Ling Xiao was secretly in love with a girl named Mo Qi; because of an accident, they both crossed into the ancient times.

Mo Qi who was preinstalled with the Mary Sue halo, in these ancient times, walked to the summit with a golden finger.

However, Ling Xiao continued to be exploited by Mo Qi.

After he no longer had any values to exploit, he soon became a pitiful cannon fodder.

The heavens decided to take pity on Ling Xiao.

And gave Ling Xiao an opportunity for rebirth.

After rebirth, he vowed that all his enemies would repay him with a debt of blood!

However, why have all these enemies of his, fallen into the mode of cutting their heads open?

“Hey, are you really that unremarkable person who used to follow behind Mo Qi?”

“So this dance was originally danced by you, sigh……”

“You are obviously a man, yet you move me so much.”

“Enough! Since you have taken the initiative to provoke me, then you must concentrate on me!”

Ling Xiao expressed: If you want to counterattack, then counterattack. As long as your golden finger is bigger than Mo Qi’s.

But how did Mo Qi’s Mary Sue halo end up in his body! He is still a straight man who likes beauties! He definitely, definitely doesn’t want to turn bent!

Ooh, okay. So I read this, like a week ago, but remember it fairly well. Honestly? I really liked it all so much. If it weren't for the way Xiao Lizhi acted and was treated later in the novel, I would give it, like 5/5 stars. Because I loved how ML in the last life was all about our MC instead of the Mo Qi. But actually, I didn't like the way ML f*cking hurt MC in the second to last chapter or credit or whatever. Actually, that last chapter f*cking ruined it for me and I was goddamn pissed. I'm goddamned pissed now. They had such a good mostly-healthy relationship and then it was f*cking ruined. So neverf*cking mind, actually

[collapse]

- so, it was pretty good, but a few parts felt repetitive
Spoiler

(w/ Mo Qi)

- I loved the ML and MC's relationship. UNTIL:

- DON'T READ LAST COUPLE CHAPTERS!! It's total BS and I got pissed. ML gets f!cking violent with MC, ruining their relationship which was pretty healthy. Of course it was only ruined in my mind not the bood, but if you don't wanna see that shit, just know that the ML disbands the imperial harem blah blah whatevs.

-Like it was an amazing book and I read it and pacing was pretty awesome, and then the bi!tch of an author ruined it. Like, F u, too.
SO< read it, but avoid the last few chapters and u'll be ok.

F!ck you, too, author.

There isn't many BL novel with a good plot, most of them are about some s&m sort of relationship, or some weak man who can't do anything on his own and needs the other, or sometimes it's about s*upid misunderstandings that drags on for the entire book.

After I read heaven officials blessing and grand master of demonic cultivation, I couldn't find anything else that I liked. But I enjoyed this one it's not as good as the novels I just mentioned but it's good enough for me, at least it... more>> has a plot, after ML and MC got together the first time, I thought the rest of the novel would be about nothing, but I was completely surprised. Last few chapters are not really necessary but the rest is good.

MC isn't strong physically but he is smart and capable, he is very afraid of the ML at the beginning but after a while he gets more comfortable, and even initiates s*x himself.

ML is strong and smart, he can be very cruel which isn't surprising considering the fact that he is an emperor. He is very demanding and he gets jealous over everything, but he is also very devoted and does everything for his love. <<less

Coming to review after reading the full translations by Snowy Codex.

What to say... how to say...

This is a revenge novel filled with palace drama. On one hand, the MC really sets out what he wants to do - get revenge for himself after being mu*dered by someone he trusted and love. On another hand, the feeling of it being like a soap opera drama, one thing after another with the MC having the halo and attracting other Leads’ attention, makes it feel like too much for me.

It seems like the... more>> author is trying to show what happens when you forcefully park a male lead into a palace drama who attracts the Emperor’s attention and have him show off his stuff with lots of events and potential male leads (but unfortunately not) being thrown at him.

I love the start. But towards the end, I started just to speed read just to get it completed.

Unfortunately giving this a 3.5 for me <<less

If ML was real, he would have suffered in my hands sooner or later.

MC was too obedient, in my opinion.

3 stars are only for the satisfying face slapping. ;)

The other reviews have already pointed out many things about this novel, so I'll only add to that.

I'm not actually sure what the author attempted to do with this novel, aside from the obvious face-slapping. It failed to be a lighthearted romcom, a shameless p*rny wish-fulfillment novel, or a self-aware story of relationships with extreme power imbalances. It seemed to take elements of all of these in a hodgepodge, directionless manner. However, it was entertaining... If you don't mind unadressed dubious s*xual consent. The r*pe tag is present for a... more>> reason, and if you're expecting the MC to at least try to talk about it, you will be sorely disappointed. <<less

story started out fairly good, face-slapping was nice, but honestly I never really got to that part where MC and ML gradually trusted each other and MC stopped fearing him. It just went from 0 - 100 right off the bat. I guess this would be kind of a more realistic? Emperor ML??

Spoiler

MC was just very afraid of him, and then they had s*x and all of a sudden MC couldn't stop being h**ny around ML whenever he gets kissed. Which, honestly, isn't that bad, but it does nothing to the plot and this was still at a point where MC was pissing his pants in fear whenever ML was nearby and angry. You don't really get a sense of companionship up until the very end, and even then, ML literally choked MC out for wanting a friend and talking back against him.

the author made it so that in the end, ML disbanded the harem - his source of power in the country - for MC, and I think this was supposed to be romantic, but with how ML tried to kill MC moments prior and then tossed him aside to ignore him for more than a week, it doesn't really translate. Mind you, this is also in the very last chapter of the entire story, making the resolution incredibly abrupt, and MC had to threaten to kill himself for ML to come visit him in a hurry. Idk, if I was MC, I would not stay with a man that made me feel threatened at all, especially not one that would only guilt trip me into apologizing for my mistakes first and foremost.

[collapse]

if you're interested, i'd recommend this novel just for the experience, but know that the big baddie mo qi really isn't who you're supposed to be focused on - it's gonna revolve around MC and how he traverses ML's bad moods equipped with the knowledge he has of ML from his past life, as well as the incredibly rocky landscape that makes up MC and ML's love life. Honestly, with how they treat each other, I think it's best that they're together so they don't bring their toxic personalities into other people's lives.

i gave this novel 4 stars, 2 stars for the translator snowy who also translates heroic death system which is one of my all-time faves, and 2 stars for the entertaining plot, despite the entire novel being a slow train wreck and becoming a case study of top red flags to watch out for in a real relationship. <<less

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!! I FINISHED THIS IN ONE DAY!!

I really love the emperor (ML) !! He is exactly the kind of emperor that I want to read in novels like this. He takes no bullsh*t, not even from the MC. He does adore the MC but I like that the author made him always self aware that he a the ruler first. Very attractive ML 😍😍😍

Speaking of MC, not gonna lie I didn't like him at first. He's quest for vengeance makes him really hard to like. But as... more>> the story progresses you kind od understand him a but especially taking into consideration the environment he is in, the people around him and the reason for his first death. But I think the author did this intentionally? So if you're not really used to reading unkind MCs then I don't think you would like this.

Plotwise however it's amazing. Not gonna expound so I won't spoil anything.

The translation? Very good!! They did an amazing job!

I'll definitely be rereading this! <<less

I tried to get into this but the story was just kinda... dumb. Not very well written and MC himself isn't a likable character. If MC was truly smart, the author wouldn't need to outright say "he was smart." Other reviewers said that the beginning of the story was good. Well if the beginning of this story is considered good, then I definitely don't want to slog through the rest.

I happened to take a peek at the last 10 chapters and it was real meh, nothing revolutionary.

I feel disappointed. The beginning you can even give a chance, afters the middle is just a roller coaster of disgrace. MC annoys the hell out of me, I don't really have any problems with the ML. Their relationship is just so frustrating, even in the end seems like they are put together just because it was the planning, but to be honest MC create a better relationship with the other character that a forgot the name.

In the end this novel taste just like deception and sadness would taste.

started off really good, but the ending was really unfulfilling... I understand that ML is an emperor and he is all great and having a harem and being all powerful is normal in the past, but to me as a modern day person, it's really a turn off. emperor, even after falling in love and getting together with ling xiao still does pretty questionable stuff that would be inexcusable in present-day

overall pretty good bc of ling xiao's OP-ness in the first few chapters, but I really dislike the ML, maybe... more>> it's just not my cup of tea. reminds me of the emperor in yanxi palace (who I really hate until today zz) <<less

The first half is excellent. The second half is a let down.

MC is someone who has observed the emperor's (ML) in his previous life. He knows his likes and dislikes and uses this knowledge to get the emperor's favor. The twist is that the emperor wants him to become a male concubine when he is supposed to be a eunuch......

The villainess ends up like those undying antagonists. It got very draggy. The romance between the MC and ML took too long to resolve. MC ends up like a Gary Stu... more>> with the foreign prince and the general all falling for him. This novel would have been much better with some editing in the 2nd half.

Overall, a good read. <<less

I cannot overstate how disappointed I am in this novel.

It started off fairly strong- lots of complex characters, lots of scheming, little twists and turns, good one liners. I was fairly pleased with it as a whole.

Then, the novel's main character just becomes suddenly irrational and illogical- a complete opposite of his personality. He makes the same mistake over and over again. It becomes tiresome.

I'd say, if you absolutely must read this novel, brace yourself for bitter disappointment. Or read up to C45-50ish.

and wth is with the side love interests? They were unique and complex. I really don't like how the author suddenly cut them out of the novel. Frankly, they both treated the MC a heck of a lot better than the emperor did. I was extremely uncomfortable with how r*pe and attempted mu*der was disregarded and accepted. As well as the constant manipulation. Very clearly not a healthy relationship, yet it is celebrated as one. <<less

I give this 4/5, maybe 3.5/5. It starts out with an interesting premise, and I love the way the MC goes about inadvertently enticing the ML. However, one thing I find annoying is that MC seems to suddenly become *s*upid* like in the last 1/3 of the novel. He's supposedly so intelligent, yet once he falls in love, he forgets something so basic - [slight spoiler]:

Spoiler

The ML prizes honesty and openness above all. The ML is so OP that he can see through the ML supposedly. I get that the MC has secrets that he is too scared to share for fear of death, but so much unnecessary drama and even fear could have been avoided if he had just been open and honest with the ML to begin with. Also MC knows the ML is easily jealous and very possessive, yet he goes and talks to his other "harem" members all the time and even has ambiguous interactions which he could have clarified with the ML.

[collapse]

So there is definitely a Gary-Sue feeling to this and the ML becomes s*upid, dim witted, and naive surprisingly somewhere in the second half of the novel. Otherwise, it's a decent read. <<less

this review have a lot of spoilers, so you been warn. I can't talk about this withot any spoilers XD

I just finished reading it without any stop, I just love the main MC and ML so much!! The plots and schemes the MC and ML use not only on each other but also on the world around them was an amazing thing to read and watch and very fun to me. I really recommend this to anyone to read.

while I seen others feel that the... more>> MC become a girl in the end, if I am honest, I didn't felt he was like a girl at all. I actually love his change and how more honest and more trusting he becomes, the change was the greatest! It was a change that was worth it to wait since both the MC and ML could not trust anyone at first and play political games with people. In the end, those games can be very annoying and very harmful if you on guard with everyone around you all the time and I"m soo happy the MC could give his full trust to someone in the end after been betrayal in such a cruel way.

has for the one-sided love interest prince Fu Yujun, his arc was too long! 5-6 chapters are too much!! Really?! Those chapter's could have build the ML and develop him instead of wasting it on a side character that the MC will never see again. It feels like a waste and I didn't care about him or his pain like other readers seem to be, it was very clear the MC never loved him that way. He is not better than the ML, he did kidnap the MC and try to force a marriage on him in 3 days just so the MC won't come back to the ML. That what you called "trust"? Okay.

I wish there was more extra to build the ML character more, but well that what we get so I don't mind. I actually don't pity Fu Yujun at all, to me it was a happy ending for him to move on from one-sided love, that started has one-sided and the end has one-sided. The MC never felt any romantic feelings for him and there is no need to force him to feel them. I wish Lan Wei and Fu Yujun would have become a couple, they much more fitting to each other in my eyes then the MC and the prince that only see him has a girl. Lan Wei was actually the one who helped the prince to raise up to his build his kingdom again, which I love that moment!

I also love the author for bringing the subject of the haram side of china and show how everyone in the world view haram for political use that should not be broken. To us it may seem like a horrible thing and common to only marry one person, but in the past, it was common and very essential to kings and empires to have haram of girls. So I like the touch and conflict it brought and show how much the ML truly loves the MC with actions to go that far against the world and his world value's he grow up on and break them for our MC. Has for the suffocation part, well it was in a moment that wasn't that good for both of them since he really thought the MC cheat on him with the girl. So I see it has another big fight they had like they had when both of them try to poison each other. Both have different reasons to act harsh and horrible, and both of them should not do it to each other or others, but they still love each other and their love is much stronger so again, I didn't mind.

has for people calling the MC s*upid toward the end, I will say the ML also becomes very s*upid for him even before the end. Like they say, even the most calculated and smart person in the world will become dumb and act s*upid when falling in love, no matter if it a man or women, love will blind you and make you do s*upid things. And I will dare say the ML becomes very dumb and s*upid for his MC, and that what so great about it.

to sum it up I really really love this novel!

If you're looking for an ML that is likable and charming, go find another story, because this sure ain't it, sis.

In the beginning, the Emperor seems good enough, he acts like a true admirable no-nonsense Monarch deserving of the crown. Things go downhill after MC runs away to the neighboring kingdom with Second Lead.

I have to say, I like SL better, he's devoted and actually poses romantic feelings to MC, in fact, he's the only romantic thing in this story. MC and ML's relationship just feels like a subject marrying... more>> his monarch because he is the monarch. SL might seem like a typical scummy character, but holy shit, he's the only character with good dimesnsion and depth, he has more impetus and character than the MC and ML combined.

What turns me off the most is how the author pulled a Helen of Troy, in which MC is the willing and happy Helen and SL is a competent Paris who actually is deserving to be Emperor in hos own right.

Just to get MC back, ML pulls strings and creates a civil war, killing thousands of soldiers and ruining the capital. When MC ruins his plan by helping SL win the civil war, he then decides to wage war between kingdoms and claim the country as his vassal. Yep, that's right, he waged a war for a dick.

As for MC, he was pretty pitiful while we was in ML's kingdom. All his revenge and schemes were really just making him miserable, and his time with SL is the only time he was actually free, both from being a servant and mobility.

Honestly, this is the only time a danmei gave me second lead syndrome. I was more invested in SL than the main pair. <<less

if you like an MC who is a literal b*tch, this is for you.

now don't get me wrong, Ling Xiao.. Is a bad b*tch, , like the great kind of b*tch! The kind of bit*h you would wholeheartedly support! A bit*h with a success story! I loved him!

i loved how crafty he was, how he showed his intelligence in getting his revenge! And boy, was that a satisfying revenge!

loved everything! Loved how he threaded on his path of vengeance, everything he did was hella brutal and satisfying. (Did I... more>> already say, very satisfying?) borderline cruel for modern times, but you cant help but smile with him whenever he coldly smiles at his every victory!

laughed at how the emperor fancied him at first, and how the emperor was another smartass, too. Loved their tug-of-war of being the smarter person throughout the novel. Emperor really out there trynna be a good husband and literally spoiling his wife rotten lolol

however, as much as this story started out good and really snatched my heart, , how do I explain this, the quality deteriorated for me? The MC was a cruel, lovable bit*h you would support but towards the end (last 15 chapters?) I thought he became too whiny, overbearing and spoiled lolol he was a personification of stereotypical overly jealous concubines of the past xD ML also made me want to smack him in the head sometimes xD

also the ending could definitely be better, , ,

but still, it was a very fun read for me! I haven't seen an MC as crafty and witty as him, who is both kind and cruel, and I liked him for it. Really loved reading this and is my current fave from all the novels ive read thus far (cough, which is only 3 novels--)

idk may edit this review once I reread loool but yea, for me with complicated standards, its the first novel im actually looking forward to reread! <<less

Am I the only one thinking that MC underwent personality change after the Shou Kingdom arc? I almost described him as woman in many occasions (its not about the bedroom scene, but how he acts everyday).

Anyway the plot development is great, but by the end of it I kinda thought that this kind of story development is better for hetero couple

The translator is amazing, very fluent translation. Even though the unedited chapters are not listed here, the translator has finished the novel + epilogue so go ahead and read it.

I have mixed feelings about this one. The MC starts as an eunuch in the palace and the ML is the super OP emperor who absolutely hates being lied to or tricked. On one hand, the MC's single-minded goal for revenge, cleverness, and ruthlessness were all major pluses in my book. On the other hand, the author is a bit hypocritical,... more>> with the MC not acting much better than any of the other people who lied to the emperor, but he's the only one who's given extra chances time and time again.
Spoiler

The lies pile on top of each other and drag on, and while I think the author used this point to show us how the emperor views the MC so differently from other people, it definitely got frustrating after awhile.

[collapse]

I typically don't like imperial harem stuff, but I enjoyed the palace politics in this one; they were neither overly dramatic nor boring. More of a slice-of-life with a dash of power struggle. It's really interesting to have the story told from a eunuch's POV since they're allowed to go everywhere instead of your typical concubine (stuck in courtyard waiting for emperor).

Spoiler

Though the later part, that's pretty much what happens...

[collapse]

The ending is pretty idealized and made me feel a bit better about the MC and ML's unequal power balance. In the world building, the author also created an interesting custom of having male concubine/male imperial consorts be common practice.

Spoiler

Though it was really hypocritical of the author to write that the emperor thought "men and women equal" and then have the world setting be that only male concubines were allowed to hold titles/participate in court. In traditional history, frequently, no matter how powerful a concubine/empress/empress dowager is, it's against the rules for them to participate or influence court politics (they can only influence harem politics). It can be said that even if there was a male concubine, it should still be against the rules to take an official position and influence the court. But with the author's twist in the setting, we have an obvious bias that men are better than women and the MC is given an official title/salary etc. Furthermore, when the emperor sees how useful the MC's future knowledge is during war, he thinks to himself that the MC didn't deserve to be locked up in the harem. So does that mean all those hundreds of women in history who were intelligent and capable "deserved" to be locked up in the harem? Coming from the same emperor who apparently thought "men and women were equal" this kind of clueless hypocrisy from the author got a bit annoying.
