Don't let this rating scare you, it's no abhorrent mess.

I started reading this novel out of vague curiosity, having read other novels on the Myoniyoni site before as well as stories with similar concepts (Release that Witch and Genjitsushugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki, both good reads for those interested). My low expectations were met accordingly.

This story suffers from poor, excessively casual and engaging writing. It throws modern references in your face every chapter, breaking any immersion. Bland and insubstantial dialogue is abound; I challenge you to take a shot for... more>> each cutesy remark (suffixed by those lovely ~ signs) shown. Its main character feels like a self-insertion with none of the gusto, none of the confidence that might otherwise save his bland and depressing personality. The plot likewise lacks any sort of originality, seeming to be the "I must strive for the better treatment of the oppressed peoples" trope. Normally one would wait for a few more chapters to come out before beginning a more in-depth review with more insight into the story and characters, but as of 9/26/17 the release rate has been stuck at a half chapter per week. Better than no translation, assuredly, but still no pick-me-up when the novel isn't particularly novel.

That being said, however, this novel is a good in-between for when you wait for your favorite novels to be updated. Go in not expecting a something particularly new or interesting, but instead a mellow novel that you can read in passing. Poorly written isekai. Kind of hard to get into it because of region-specific jokes and character actions that I assume make sense to the author but don't seem realistic. I feel like the author wrote a novel for himself and didn't worry about how other people would feel about it. It would definitely benefit from an editor working with the author. And the translator has messed up the link for that page so it currently directs to a teaser for some gender bender isekai romcom. Then ch7 part1 jumps straight into "super beautiful chick is crazy in love with MC for s*upid reason." So I'm just gonna give this a 2. Maybe this will improve enough to be average quality one day. <<less
