Queen Leticia was executed by beheading. She had committed various crimes in order to turn her husband’s attention away from his lover, which ultimately led to her being labeled as the worst villain by the public.

I was disliked by my husband and hated by the people, and everyone hated me. Oh, how foolish I was. Father, Mother, I’m sorry.

However, even though I thought I had died, I somehow went back in time and started my second life.

“In this life, I won’t fall in love. I’ll become a plain and studious person and live a peaceful life!”

In my previous life, I had spent my Academy life playing around, but now I devoted myself to studying. Even though my ex-husband, Prince Agustin, is one year ahead of me, I no longer care about him.

One day, Leticia met a male student named Camilo Cervantes. He was a superstar at the Academy who would later become a dragon knight.

In my previous life, we had been close, but in this life, I was a bottom-tier girl and he was a popular student. Of course, there should be no connection between us.

Despite this, various circumstances led me to learn magic from him, and during our practice, my glasses slipped off, revealing my face.

And then, an intense love and obsession began! He surrounded me with his love!

Huh? He saw my face and regained his memories from our previous life? “I’ve always loved you.” Is he serious?!

This is my second book by this author and while I do believe the other was more polished, I am definitely a fan.

The author has the talent of taking popular ideas like reincarnated villainesses and giving them enough life that they feel fresh.

Lettie is a very smart girl. Once she gets executed in her past life, she falls out of love (if it was ever really love) with the prince and does everything she can to be normal while subtly atoning for her sins. To be honest, she wasn't much... more>> of a villain just a young girl with too much power infatuated with a man who never cared about her.
Camilo might be my favorite character because he’s somewhat out of genre for this. While Lettie is very in tune with other reincarnated villainesses, Camilo reads like the ML of a Northern Duke novel. He still fits in but he has an intensity I really appreciated. A spoiler but example of how devoted he is to Lettie in both lives:

Spoiler

In his past life, he tried to break her out of jail before her trial but she asked him not to and since her charges were not worthy of execution, he respected that and thought he could help her in another way. When he finishes his punishment for breaking into prison, he learns that she was executed and pretty much immediately killed the King and his lover knowing he’ll die and prays she’ll be happier in her next life. This is what causes time to go back.

[collapse]

He is usually a soft, caring fiancé who respects her independence while making sure to involve himself in her interests in a supportive way but as soon as she is in danger, genre change. Can also be summarized best with their mutual friend calling him a mad dog and informing FL that she can take care of and make Camilo happy by never getting hurt or scared and second best being near him even half-heartedly.

It was also refreshing that the Prince was truly kind of a bad person.
Spoiler

Usually when it’s revealed mind control comes into play, they show that they loved the FL all along and it’s so sad. In this case, he was ignoring her before he met the witch and even in this lifetime made it clear he thought himself superior to everyone else. It was very satisfying when Lettie told him off for hitting on her when he was on a date himself at the Zoo. Would he have been a good king without mind control? Maybe but he certainly wasn’t a good boyfriend/husband/friend/brother/cousin.

[collapse]

I only had two complaints: I wanted to see more. It would have been nice to hear their engagement announced finally and I would have love to hear more about Alondra and Elias. It seemed to lightly hint they had interest but also unlikely that it could be anything. <<less

A typical villainess plot but it's slow when building up to the conflict. Knocked off two stars because of pacing seems a little weird to me. Majority of it is focused on the relationship between Leticia and Camilo and it's good, but because the pacing of the conflict is weird, it feels like the issues they come across feel a little made up even with explanations behind them.

It's like all these people can go their separate ways and live happily ever after without ever bothering each other but plot anxiety... more>> gets to them. Which is the point but still feels pointless to read.

It's a slow light-hearted read, but not for me since I'm one of those people that read for thr drama. <<less

haaaaa...

I'm regretting pushing myself to read this.

why is everyone written like they have the EQ of a slug!?

... more>> A "Main Character" so "blinded" by love she never realized what a nuisance she was and just kept going, never understood her position, and accepted punishment for something she never did, even after becoming the top grade in her classes she never understands that what happened to her doesn't make sense.

A "Crown Prince" so detached from his own emotions all he ever feels is "annoyance" without understanding why he feels that way... but he comes off even more annoying than this particular staple character (read "Observation record", you'll know what I mean, this character is much better depicted in there, a real "high IQ sociopath without empathy" would know how to READ people better).

A "Male Lead" that's basically "soft-yandere", that comes off as a pushy, maniacal, psychopath.

This is 101 "how to write annoying, unrealistic, one dimensional, tone deaf, emotionally blind characters", but there is no "humor" or "cuteness" in any of this, it's played straight which clashes immensely with the tone since you can't take it seriously.

The setting is fine, the world building is quite good, the twist is quite well done (for a returner story, it's unique in some parts, enough to make it kind of interesting)

But all the other flaws of Japanese authors that just stick to the "staple characters" and can't write a character that feels like an actual "human being" are there.

I can smell the plot development from a mile away... because this story has been told a million times, that's FINE, I don't mind that, I know what I'm supposed to be getting my self into.

I can smell the CHARACTER development from a mile away too... for the same reasons, and I'm fine with that too.

There isn't much of a twist or hook that elevates this from the rest... there isn't much to write home about, because the plot can't hold on since it's an over-used cliché, and the characters are too one-dimensional to make them interesting.

This is just too straight forward, the author is writing a "setting" with cliché plot and one dimensional characters, the "setting" isn't enough to hold the story together because there is no "emotional" hook, there is no interesting "plot development", there is no character growth, there are just "things" that "happen" that the characters react always in the same way, all the time, which makes it obnoxious, there is just "confusion" about their own feelings, and that's it, they will always move on as you already expect and know they will because they aren't human.

The "drama" is an illusion that doesn't hold up because it's always just a "train of thought" nothing is really "happening", it's all in their monologue, and that's... annoying, there are no decisive actions, there are no developments, it's just them accepting something we already knew they would accept, the anxiety is fake, because its got no repercussions on the story at all.

RavensChrome said it before "It's like all these people can go their separate ways and live happily ever after without ever bothering each other but plot anxiety gets to them. Which is the point but still feels pointless to read" that's exactly right, because the "conflict" is just in their minds, there are no stakes, she was never at fault, and she was never to blame, and even if she's supposedly "smart" she's so dumb because she doesn't realize this.

there is "Naive" and then there is "s*upid", she falls into the latter category, she can dissect political papers and understand the motives and repercussions of each action, and she can't point out she was unjustly executed? for real?

I'm sorry, but it feels too fake, too one dimensional, too "paint by the numbers" to make it interesting, I'll still read it because I'm a masochist and am infatuated with the "Otome" setting, if I find anything to change from this review I will change it, but I'm very disappointed with what's been written so far... it's all "pity p*rn".

No stars, this is more of a "first impressions" kind of thing, but I would rate it 2 out of 5 because it doesn't feel "enough" to be an "ok" story, so far, it's just "poor"... I will add stars later if I feel like it's worth something specific, but I understand it's way too early, maybe there will be something that I enjoy, but I don't have a lot of hope because it's just been a generic slug fest so far, with different POVs that don't tell us anything of importance... just more monotone-one dimensional character portrayals <<less
