An entomologist’s soul transmigrates into a cultivation world, inhabiting the body of a small, obscure cultivator who specializes in insect manipulation. Reborn, he desires only to avoid conflict and quietly develop in a mortal village.

Inspired by the “Sun-Moon Heart Sutra,” he creates his own “Ten Absolute Scripture.” Inspired by the “Nine Deaths Divine Art,” he devises the “Purgatory True Demon Technique.” Moved by the “Eternal Life Sutra.” he extrapolates it into a hundred layers.

With boundless creativity, extraordinary insight, and unlimited time, he pioneers new techniques, pill formulas, artifact designs, array formations, gu recipes, poison concoctions, and brewing methods—all entirely of his own invention.

While others cultivate paths of slaughter, he alone forges and cultivates the path of self creation.

Honestly, I thought this was a very fun novel, it delivered what I expected of it and that was just having a nice fun ride while time is passing, I got what I expected from the title as well as the synopsis.

Spoiler

As for the story, I really liked the main character, he was as cautious as he could possibly be, but also doesn't get too coward when it comes to improving his own power and does take some risk here and there and what I mostly enjoyed was creation process of him developing various techniques, formations, Gu insects, etc. The story for the most part is slice of life but it also doesn't get boring because of some conflict occuring every so often. And speaking of characters, there are not that many but those that we do encounter do stay in story until even after 100 or so chapters. I don't have many cons actually after all I did go into this novel expecting some dumb fun adventure which I honestly got, anyone that has extra large expectations of this should just read the title lol

This is your typical overpowered cheat transmigration Xanxia novel. The MC is your typical paranoid Chinese and Anime loving shut-in. His plot armor is ridiculous with the world handling him everything he needs through shear impossible chances. He never struggles in the story. All the cultivators of this world are all dumb as a rock so our “Average” intelligence MC is shown to be a super genius in comparison.

This is more of a feel good, self pleasuring Xanxia story. If you are bored or stressed out in life because nothing... more>> goes your way, give this a read. You’d wish people in reality is just as dumb and you’d have a reality bending golden finger too. <<less

This isn't very good. It's not terrible, either.

I won't continue it because it has one of my biggest pet peeves: idiot MC. One example: he creates a forbidden technique that uses his lifespan to damage opponents... The kicker? Too many of his attacks are just explosions without any finesse, so his forbidden, life-saving technique will also kill him and it's incredibly inefficient.

Likewise, he keeps telling himself that he likes safety... in reality, he's a coward. I appreciate safety-focused MCs. However, they know when to act to defend that safety. The... more>> MC does not. He'll be under siege and still hold back, nevermind that he let an opponent who he could beat get away after having seen some of his valuable trump cards.

He will tell himself, oh, "I should do this thing for my safety, " and then waste a year gardening, instead of working on bettering his formation or creating a movement technique, which thrice has proved necessary up to where I read. Or he will tell himself that he's a defense fanatic... but it's been 75 chapters and still no water bear Gu. Instead, he relies on fate to plop some tardigrades in his lap. He is almost a puppet to his luck, which I abhore.

Basically, this is an okay brainless read, but don't expect anything great. <<less

Spoiler

The novel focuses heavily on the technical, research, resources gathering and so on. So expect a lot of info dumps. The plot is simple, and really lacking action. 200ch and I think the MC fights less than five times. He just keeps getting stronger and do all this and that, developing this and that, but rarely fights. Which brings another problem. The titular "water bear" plays barely any part. As soon as the MC created it it's forgotten, as does the wine gu, and the dragon gu, and the formations and the shitload of other things the MC and author talked and wrote about for tens of chapters, all of them forgotten and rarely mentioned ever again, because the MC and author are too busy working on the next formation, or techniques, or gus, which I assumed will also be forgotten soon after completion.

The novel is basically a huge pile of info dump disguising as a cultivation novel. Which is a shame since the author can writes and creates good characters. Barely any arrogant young masters, or bullies from the same clan. Almost everyone from the clan were very nice can be considered good guys, except for one traitor which was swiftly punished.

If you like long winded "technical" novel which detailed the MC efforts in getting stronger without actually using his strength and barely any plot, well then this novel is for you. For those who like more action oriented, fast-paced novels, or novels with a lot of twists and turns, perhaps even mystery and suspense, then this one is definitely not for you.

Honestly, this guy has my favorite cheat I've ever seen.

It has a few main functions.

"Know how far along something is."

... more>> "Know whether or not something exists in something"

"Know whether or not something that doesn't always succeed will succeed"

and the one that makes it absolutely amazing: "Write down random BS until the progress bar hits 100% to invent things" - Honestly, his cheat has WAY too much potential, and it's kind of sad that as a cultivation novel protag, he's fairly limited in ways to use it - Science is rarely a notable aspect, and Cultivator Alchemists are way less "creative" so to speak than your more traditional western fantasy alchemists. - The potential this cheat could have for a science or western alchemist type of character would honestly be absolutely absurd. (Not that it isn't still absolutely absurd. It definitely is.)

This guy's cheat is seriously like 11/10 as far as cheats go. Because it basically just makes him OP in a completely fair and earned way, rather than just being like "and now my realm increases by a full stage from walking through a doorway! woo!" or "I randomly took someone in as a disciple and became a master swordsman overnight!"

...I will say, there's some points where the MC is shown to have... way too much random knowledge (like when he's brainstorming for light abilities in an early chapter, he somehow seems to literally have the contents of a modern day "Conceptual physics and theories of the mechanics of light" textbook in his head...), so if that's a turn off for you, be aware of that. (I know I've seen this as a fairly common complaint before.)

As far as the actual story goes, the other reviews do a pretty good job of covering things. Yeah, our MC is dumb at times, though it's not like that's a rare thing in novels, especially Isekais. Yeah, there's little action... but honestly, I find that way more realistic than most cultivation stories - Why are all these people that are trying to become immortals constantly fighting and killing each other over the dumbest things? It never makes sense. "Ah, yes, I'm going to risk my next 200, 000 years of life because this guy outbid me in an auction for a sword." - Yeah, no, there's no explanation for those types of plots that will ever make sense.

This is more along the lines of a slice of life type of Xianxia series, which IS a legitimate sub-genre. I've read quite a few series in it, and they're all generally like this - Less action, more personal relationships and technique learning, research, practice, etc.

Also a reminder that this is, at the end of the day, a Chinese Cultivation Novel - A reminder that Martial peak has literally over 6, 000 chapters. It's entirely normal for things in these series to go unused for hundreds of chapters - there were definitely things in Fated Villain that the MC got in the first arc or 2 that didn't actually become plot relevant until like chapter 400+, this series will likely be very similar, because pretty much all of them are.

Overall, aside from the absolutely terrible layout of patreon as a platform for translations (... reading this series on mobile is a legitimate pain, as you basically have to keep 2 tabs open to go to the next chapter, which is way more annoying on mobile), this series is quite enjoyable for what it is, just... be aware of what it is. This isn't your typical action packed "slap all the arrogant people" type of Xianxia. It's a slower paced, more slice of life type of series, about a guy who has a very interesting cheat trying to use it to become immortal and live a good isekai life. <<less

The MC is a like a protagonist of an horror movie, Not because the plotline is scary but because the brain frequency of MC closely match with an horror protagonist, he knew from experience how much trouble that friend of his that keep saying 100% safe yet only for it to become a 100% danger, his friend even stated in their last adventure to a ruin that even though that their will be no death at ruin their will be a high amount of danger, did he even realise that... more>> even if theirs no instantaneous death, he could just have a severe injury that will eat his life outside the vicinity of the ruin or he could even get disabilities instead such as becoming lame or vegetable for life, In the end he did get a life threatening injury which is soul injury but no worries because at the same time he got it he also got a soul repairing pill recipe from his enemies what a coincidence if only he know how to be careful and cautious then he would not have to show his trumpcards to other peoples and also if he only know how to be patience he would not even in that situation, the always say he is cautious yet only to appear a coward at first his cheat is heaven defying but after some chapters that cheat downgraded, he can still do what he can at first but at slower speed and more restraints manner, the most ridiculous part of this is the longevity gu that the MC created and given to the clan which popularise it a longevity gu that can increase the Lifespan and yet no one kidnapped the MC with so many gu, concoction and technology he created no one thought of kidnapping him and reading his soul excluding the ghost gu king which is the cheat code of one guy which also forgotten by the MC even though it endangered his life if that was not a clone, The MC is just damn lucky but most of those luck are nullify because of his dumbness, why don't he just find a way to upgrade his existing contract instead of finding more and creating more gu, The snake gu is literally gone the water bear only appear twice or thrice from when its created to 290+ ch, the tianmeng dragon silkworm just became a normal thread provider the roach which is popular at first lose its values the long clan he join are also ungrateful piece of sh*t after he donated a lot Techniques, technology and assistance to them he is still force to do their mission which is literally a death sentence most of the time and the reason they've never made fuse with the MC sending his clones is because his clones are indistinguishable from the real one and also possess strength, Even if he don't possess a clone he would be still send to battlefield of profit that is a fact, The top grade gu become so common in the story that having a low grade gu is being a beggar the MC thoughts is also all over the place his cheat is also irregular sometimes is not need that much of thoughts he just need to focus for some years and done he has a Formation that has 1800 intent even though he never felt it or experience it then sometimes his cheat is too limited that he need to look at other gu for reference, he is also very much a dog licker to his wife who has taken his v*rginity and when together with the only head he have is his lower hal

The MC is like the protagonist of a horror movie, not because the plotline is scary, but because the brain frequency of the MC closely matches that of a horror protagonist. He knows from experience how much trouble his friend causes when they keep claiming something is "100% safe, " only for it to turn into 100% danger. His friend even stated during their last adventure to a ruin that while there would be no deaths, there would still be a high amount of danger. Did he even realize that, even without an instantaneous death, he could suffer severe injuries that would endanger his life outside the ruin? Or that he could become disabled, like being lame or vegetative for life? In the end, he did get a life-threatening injury—a soul injury. But no worries, because at the same time, he also received a soul-repairing pill recipe from his enemies. What a coincidence! If only he knew how to be careful and cautious, he wouldn't have had to reveal his trump cards to others. And if only he had been more patient, he wouldn't even have ended up in that situation.

They always say he is cautious, yet he only appears as a coward at first. His cheat is heaven-defying, but after a few chapters, it's downgraded. He can still do what he did at first, but at a slower pace and in a more restricted manner. The most ridiculous part is the longevity Gu that the MC created and gave to the clan, which popularized a longevity Gu that can increase lifespan. Yet, no one thought of kidnapping the MC, despite all the Gu, concoctions, and technology he created. The only exception is the Ghost Gu King, a cheat code of one guy, which the MC has completely forgotten, even though it once endangered his life—if that wasn't a clone.

The MC is just incredibly lucky, but most of that luck is nullified by his own s*upidity. Why doesn't he just find a way to upgrade his existing contract instead of creating more and more Gu? The Snake Gu is literally gone, the Water Bear only appeared two or three times since its creation up until Chapter 260, and the Tianmeng Dragon Silkworm just became a normal thread provider. The Roach, which was popular at first, lost its value. The Long Clan he joined is also ungrateful—they forced him to do their missions, which are often literal death sentences, even though he has contributed so much in terms of techniques, technology, and assistance. And the reason they've never tried to fuse with the MC by sending his clones is because his clones are indistinguishable from the real one and possess strength. Even if he didn't have clones, he'd still be sent to battlefields for profit—that's a fact.

Top-grade Gu have become so common in the story that having a low-grade Gu makes you seem like a beggar. The MC's thoughts are all over the place. His cheat is also inconsistent—sometimes, it doesn't require much thought, and he just needs to focus for a few years to accomplish something, like forming a Formation with 1, 800 intent, even though he never feels or experiences it. Other times, his cheat is so limited that he needs to reference other Gu for guidance. He's also very much a sycophant to his wife, who has taken his v*rginity, and when they're together, the only part of him that's active is his lower half.

After he got out of the last ruin he started to become an adventurer finding resources and travelling outside having more unfortunate events the author literally change the theme into a more common plotline which is the popular repeated plotline of other novels seriously the only reason Im able to endure is because of his little bit of stability left and the fact his cheat is Interesting now its gone the stability is gone the cheatcode is more of an sudden Enlightenment of a scholar child, If you start reading at the chapter where he came into a faraway place you would think is cheatcode is just a sudden enlightenment and he is just a genius Alchemist who is going to be the king of the pirates to protect his village and offend a lot of people for no apparent reason like an Immortal young master and fighting or talking to others for several minutes that last for several chapters <<less
