After she’d threatened the male lead’s father into marriage, I possessed the villainess Evelia. In the original, she was kicked out after bullying the young male lead.

“Let’s break up.”

“…What are you saying?”

“The Duke doesn’t like me either, so I don’t want this marriage.”

I didn’t want to get caught up in the original story so I asked the male lead’s father for a divorce. Except…

“Once we got engaged, you became mine. I won’t break off this marriage.” The man who was supposed to despise me refuses.

“Are you sure you can’t be Ruth’s mom? Is it because you don’t like Ruth?” Even the original male lead cried and begged me to be his mother.

Why the hell is everyone acting like this?

It's a very generic and cliché novel, but in no way is it a copy/paste of others in this genre. It has its own unique and charming moments. I love Ruth and FL and how their relationship develops into a real mother-son bond. I love the character development on FL's part too, where transmigration doesn't miraculously fix her trauma. She's realistic as someone who has been hurt so much yet doesn't want to hurt others in the same way. Her kindness despite her cynical personality in the beginning is what... more>> hooked me to this story, followed by Ruth's desperation for her as his mother. It was heartwarming, sad, and beautiful.

As for Poppopi-chan's review about ML... don't worry

Spoiler

It's true, ML first started to pay attention to FL because her abusive family reminded him of his own sister who was abused to the point she got used to it. He wanted to protect her because he couldn't protect his sister. But it's apparent pretty soon in the story that there was more to it for him. In his dream, he saw his sister with Ruth because he wished she were alive to see her son growing up. But then his sister's face is replaced by FL because subconsciously he had started to see FL as his family and Ruth's mother with himself as Ruth's father. That dream is supposed to be the beginning of his acceptance of FL into his life not something weird like romanticizing FL because he thinks of his sister when he sees her.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Even later when FL asks him if he sees his sister in her, he tells her honestly that it was true in the beginning because of the abuse she suffered but soon after he saw her as her. She was different from his sister and her own person. It's not just his words, even with his actions later on it's clear that he is speaking the truth.

[collapse]

Spoiler

See, as you delve into ML's own abusive past, you see that he had absolutely no one to rely on besides his sister. She was the only compassion he had ever known, so she became the only standard for kindness and warmth in his heart. So, when he met FL and was faced with her own kindness, he subconsciously compared that to his sister. This made him more humane in my eyes and I can understand where he's coming from.

[collapse]

Besides, his character growth later on totally made up for the discomfort one might feel in the beginning reading his pov. He's head over heels for FL. She's his first and only love and there's no one who could replace her in his heart.

So please, give this novel a try if the childcare genre appeals to you. You're sure to enjoy it. <<less

A perfect cliché-plotted novel. I love it!

Cliche plot of a kind stepmother, an easy to misunderstand dad, and cute innocent little kid, but who doesn't love this kind of plot, right?!

Heartwarming, love the characters and how the story goes. Very well written and well translated and it was completely translated. Everythings perfect. Thank you so much for the author and translator team for this novel!

Didn't expect this to be a 5 star...
I come to this site to read cliches. But when I read cliches I expect balance. This story gave 100% satisfaction on that. Seriously, everything was in place. The villains got what they deserved very fairly, the children were protected and FL was reasonable. What can you want more? ML? He is a tired soul but our FL fixed him perfectly.
I should add that this one has just the right amount of FL harming. I love it.
Entered the favorites list. Very re-readable since nothing annoyed me.

I can't say the novel was perfect, but it was precisely the novel I wanted and needed.

The conflicts in this story weren't dragged out, and they were resolved quite neatly and without so much messy drama. It was a quick, feel-good, and light read in the sense that the plot wasn't too thick. So other people might not like it (the world building was lacking, focusing mostly on the main characters' setting without exploring much), but it's a breath of fresh air somehow.

The FL is mature, perceptive, and forward-thinking to... more>> the point where, although physically powerless, she feels almost OP lmao.

Overall, I loved it and the experience I had reading it. Because of the world building I feel less attached to this work than others, but this is the first time I've finished an isekai novel where I'm not emotionally and mentally drained, so cheers to that. <<less

Currently on the part where the ML is 'falling' for the MC.

At first, I really liked it. Ruth is so sweet and adorable. The way he still tries his best to get the MC to be his stepmother despite being rejected a couple of times was so heartwarming. The MC (Evelia) is level-headed, kind, and very empathetic despite being abused and neglected by her family in both of lifetimes. My problem is about the ML. Yeah, he's your standard handsome cold duke who grew up also abused by his father.... more>> But what I felt icky about is how he kept comparing his dead sister to the FL nonstop. How he kept placing his sister's face on top of the FL's. It was uncomfortable reading his earlier POVs since 85% of it was just about his dead sister and how he sees her through the FL. I do understand that the only person he truly cherished and saw as a family was his sister but it felt like I was reading the longing POV of a heart-broken husband instead of a brother. The only reason he started paying attention to the FL was because her injuries from her families abuse reminds him of his sister's injuries. The reason why he didn't want to divorce is because, again, the FL really reminds him of his sister. So reading his POV 'falling' for with the FL is literally just his regrets for sister and that he should do better and make up for it through the FL. He even had dreams of him, his sister and 'his' child* on a sunny field like your typical poster family but then her face is suddenly replaced with the FL's lmaoo.
Spoiler

*since he didn't want to tell Ruth that he was actually just his uncle, and not the dad. He even went as far as to introduce Julia's portrait as Ruth's aunt and not his biological mother (which Im pretty disappointed about since Julia really loved Ruth even before he was born and would definitely be sad if she found out that her brother didn't even let her son recognize her as his mother).

[collapse]
Whenever he describes the FL (until where I left off), it almost always ended with 'like Julia's.' Like "Her smile is like Julia's" or "She's crying. Did Julia also cry like this?". At this point, It feel felt like the reason he fell for the FL is because he projects his dead sister into the FL's instead of actually falling for the FL herself.

I'll put this on-hold for now or just skip the ML's POV and just focus on childcare aspect. Anyway, don't mind my review too much. Personally, it's not my cup of tea (borderline siscon/brocon characters) but you might enjoy it so feel free to give it a read and decide for yourself. <<less
