Loved it so much!

This is one of the horror novels that actually scared me. Like I felt the chill. The horror parts do scare you at least to me. The plot is interesting.

And the ending is so sweet and when the MC and ML visited MC's grandma, that part is funny lol.

Anyway, high recommended!!!

I just learned a valuable lesson. It's to not be easily swayed by the reviews.

I saw a lot of bad reviews so I was hesitating to read this novel. Only when I got bored last week that I decided to give it a try and boy am I glad that I did.

I love it, especially the ending. There are times when some scenes are dragged and explained too much, but it was worth it. Especially the ghost scenes. Some scenes even made my skin crawl because of how scary it... more>> is.

If there's one thing I want to change from this novel, it would be the tag. No 'yaoi' in here, just a lot of 'shounen ai'.

There are a lot of things that won't make sense in the beginning but it was all explained in the last few chapters. IT was a good read. If you're looking for a good BL to read, this won't disappoint. <<less

This novel may seem to be a sweet-type one from synopsis but it mainly focuses on various supernatural events around MC and ML.

It's quite scary at times but fortunately you get a perfect dose of fluff or comedy at right times to reduce the horrific tension.

Plot: Our MC transmigrates into a supernatural, that is a kind-of perfect parallel world to his own, novel. This parallel-ness is evident in the fact that all the events before entering the high school are highly matched to his real life. Him losing his parents,... more>> his grandma staying in the same hometown, the same high school and the nearly-similar academic performance. But the difference would be the sexuality of OC, having had a boyfriend, having bad communication with grandma and of course, the striking existence of different roommates, protagonist and the ghosts. The supernatural incidents are interconnected and some of the differences in this world are due to their existence such as the grandma.

At first, MC simply wants to live his life as usual. But he knows that in the future, he might get stuck in a supernatural event and the protagonist would help him, given that he had helped him in enlightenment regarding love issues. So, he plans to do his duty of love mentor well in order to gain help of protagonist later. So, he plans to follow the plot to the point.

Spoiler

But, on the night of the first haunting, MC gains the ability to see ghosts. And when the protagonist gets hurt and MC realises that he feels the pain. So, he realises that his pain sensors are connected to the protagonist, perhaps even his life. And thus, he starts helping protagonist actively.

[collapse]

Later, MC follows the protagonist in discovering the different mysterious objects as he slowly gets used to this life and realises that it's real. And along the way, he falls in love with the protagonist. Unfortunately, he thinks that the protagonist won't like him as there are so many suitors better than him.

The two solve the situations and slowly get together too.

Now, to the characters:

    • Ji MingXia (MC) - A very humane person. He has his own bottom lines. At first, although he adapts to this life quickly, he subconsciously regards it as a dream due to the presence of ML. Only when he reaches the university that highly matches the reality and sees ML there too, he realises that he's really in this world, not a dream. Sometimes, his IQ becomes doubtful, even as a normal person. Only sometimes. MC's Hidden Identity [Big Spoiler;Risky to Read]:
      Spoiler

Cause he transmigrated, he's kind of same as the mysterious objects. As a human being, he has more power, but he always considered himself ordinary so we never knew. He's prey to objects at start cause he didn't absorb any object but soon he becomes OP unknowingly.

      [collapse]
    • Yu Ning (ML) - Kind of OP, with an unhappy and cold-shouldered past. At first, he regards MC's help as a scheme but when MC helps again, he starts regarding him as his light. This makes you feel that ML will kind of simply fall in love with whomever treats him good the first time and it really feels so. But, there's no if. In this life MC helped him first, so it makes sense. So, what happened has happened. You can't change. Once he hears MC tell him his ideal partner, he works according to it. He becomes a vinegar vat easily. ML in Novel wasn't able to use mysterious objects. This change is a butterfly effect.
    • The Villain - Definitely not the OgML. Please don't think of various conspiracies of OgML-turned-Villain. I felt awkward, maybe you'll feel too. You'll know the villain's identity by the 6th incident. They're just a bunch of people doing evil in the name of greater good. The institute researchers although aren't the villain but they sure don't have much of moral and humanity conducts that they should have had. They're a bunch of mad scientists it seems, especially when you read the monologue of ML describing his stay there.
Now to the supernatural incidents:

All of the incidents that happened around MC are related to ML somehow and they discuss each and every of it together. There's one that happened to MC only, the hometown one. That one has been told to ML too, not like one of the reviews says. It's not mentioned when does MC told ML about it but ML later refers to this incident in his monologue.

The monologue is in the spoiler.

Spoiler

This is the monologue of ML referring to the incident:

When he learnt that Ji Mingxia had managed to cause the copper coin to disappear, Yu Ning immediately announced his relationship with Ji Mingxia in a high profile way so that all those who were secretly prying would focus on him.

[collapse]

List of incidents (Small Hints Only, Maybe Not Even That) :

    1. School Haunting: A ghost is haunting Yu Ning and wants to possess him.
    2. Perfect Resort: When strange incident or an accident occurs, people forget about it the next day, sometimes even the ones involved. It's as if it had never happened.
    3. Forest Killing Game: In a trapped area, a monster stages a hide-and-seek killing game, resolving to kill all.
    4. Aging Village: When Ji MingXia goes home, he's surprised to find that his grandma has aged a lot in this life. Not only her, but all the villagers.
    5. Stalking Eyes: A teenage actress feels the stalking eyes. They're all around.
    6. Rotting Curse: Someone wants to prevent a curse and aims at those around him.
    7. Rubik's Maze: All the people in a hotel have vanished. Where have they gone?
The ending seemed a little hasty, especially the part about the mysterious objects riot around the world.

In the end, the story seems to be a destiny. The events were bound to happen.

Spoiler

I wonder if the novel was written by Yu Ning himself or someone helped?

In Yu Ning's monologue, he mentioned that he didn't appear in front of Ji MingXia cause he didn't dare to do so, but I think he didn't appear cause then the past would've changed and this Ji MingXia would've never met him otherwise.

[collapse]

Some small details that were left at start such as the homework page, data in mobile phone, meal card and the mirror being ordinary worked well to make up the ending.

A character that I was worried about was Grandma Ji of novel world but, she's not alone at the end of novel while I was afraid that she might have become very sad. <<less

It's really good. Coming from someone who's on a streak of dropping novels in the middle cause it's getting draggy, etc.

The length of the novel is bittersweet cause the story flowed with a good pace, revelations revealed seamlessly but now I am sad that I finished it already lol.

I thought MC being scared, bit sloppy at first would be annoying (in contrary to otherworldly MCs in other horror novels who are just so clever, calm, cool-- which is the ML in this novel lol) but I loved it unexpectedly cause... more>> gives him the essence of a normal person and he does adapt well as it progresses that in the end despite him being quite good near the end, I still view him having that sense of "normalcy" (?) thus making me root for him more. ML is also good, never forced MC, just always taking care of him etc. Quite hard to find obsessive MLs not crossing the line in these type of novels tbh. But thankfully, he is good-- also despite being that genius, collected, calm setting, he really feels human too? Like I get they have plot shield but there's this feel that something wrong might still happen to them and I am still lowkey scared that they might F up and die. (Esp. In the near end arc)

Give this novel a chance, though the summary is indeed a bit weird lol, none of those happened. And maybe the horror challenges, etc., aren't as detailed and interesting as other horror themed novels-- but the focus seems to be more on the characters' development and their bond as well which made me love this novel. (MC and ML are just sooo rootable and endearing cause they feel human lol) <<less

I have to write this review with a complicated feeling. I was really surprised on how I genuinely enjoy reading this until the end, although it was not without criticism and a bunch of annoyance.

To start with, I don't think the premise itself is interesting and the world inside is not cultivated properly. The opponents are quickly dealt with all with the basis of how op MC and ML is, with an MC that is just a pretty face with rose filters right until the very end. I was dissapointed... more>> while reading it because I can see how much potential of character growth the novel could have but in every step it decided to just hand out the cheat sheets to MC freely. There is no challenge to make you root for them, and hardly any hardships in sight. Thus, no satisfaction when the evil is defeated and the characters came out of it.

Although, I have to admit the dynamic of MC and ML is quite cute. Not only that, I found some of scenes that are actually quite funny in it. I also agree with another review that mention how refreshing the case in this novel is, although the finishing touch is quite lacking, it is clear that author really put their thought into it.

So, if you want to read a mildly horror novel with a cute MC and ML that could distract you from the scary part, I strongly recommend this one. <<less

when they say "dense" they mean really s*upid big idiot where is your brain? guy

every time MC goes like... omg he's Real! not just a paper person... as long as ML shows a liiitttllle bit of personality...

he's the type who creates misunderstandings and let it build up bc he's "nervous" until he's forced to explain for "plot purposes" or ML explodes...

... more>> i would like to say 0 character development too but I do see how he's cooler after many near death events... but also s*upider? even after many near death events...

their romace might hang on MC suspension bridge effect/stockholm syndrome and ML jus lonely and affection starved af... <<less

4.3 / 5 ⭐️

The plot and horror scenes are to be honest quite interesting and thrilling. I enjoyed the pacing of the story as well since it didnt felt like time just flew past. Loved the slow romance especially since our lovely MC seemed a lil slow and dense romantically. Like he was there to be the romance trainer for the ML but I think he should be the trainee instead. The misunderstandings between the MC and ML was also quite cute since they both got jealous easily.

One thing I... more>> like about the ML is that he takes the initiative and tries his best to 'stay' by the MC's side even if he needed to make use of his lil schemes. I like the way he went for what he wanted directly but still managing to somewhat respect the decisions that the MC makes. It shows that the ML really cares and loves the MC and im so loving it!

Butbuttttt although the overall plot was great, I did hope that the ending was slightly longer and that the author can explore deeper into the MC and ML's inner emotions and thoughts after they saw each other again. The scene could have been way more emotional and touching but it didnt feel like anything to me. I did feel happy for them but damnnnn I wanted to cry when they are reunited. But I didnt cause I didnt feel much from the writing :") a shame tbh but oh wells, a great read! <<less

Amazing story! I really enjoyed it a lot. Kudos to the translation group for the translation.

Honestly speaking, a few instances in the story really gave me the shivers and the suspenseful world building to the main climax, everything was very well planned and well written. There was a gradual process to the main climax and we are already aware that something is different about the MC. The theory behind it in my opinion, though not really groundbreaking was very logical.

Regarding the romance between the two characters, the tag 'Slow romance'... more>> explains it all but I like their mutual cooperation and understanding such that even though they got together pretty late into the story and had minimal love scenes, I actually liked it. I like forthcoming and proactive protagonists and though the MC was an ostrich, atleast the ML was pretty active.

Overall, I had really good feelings about the novel when I read the synopsis and I am glad my feelings were realized. <<less

mc's slow brain in romance was kinda annoying but it's still a really good story because with the supernatural things happening around, it kinda distracted me from his slow ass brain, just don't give up because the last 30 chapters were good and explained things.

The plot was good and the transmigration is EXPLAINED in the last chapters so people who dropped it before and said the plot was invalid... yeah you're at fault, who asked you to drop it.

Also, while its true that the ML may had fallen for the... more>> MC because he was the first one to care about him.. SO WHAT? Who are YOU to decide what's the right way to fall in love? You cannot say that ML did not love MC because that's completely false. Don't look down on people who fall in love easily because they are given kindness. Human being are like that irl. For you to say that their love is fake is an insult to people who went through a lot and finally found someone to care about them, only for people to say that their love was false. Of course, it's their opinion and we should respect it but no, I don't.

The Ml's love for the MC is real and no, it's not an obssession. ML has NEVER confined the MC. MC has had many friends yet ML never tried to isolate him. Even with the love rivals, ML was jealous yes but he never once told MC to not talk to them so to me, it was not obssession/yandere love, it was genuine love.

The horror was good and so was the plot! MC may seem like a coward but he's actually kinda brave. In fact,

about the Mc:

Spoiler

MC is more powerful than everyone, including ML. He just did not realise it until the end.

[collapse]

The ending:

Spoiler

It's a happy ending with the ML culrtivating for more than 1000 of years inside a mirror to get the power of time. Time works differently inside the mirror so for the real world, it was not long

Slow romance? More like slow-witted MC. I also don't like how indecisive he is about his feelings throughout hundred of chapters and he keeps yapping about how straight he is in his mind, like shut up. He is such a doormat for the yandere ml's manipulation. ML is so unlikeable. I agree with other comments, this novel was quite good for the first few part but downhill afterwards.

One of the novels I've truly enjoyed reading.

Both main characters are strong and devoted to each other. They also have enough space for development.

Plot and arcs are very interesting and can be quite eerie, I truly liked local spirits for the atmosphere and their story.

Other characters are also well written, and as everything connected, it's pretty interesting to go through the plot and make theories of what's gonna happen next.

So I truly recommend reading this.

II mean what can I say? I really liked the plot and the characters, but at the same time, why did the author felt the need to constantly repeat the plot again, again and again? Like, after finishing one spirit she recalls everything start to finish and after that she does again explaining the parts that actually matter and even if we ignora the constant explanations that are completly irrelevant, still, what ending was that? Lol Yu Ning didn't get feelings, he didn't really do much other than protecting Ji... more>> Mingxia e suffering, why make him suffer so much?? I don't mind a little twist but c'mon! For me this could be easily be cut to 100 chapters and you wouldn't even notice, only taking out the irrelevant parts. Still an okay read, nothing specially good, nothing specially bad. Nice enough to pass the time. <<less

Really good!

Has supernatural elements along with romance and big mysteries.

MC is relatable and is an adaptive person. Although, there are some times I wonder why MC didn't get the hint but he figured out anyways.

... more>> I like the ending and how it shifts to ML's P.O.V. In the end. ML is really hard to read through.

I wouldn't say that ML is a yandere, he does get jealous but thats that. ML is obsessed but not possessive. Their relationship is so wholesome, with the efforts of MC.

There are some plotholes that I questioned myself,

I am glad, I didn't read the comments until I finished this novel.

It was sooooooooo good!

As a horror romance novel, it has balanced plot. The author change a lot of POV for reader to understand how the character thinks, and I admired that! I know it's not easy.

The characterization is great! I know a bunch of reader think the MC is kinda dumb, or ML is too perfect that feel fake, but I think that's normal! I don't know why, but I always feel like what MC think and do,... more>> I will do it too if I were him, really xD

Anyways, this novel is worth read! <<less

Worthwhile read, definitely one of my favorites so far

Reminded me of several other great novels and was a good mix of Don't You Like Me; any infinite flow horror novel; Mr. Melancholy Wants to Live a Peaceful Life; and even Scum Villain (transmigration; huge change in ML from butterfly effects)

MC can be slow with logical analysis but I try to not hold it against him! ML is basically Sherlock :')

Top-notch translation too :}

I get bored really easily, but I can overlook plot holes as long as the plot is exciting enough. I can say that I managed to complete this story so that should tell you something about the pacing.

There was a good mix of the horror and the romance parts, and I thought the way that MC and ML protect each other and realize their feelings sincerely were really sweet! MC came to terms with his changing sexuality quite maturely imo. I don't know why some people think there's no romance... more>> because ML is such a vinegar jar to everyone who even looks at the MC's direction, giving us so much dogfood honestly, not complaining. I was looking for a lighter tone with some interesting elements to switch things up so their OPness didn't bother me and this fit my needs just right.

I also enjoyed that the author tried to provide a reasonable backstory and context for the ending, even referencing things that happen way way early in the chapters as the way for the ML and MC to be reunited, so keep your senses sharp if you like catching those small details.

Overall, a fun read worthy of a re-read. Thankyou to the wonderful translator!! <<less

MC is an adorable boy who starts off with average stats and only one passive limit break. Aside from not being the brightest crayon in the box, the poor kid has to struggle along with a brain-to-mouth filter that fails three times per arc, the courage organs of a standard rabbit, and the infant idealism of your favourite puppy. His internal world does pretty rapid shifts from a landscape of flowers and fluffy clouds to solid impressions of Edvard Munch's 'The Scream'. And his default jumpscare reaction is to leap... more>> three feet like a cat seeing a cucumber and... koala hug...

... but all that is what makes the ML fall head over heels right away. ML is ALSO a sweet baby, just utterly in awe at the soft warm mouthfeel of his first cinnamon bun animal friend, and I can't take it any more, all this sugar is killing me. There is quite a lot of character development: watching cute little MC

This was a great read with a perfect combination of horror with romance and the pacing was amazing! I personally love QT more because of the fact one plot line stories feel dragged out for so long but in this one it never felt boring. At some points I was worried the transition of events would be weird however it was flawless in my opinion. Golden Tiger's review says everything I think is important.

My main point of this review however is to thank the translator and the author. Nothing ever... more>> confused me and the wording was easy to digest while being able to paint a picture of the scene. Heads up to others, this author really loves driving in the horror aspects and atmosphere when they want to! Ending felt a little lack luster because I expected a little more dog food and some extras but it wasn't disappointing. Thank you for everything! <<less
