I possessed the body of the heroine in a regret-filled story. The real daughter, yet treated as a fake—destined to die miserably. The fools around me were only supposed to realize the truth and regret it after my death.

But—

Now that I know the truth, should I still live like a pushover?

No way.

I decided to be cunning to avoid living like a tragic heroine.

If they pretended to be pitiful, I would act even more pitiful. If they falsely accused me, I would feign innocence and turn the tables. Using my past life’s acting skills, I twisted the story however I pleased… and suddenly, everyone started acting strangely?

“I want to fix our relationship, even now. Will you return to the family?”

My family, who never regretted anything before my death, suddenly clung to me, crying.

“Ayla… I finally realized. I truly love you.”

Even my ex-fiancé started making heartfelt love confessions.

“Ayla, you saved my life. I want to dedicate the rest of it to you.”

Why is the sub-male lead, who I only meant to use temporarily, acting like this now?

Please, stop. I never intended to drag your lives into my revenge.

This is the type of novel I always wanted to read, where the ab*sed heroine who knows she's going to be emotionally dragged through the wringer by her terrible ex-friends & family decides to just cut ties early on. She won't cling to her horrible ex-fiance who says he loves her but just wants her to be his mistress. She won't miss her horrible family who only value nobility & magical talent (although her powerless mother is an exception). And she definitely won't give in to the white lotus btch... more>> fake 'real daughter' who crocodile-tear cries & sends a bunch of her ex-friend noble girls to bully her with dead rats in her desk & stolen textbooks. Realistically, the heroine can't perfectly protect herself from all these nobles after she's been demoted to a commoner, but she does her best to deny the bullies the satisfaction of succeeding. She's not overly innocent or naive, but a strong & determined heroine who's playing all her hands right despite having the deck stacked against her. She's biding her time, building up the strength to turn the tables on her rough situation, & that makes you want to root for her.

Her future knowledge is currently being put to good use in recruiting allies to help her get through the bullying at the academy, but it seems like the reveal that she was the real daughter all along will come much later. To be honest, I'm not even looking forward to seeing her family's regret so much as seeing her become happy without them first. It's still early in the story but I think she'll do well, & I really want to see her getting together with the og sub male lead, who was also being bullied for just being a commoner.

Spoiler

She's proposed a contract relationship with the only other commoner student at the Academy in order to protect herself from her ex-fiance, but the secret only she knows is that he's not actually a commoner at all but the lost noble heir to a ducal family. He already loved her in the og timeline, & he's showing signs of falling again very quickly in this one, so I'm betting all my chips that he's the ML. Edit: He's definitely the ML, he even noticed with minimal hints that she's struggling against something much greater than the bullying at school, aka the hidden mastermind behind the fake 'real daughter'. It's both angsty & heartwarming that after lightly brushing off all the bullsht & hurtful actions of her ex-family & friends, the heroine finally acknowledges how horrible her situation actually is - one weak 'commoner' against so many nobles - only when worrying about involving the ML in this mess.

Ironically, the only commoner at the academy is actually the fake white lotus btch, who's a powerful mage that changed her appearance with magic & faked the paternity test. Apparently, she did all this just to steal the tr*sh ex-fiance from the heroine, & there's Korean comments speculating that maybe she's much older than the rest of the cast since she was originally a mage from the magic tower. She's an expert at emotional manipulation magic & actually already once tried to brainwash the ex-fiance into loving her before being caught. Then, the hidden mastermind broke her out of magical jail & backed her on this whole paternity scam for unknown reasons of their own. She's been using emotional manipulation magic on the heroine's family, but it's not all-powerful & only works well on the idiot father & brothers who feel justified looking down on the heroine for being a 'talentless commoner', & it has no effect at all on the mother whose maternal instincts are strong. It's kind of ridiculous that she went through all this just for a man, but I guess it's a staple for s*upid white lotus btches to only want tr*shy men that are already taken. Currently the heroine can only win against her in potion making, but hopefully it doesn't take too long before they even the playing field more.
