The Icy Hero is Yearning for Love

The tavern owner’s son, Ilya, often experienced the same dream. A dream in which he played in the village orphanage with his childhood friend, a boy whose appearance resembled an angel’s. A dream where he made soap with olives and soup with leftover vegetables. But the moment Ilya laid eyes on the picture of the “Icy Hero,” he realized that those dreams weren’t dreams at all; rather those were the memories of his past life. Most importantly, that “Icy Hero,” Riley, wasn’t angelic anymore?!

Truly love this story. Although short it leaves you satisfied. Starts tragically but has a happy ending. There are also a lot of hot scenes. Its written from perspective if different characters what makes it interesting to read. Really one of my favourites.

I really like this story concept of the tragic childhood friend of the hero being reincarnated and them meeting again and I really want to give it 5 starts but something about this story is just.... off.

They don't have an actual story with conflict so It feels like they tried to cheat dip into the angst bucket to grab a few drops without really fleshing out how it would effect the characters so "conflict" would happen. They start addressing angst situations like the difference between Ilya and Allen but then... more>> sweep it under the rug after it gets too complicated. Ilya feels... inconsistent for lack of a better word on how he addresses Riley's mental and emotional trauma and that's compounded when comparing his personality from when he was Allen. Everything just felt too easy. Since there was so real conflict with everything, it felt like we were just seeing an the prologue to the hero story than an actual complete one.

Still enjoyed it though! I can understand why people really enjoy this novel because I enjoyed it as well in spite of its flaws. I think I just got something different than what I wanted. I wanted a Wolf Lord's Lady but got a fairytale ending. <<less

This is a gem. The story is really great as well as the translations. It's not a typical hero love story and I think it executed well the hero's healing as he got reunited with his childhood friend a.k.a. Great and true love of his life.

I teared up a lot while reading this and all the characters are just so damn likable that you want them all to have the happy and peaceful lives they so deserve. It hits right in the kokoro everytime.

This is basically a reunion story, it's short but we could see how it's a story for Riley.

I kinda like the wholesome parts and the smexy scene.

It contains some dark themes such as thoughts of Su*cide so read at your own risk.

after defeating the demon king, he was planning to take his own life and lay next to Allen's grave.

My heart couldn't take it, I for one have a close friend who I wish to see and regret to not done anything, so I understand his feelings.

It's basically how Ilya and Riley reunites and found love, upgrading their relationship.

Also C O N S E N T was applied and I am proud of Riley for that. 10/10

really love the whole story. There are sad and happy moments, there are angst and comedy side too. I'm just sad that riley and ilya has to go through all of that just because of the title "hero", really it's not a privilege or anything you can just achieve without sacrificing a lot for it, it's a burden to the one who'll bear it. But ofc, I'm really happy too that they still ended up with each other and live together.

I really love Ilya's character so much. He's kind, charming, endearing and he knows exactly what he wants.

The main selling point of this story would be the emotions. You'll feel it with them. You'll admire Allen/Ilya. You'll feel sad for Riley. Also for the side character, Kenneth, who watched over them and is a witness to their ordeals. You'll feel the melancholy of the characters.

Some scenes which remained on me are:

Kenneth's reminiscence. How heavy the burden of 'heroes' are. When Kenneth understood exactly what the oracle's words meant.

Ilya saying sorry for sacrificing himself for Riley, for not thinking how that made Riley suffer. But that he does not regret it because he got to protect him.

Riley saying 'thank you' to Kenneth.

I love the relationship between the main characters as well. The desperate love of Riley for Allen/Ilya is understandable and how Ilya just accepts Riley.

Overall 4.5/5 for me. <<less

the first part of the story, being that about their background and what had happened, it made my heart ache so much I could cry. Really it was such a touching story, I never felt like this. The plot was too good.

but after this from heart ache it became me being all excited for their relationship to become that of lovers. Ah, I really felt embarrassed reading it.

I totally recommend reading this. The translation is good, the plot, all of this.

I have to give 5 stars. I wish I could give more.

It's nice to see a story that explore what happens once the story ends, once the threat is gone and the battle is won.
What's the price of being a hero? Can the hero even get a happy ending?

Don't expect action or too many obstacles, this story is about trauma and healing from it, not suffering more...

Spoiler

Riley has so much leftover trauma from losing Allen when they were 12 that he never really become THE hero. He was moved by his desire to vengeance and pretended to be Allen because his memory of Allen was the only good thing left in him.

Ilya was dealt a better card, from being an orphan who died at 12 he reborns and gets to live 16 years in a nice family that loves and support him. Then he meets Riley and he has to face the knowledge that his sacrifice, no matter how much heroic, destroyed Riley to the core. That he hurt his best friend so much that the people around him are worried he'd turn into a Demon King.

And around them... Kenneth, the Knight who found them and acted as a parental figure and had to watch the life of these two children being destroyed by demons. Living his life with the burden of being unable to prevent that tragedy. Living knowing that the Prophecy always meant for Allen to die so that Riley could rise and be the hero.

Really everyone has a giant trauma to deal with. And they do.

Be ready to have your heart ache reading this story, especially the first chapters. Considering that the main story is 13 chapters, it will not hurt too long... it's all about healing, remember.

It’s a cute sweet short story. And a bit melancholy tale about the past. It’s really sweet that both MC and ML got a-chance to reunited again. And love the side cp too!

The very first Jap webnovel I've read. I just decided to give a try and I was hooked immediately. I just find it cute how Riley is posessive w/ both 'Allan' & 'Iilya'. Overall this short story has a really good phasing and a great ending

To be honest, there're too much flashback occurring. I mean I already know the details of the story but sometimes the scene got repeated in diff view so yeah, it's not sad. Um, just try it?

It's recommended if you really don't know what to read anymore haha

I guess, 9/10

I am unbelievably weak for this exact trope - reborn character has memories of past life / relationship with a typically unattainable celebrity character and there's a touching reunion and they are adorably domestic to the shock of family / friends who know them.

Unfortunately, after the first couple chapters and the reunion, the story's starting tension pretty much dissipates and it becomes quite slow slice-of-life with jumping POVs.

That said, translation is fantastic and there's an additional very cute side character couple in the epilogue that liven things up a bit.

A unique story about a broken hero who lost his best friend but got him back through reincarnation with multiple points of view to understand all events. A lot of it is just MC and ML doing stuff but its really nice to see this sad person happy again (even if he simmer a bit too obsessed at times).
