Very boring read. If you read this, you will find yourself skimming most of time. There is barely any story. The author is mostly describing the MC's day in the market or what food he eat blah blah blah and sht like that. Barely any action happens.

It took a long time for things to get rolling but its looking good so far

I see that many have problems because of the OP MC being slow in his adventure. The story has been slow and some parts feel bland. I believe this is due to the fact that there has been no real end goal besides shin getting back home and even then he has almost zero clues on how to go back as said in the synopsis. There have also been parts that could be more fleshed... more>> out and in detail (blacksmithing I'm looking at you) and parts that could become more interesting or shorter (dialogue could be improved). Character development is a bit slow and you would usually just remember one character outside of Shin's party each volume. I guess you could say Shin's adventure has felt very uneventful since of late. The action has picked up the pace but still hasn't reached up to standards since most of the fighting done feels very mediocre. Fights that should be done very fast due to his OP nature takes too long while fights outside him where fighting should shine the most is glossed over.

I believe the novel is improving however as more characters are getting involved and better developed in the later chapters. Actual plot and not wandering around has been implemented which means actual things an OP MC should do. The world building has given concept on how large the world is. The story usually focuses on one place/kingdom/country per volume. The MC has finally traveled far enough to find actual story points. Shin's party actually feels like a party and are all very enjoyable characters. The romance for the story is slowly making its way but it looks like we have to wait for a bit more volumes. Yuzuha also gets more screen time (yay).

tl;dr

Overall the story is progressing nicely and actually shows a lot of new elements to the world building. I would give it a 4/5 since it is an interesting read but there are some boring parts here and there. It gives a good view at an OP MC if he left for 500 years but does not flesh out enough the really juicy parts in this genre such as the interactions/character depth, backstories (might be used later on) and the action (MC needs to show more ludicrous moves). The story is a bit slow at times but it is still an enjoyable read. <<less

This is a great story of adventure of a great person with great personality and followers going on an adventure in low profile with some spark of romance and revenge.

Compared to most other isekai novel with convoluted with some petty but overpowered MC going on adventure, Shin does give a heroic vibe and his power is not as mindblowing as other isekai MC.

No shitty harem or dense MC or random fan services in this novel. Vast personality of characters and expanding world he encounter. Truly one of the masterpiece of... more>> isekai genre. <<less

One of the better web novel out there. The plot is interesting but it is a little slow paced.
Character development is very good. Side characters are well defined. For those who like an op MC with beautiful side characters then this should be a proper choice. My rating is 4/5 since the releases are damn slow. Otherwise it is a pretty good novel.

This novel is ok. Not good, but not bad either (by no means). If I was to pinpoint why I consider this novel inferior to many other is the genre, it would be because of the lack of the sense of achievement. Why ? Bare with me here.

First of all, this novel is neither here nor there. The MC can't make up his mind about whether he wants to hide his powers or display them. And to be honest it ends up very messy (some consider him strong, some consider... more>> him god-like, some consider him a bit above average etc.). On top of the latter, whenever a character realizes that the MC is strong, it happens very anticlimactically. So far, there was only one scene in which another person realized that the protagonist is a monster in a way that felt enjoyable.

Secondly, side characters are thrown in like we were supposed to know about the all along. There is nothing interesting about their introduction. It just happens. Obviously, the MC knows about the side characters already, but I, as a reader, would love a nice, epic and dramatic introduction instead of "Hi, I'm Jake Jakeson, and I am an important side character.". This obviously does not apply to all of them, but to a good majority.

Lastly, the story is simply badly written. The way in which the events transpire and are chained is kinda clunky.

p.s. Please bare in mind that this is just how I perceived this novel, so give it a try, and you may actually love it, since this is one of the few novels I am really conflicted about... <<less

Typical Japanese LN bullshit. A dense protagonist that bends over backward to be non-confrontational and polite while somehow attracting stereotypical beautiful girls to pine over him in vain, since he'll never return their affections.

There's a rather severe cultural disconnect between what the average Japanese reader and what the average reader anywhere else in the world would find satisfying, and it shows here. This novel isn't good enough to surmount that particular obstacle. This novel is a waste of time for the average English reader, so don't bother. Blah. I wish... more>> I had paid attention to all the negative reviews myself. <<less

At first I really like this novel.

The setting is the most good thing you can get

But as the story progress, I can find many holes, the story getting more bored, another character show up but it doesn't explain the reason why they become evil or something, and how can schnee become most powerful when there are many player from past? Many questions show up and you can explain how and why, and the most irritating is MC too humble at level where you want to kick his ass, just reveal... more>> your identity, what's wrong with it, if you want a peaceful life then just go somewhere remote place and live lovely life with schnee, reveal your identity and evildoers will think twice before trying destroying the world <<less

Well, it has all already been written before. The novel is like watching paint dry. The chapters and volumes are huge but that doesn't mean it is good. Everything meaningful is buried under a huge pile of unimportant garbage that doesn't motivate in the least to read all through it to sort out the little pieces that might be interesting. The plot is totally thinned out into a dilution that no longer has any taste.

I personally don't like that the MC is completely hiding himself but that isn't the reason... more>> why it is bad. It is his totally lack of motivation for... absolutely anything. It is like he is leisurely taking a stroll in practically anything he does. He never does his best nor has he anything against letting himself get bullied by weaklings. He can play the normal adventurer as much as he wants but that is no reason not to at least reproach the people that challenge your pride. But well, he has none..... no motivation, no pride, no reason to fight for, no goal he is fervently pursuing..... he is practically a dead corpse that just hasn't stopped moving yet. Instead of at least presenting a moderate amount of strength to do normal adventure work he rather walks into the woods gathering herbs as the bloodiest of beginners.

Okay, a normal person stranding in an alternative dimension could just stroll around but a story MC has the task and responsibility to entertain an audience. After all, a novel is a piece made for entertainment and Shin and the author are totally not doing it in any form. The fights too are way too long! Like way, way too long! You can just write 'swang left, he swang right and up' a few times before it gets generic! The author still has to learn that nobody likes to READ about long drawn out fights in the details of a grass halm swaying in the corner of some tree!

A fight is only good in an animated sort of entertainment where you can see the movements first hand, inside a written text though you have to make it short, only describe key moments and/or switch scenes to other people in between to not bore your audience with the hundredth sword strike or thousandth kick! I never saw a more boring fight as between Shin and the Werewolf! And it didn't end for a whole volume! After half of enduring it, I just skimped through the huge text amount until it finally ended. I didn't miss ANYTHING of importance.

Also, Shin's behavior just pisses me off! His decision not to play on the big stage of the world on one point, he just has to push his woman onto it as his stand-in! Because he doesn't want the eyes of the people directed at him, he just lets his woman carry all the burdens that come with his deeds. 'It doesn't matter if I actually do anything I will just put it all on Schnee's tab. She is a wonderful donkey to have, to carry the expectations of the whole world that I keep increasing more and more!' That should become really heavy on her.

I am sure she also has things she would rather want to do than just solve about any piss issue the humans can't handle. That's how he manages to not take responsibility for anything and can stay in the shadows for so long only reaping the advantages of being OP without the costs. He can do just whatever he wants and Schnee pays. Shin is a sorry excuse for a man. <<less

The novel is seems to be 20% plot, 20% traveling, and the rest of it combat, harem/romance, or the stereotypical OP MC gets praised schtick. Don't get me wrong, the plot pulls you in (despite MC's plot armor from dumb decisions) but the pacing is ruined by the rest of it.

The traveling part doesn't have that slice-of-life charm and neither is it entertaining or engaging in its own right.

Combat takes very long. That would have been fine if it were engaging but MC is clearly holding himself back so there... more>> isn't much tension. I'm left scanning through the combat parts just to see if there's any plot development stuffed inside like enemies spouting suspicious lines.

The harem/romance part isn't so obvious in the first few volumes because it's still on the everyone is testing/intrigued by the mysterious MC train. But you'll soon realise that a new volume tends to introduce a new female character that has at the minimum some romance-baiting interactions and thoughts. That's not taking into account the two main female characters always traveling with the MC. I don't consider the harem/romance interactions character development because it's very focused on the romance or baiting, as if the characters don't have internal lives beyond their considerations of the MC. Even when there's some world-building done in the conversations, it's usually overshadowed by the character's thoughts about the MC like "whoa his understanding of this shows how impressive he is."

If you need to filter those parts out to get to the plot, it becomes a drag. And that's not counting the miscommunication and plot holes needed to move things:

Spoiler
    • A female character who serves the MC literally says that she didn't have the time to tell MC about the existence of people she knew he'd want to meet even thought they weren't in a rush or anything.
    • For all of MC's OPness and care for others, he takes little effort to monitor and develop better communication methods for the people close to him. That bites him back in the ass all the time and he never learns from it because plot armor saves the day. In particular, volume 7 is filled with kidnappings and he does nothing to prevent more after each instance.
    • Neither does he demonstrate much urgency in rescuing people. Given how OP he is, resting and dawdling can be done after using his OP consumables and saving the day. Yet time after time, plot armor ensures that he arrives before anyone important dies.
    • For all of the MC's intentions to lay low, many characters have repeatedly mentioned that people have noticed or will notice soon anyway. Some MCs lay low to draw out hidden schemes but this MC isn't that type, so it creates the cycle of my previous points, which gets old and frustrating.

On the first volumes it was cool, but after a while the novel has become so stagnant that's painful to read. The MC that could resolve problems easily by removing the limiter on his powers, but chooses not, because of reasons. Thats all just so that the novel can have some suspense caused of chararacters may dieing.

Solid Book. He is actually a mature MC and doesn't make terrible decisions left and right. Also, there is NO HAREMS. I REPEAT, NO HAREMS!!! Thank god for the author doing no harems. So many isekai just go the cliché harem route, and I hate harems, like why can't you just be loyal to one? ... more>>
Spoiler

And not only is it not a harem, but he marries the first love interest (who imo is the best one), and even better, it happens like midway through the series (based on where the books are now) so you get to actually see their married life. Anyone who wished for a Tiera and Schnee three-way harem... Just. Seriously? Like why would you wish for that? Sure Tiera is a good character and may have some feelings for Shin, but she will get over it and Shin only sees her as a friend and as his WIFE's disciple. In the end, Shin is loyal and doesn't have harem and there is very heartwarming relationship between him and Schnee, and Tiera has feelings for Shin, but will get over them.

This is a pretty good novel.... not the greatest but good and I don’t know why it received so many hates.... because the characters are overpowered but chose to stay low profile?? Because the MC has yet to encounter strong monster???.... Meh I bet most of the readers just don’t like how the MC not being famous while having all the resources and strength anyway LOL

The higher you climb the harder you fall. I think it fits this LN perfectly. It was pretty good 'till the end of v3, but up to v8 is just unreadable.

The plot is repetitive as hell and contains a lot of unneeded scenes. One can compress 8 volumes into 2 without any damage to main lines, literally only benefit them. But for no good, here we have same situations and same reactions over and over.

Demigod-like MC has no own will and just follows the event flow. He can't plan things,... more>> he poorly process acquired information and has no strategic thinking you can expect due to backstory. Even his companions appear to be more alive and real then him.

And, as if it was not enough, frequency of poorly motivated or unrealistic actions and dialogs progress exponentially with each volume and hits that level when you find yourself in permanent facepalm state.

Such a good translation for such a meh. <<less

This is one of the very first novels I started reading when the Asian novel bug bit me a few years ago. At the time, I thought it was the best thing ever. Now that I've matured a bit, and having started translating novels myself, I realised that my initial assessment have been rather naive.

Sure, this novel's still a far better than many other game/isekai clones littering the market at the moment. But it also has many Jap LN failings that I've grown to not appreciate. Things like the OP,... more>> seemingly omnipotent MC being a bit, how shall I say this, less than compelling in the "man the eff up" category especially when it comes to relationships and his reasons for not showing off; meandering storyline that takes several chapters to go anywhere; a potential harem that's only designed to frustrate the readers; no actual and tangible threat to MC and his parties; the lack of clear end goal - or at least, the said goal fizzing away into obscurity for more unnecessary side distractions and admittedly effective attempt at cuteness; and those OP abilities that conveniently pop out when they are needed in the progression of the plot... Yep, they are all here.

The translation effort is top-notch, however. You can tell a lot of care have been shown by all those involved in this venture. That alone is worth an extra star in my book.

Currently, I'm this close to dropping this novel and move on. Which is a shame, considering how it got me into this pastime in the first place. If the next arc is unable to hold my interest, then I probably will. <<less

Boring, by-the-numbers, mediocre at absolute best.

Why does the MC have to hide his power? There's no good reason for it in the story, in fact it seems like it would be easier to accomplish his supposed goal of returning to his own world if he just showed who he was and what he could do. The only reason he has to hide is power is because it's the normal, expected thing for OP isekai MC's to do.

Why does the MC have to start over again as a little babby adventurer?... more>> Clearly he's not hard up for money and he could easily learn about the world he's in from less cliche sources. He can even go anywhere he wants, it's not like anyone is in a position to stop him. The only reason to rejoin the adventurer's guild as a newbie is because it's the normal, expected thing for OP isekai MC's to do.

And so on, over and over again. Nothing interesting happens, it's all the same meandering, boring junk you've seen in every other off-the-cuff isekai story ever. It does get two stars out of five for managing to string me along for five volumes, though. <<less

Synopsis: MC is a solo player who defeats the final boss in a fantasy RPG death game to release the players trapped inside with him (think Sword Art Online), but before he can log out he gets sent into the future of the game as if it were the real world and the other players had left. He attempts to investigate what happened and how to get out, while trying to search for any friendly NPCs or other players.

Genre/Features: MC is OP, was the top player of the game, and... more>> now the strongest individual in the new world. He just wants to investigate how to get back, so he keeps a low profile and avoids showing off his power. He starts off with no companions, and does not nation build. There is magic and skill combat involved, plenty of fighting scenes. The slow parts are a bit slice of life. Typical fantasy RPG world with different races. There is some romance, and hints of some harem so far. Issues: The writing has problems with redundancy, relevance, and pacing. An example is the MC will say he is tired in quotation marks, after doing some hard work. The next paragraph will repeat the same exact thing with different variations. Then it will spend a page explaining why he is tired. We know he's tired because he just did a lot of work, why do we need an explanation??? This is like how students fill up space when they can't think of things to write about in essays. The chapters/volumes could probably be reduced in length by 50%. The description of the boss fight at the very beginning is an example of how the combat sometimes feels like reading the instruction manual to a game. There are a lot of slow parts, and the progression is interrupted by miscellaneous events. I don't think the character has found out ANY information of why he's stuck in this world as of V3c4. Some of the dialogue that intend to be emotional or funny feel flat. MC is maximum OP, does not improve or really have any development as a character. EVERY SINGLE TIME a female companion is standing next to him in a public scene, the author ALWAYS EVERY SINGLE TIME talks about how everyone is jealous. EVERY TIME. Please, we get the idea already.

Translation: 3 Commonly find sentences that I need to reread. Occasionally some that I can't understand. But no trouble understanding the gist of those parts.
[[5/5 = Minor spelling and grammar errors. 4/5 = occasional serious grammar errors, may need to reread sentences, but no loss of meaning. 3/5 = common serious grammar errors, some loss of meaning, but no loss of overall story. 2/5 = difficult to read, difficulty understanding parts of scenes. 1/5 entire scenes unreadable.]]

Recommendation: 3 stars. Maybe 2.5
The setting has potential. There are some occasional interesting twists. The relationships between MC and companions can be sweet. However, the issues listed above are serious. Minus 2 stars for all of those issues together. Possibly minus half star for the jealousy trope, because I facepalm when I see it again. Be aware that MC does not do stuff like conquest nor gets spotlight attention.
[[5 star = most readers will enjoy, the rest will probably not think it a waste of time. 4 star = majority of readers will enjoy, but the rest will be hit or miss whether they thought it was worth their time. 3 star = hit or miss on whether a reader will enjoy, hit or miss for whether anyone thought was worth their time. 2 star = a niche audience might enjoy, the rest will probably find it not worth the time. 1 star = even the niche audience may not enjoy.]]

Other Thoughts: Some reviews will label the MC as "wimpy, " but I don't think that word means what they think it means. To me, wimpy means means backing away from necessary conflict or excessive/unreasonable fear. That does not happen to the MC. Think the word they are looking for is "non-aggressive." <<less

It's like SAO, but if Asuna during the game, and Kirito is now in another reality rather than a VR game.

It's not suppose to be a hack-and-slash, action-packed, display of OP-ness of MC, or his cohorts. It's a story-driven narrative, with occasional high level battles. The purpose of the OP-ness was to reduce the need to go to certain battle story tropes, he just kick their asses since he's (and his companions' are) OP.

How do I describe this?... It's like when you're MMORPG character has reached max level, and you're... more>> playing New Game Plus just to enjoy the story of the game, since you we're busy grinding and farming the whole time and never really getting into the lore until now. <<less

*Disclaimer* Don't let any reviews scare you (mine included obviously), I almost missed out on some of my now favorite series due to bad reviews.

Story: 4.5/5

The battles are done well as it is explained in a way where you can see the battles in your head regardless of your imagination levels, and battles like this are part of some of my favorite stories. It is well written from what I can tell but there are some parts where I'm not sure if it is the fault of the translation or... more>> not, but there are cases where characters will make one point and not explain it before moving on to the next. One example being

Spoiler

One of the former NPCs starts by saying "Everything that you heard about High Humans is true" to the other people in Hinomoto but never explains that Shin is one and only that Shin is stronger than Shnee, like it is cool that you are not revealing his identity as he wishes but why did you bring up High Humans in the first place then?

[collapse]

Characters 4/5:
I'm going to go over two of the biggest characters for an example

The MC is actually able to think things through properly, for example, he is the equivalent of a God and while it sounds cool you have to take into account all the annoyances he would have to face if people started worshipping him. Like he is trying to find a way back to his own world but the second the world learns he is there he loses the freedom to do so. The longer he stays under the radar the faster and better he can achieve his goal and how would the world react if he appeared out of nowhere 500 years later and then disappeared again. There is also the fact that to an extent his actions would speak for the other High Humans and the worshipers of the High Humans, anything he does as the Dark Blacksmith affects at least 1000s of people. He also has to be careful with his powers as he could easily wipe a country off the face of the world by mistake and completely alter the environment as a result of battle. A big issue with his development is that 12 volumes in he still can't kick the "This didn't exist in the game" amazement, even Tiera adapted to the abnormalities of Shin quite fast. He is also kind of in denial honestly as he knows full well Marino is dead and she is his main motivation for returning. While at times he may seem edgy it is purely if you don't take the context into account for those actions.

Then there is the girl known as Tiera, she is just odd. She is super strong but purely because she is surrounded by people so much stronger than her she is in denial about her power. She has Analyze so she can see how strong she is compared to everyone else but compares herself to abnormal people only. I also feel she plays a bigger role than she should, her role isn't huge but it feels like more important characters are constantly taking the back seat for her.

To an extent, all major characters have some state of denial.

I think that is about it honestly and in conclusion, a lot of complaints in the other reviews makes me question if they read the novel at all and instead just read the manga because plenty of complaints I'm seeing shouldn't exist in the first place if it was read properly and if you did read it properly, then you are just s*upid, I'm not going to expand much more because of the guidelines but it seems to me some of you guys are just really freaking s*upid. <<less

You will find good in this story, people being amazed by the crazy things the MC does is the best part, it also has the great NPC dynamic like overlord (fewer NPCs and takes longer to meet them)

where it falls apart is the long winded explanations about abilities and the MC figuring out answers to questions and problem no one would ever ask or try, cant tell you how many times I said out load " what? no" an example would be like imagine Goku gives a 10 minute... more>> explanation why he recovered from a super attack and then at the end of that 10 minute word manure he says "and oh yea I took a sensu bean as well".... you would be like, why the f*ck did goku waste our f*cking time explaining that bullsh*t that didnt matter when I ate a sensu bean would explain everything.... that kinda scenario happen in every volume of this story

the author also loves double explaining, when ever you see him learning about past events you might as well skip to the end of the paragraph because he will recap every thing he learned... every f*cking time. But dont worry when ever one of those topics or abilities comes up again later, he will just recap it again.

in later volumes I skipped entire boring dribble chapters and never for an instant didnt know what was going on, some chapter were entirely double explanations of things we already know

Authors, we have played the games, seen the movies and read the books that you pull the majority of your story from.... you dont need to hold our hands <<less
