The Legendary Mechanic

What do you do when you wake up and find yourself inside the very game that you love?

What do you do when you realize you that you have not only become an NPC – you have even been thrown back in time to before the game even launched!

What will happen when our protagonist’s two realities coincide?

Han Xiao was a professional power leveler before his transmigration. Using his past life’s knowledge, Han Xiao sweeps through the universe as he prepares for the arrival of the players. This is definitely not your typical transmigration novel.

Man, I wish this site had a reply button, theres so many reviews that have wrong information, or didnt really understand everything. Anyway, on to my review. The MC levels up at a reasonable pace, and the only times he truly OP is only near the end. Until than, though he gets very strong, hes hardly ever OP. This keeps the fights towards the beginning of the novel just as interesting as towards the end. The MC slowly but surely integrates himself into the world. At first, he treats his... more>> "friends" as NPCs, and only uses them for benefits, but later down the line he has a lover (though romance is almost nonexistant), friends, and even (kind of) adopts one of his friends kids. Theres a lot of lore relating to the universe they live in, as well as the MCs reincarnation. Theres no power scaling whatsoever, which I think is a huge bonus. There are a lot of consistent gags throughout the series, all of which made me audibly chuckle time to time. Almost none of the characters have a boring or overused personality (exept a few towards the beginning). They are all super unique, and their interactions are super entertaining. Im not too good at writing reviews, but I seriously cannot recommend this series enough. <<less

Starts out in C- territory, but by the end improves to a solid B. I finished it without getting to bored towards the end, although it was, like all Chinese webnovels, too goddamn long.

You have to do some quite vigorous hand-waiving throughout, even by webnovel standards; it's at the very least hard to understand what on earth the appeal of this game would be for the players and why they would love this NPC who essentially played the game's narrative instead of them. There are the usual, apparently mandatory, creepy... more>> and gross descriptions of women, that fade from the story just long enough for you to drop your guard and then something like 'milkmaid' will come back to stab you in the eyes. In general it's a novel that relies on an interesting setting and plot, rather than any investment in the characters, although I think there's a decent diversity of characterisation in the cast.

I will say that I appreciated that some of the MC's strength comes from his networking abilities. Too often authors go for 'he's just so cool and strong that people love and worship him automatically' as an MC trait---which is an archetype I understand probably appeals to socially awkward nerds, but it's nice to see characters being friends in a way that resembles how real humans might. <<less

Oh so now that I think I haven't really posted a comment here

First of all this is my only fav sci fi novel (Chinese one , rest are tr*sh)

The MC was purely enjoyable till the ending, the comedy really makes us smile everytime we read it, the bad thing are female leads are shown as a love interest but later on when the MC leaves the planet they stay there even after repeated request by MC, and some female characters are not really given enough screen time, .... more>> But then again it wasn't romance

And the power system are mediocre

If u have just removed the players itself then it would have been a whole notch better

But the world building is fricking awesome, I don't wheather it's copied or taken from somewhere but this is my first time reading about planet -> galaxy-> galxy crusters and many more I forgot their names

So it's totally wholesome the story is really great but some loopholes and it's has the amazing plots too

The ending was not really satisfactory but it's good !

Many of the tech and stuffs are really interesting that u would like it

One of the best if u r into SciFi types <<less

I was really good read and I did enjoy it alot.

It's funny to see how MC deal with players and how to milk them.

To be honest I thought the story going to be much longer... how could you be sure that there is no more enemy other part of the universe?

I accept the ending and how for 2.0 story

It is a great novel. The premise is a cliché of the MC being transported to the game he played and having info about the future, but it is what makes this novel unique.

First and foremost, we have the general plotline of the novel since chapter 1, where all the crises the MC will face in the future are listed.

The power system is well made with every class having its strength and weakness.

... more>> Impressive world-building.

Very good humor.

The MC is well-grounded and it feels real. There is little to none impulsive actions per part of the MC, everything Han Xiao does have a reason and an objective.

There is little to none Chinese novels clichés. Ex.: face-slapping, MC fighting people above his strength... <<less

Honestly just read it. It is such a fun read and unbelievably entertaining. The MC can be extremely shameless and funny at times, but it never loses itself and becomes too silly. The romance in this story is very light, though it is there. I really liked the villains in this story, with each one posing a genuine threat. Unlike most novels on this website, the ending is actually pretty good. I feel like it could've been dragged out a little longer with how hyped up the final boss was,... more>> but overall relatively satisfying. The ending is setup in such a way that many questions are answered, but leaves a massive and exciting future for our lord Han Xiao. <<less

A banger, for sure. This novel demonstrates how amazing a well-written and planned Chinese webnovel can be.

MC and the side characters are well-crafted to the extent that I favor and heavily dislike some of them. The comedy is also funny and not over-the-top. Plot and overall pacing is well-planned and that ensures that the story is generally engaging.

While I dislike the technical complexity and infodump, they are crucial to understanding how the 'universe' of the novel works. Have to salute the author for being able to create such a convincing... more>> explanation about the workings of the universe.

A very solid novel that I would recommend to anyone <<less

I mostly enjoyed this one with a strong start, a weaker middle, and an okay end that seems like the author could set up a possible sequel if he wanted with the same cast (4.0 goes to about 3.0). At the start when he's stuck on Planet Aquamarine it's the best stuff in this novel when Han Xiao (HX) is still vulnerable. The stuff with the players baring the Pro-league Ra-Ra China stuff is pretty good but towards the middle to the end the players play less of a role... more>> and you really start noticing their absence. The good news about the Pro-League stuff is that the author starts spending less time on it as the series goes on. The bad news is that he spends less time on the players over all as the series moves on. I guess I was hoping for his core players from the beginning to play larger roles like Maple Moon and Frenzied Sword but as the story progresses and HX starts to drastically over power everyone they get mentioned less and less. It's a problem when the protagonist in these cultivation novels gets too strong compared to the supporting cast as the cast starts to disappear and become footnotes and yes this is a cultivation novel complete with long time skips where the characters go into closed door cultivation.

After Planet Aquamarine it meanders but is still mostly enjoyable from beginning to end but keep in mind that the protagonist is an impossible Marty Stu that will never be in danger of losing and will never fail and he will constantly get lucky breaks from the author.

Regrets -

  • Individual players are barely utilized as characters. They're more like walking exp. Potions or fodder most of the time which is a shame when you take the time to name some and give them personalities at the beginning.
  • NPC's disappear as they stop being able to keep up with the protagonist's power level. Towards the end it's mostly about HX and his plans and schemes. If there's character building it occurs "off screen" and in between time skips.
  • Grade S power levels (and beyond) are pretty boring for the most part and it becomes less of a cool technology thing and more just which gimmick a character has. For example I was really excited when in Grade A when HX finally got a Gundam but then he uses it like twice.
  • Romance. It's there but it's subtle and like almost all character development occurs "off screen." I also don't want to say worst girl wins because she's not bad just that all the girls that surround him are pretty good.
  • Open ending. It's done well enough but I can't help but have questions. As an ending there are far worse but I wouldn't rate it as extremely satisfying but still worth a read.

Pretty fun read, like that person said, it felt like a lifetime, and it felt like I was there to see it all happen too. It has some plot holes and details that are often forgot about and stuff, but overall, a pretty fun read, felt like warlock of magus world

Not a bad light novel. There aren't many trope and the MC is okay to follow. Main issue is the gaming mechanism aspect that is employed when convenient and not when it'd be smart. Secondary issues are sort of plentiful, but still not make it unreadable.

The start was good, although the plot is not feasible as according to the story the VR Game is basically an alternate reality but that isn't possible. Putting that aside, the story had a good premise but after Han Xiao went away from Earth many things started falling apart.

This is actually a pretty good story, despite some major flaws. The action is interesting and varied. The characters each have their own personalities, and even if they tend to be a bit one-note they're all different, which is saying a lot for this genre. And the MC is a bit of an a**hole, but not nearly as bad as most of the "brave young masters" you see in xianxia. He actually cares about his subordinates and assists them as much as he can. Granted, he does so only for... more>> those whom he thinks will be valuable to him later, but once he builds a relationship with someone he doesn't just drop them when things get tough.

On the negative side, there are some pretty significant factors. The translation sucks. It looks like it was done by Google. Sometimes the same person's name is translated differently within the same paragraph. Some chapters had no capitalization, some had every word capitalized. The game system SUCKS. The Mechanic class is deep, well thought out, and complex. There are hints that the Mage class is as well. But the other three classes are shallow and pretty dumb. Three of the five classes are Intelligence based, one Endurance based, and the other has no main stat... but there are six or seven stats, leaving most of them without a class. And the Esper class has a random draw of power, and most powers suck, so anyone playing that could get either a god-tier power (extremely rare) or something with practically zero potential. How would that be fun to play? As is always the case with these, there's a lot of racism. For example, while the Chinese players (and most others, too) are all human, the American players are of the "devil race" and form a team called "Devil". Really?! Similarly, there's massive amounts of sexism. There's an entire chapter called "Don't blame your brother for not having values; blame your wife for being too alluring". And there was a throwaway sentence somewhere about how a sexy robot may have had "ALL the functions of a 'secretary'", implying that all secretaries are basically s*x toys for their bosses.

Overall it's worth reading if you can look past the many flaws. The plot is engaging, keeps moving, and has a full progression cycle from weak loser to top-tier. It does lean a lot on convenient prior knowledge, with few butterflies from changing history, but it's still fun. For this genre, it's top tier even though on an objective scale it's mid-tier at best. <<less

The thing you must notice with this story is there are some similarity with what Zhitty write, the Author of Terror Infinity. And what I mean about similarity is not the plot, but somehow, both of them, can make this interesting story REALLY boring at some place, mainly at middle story. So yeah, if you can bear the plot in the middle section of the story, you good. You gonna got interesting story with interesting plot and twist, and for "reincarnation" genre lovers, this is a must for you.

This is the absolute best RPG like novel that I have ever read and I haven't seen another similar novel that can compare yet.

The MC has transmigrated into a game ... more>>
Spoiler

I am actually suspicious whether it is actually a game though

[collapse]
before the players arrive there with full knowledge as an NPC (Which allows him to have f*cking OP NPC-only Boss-level talents)

The MC is intelligent, cunning, overpowered and just a little bit of a narcissist.

I really want the author to make a novel almost the exact same but with the MC being either an Esper or a Pugilist instead of a mechanic. Maybe with EsGod's
Spoiler

(Esper God) who is basically All For One but cooler

THIS NOVEL IS A GEM 💎 I'm reading the mtl version becoz the translated version takes too long. Don't mind those 1-4 stars comment. Try to give this novel a chance, it's worth it. I've been reading this since last 3months and I still can't get over this. It's soooo goooddd. Although I just hate how the author is somehow a bit racist 😐 you'll know when u read this. It's just a bit disturbing but I like the plot and the characters especially those comebacks! Really cool.

I like this novel more then Overlord; enemies and side character's scene time is good, not too much or too short (Overlord is overly give too much scene time for side character, the worst is they aren't impact in story or Ainz or those guardian around him like those lizard or the nail cutter), also their goal are relatable like fought to revenge for their destroyed country or fought for their race social stand in universe.

MC might be bias to his country but not that much, in the world even... more>> contest, I believe we are also bias toward to our nation too so his bias is relatable and acceptable.

I always hate when story throw character status to my face, those skill and status text wall... but at lease this novel keep it minimum or less then most JP novel I read. <<less

For me the novel is amazing, and will probably get better but they're some things I don't agree with. For one, the author can't properly articulate the emotions of the MC. You can't tell if he's actually nervous, or acting so. It's like he's either cares or follows the system to act like he does. I'm even confusing myself.

Another point is how people of his world react to players from the real world, it's like they don't notice these immortal omniscient people among them who treat the rest like fakes/npcs.

I... more>> think it will be solved later but other than that, I agree that this is an amazing novel to read and you won't get bored at all.

Edit: the immortal thingy was solved. <<less

This novel is based on the MMORPG EVE Online like the English-original The Gam3, just that the protagonist here transmigrated into an NPC. As such, the mix of his con-artist persona, coupled with his production class, and the need to stay ahead of the players makes it a fun, fast-paced adventure of someone remodeling the original story line with equal focus on player and non-player characters.

A few reviews praised that there is no no romance. This may be true but this is still basically a shonen with harem subtext. Meaning,... more>> there are a lot of female side characters, so every important group of people include a woman, on whom the focus usually falls on, with either positive or negative interest in our protagonist. So even if it is not a guarantee, being a female beauty is still strong plot-armor for side characters.

Translation varies between good and tolerable only as the original text is not always preserved but shortened and paraphrased instead. <<less

It's quite good but has a rough start. The plot on starting planet is filled to the brim with brainless characters. It gets better after Han Xiao goes to the outer space.

I personally like Manison vs Xiao dynamics. They're like two sides of coin.

Excellent, finally a series that does iseki into a game but, like actually with the players still showing up. Good fun, not too serious, but still has lore.

recommended if you play a engineer in video games + like space novels.
