Towers, cracks, dungeons, whatever

My mother would angrily stop my cell phone services, so I would have to go around asking for the wi-fi password wherever I went

[The rankings have been updated] [Gyeon Jioh’s current domestic ranking is 2nd place] Huh…? Have I become a kongline now?

Covenant unni, I thought you said you’d only let me walk on flowery paths

[Your covenant admires your shameless personality]

“Zio. You’re still living like a couch potato.”
“Woah. What’s with the bone-breaking fact?”

From the villain who dreams of the world’s destruction.

“Help me”
“Salvation is achieved by oneself. Salvation is achieved by oneself.”
“Please! I know who you are, the magician king”

Even to the regressed super rookie who looks so much like the main character of a modern fantasy novel.

I have to defend this comfortable, lazy sloppy lifestyle from those around me who are trying to prey it away!

I'm trying to be as not spoiler-y in my non spoilers stuff as much I can, but still, beware of it. Also I'm using the names I got from MTLing the whole novel 💀💀 so they might be different from Fox' translations.

The thing with novels where the MC is OP, you either get a face slapping novel (aka one where the MC shows off their powers after being underestimated and probably because their hiding it) or one where the main focus is on the characters' stories and growth.

How does... more>> one write an interesting novel if the MC is already able to no effort K.O everyone around them? Angst.

Of course you still get a novel where there's not that much tension in terms of action, but the character writing- I'd rate it 10/10- more than makes up for it.

The depth in each character-

Spoiler

Zio with her lazy attitude but silent protection of Korea, Bambi who loves his sister like her other half but also worries everyday for when his sisters' powers consumes her, Guemhee with her inferiority complex but love and gratefulness for her sister, Do-hyun with his self righteous nature but also hypocrisy for his first love, The reader of fates' comedic antics but deep down craziness and possessiveness over Zio, or even Kiddo's villainous actions but he was trying to save the world in the way he knew after repeated regressions. Heck, pretty much all the local S classes in Korea all had their stories told, plus a lot of the side characters if not all of them.

[collapse]
Of course, just because the MC is OP doesn't mean the world relies on her to save them. Quite a lot of the time, side characters get their time to shine, and Zio only comes to save them when the situation is dire- she isn't a Mary Sue enough to be in multiple locations at once, nor is she an expert at everything (although she IS a magic genius and thus innovative and great at mathematical calculations as a result)

I also like how there isn't so much "evil" side characters (either their background chars or from the Liberation Army Kido leads). Like it doesn't go the stereotypical association creates child solders way when Zio awakened as S class as an elementary student. Nor have the High rankers be power hungry or corrupt. The American high ranker in, I think, 1st place at the start of the story, Timothy, is an absolute angel. You can really see that one of the main themes of the story is responsibility. All the characters have relationships with each other and its not just focused on the MC- Bambis relationships with his guild members, Zio with the White Tiger Guild, Kiddo and Timothy, Geumhee and her friend, White Bird and David Choi, Tiger and Grandpa, or that one cute side couple between the puppeteer and the king of I forgot but it was probably middle eastern country

and man. The foreshadowing

Spoiler

"The Rankers Guide to an Ordinarily Life" a story that seemingly tells the POV of the most powerful person in the world trying to hide her abilities and live normally, but actually is a story of an attempt at trying to find a world where Zio actually lives past the age of 20. Where she, who first was shown as a lazy person, doesn't die because of her sacrificial, practically suicidal nature.

[collapse]

if you think it's like ORV or TGCF, yes I can see the resemblance. But really, the only meaningful similarity between them is the characters devotion to MC. I can see why- Zios as equally protective over those she considers friends and family.

Spoiler

haha the war arc really. Really hurt. Back Dohyun you s*upid regressor. And Zio who couldn't accept his death, I hate you for making me have a heart attack for the sacrificial choice you chose

[collapse]

Thankfully it's a HE or I would've hunted the author down and sued them for my therapy. Highly recommend if your looking for a dungeon/tower novel/manhwa that focuses on character writing and world building.

Spoiler

Also, beware of second male lead syndrome. Her love interests are practically having a competition over who's the most crazy about her. Twilight, you poor fella, that alladin carpet scene was cute but the others pretty much chose her over the world. But Reader of Fate won in the end because man really reset the world more than ten thousand times 💀💀💀 those poor Babel admins and watchmen.

It’s been a while since I laugh about a novel, she’s so cute and funny, I live her rebel personality.

Her constellation is one of the best character honestly

Spoiler

he’s like an overprotective mother, but it seems like her past life was his lover?I don’t know, it appears to be so at least

[collapse]

the biggest problem in her life are the college exams... and her mother lol

definitely a must read

This novel is really good at balancing seriousness and comedic relief. The story is easy to follow and I just love how zio lives rent free in everyone's minds

Zio is my favorite type of MC: lazy, loves to eat, and is super OP but not attention seeking like shounen MCs. She literally gets stronger just by existing. She's so confident (obviously since she's a top ranker), but she's not annoying like every other righteous shounen MC.

it's safe to say that this is now my favorite novel at the moment,... more>> looking forward to more chapters <<less

thanks author, now I need therapy

Spoiler

all the characters are very charming and the comedy part is amazing, as well as the plot that started to shine through starting after the 39th floor arc. Hwanghon is my favourite because hes a dumbass himbo

all the characters have their flaws and story, so you can understand why they act as they do and when you've finished season 1 of the novel (167 chapters I think), you can truly see all the foreshadowing from the beginning, especially the male lead (aka reader of fate)

as of where I am right now, it seems like its going to be a tragic ending but I think there's more chances of a happy ending because there are going to be a lot of extra chapters after the end (in around 7~8 chapters)

the author said it was a sitcom type novel and they LIED because I cried so much during reader of fate and zio's past lives, at eun seokwon's death, at the extras where it showed how zio lived with eun seokwon after her father died and her mother started avoiding her, how jirok felt about it all and geumhee's struggles with her family and inferiority complex

By this point in the story I'm very pleased with this webnovel. While the translation could use some work, the author tends to use a lot of Korean pop culture references and internet slang which understandably makes translating it difficult.

The general world setting depicted in the story is a mixture of the common "gate", "dungeon", "tower", and "apocalypse" tropes we've seen countless times by now in mainstream Korean webnovels. How the author uses the setting honestly isn't that new or unique but they do nicely show the reader bits and... more>> pieces of their world building in entertaining ways. Here the author has added a chat-like feature where awakened individuals can communicate with those of similar rank both domestically and globally. It gives the reader a neat little look into the world around the main character, reactions to events in the story, and a small community around the main character so that they aren't totally isolated. While it's not unique I particularly liked how they handled that aspect of the story.

The MC is the real draw of this story. Normally I hate stories where a character is granted OP power and then sits there doing nothing with it. You see a lot of those types of stories in the isekai genre and they generally aren't enjoyable to read without strong character-building. Thankfully there are plenty of strongly defined characters in this story, not just the MC. The MC, Zio, is funny and endearing in how cat-like she is and by the end of the first arc you might (like me) have the startling realization that she's wormed her way into your heart.

Zio, or Jo as her alias is known, is a character who is set on being unnoticed and living a normal life despite her great power and kingly disposition. Unlike characters who have this type of trope however she isn't a pushover and strongly follows her own desires. She is lazy, gluttonous, a bit of a troll, and capricious but also a dutiful daughter who cares deeply for her family and those she has a responsibility for. By the end of the first arc you'll have an understanding of why she is trying to live a normal life. She is a character suffering from great trauma and chained down by a promise to her mother she is trying to keep no matter what.

Despite all of this Jo is a seriously cool character and it's really interesting to read about her struggles and how everyone around her reacts to her antics. <<less

Frankly, I think the writing is all over the place. The author tends to ramble off, explaining one thing in a paragraph, and the next paragraph, they're explaining another entirely different thing that wasn't connected to the last paragraph. The consistency is a bit off. Reading this was mildly difficult since I couldn't let my imagination run smoothly as I go because I have to reread a sentence to better understand it sometimes.

There's too many references too. Referencing things is a two-edged sword-- it could make the reader understand better... more>> on what the character on screen is talking about only IF the reader knew about the reference in the first place. The translations... needs more work, but I know that translator-nim is doing their very best, and I am very grateful for it (which was why I rated 5*, or even rated this early). Also I think it's because translator-nim is reading the novel as they translate that they get confused and have to make revisions.

The plot is mostly solid and the world building is introduced in snippets or word vomits. I can't say more of it yet since it's still the early chapters. The MC (Zio) is not the type of character I like (personal preference) but she is a breath of fresh air; she is flawed and perfect, and her personality makes her more realistic than some 1D MCs I've come across but will not mention. I'm sure she will get her own character development, and I am hoping that the supporting cast (that have been introduced) will as well and were not just introduced just to make Zio look good. I am also excited about the ML (with his non-stop simping).

I have high hopes for this novel. Zio reminds me so much of Han Sooyoung (from ORV) and the star (his title handle at least) reminds me of Kim Dokja. Short bob hair cut? Check. Selfish and narcissistic personality? Check. Hoodies? Check. Cute? Check. Black Dragon? Check. She irritated me at first too, but like a barnacle, she attached herself in my heart and now I think of her very fondly. I hope Zio would be like that too. I'm pretty sure the author was inspired by ORV tho.

Spoiler

There's a regressor (Baek Do-Hyun) and am glad he's only semi-like Yoo Joonghyuk. His title [Protagonist of a Ruined World] is very similar (if not, exactly the same) to Yoo Joonghyuk's and he's actually nice and all about justice like Jung Heewon. Zio's Librarization skill reminds me of Kim Dokja's inner library too.

I love this story: MC’s cat like impression and everyone else’s succumbing to her cuteness like the regressor, her siblings etc
Thanks to the translators for the frequent updates <3

I'm going to preface this by saying that whatever your initial impression of this novel is- it's probably wrong. The story starts out with a laid back OP protagonist who does what she wants, kind of like cat. Most of the first story arc comes off as a comedic slice of life power fantasy, as you learn and get attached to the various characters. But every once in a while you see cracks, you see bits and pieces of the broken people that lie beneath the surface, and it hints... more>> at the tragedy in the making. All and all, it's a great story that sucks you in but beware if you can't deal with emotional heavy stuff.

As an aside, the current translation is pretty rough and littered with references to things that if you don't have context for in (mostly Korean pop internet culture) it will make very little sense. <<less

So far I'm really liking it. MC is OP from when she was a kid and literally gets stronger just by breathing (as her brother puts it) lol. Haven't had a lot of fight scenes yet and MC isn't really actively fighting the tower but I think that she soon will according to a spoiler I read. There seems to be a lot of interesting characters as well. The plot for now seems vague for me, the antagonist of the story hasn't really shown themselves at this point yet. As... more>> the title suggests, the #1 ranker wants to live an ordinary life despite having extraordinary skills. I think perhaps something huge will happen and threaten her ordinary life and she'll be forced to fight against it. There's a character who is a regressor as well and that person seems to know the dangers that will soon threaten the world. It's also been implied/foreshadowed that the MC might have been someone great in the past and has been reincarnated or something like that. MC's relationship with her contractor was probably deep in that past life. MC is shown as a really cute cat-like person that most people like and is treated like a king. MC acts like a king too lol. It's an interesting read for me. ^^ <<less

I'll avoid talking about the story for now because as much as it gets hype it gets equally depressing, so I'll stick to what eased my heart in the beginning and kept me going in this novel. This is one of those type of stories with mainly comedy, but when sh*t hit the fan, it hit really hard. I just love the Gyeon siblings so much (Zio, Ji-Rok, Geum-hee), Tiger being their nanny/parent, Zio being... Zio, Jo-eon being Jo's fanatic and Baek-hoo a reliable butler... as well as the other... more>> non- and top rankers interactions. Zio's personality was the most fun thing to me, although more complicated than what it appears.

Spoiler

Zio is a ridiculous monster and a free standing ruler, she is not a good person, but she is not bad, you can see as you read how she is someone who knew how to hide for more than a decade ever since little as if it was her lifeline, basically despite her nonchalant yet wild personality, status, and how she is a bad liar, she went to great lengths to protect her comfort (almost lunacy. The reason is explained in chaps 10-15, but it's related to her mother) while under the protection of her grandpa, the title is basically it, be it suppressing power (best at it), human interactions (threatening and avoiding), "Zio was a bystander who pursued non-violence, but the path of absolute was the path of absolute", if there's a threat she won't hesitate, it's scary but fun to us readers. You can see her identity will not be easily in danger just for nothing unless she let down her guard which cannot be really blamed when it happens (comedy gold). Despite being carefree and lazy, she has this tyrannical, cold, temperamental and indifferent side with her kingly nature, and caring almost paranoid side when it comes to her mother (to Zio = owner) and little bro (=mother's son) and sis.

What I like is that the country never relied on her alone as their powerhouse, it treats the fact how a single person can never solve everything themselves, like the Lion, a first generation awakener and a veteran who was always on the frontline, a hunter who would fight disasters in front. The grandpa whom the already childish Zio act more childish toward, or rather awkward facing his pampering which makes her like a rebellious grand child. Yet she still intervenes when situations were hopeless (aka to zio like opening a can of soda) and when she judged necessary, her appearance in itself was a salvation as the first S rank will allow others to be born bringing hope, so no matter the character, she always was acknowledged as a hero.

Some of her unique titles as hunter are literally : "lazy", "immature", "tyrant". While Rok (little bro) is the crazy deer/Bambi, She is the crazy cat, someone you find so adorable despite their shamelessness, extrem nonchalance and laziness (like siblings, regressor (aka butler) and the poor souls who are stuck as her friends because they'd known her since kindergarten), and the way they show love : bluntly and reluctantly, depending on the people they include in their socially withdrawn closed off "circle". Her interactions with her family is specially funny to see. And the most important, knows how to flaunt and flex whenever she can, after all, again, she is a ridiculous monster, a king was a king even if they were indolent and indifferent, even if they found it bothersome or annoying they have no reason to dislike popularity or acting strong, and her character development was my favourite thing in this story.
