The Lazy King

Description

By the time I realized it, I had reincarnated into another world.

I kept sleeping, and at some point I became a Demon Lord.

Even though I never wished for it.

But for me to not have to work, this world is the best. It must be true that good things happen to good people.

The flavor of Sloth is as sweet as honey. Glory, diligence, virtue, or honor. I have no interest in anything like that.

What’s there to hide? The Lazy king is… none other than me.

The story is good with great world building potential but it being only a potential and a open ending just makes this novel great.

The MC itself is so lazy it stays true for the entire duration which may frustate others but that's what the title indicate. A king which doesn't move and the embodiment of sloth itself

It was... good I guess?

I haven't finished reading this yet but just wanted to mention that the story does get boring in some parts as some events are recounted repeatedly through a different characters' perspectives. Sometimes there would be more than 2 characters recounting the same event.

Although it was cool to know what other characters think, it's really not my cup of tea. I feel the pacing became somewhat off which is why I put this as 4 stars.

Other than that, each chapter is really long compared to other web... more>> novels. Although it was written as 16 chapters, I think each can be considered 4 chapters on its own.

Also note that there are some ecchi parts from the ones I read so far.

Might try picking this up again in the future, but this is not very suitable for binge reading in my opinion. <<less

One of the best light novels I've read. A well written and unique world, great character-driven storytelling and "show not tell" writing. The character's motivations are all well thought out and drive the narrative without feeling forced.

Not a light read but it's definitely worth it.

My only wish is for this to have more chapters of what happens in the future to the characters. Despite the short amount of chapters the chapters themselves were pretty long. The total 16 chapters only has I think 1 or 2 chapters form the mc's perspective himself.

Starts out okay but gets old fast. The MC is entirely inert and never really does anything. Might as well be a magical rock.

Other characters revolve around him for no reason. They grow obsessed with this character who has never reacted or even woken up in living memory.

Also the author's pretty bad at pacing and this becomes more obvious later in the story.

Ultimately it feels like a story about purgatory or depression.

This novel is well written to the point it rivals other popular isekai novels.

At first I thought this story would be about the lax and carefree life of this lazy Demon Lord, but its kinda not.

The story has multiple POV's, detailed characters, and kinda deep into the emotions. (I dunno how to further explain that)

I kinda don't like how dark it seems (for me) so I'm stopping and leaving 4 starts, cause to be honest, it's not that bad.

Definitely not what I expected and I'm glad. The cover does not do it justice. The story is really unlike anything else on this site. I hated the main character at first, but he is true to his nature to a scary degree. By the end I had warmed up to him. Give it a try.

This is an interesting story, on one hand it is extremely consistent in terms of both the world and it's characters and what they exactly represent. By this I am refering to the fact that most of the characters are Demons whom take on the traits that they represent for example, the main character is the embodiment of Slough meaning that he basically does nothing but laze around and sleep. This holds true to all of the demons and these demons get stronger by further deepening their relationship to their... more>> trait. The MC gets stronger by doing nothing and gets weaker when doing tasks and this means that the MC literally has done nothing but sleep for uncountable number of years yet is unbelievably powerful.

The story sticks to this aspect of Demonhood throughout the story which is both excellent on the part of the author yet results in a detriment of sorts. This detriment is that the story is not a happy one or even a sad one rather it is a story that, since it follows a character whom represents slough, is one that instills the feeling of nihility and apathy. The MC is the embodiment of "why bother, " and the story ends similarly to how it began, that the MC will continue doing nothing for the most part and most other demons will follow their given traits to a "T".

As a whole, the author excellently represented demons as embodiments of "sins" but on the otherhand it isn't really an enjoyable or sorrowful story which means that some readers may dislike it. This is a story where emotions and people stay on their given path for however long they exist.

(Don't let the 16 Chapter count fool you, each chapter is extremely long and is basically an entire Arc.) <<less

Wow. What an amazing story. You really get a feel for all the characters. This story does isekai right and it is so so fun to read. If you have any doubts about this, just start it. It's short and sweet albiet a sudden end.

One of my first Web Novels and undoubtedly one of my favourites.

It combines comedy, with philosophy, with badass fights, and supernatural; creating a very vivid lore and background while building up the characters; the character development is astounding, the fights breathtaking, and it is an emotional rollercoaster.

I recommend this to anyone that enjoys a "short" [Quite long, but at the same time, short] Web Novel that makes you think about various things of life.

5/5 for me. Absolutely brilliant.

Spoiler

The ending for me was quite well done, however much I would like a nice, happy, proper ending for the MC, this allows us to come up with our own endings (unless the author goes up and releases more chapters, which I am hoping they do).

An amazing story. I love how much the description of the main character change at the beginning of the story. At first you would expect a classic reincarnation story with a small Timeskip at the beginning, but this change completelly after a few chapter.

A great, well written story about a man who stood at the top without doing anything.

I have a love hate relationship with this novel.

I enjoyed it while reading it and it is very interesting but the thing is none, and I mean none< of the characters are likeable/relatable.

As you can tell from the synopsis he is pure Sloth, one of the seven sins (greed, gluttony, lust, pride, envy, wrath, sloth). I will slightly spoil the first chapter or so since it is told pretty early that the more they give in to their sin, the more powerful they become. And that's my problem with it,... more>> the characters are so absorbed into their sin that that's all they ever feel and are completely ruled by that sin themselves and lose whatever uniqueness they had. They become nothing more than walking sin, humans are humans because we can feel envy, lust, anger, pride, etc all at the same time but the characters in this novel just can't. Only one sin and that's it, which after a few chapters really got boring to be perfectly honest.

A good read, just can't relate to any character nor like any of them. <<less

A very good novel. All the characters are fleshed and are interesting. As the title says the MC is lazy. He barely ever does anything and as such the world building is normally done through the POV of other characters. You can see what drives them and they all serve a purpose in this novel. BUT, the ending for this novel is rushed and very weak. This is because the novel was dropped by the author. Unfortunately this leaves loose ends and gives you with a feeling of dissatisfaction since... more>> it was so abrupt. It's a shame because otherwise the story is well written and at times, moving. <<less

First of all, if you want an actual story with an actual MC and an actual ending, don't bother with this.

If this was a story with a single pov on the MC, I would give this a 3 or 2. Good thing it's not because there are multiple pov so I think of these side characters as more MC-like than the MC. That's right, the only reason why you should be reading this story are for the side characters, not the useless MC who literally does nothing, which is actually... more>> the whole point of his character. Also, this story ends on ch16 and doesn't have a conclusive ending.

Sure they revolve around the MC, but they each have their own background and stories. I just don't like the MC. If the author didn't have the story centered on him, he could very well be just a side character. There's literally no point in having him as MC. Yes he's reincarnated from earth, but so what? He doesn't use any of his knowledge or even use his head to think in the first place. Hell, he barely does anything throughout the story.

The characters I personally like the most and actually make this story bearable to read are Medea and Serge and even Deije and Zebul.
Spoiler

imo Medea is like the cute daughter of the Leigie and Lorna. Serge has a sad and pitiful life, that ending as well.. Deije and Zebul just because they're awesome.

I don't know how I feel about this novel. On the one hand, its pretty damn good. On the other hand, the MC is kind of unlikable. Honestly, the story also ended super abruptly. We didn't even find out what happened to half the characters. I also felt super sorry for anyone who served the MC. I know he is the embodiment of Sloth, so he doesn't care but wow. He really doesn't give a sh*t about any of them. Even those that have dedicated their lives to him.

Serge (the... more>> hero) also lived a completely f*cked up life. No real happy ending for her either. Not sure why this story doesn't have a tragedy tag.

I can't give it over 2 stars. Its a good read but also super bad. <<less

This is an incredibly lazy novel as other have stated, I quite frankly fell asleep reading this several times, I might have been tired, but I did fall asleep far more than I usually do, due to the weird pacing. The universe is diverse and with switching characters following a theme of the seven deadly sins, we are told the story from their perspective.

Due to going into details of their characters you do get involved with the characters and wish for (if not all, then most of them) them to... more>> succeed in their errands, but if you can't manage slower paced novels, you might have trouble reading this. <<less

The first arc is 8 chapters... but each has like 4 parts and each is a decent size. just a fair warning~

Anyways we follow a Lazy king.. (no not really) we follow his subordinates! We get to see what they all see in their demon king, and all the things they go through in order to fulfill their desires! no one really knows much about our lazy king sama~ except ---- :) I won't spoil it. But in the end.. our poor demon king just likes to sleep.

I recommend this... more>> to people who like lighthearted-serious novels with comedy. <<less

This light novel wasn't really to my liking as the pov focuses more on the side characters rather than the MC and the ending was a little bit bland I honestly wanted to see the conversation between his maid and the demon king about his long sleep

I don't get the positive reviews for this novel. People say that it's written fantastically when in essence it's not. The story is written in a fashion that makes you want to fall asleep halfway through the paragraph. The author is clearly on some form of medication as he writes 3 paragraphs to describe nothing. While, spending entire chapters on information that isn't retained after 5 minutes of reading it.

Characters are not likeable. Especially, the main character. You can tell when a light novel is sh*t when you remove the... more>> main character and there would be no difference in the story telling.

The side descriptions/story that doesn't follow the MC is forgettable and flat out boring. The world building and structure of the various powers is laughable. The seven sins being introduced as a power that gets progressed by the holder's dedication? Only an idiot would think this is feasible for actually sustaining a civilization/world. <<less
