The Precious Sister of The Villainous Grand Duke

Reborn as a sister of a villain with no blood or tears in a war-fiction novel.

Anyway, that guy, who plays ‘my brother’ role, is a villain who will be sealed by the Main Lead after losing the war. So I just need to pretend to be his little sister until he disappears.

No, at least that’s how I think …

‘Something in your right hand, is that the main lead’s head?’

My brother won the war.

***

“What’s with the suitcase?”

“Yes?”

At the tip of Dietrich’s long finger, there was a package that I had wrapped up as soon as he left for the battlefield.

“I asked what it is.”

“It’s, It’s a travel bag, brother.”

“Travel? Alone?”

Dietrich’s dark eyes glistened. The man who had just returned from victory had a strange smell of blood from mu*der.

“Will you leave me?”

My gash, this wasn't the greatest translations at first, but at least it was readable. Now it just went to sh*t. Legit, the person posting chapter 25 and upward is just reposting MTL without even trying to make sense of the sentences. Like, bro, don't post if you're gonna sh*t on the work

It's alright. Much of the typical KR webnovel criticisms, including the fact that she's way too intelligent for a one-year-old and two-year-old and the fact nobody thinks anything of it is ridiculous. I am glad that she isn't able to speak totally fluently immediately though, like in Lady Baby, because that's honestly just absurd. It's still too much however.

At least compared to many of the other ones that I've read, this translation is more understandable.

I'm not gonna sh*t talk the later translator, unfortunately he's not a native English speaker (like my self) and it's the first translation he's ever done, and seems to be the only translator that has picked up the novel.

As people have mentioned, indeed, it doesn't look like he's translating or editing anything, but I've seen direct MTL'd works and this ain't it, there is definitely an effort on putting things in a way that makes sense, but the problem comes from the fact that the translation is very rough, the... more>> translator may be editing the MTL'd pieces and doesn't check anything, IE: they keep calling the ML "confuscious" which is a bad translation for "lord" or some noble title (I'm not a translator, it's just what I've read from people that ARE translators say can happen sometimes)

So yeah, after the chapter I'm currently at, c24, nothing makes sense, Translator needs help, and fast because I saw people dropped this like a hot kettle because of it.

Regarding the novel, well, it's just your cutesy child acting like someone older being sweet and cute among mu*derous people and winning the heart of the ML who is her "brother"

The plot is a rehash of all those stories, what is very interesting in this novel isn't that, it's the world building and the tone, there are enough twists and turns within the setting that it's interesting in it's own right because of it.

I was genuinely intrigued by the world where Demons and Holy beings exist and have a purpose other than being a backdrop for the main elements, the Author haves some nifty ideas in there with a future dread established from the start and a plot that keeps things interesting besides just following the "not a child" character.

Unfortunately when the second translator appeared, all that is lost because the only things you can fathom behind the rough translation is just the interactions between character... not even that, because it's super confusing at times.

So, no stars, just... hope the translation gets better because it doesn't work right now. <<less

I’m dropping. I don’t understand anything anymore. It was already hard to understand at the beginning but now everything hardly makes sense anymore.

The story follows the FL, who transmigrated as a baby who was kidnapped from the Euclid family to be raised in the La Grange family (enemy families). However, the woman who kidnapped her died, so everyone thinks she really is a La Grange child. In this family, there are a lot of children who battle and kill among themselves so they can be the next Duke, but as the FL knows that it'll be her brother who will win the competition, she tries to ingratiate herself to him as a... more>> means to survive.

It's a historical setting with magic: the FL can read and influence people's aura and the brother (presumably the ML) can manipulate shadows and control a demon king. I liked the twist of magic, it's quite interesting and, so far, well done.

In stories such as these and considering how the FL acts, even though it's not stated by the author, I'd rather think she is a baby who remembers her past life. It makes the story much more enjoyable for me so maybe it's worth a try. Alissa is a cute child and tries to do her best with what she got.

So, yeah, I'm liking it so far. At the moment, Alissa is still a baby (3yo - c24) and it's quite enjoyable to read as she and Deitrich are bonding, little by little. I can't wait for her to grow up tho lol

Many thanks to the translator for their hard work! <<less

Reviews about the bad translation are out of date. A new group picked this up and re-did from chapter 24 onward.

I started reading the novel after I discovered the manhwa. I love this story! The characters are complex and the plot is interesting. There is no defined “good vs evil, ” just a lot of people doing their best to survive the terrible situations and brainwashing they’ve had forced on them. It’s a romance, so obviously some cliche tropes here and there (but I love all of those, too ✨).

I... more>> hope the translation team continues to the end! 💖 <<less

The new translations by the group Lagrange is much better. This story has been made into a Web comic version 😀 Very nice art, but the novel flows a lot better later on. For some reason the later chapters of the manga just feels rushed and it gets harder to understand what's happening but the details are all covered in the novel.

I like the story but the "baby talk" is quite excessive. A five year old child typically won't have such excessive lisping and mispronunciation. I look forward to the... more>> time skip. <<less

Listen. I respect the hard work people put into translating and posting web novels, even when it’s MTL and what they do is read through it, adjust things to make it make sense and post. I really do. The first TL was good (at least from what I remember, it was readable and it was easy to understand what was going on).

But then the first TL stopped translating this (no hate on them, whatever reason is understandable), and this current TL took over, and now this is actually incomprehensible. Like,... more>> put into MTL, copy and paste levels of incomprehensible. I honestly don’t think this should be up on NU at this point, and I honestly mean no offense to the translator, but I seriously don’t understand what I’m reading anymore, I can’t follow what’s going on or who’s talking to who.

There are inconsistencies in character name translations (Anissa sometimes becomes Ah Nissa, Anit, etc).

Sometimes you can’t tell who’s doing what because the subject is wrong, or seems to at least make absolutely no sense in the context of the sentence.

Sometimes things made sense, but I think my mind is becoming accustomed to fixing sentences as I read them as if I’m my own MTL lol.

Again, current translator, if you’re reading this I really want you to know that this isn’t a jab at you. I know how hard it is to translate, and I definitely know how hard it is to translate from your third language to your second language, and I really appreciate the genuine effort you make every time to upload something for other people who can’t translate on their own (be it through MTL or otherwise), but the chapters you’ve been uploading are really hard to understand.

As for the novel itself:

From a certain point, I couldn’t really tell what was going on, but since the manhwa’s sort of caught up to where I am right now I’ll give a quick review.

This is a reincarnated isekai’d little girl trying to be liked by her brother to avoid certain death type of story. The main character, Anissa, doesn’t put all of her hopes in her older brother Dietrich, but also plans on running away once she’s older. The story starts when she’s a baby, and at ch. 50 or so she’s still a young child (though I don’t remember how old she is specifically).

The plot aside from that is very interesting in my opinion:

Spoiler

Anissa lives in a ducal house called Lagrange, and inside it there is an ongoing brutal succession war. The duke has many concubines and many children, and the children basically have to choose if they will go on the path to try and become a successor, and possibly lose their lives, or anyone close to them, or if they will choose to not participate in the succession war and doom themselves to subpar living conditions, which include poverty, malnutrition, and ridicule.

Children who do participate in the succession war are also categorized by their families, into separate palaces. The favorite top candidates live in luxury, while candidates who are being kept in check, such as Dietrich, still live in pretty bad conditions.

The top candidates have a demon they’ve contracted with, in exchange for a Price. I think the price is a human life; either the contractor’s or a precious person to the contractor, but I’m not sure.

The “winner” or the succession war must go through one final trial to finally inherit the title as the head of the house, and that is to sacrifice your most precious thing.

I think this set up is super interesting, and this isn’t even a very good explanation of it.

[collapse]

more spoilers but plot wise and not

Spoiler

Dietrich’s initial plan was to pretend his sister, Anissa, is precious to him, and to sacrifice her.

He started by making sure she wouldn’t die, as in she’ll not starve to death or be killed by others in the succession war.

Dietrich has had his emotions nearly completely muddled by his contract demon, Baal, which is why Anissa who can see people’s auras and their emotions in their auras, can never tell what he’s thinking or how he feels about her.

As Anissa tries to get closer to him, she somewhat manages to break through and get to him, and she is important to him and it scares him- because she shouldn’t be. So he tries to distance himself from her, but it doesn’t seem to be working too well so far because though he appears with her less often, he seems to care for her more deeply.

I really love the emotional angst in this, since it’s not too heavy most of the time and I love the trope of isekai’d sibling desperately vying for their sibling’s affection.

Also. I really, really hope he’s not going to be a male lead. These two actually grew up as siblings.

[collapse]

So all in all, I really like the novel and the manhwa for this. The translation isn’t very good, so I’d recommend not reading the TL and just going for the manhwa as it’s translated better. <<less

The story sounds interesting. It'll be nice to not see the previous ML jump in between the MC and this story ML. Story translated is short for now but looking forward to it. The translation is a bit shaky based on how to format sentences but its not unreadable. I did not expect it to start with her being a baby. So its truly a do over. I like the idea and will come back when there are more chappies

This is just my assumption but I think the story will... more>> be a slow grind with how the story begins. But this is just my guess so I could be wrong <<less

8/10.

Personal Thoughts:

The story itself is intriguing. But, it's your average run-of-the-mill story where the FL tries to survive in a twisted household. Yet it is very cute. We watch as the children grow, develop relationships, and discover emotions. All the while learning what it means to treasure someone. (That last statement was more directed to the ML but whatever.)

The plot does happen to lose speed and becomes (somewhat) slow as the story continues. But, it helps our lead develop her relationships. Anyways, I look forward to the novel's progress... more>> and suggest you give it a read.

____

Criticisms (Maybe)

1 - I would note that the quality of translation drops at chapter 24, the picks back (kind of) up again around chapter 30. Until then, the story does become hard to understand. But props to the translator for their hard work!

2 - Our FL, Anissa, does not become a child prodigy, nor is she fluent in speech at the ripe old age of 10 months. She is not a Mary Sue. While she may have powers, she's not going to be able to take over the world (sad for me as well) ! I find her character refreshing, a reminder that her character is a toddler. The balance between her inner maturity and outside appearance is perfect (for me, at least).

But I digress, overall the story is interesting. <<less

The main character is a little difficult for me to swallow. This is one of the novels where the protag becomes a baby, and even though its repeatedly stated that shes in her twenties (or was) she acts really immaturely, like shes actually a child. I found this pretty weird and it made it difficult to read, but I'm holding out hope for when she gets older.

I gave up at 31. The initial transactions through c25 were readable. It wasn't great but it was readable. After that point, nothing makes sense. It almost seems like they took the raw, ran it through Google translate, and didn't do any research for word structuring and editing.

The novel itself seems like it could have been really enjoyable. Hopefully it gets picked up by another translator at some point.

It was a painful read because of the translations. It's such a pity because the premise of the story was intriguing and I had a hunch that it would have been a pleasant reading experience if only it had decent translations. Still, I appreciate and commend their efforts.

Just my two cents though, it would be better to practice translating first than adopting a project because other experienced translators would hesitate picking up a project that others are working on already, regardless of the quality, because that would be considered rude... more>> and sniping projects just isn't right. That's all. <<less

I read this before but stopped for a while because I got really into a different genre of webnovel, but I think it says a lot about the quality that I managed to remember a lot about the story even after not touching it for several months.

The plot itself is pretty standard, but it's the writing that keeps it entertaining. The FL transmigrates as a baby with all her adult knowledge, but she acts more like a real child (in an entertaining way, not the annoying way). I snorted the... more>> first time the FL decides she needs to save up her baby milk and bring it to the ML since noone is feeding him. There's also a very fascinating background world, more like the kind of worldbuilding you'd see in an RPG-based novel than in the usual romance webnovel.

The story gets a lil blander and more cliche when Anissa gets better at her purifying and it pretty much turns into a standard OP FL story, and I'm lowkey really disappointed we didn't get more Dietrich POV chapters there since it looked like there was some real intense plot going on in the background. Still, by that point I was interested enough in the characters that I kept reading on.

On the note of TLs,

Spoiler

it does get confusing. The early chapters linked here by Ohsimiku were understandable but really in need of an editor to clean it up. The ones linked by Love Warning Kiss and The Lagrange are better in quality, but do some questionable "Fate-universe naming scheme" stuff which gets very confusing. Like, I'm not sure why Janine got turned into Jenin, and Anissa's kid talk, which was still pretty consistent in quality in the early chapters, jumps around in quality in the later TL. Also the chapters are identical, including the changed names, so I'm not sure if these 2 are actually the same TLer publishing on different sites.

Also, I'm not sure why the webnovel is listed on the new site as "She's Not My Sister You Fool". Did the author change the title? It seems too different to just be a different translation.

[collapse]

(btw, if you enjoy the webnovel and how good the wordbuilding is, I don't suggest reading the manhwa because it has a very different vibe and generally just seems to grab random contextless scenes from the book while also introducing some mostly visual plot holes. It's cute on it's own, but it really falls short of the quality of the wn)

Overall this is one of my favorite webnovels, and I'm grateful for the TLer because I probably wouldn't have read the raws since MTLing Korean is hard. <<less

The story was good until it got picked up by the new translator. It would have been better if you don't have to spend 20mins reading a chapter trying to figure out what exactly everyone was saying. I'm hoping someone picks it up that can better translate it but I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Sigh.
