I did not mind the book at first as I enjoy the books with a more OP main character. But the problem is the book becomes super boring. The author almost never actually writes about what the MC does. He focuses on side characters all the time. I think the main character is only written about for like 100 pages in the book. Every time his sect is in trouble or his enemies are killing the people he cares about the MC just suddenly vanishs for forty or fifty pages.... more>> It became just boring reading tragedy after tragedy and the main character was just absent. He doesn't care about his disciples he doesn't care about his wife or the world he lives in. Actually he doesn't seem to even exist in the story because the author never has him actually in the story. I just gave up as I was interested in what the main character was doing but at around chapter 180 the author seemed to decide he no longer needed a main character. <<less

A hard mid novel. There is nothing remotely interesting to read here. Same old MC being strong and people thinking "so he has hidden this deeply" or "he is this strong", etc. Any combat chapter has about 80 percent comments from random people and 20 percent actual fighting. Also the depth of fights is just an exchange of moves. Whoever has the higher quality of technique will always win. Since our MC has a level of techniques no one else has, he always wins. Fights never become more interesting than... more>> this.

The power scaling is awful and dumb. Author randomly pulls up extremely strong people out of nowhere once MC becomes close to the strongest person in the world. Also any sort of interpersonal relations in this novel are completely spoiled by the system. MC never shows genuine interest in his disciples or even his girlfriends. He does this just to get more rewards from the system and nothing else.

Despite all this it still remains a mid novel that you can waste your time on. The final nail in the coffin for me is that the MC never kills anyone. Like some rando tries to r word his disciples, MC is like I won't kill this mf, instead I will scare him and try to make him turn a new leaf. Some rando tries to kill him multiple times, MC is like nah I won't kill him even if I can do it easily. I will scare him using my super awesome move and leave him so that he can pester me in the future. It will become extremely irritating if you hate this trope. <<less

It was a fun read specially on the first volume. The MC utilizes amd explores the system as much as possible to find exploits and looopholes he can abuse which the system easily patch after doing for some time. The problem is that, there's some inconsistencies when it comes to how the system work.

One more thing to take note is the characters attitude. He's kind of cringey, much like that one from "Eminence in Shadow" but his cringiness comes grom his over bragging and trying to impress women. Despite that,... more>> he's a loving master and a respectable man but is overly protective to those he cared about where just a scratch on his people warrants your death and your whole clan.

When it come to the plot, well, it's kind of weird, specially the power scaling in this world... It means nothing to MC and his people. Also, they said at first that a certain realm haven't been achieved for the past tens of thousands of years and yet when MC reached the realm, they appear left and right. And with thw MC's strength improving, the enemies power scale as well, but they only amount to a finger at most a fist to the MC. <<less

While extraordinarily average overall, it gets there by swinging wildly between being actually prettygood and utter shite.

It's at it's best when just dealing with the actual interactions between the MC and his friends/disciples/love-interests. To be clear, it's still complete junkfood. But it's pretty enjoyable junkfood.

Yet the author refuses to really ever lean into it for long.

... more>> For one, the whole system is built around trying to cheapen those interactions as much as possible. Fortunately it's not that effective, particularly after the start of the story.

But less fortunately, the author refuses to write more than a scant handful of such chapters in a row, even at the best of times. The only saving grace is that the story still returns to at least touch base on this front reasonably frequently.

Because when the story is doing anything else... ugh. You just have to push through and hold your nose for as long as you can. Most of the time something worth reading isn't *too* far away. You might not have the stomach for it today, but maybe in a few days you'll get a little bored and discover you already got through the worst of it.

The fights are the most average thing here, in all the worst ways. They aren't remarkably long, nor mercifully short. The amount of time spent on random people popping up from nowhere, for no reason, just to commit su*cide via MC is... pretty average. It happens regularly, but could be dragged out a lot more. c*ckroach enemies are here too, but again, could be far worse. They're just hideously average, but always looming.

The worst thing is just everything around how the author handles power escalation. It's a hard thing to do, but the author seems to be intentionally doing his best to fail as hard as possible. There are extremely distinct phases where either the MC, or the rest of the world, is powering up *hard*.

When it's the MC's turn, he's the epitome of the standard CN OP Faceslapping MC of Extreme Awesomeness. Sometimes there's a bit of a twist here and there that makes this very particular brand of slap slightly different from whatever you might find in Wuxia Novel #9999, but whatever.

And that phase will continue until the author realizes there's about three old dudes left in the entire story that are substantially stronger than the MC.

Then the author switches to building up power of everybody else. And the author does this by mercilessly cutting down everything he previously built up.

All those things he spend ages talking up as amazing, world-shaking achievements, the likes of which have never been seen before? Yeah those are actually kinda shitty. Maybe they were pretty okay, considering MC was limited by XYZ. But really, that's just normal for those those not limited by XYZ. This will happen, repeatedly, until the MC is sufficiently far back to resume the standard hidden-strength style faceslapping.

And then the cycle repeats.

I thought I was used to authors of those novels spitting on their own words, and shamelessly doing a 180 on whatever they wrote last chapter. I was wrong. This author reaches new heights in this regard. It makes it extremely difficult to care about anything on the power/fighting/etc side of the story.

There's no tension or interest there. Power-ups come and go so easily that they aren't worth remembering. The endless attempts to convince you the latest thing the MC did/got/whatever is the awesomest ever just sound desperate when you know it won't be long before the author comes back to tell you those very same things are meaningless.

The only constant is that the MC will win, hard.

So yeah. Being maybe a little generous, the overall story gets three stars. But don't expect to get a lot of three star chapters out of it. There's some really nice bits, but you gotta shift through a fair bit of sh*t to find em. <<less

You know the formula in these kind of cultivation novel: MC gets transmigrated -> Get a cheat (in form a system) -> Get overpowered etc. 🙄. Yeah, it's the same kind of novel you've read over and over again.

I've read more than 400 chapters so far, the novel's getting kinda stagnant around c300. This novel has some interesting battle scenes and developed characters well, there's a plot and a timeline and you could see the changes and development. However, some of characters that could be consider allies to the MC... more>> got forgotten later on.
Spoiler

There's this one Young Master that the MC's considering taking in, but the time is not right yet (MC's words). He completely disappeared after the big battle with the demons 🤷🏻‍♀️. I like the YM, was bummed out the author forgot about him.

Spoiler

MC gets a bonus Love line system. The same characteristics with the main one, but this one is for women who has a relationship with him. I got so disappointed when this MC's mentality has no guilt whatsoever when he flirts with multiple women when he already has a wife *sigh*.

The author mention nothing abt it and kinda skip over, not letting any of the love interest meet each other. Which was another kind of disappointment.

[collapse]

I dropped when the MC become immortal, same plot, different people. Reading furthermore may hurt my brain lol. The beginning is kind of interesting, but it becomes mainstream after few chapters 🤷🏻‍♀️. <<less
