it is indeed interesting. I read the mtl in one seat. I just can say it is too convenient for the MC but for a fast read it is fun. I can't deny I spill some tears while reading the story that MC write even though I know it did not happened. It's a shame it still ongoing. Will probably come back to finish it when it's completed.

Like the previous reviewer write, Yes the MC transmigrate as the villain. We don't actually know what he did since the author did... more>> not elaborate. But we can just assumed he did so many bad things that people start retaliating against him.

I, myself really enjoy abused backstory and sacrificial story hence why I give this novel a high review

the only downside of it is how repetitive the filler character behavior and it seems like author didn't gave some of the character enough unique personality to feel like a proper character <<less

I don't know. At around chapter 30 right now and it's pretty frustrating to read.

Seems like the biggest enemy isn't really the demon king, but more like the system and sun god supposedly on the side of the MC. The system feels more like a curse than help to be honest. Really seems like the whole world exist for the sole purpose of tormenting the MC. Actually, I'm saying this as half a joke, but wouldn't be surprised if the demon king turns out to be a "good" guy all... more>> along, or a mid-boss and the real last boss is the system/sun god or some weird thing like that.

There are some issues here and there, but the writing is pretty good overall so I don't want to give a bad rating, but this thing is so frustrating to read. If the MC killed himself next chapter, it would feel like an happy ending. <<less

Damn it's awesome. I have no words to describe its Beauty. Man, the plot is so good and is executed perfectly. The author is a damn sad*st man, he makes MC suffer so much. But at the same time he always amazes me by twists and turn. I always wonder now MC is cornered and he brings a way to save him at the last point that does not look like asspull. Story is perfectly executed and if you are going to read it, read atleast 50 chapters before deciding... more>> anything. <<less

So I'm going to say it this is hard to read.

Not because it's bad or because it has cringey moments.

But because of how utterly depressing it is. This is a reincarnated as a villain story but without any of the laughs. He has to be hated, the people he loves have no idea his true goal and hates him for it. The few who do know can't help him.

... more>> Hell they can't even give the poor guy a hug.

He knows he will die has a hated individual, just so this world won't end, and the people he loves won't die again.

The guy has to save the world, and he has to do it alone.

Story is amazing from what I read, but I don't think I can finish it the trauma conga line does not seem to stop anytime soon.

Spoiler

Also game developers are a**holes

The Main Heroines Are Trying to Kill Me blends fantasy, psychological elements, and romance into an intricately woven story that keeps readers guessing. Protagonist Frey Raon Starlight must walk the hidden "Path of False Evil" to save the world, which requires betraying the heroines and destroying everything first.

This morally gray premise creates heavy emotional drama, as Frey commits unforgivable acts despite caring for the heroines. Their hatred of him is understandable, making their eventual redemption and romance more impactful. Frey is a complex character, neither overpowered nor incompetent, just doing... more>> what he must under tragic circumstances.

The mystery-laden plot masterfully subverts expectations with unpredictable twists and turns. The game-inspired setting adds uniqueness, though the stark black-and-white morality at times stretches belief. Supporting characters feel realistically flawed and multifaceted. The slowly built romances avoid instant love cliches.

While the early chapters establish the framework, the writing improves dramatically as the story progresses. Descriptions are vivid and immersive. Translators receive praise for high quality work capturing the author's skill.

For those seeking an unpredictable story capable of eliciting both tears and excitement, with a flawed but sympathetic protagonist and emotionally resonant relationships, The Main Heroines Are Trying to Kill Me delivers an unforgettable reading experience once it hits its stride. Just be prepared for devastating lows on the way to the satisfying payoffs. <<less

To start with, this is a harem novel, so if you don't like harems stay out of this one. Don't even think about reading this novel and then complain about it being harem and give it 1 star.

Now what I like the most about this novel would be the mistery and the drama. The more chapters you read, you'll notice that more and more things don't make sense. With every chapter the feeling that things are not what they seem increases more and more.

The drama of this novel I would... more>> say it's pretty heavy at times, but leaves a great sense of satisfaction when it gets resolve. You should be aware by now that this a pretty dramatic novel, although it gets resolves pretty much every time, it can be quite the burden at times.

The main character of this novel is pretty likeable, he would do everything if it means he can save even one more person. But will not hesitate at all to kill any kind of person or demon.

The main heroines are all likeable, some more than others. Although with so many female characters there are times when some of them get kind of forgotten. <<less

The story follows the protagonist, Frey, who is sent back in time with the mission to save the world from the demon lord. However, he is given a seemingly evil and unreliable system that forces him to keep his true identity a secret. This leads to a series of misunderstandings and conflicts with the main heroines, who initially view him as a villain.

The novel successfully challenges the common trope of keeping one's regression a secret by incorporating the "False Evil System" as a central plot device. This adds a layer... more>> of complexity and intrigue to the story, making it stand out amongst other similar works. The character development of both the MC and the heroines is well-executed, and the world-building, while not the strongest aspect of the story, is sufficient to support the overall narrative.

The plotting is quite strong and has a deep tangled mystery with many layers and from readers who have read ahead, it seems a lot of it will pay-off so I'm excited for that.

Overall, this novel offers a unique and engaging experience for readers who enjoy character-driven stories with a blend of tragedy, mystery, and fantasy elements. While it may not be for everyone, those who appreciate a fresh take on a familiar genre will likely find this story to be a rewarding read. <<less

Rather unique, although I have limited experience with this genre. As of chapter 110 the story still feels exciting and fun to read, with an air of suspense persisting throughout many of the chapters. TL is doing a good job which makes it a better experience.

To expand upon what was previously stated, the story is about a bad guy who is good, but must do bad, or else everything become bad. Throughout the story other characters ponder if bad guy good guy, or if bad guy truly bad guy. Important... more>> part of story, if other know bad guy = good, good/bad guy die. <<less

Time to finally write a review for this.

Genuinely good novel that takes the VERY common regressor trope of keeping it a secret- even when it would be outright advantageous to reveal it, and destroys it with the 'False Evil System'. I love nothing more than a creative work actually trying to challenge tropes, rather than just circumventing or accepting them.

Quick concept of the novel (only slight spoilers for c1-2)

Spoiler

MC learns that if he becomes evil and helps destroy the world (which is guaranteed to eventually occur anyway), he will be able to regress and gain the ability to save the world in a new timeline- but oh, wait- now you have characters (our 'Main Heroines') that have the same memories of the previous timeline, and the MC can't just do a 180 and say 'I was actually good all along!' due to the system punishing him for everyone who finds out. This fills a ton of plot holes before they even have the chance to start.

[collapse]

You might not like the MC because he's forced to hide his identity and powers (a trope this novel does NOT circumvent), and that's fine, but if this isn't an issue for you- then you have yourself a nice novel to read. <<less

Main Heroines is a fantastic webnovel. Its strongest point imo is undoubtedly its plot twists and meticulously written overarching mystery.

There is this big complex mystery surrounding the whole story starting from its premise, and its very intriguing. When you go back and reread after a while, you realize that everything is foreshadowed really well with so many hints sprinkled throughout the whole novel. But even though we get so many puzzle pieces, it is still difficult to piece them together to get a grasp of the bigger picture. Once you... more>> think you've understood it, another curve ball comes and you have to rethink your premises. Its so fun to speculate about this novel and see the theories others cook up. This is one of those novels I prefer to read as its being translated than binge once its completed.

But even if speculations and mystery is not your cup of tea, this novel can still be very enjoyable for its interesting premise, characters and drama. Compared to many other novels, the heroines here are proactive and their actions constantly influence the direction of the plot. Most of them are also competent and clever, which makes it quite enjoyable to see their pov. The main character is another interesting one. He is a very kind and selfless person at heart, but his role forces him to be cunning, manipulative and evil. Its interesting to see the effect this has on his psyche. Although it hasn't been explored nearly as much as I'd like it to be, I think it will come into play later. Finally, antagonist (s). Having good antagonist (s) is essential to keep a story like this exciting for me. I won't elaborate due to spoilers, but from what I've read so far, the potential here seems high. The drama is decent and emotionally loaded, but the writing can definitely be seen as needlessly melodramatic at times, and also lacking some subtlety which weakens the delivery for me (for this reason I feel like this story would work much better in a visual medium). But I also think the writing is improving as the story goes on.

The only thing holding this novel back for me was the amount of love interests there were, and how their development fell into the same pattern that revolves around the MC. And I really wish it didn't cause these are genuinely interesting characters with other things going on for them. Finally, the pacing is pretty damn good. Almost every chapter has something that fuels speculation about the mystery or some unpredictable turn of event that makes the story more fun, and like user araragiKun mentioned, the author doesn't drag on points for too long, which is so refreshing for a drama laden novel like this.

Overall, this is a really fun webnovel I'd recommend if you enjoy a well-paced complex multilayered mystery, competent characters, unpredictable plot development, and some harem romance. <<less

In the first few chapters, I was thinking that it is the same old self-sacrificing cringy novel.. I even thought of just dropping it but now that I have read even the first 30 chapters, I can see that the premise is very unique and the characters are actually good.

The story flows logically till now. Although, I don't know how it will end right now, it is definitely the most unique story I have read in a while.

The translation is good. The pacing is good. In fact, unlike other authors,... more>> the author of this story doesn't like to drag one point for too long.

Spoiler

For instance, when his butler Kania discovers his secret, I thought that they will take a lot of time or never reveal it to the MC but surprisingly, it doesn't take long for him to notice it.

First of all this is a good novel, nothing to say about traduction, grammar or storytelling, what really put me off however is how the MC is like a patient under intensive care, spitting blood and ill literally every chapter while the heroines around either feel guilty or hate him.

Its like watching a fish struggle on land and slowly die, thats just depressing

I really like this story but before I go into what I like I'm going to talk about my biggest gripe with this story first so It can be a negative and then a stream of positive since this is honestly a great read.

The system is a big plot device and kinda takes my immersion out of the story. I understand the need for the system but the system of false evil is really restricting which makes it hard to read the story at times. I get that he has... more>> to act evil to get points but other than the Hero Armament potential unlocked and item shop it feels pointless. The staff in the skills helps in being a false evil rather than actually helping him in a fight which makes me question if the item shop and Hero armament weren't there what would be the point of this system? It just feels jarring and unhelpful, especially with how damage the MC gets from the penalties
Spoiler

I never like unprompted long-time skips I'm okay with a week time skip but MC was a potato for 3 months because of the system penalty

[collapse]
Hopefully these criticisms get fixed as the system increases in rank.

Well, this story is actually amazing. MC is the descendant of an Isekai Protagonist and he was fully aware of his destiny and what he needs to do to reach a happy ending the other thing standing in his way are the people who he wants to protect most, ironic I know. The heroines also getting their memories from the regression is a nice little touch of spice that gives MC's memories about the future a hint of unreliability which is nice and Frey ain't no wuss. He is a full-fledged warrior who is ready to play the fool to further advance toward his own ending even if it means he has to go against the world. He is at times mentally unstable which gives him that extra touch of humanness to counteract his inhumanely righteous nature and it is heartbreaking to read him hurt his loved ones and go against the nightmare ordeals. He is legitimately a good MC that isn't a 1-dimensional self-insert and it's great to read about his determination.

Of course, a big part of this novel is THE WAIFUS and we got plenty. My favorite at the moment is Kania since I have a thing for girls in suits but Serena seems like she is a strong contender to take my best girl spot. All the others are great too it's just we haven't seen their cute side yet due to them hating the MC but there all still cute in their illustrations (Go join the Genesis discord to look at them along with other character illustrations) so it's a fun read and I look forward to the direction the story goes into. <<less

I'm really impressed with the quality of this novel. It got me totally by surprise. When you read the title and the sinopsis, what comes to your mind is a generic fantasy/harem/hero x demon king story, but the reality is way different. It's an excepcionally well written drama, where you can feel the characters pain. There are some comical scenes here and there, but the main focus of the story are the struggles the characters faces all the time. They are all really well written, with unique and distincts personalities.

The... more>> plot developent is awesome, totally different from the norm. It is really an unique take on the "hero x demon king" genre, so much so that you won't have an easy time trying to predict what will happen next, based on your previous experiences with this genre. There author did a really good job here. There are many mysteries from which you can't predict the answer cuz the author always comes up with something out of the expectations margin, and that's awesome, cuz make you want to keep reading it non stop.

About the drama, which seems to be the main focus of this story, there were so many scenes that made my heart ache for the characters and also cheer for them. Seeing the main character having to lie to the ones he love, and with that, and hurt them quite a lot, while he himself becomes equally or even more hurt in the process, without being able to ask anyone for help, without having anyone to confide to, having to shoulder all this pain and guilty alone and having his mind being torn apart little by little by it, is something that really touchs the heart of the reader. It makes you ask "how the hell this guy is able to keep going forward?". There was a certain event in this story, which I will call "second bad ending", that completely shredded my heart. For f*cks sake!!! I stayed awake till almost 4AM because I couldn't stop reading this sequence of events, and after that, I had some trouble to sleep... hahaha...

But nothing is perfect. If there is something I would like to complain about this novel, is how the author uses the concept of magic in its setting. As a fantasy setting, is quite obvious that magic would be a thing, and I, usually, have nothing against it. The problem starts when the author uses the concept of magic as a "joker card", as a "tool" he/she can use, whenever he/she can't come up with a reasonable solution to a given situation, making magic seem like some godlike power, but only when the author deems so. When the author needs, there is always an ideal magic to tackle the problem, but when it is not convenient for the author intentions, no ideal magic exists. And this is what happens quite often in this story, which really annoys me. <<less

The Main Heroines are Trying to Kill Me offers an intriguing premise of a regression storyline with a "false villain" protagonist. The main character, Frey, finds himself forced to walk the path of evil and deceit in order to save the world from destruction. This inevitably puts him at odds with the main heroines who remember the previous timeline and despise Frey for his villainous actions.

Despite the melodramatic setup, the novel delivers emotional depth and nuance beyond typical light novel fare. Frey grapples with difficult choices, inner turmoil, and the... more>> burden of being hated and misunderstood. His relationships with the heroines evolve in meaningful ways as their perspectives broaden.

The story contains plenty of twists and turns to keep readers guessing Frey's true motivations. Side characters also receive strong characterization, with shades of gray instead of clear-cut heroes and villains. The fantasy setting, while not highly original, provides an interesting backdrop for the unfolding drama.

Overall, The Main Heroines are Trying to Kill Me succeeds at subverting common tropes and cliches. Frey's antihero role reversal makes for a compelling, emotionally complex narrative. Readers who enjoy tragic melodrama and exploring the gray areas between good and evil will find this a highly satisfying read. Just be prepared for an angst-filled journey before reaching the hopeful ending. <<less

This is my first review, which is fitting considering this is the first light novel I read, and what got me into using novel updates and eventually making this account. All this is to say that The Main Heroines are trying to kill Me is amazing for one quality above all else, consistency. Even after reading many light/web novels, this remains supreme as one of the only novels to not just remain good over time, but actually improve in quality. Despite me not liking the yandere trope generally and despite... more>> the cliche/repetitive aspects of the story, I still highly recommend reading this light novel. I really quite liked this one. It knows its niche and performs well within it. I do admit, the novel does get a little bit too melodramatic at times, but I liked it every time the heroines said "I was wrong, forgive me Frey" even after the ten trillionth time.

Also, for a novel whose entire setup hinges on the few instances where the main heroines finding out that the MC isn't actually evil, it REALLY manages to have that happen many, many times. What I'm trying to say is, normally... more>> it would be just a one and done. The heroines find out, and that's that. The setup is over. But no, this novel circumvents the problem that everyone can only find out that the MC isn't evil once through all sorts of somewhat nonsensical and increasingly ridiculous ways.
Spoiler

For example, the novel takes time to showcase alternate timelines, many past regressions, simulations from a system, and such.

[collapse]
I liked it though.

I did end up reading it through MTL, which made my comprehension of the story and prose less good, to say the least. It doesn't help that the actual plot is kind of convoluted and really weird. Black Tail Fantasy as a game and the setting of the novel is just weird, and the way it interacts with Earth and the setting is also weird.
Spoiler

There's a physical debug room where you can just execute lines of code in the world. What does the author mean by that? Is the novel a simulation?

[collapse]
I just plainly did not comprehend a sizable portion of the plot. There's one moment which, had I properly understood what was happening, would have been a very satisfying and climactic moment. Instead, it unfortunately fell a little flat. I'm not going to criticize the novel for that, though. I think that's a me problem.

Also, as an aside, sometimes the novel just turns into actual smut. <<less

Overall it's a good story with powerfull backing of the main characters.

It is awesome. If you are the type that likes action-packed stories than this isn't for you. While there is action, I would say that the main theme is drama.

I saw a few people complaining about how the system is tr*sh and how MC is always sick; thats the point of the story. He has to save the world not only from the demon lord but also from the corruption in the empire while using that shitty system. If the system wasn't that way, this novel could have been 20... more>> chapters long lol. Also a spolier about the system for those interested:

Spoiler

it is revealed that the demon lord also has a system which is opposite to the Mc's. The demon lord has to make false good actions in order to gain false good points. So the MC and the demon lord are on the same boat when it comes to hiding their actions

My only criticism of this is that almost every character is female. There are male characters but almost none of them are important, they aren't even given names, just background characters. <<less
