“You are God’s chosen Saint. Find a good companion and bear a child. Then the child will awaken as a Hero and save this world from crisis.”

Justine, the Duke’s daughter who had received such an Oracle from God, was exiled to the frontier after being framed as “A false saint who deceived the royal family” by the Crown Prince Diaz and told that their engagement was cancelled.
A few years later, however, she was called back to the Royal Capital for the convenience of the country and reunited with her ex-fiancée, Diaz.
Justine quietly became enraged and frustrated, and came up with a way to get revenge.

Gotta agree with Bulls420 this was a pretty pathetic attempt at revenge. Its embarrassing to even call this a revenge story. Even after her deeds are done the scumbag king got everything he wanted.

Spoiler

He got to bang MC before marriage, frame and kick MC out for his side chick with impunity, dump side chick on whim for MC after he realized he oopsied, have her seemingly forgive everything, have MC treat him as ideal supportive wife, got to waltz back into hero kids life, have MC raise side chicks kids, have MC treat him as ideal supportive wife, and have an affair with side chick all the while. He gets to enjoy decades of this before dying in his 60's.

Her revenge was slaving away for him for decades before telling him "Ha! I never forgave you! And I used a poison thats so weak it was a gamble it would ever actually work! But see, now you're dying.... in your 60's... after a long fulfilling life....... DESPAIR!"

[collapse]

She is so incredibly passive and devoid of personality that I can kinda understand why he ditched her for another woman. Don't understand why so many JP story protagonists are bland doormats with childish reasoning. Its frustrating to read. <<less

While the story isn't my cup of tea and not favorite.

I get it why MC did that, well it is s*upid but I wont bash her too much since it is things she could do with her current power. (Let's ignore the s*upid blind love she have for king ok).

Spoiler

She could just run more far away than that place, but she didn't, since she think she is already free.

That is her mistake, so okay here it is.

Why MC didn't run?

  1. MC got a baggage a.k.a her child, if she resist she will be restrained / cruelly taken away, her child will be at risk too, so she decided to go back, so MC and child is safe. She didn't s*upidly resist the soldier since she is 'weak woman'. She didn't described to have attack magic? If she does, I will say she is dumb, but since she is labeled as saint who has high magical value so I'm guessing it is heal related / blessing so it is useless to attack them.
  2. Why MC caring her enemy child? Well she didn't want to be villain woman again, she want to look flawless and perfect, she didn't want her reputation become bad like before. We didn't know the inside okay, if MC pampered enemy child to become useless spoiled brat or not, so we cant judge her too harsh since it isn't described.
  3. Why MC using small weak poison like pathetic person, well if she killed the king immediately, she will be killed and blamed as assassin, she didn't want that.
  4. MC used king power and influence for her child to grow up happily, and had better future as hero, yes she sacrifice herself for child's future too.
  5. She killed him by poison so the effect wont be visible in naked eyes, so when he died when her son back, her son will become king
  6. Why weak poison? Remember, if she use obvious poison, there will be someone who will be suspicious at her.
  7. Lastly, petty? Idk? She want king to feel betrayed like when she was betrayed.
[collapse]

It is satisfying? Not really.

Is the MC dumb? Nope, but she isn't smart either.

Weak sauce, very weak sauce indeed.

Reminds me of another story where the ML's childhood sweetheart had the hero ability and he had the storage ability. They split after 60 years he maxes out his ability and it all of sudden gains all kinds of things it can do. So at 75 he gets to lik back up with her after she had married and become queen, had kids. That's not a win it's a complete damn loss, Same here.

It is a weakly written revenge short. I feel like the plot would be something that would be better executed over a longer story where the twist would have been revealed to make it more shocking and unexpected, but it was the opposite. The writing overall was alright. It was descriptive enough to give some visuals guidelines. The dialogue was passable; the monologue was the weaker element of the writing. The characters were alright, but lack luster when it came to development. MC was the only one with some degree... more>> of depth, but it was too shallow in regards to her development. I understand that it was a short story, but it felt lack luster, regardless. Translator did alright; there was no massive or consistent grammar/spelling errors.

TL;DR

Ratings are out of 5 (1 is the worst, 3 is average, and 5 is the best).

plot: 1.5/5

writing: 3.25/5

characters: 2.4/5

Bonus: Short/Easy to Digest

Translator Issues: None

Overall Score: 2.5

Would I recommend?: Not usually. It is a short simple read, so if you want some revenge and you got slim pickings, it is there. <<less

He banished her, humiliated, made her sleep with him and then abandoned her, after 5 years he wants to act like nothing happened and he is still seeing that ex-Queen.

The revenge: staying as perfect wife for decades, rising children of that woman and using toxic tea that she has no idea if it works.

If that tea didint work what she would have done then?

The MC is like a s*ave of villain (the king) for almost all her life <<less

That was... so amazingly disappointing. Did the author actually believe this is a satisfying revenge story?!

Yes, let me just pretend to be happily married to you for decades, taking care of everything for you, having more kids and treating my stepchildren wonderfully while you have an affair, BUT SURPRISE I've been low-key poisoning you all this time and now you're finally going to die, MUAHAHA. And by the way, I never loved you, I just made you believe I did for decades, SO TAKE THAT!

Trading decades of work for a minute or two of telling him off. The trade off seems a bit unbalanced.

[collapse]

Oh man, not the brightest FL here. The writing itself wasn't bad, and the translation was great (thank you!), but the story was just crap. Maybe if it was meant to be funny... at least it was a short read. <<less

Betrayed, left alone for 5 years, told to return, a number of years after returning he's still with that woman, totally reasons for revenge.

The way she did it I thought was rather lovely myself. The MC had patience, how many years were they together, "love" between them to the point he finally broke it off with that woman and clung to the MC's side. Feeding weak poison to him everyday not knowing when he would die, that little fire in you after every cup he drinks, is this the day? She was so patient that the fire never dimmed, she didn't seem to worry about it taking so many years. The smile she must have had on her face while he drank, the joy she must have felt knowing he was being slowly poisoned and her child who had lived in a small village would soon become the Hero and later King.

The joy she must have felt to spill it all to his face as he lay dying, and the destruction on his soul it must have caused. Learning the one you love has been poisoning you for years, happily waiting for you to die, the agony he must have been in to watch his long years of love wither in that moment, finally learning the joy on her face when he drank his tea not being one of love but of pleasure in watching his slow demise, knowing his whole adult life was a lie.

Sometimes quick painful revenge is satisfying, but a long revenge game... It's beautiful!

Although I understand her bitterness, I think it's too painful to try to go that far as to spend 40 years of your life slowly poisoning him when you could've just simply cut off all contact with him - maybe Serge could occasionally meet his father, but I think it was tiring for her. Maybe she loved him, too, so she took her sweet time for her revenge. I just think she shackled herself for so long... then again, maybe she also wanted Serge to be raised in a (pretend)... more>> happy family until he was already old enough for her to leave him to himself.

They did say, "the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference." I don't know how true that is, but in the end, she could've been much happier not shackling herself to him.

Now, if they are to be reincarnated or if Diaz was to go back in time, I wouldn't think so much of this prologue but that "she spent a long time with her revenge instead of leaving him. I guess that's how much she "hate-loved' that guy. Her bitterness runs 40 years."I wonder what Diaz would do to fix his regrets, or if Justine were to go back, would she have chosen to reject their potential engagement, or would it end like this again? <<less

As most mentioned the revenge is pretty disappointing. The plot had potential but sadly the ending didn't live up to the expectation.

Rating it three as the plot is good but the ending and revenge sucks.

Thanks translator for translating this! Hope the WN is way better than this.
