The Girls Who Traumatized Me Keep Glancing at Me, but Alas, It’s Too Late (WN)

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

I’m Yukito Kokonoe, and I’m the one who had the worst luck with women. My mother abandoned me, my sister hated me, and my childhood friend, who I thought she had feelings for me, rejected me before I could tell her, and then lied to me when I was heartbroken. As a result, I found myself completely emotionally broken, and it was too late to do anything about it. But that was strange. For some reason, I feel like the women who traumatized me are glancing at me. Yeah, I must be imagining it!

This is a love comedy about a boy who has been hurt too much and too late, and the women who have hurt him, in a misunderstanding that starts too late and never starts at all. “Love? What’s that, can I eat it?”

Seriously...

at the beginning the MC in the story seems like some 'drama-king' protag that thinks he has been forsaken by the world. Though as the chapters go by things get started to be unveiled, his past and how it shaped him to be who he is in the present, and emphatically I can understand him to a certain extent i've had some similar experience as him 2 years ago. Though I am worried that the Author will go too far in disparaging the main character beating him up over and over again and fail to present some salvation for the main character (I would understand but its just really sad and leaves a bad aftertaste) , just to drag the plotline.

If you're looking for some typical Rom-Com novels then this is not a read for you.

Don't view this novel as a romantic comedy one, because you'll definitely not like it. This novel should have a psychological genre tag, as it's not mainly about romance, but about a man who's mentally broken.

EDIT: Thank God they added the psychological tag!!!

People who stopped reading in early chapters are definitely missing out on the actual story. They complain about how the MC's behaviour is annoying and edgy because of just some minor hardships that happened in the story. I read their reviews before reading the novel. Boy were they... more>> wrong.

The MC is very broken inside, safe to say that he's genuinely mentally ill. What caused this is the people around him.

His edgy behaviour is a product of him trying to protect what's left inside of him, which is not much. The MC is a literal void with almost no emotion at all, and that behaviour of his, is merely a shell.

Why he became like this will be explained in the novel. It's genuinely depressing when you find out.

Spoiler

His sister was childish and tried to kill him, his mother treated him like air when he was a child, his childhood friend broke his heart, and his classmate broke his heart again and also his arm. These are the main 4 reasons why he became like this, but there's actually more than that.

[collapse]

This story toys with your emotions and should not be read by those who expect a light-hearted romcom. On that note, the tags of this novel should be updated as they definitely don't fit.

Now, it's not all bad things. The story just started, so the MC will definitely get mentally better and better. <<less

A unique story, not for its storytelling or characters. It's about a MC, who's not a typical JP beta male, not a simp, nor a self-hating guy.

Spoiler

He's mentally ill, broken, and was just simply trying to cope with it. The others, ignorant of his condition, ended up breaking him emotionally, and leading him further to his downfall. Only one who's aware of it is his sister, but she's too shy to even come clear to him about it, which also doesn't help at all.

In my opinion, this is a good read. I never got bored while reading. When its time to be serious it is serious and when it is time to have fun, it has fun.

I also liked the MC, he is a mentally strong and funny guy who can interact with people well but you can also feel he is broken with the way he talks. His past is very traumatising, and he lost his emotions.

He is also in a spiral of self hating because he doesnt understand empathy and when... more>> people around him cry because they realize their mistakes and how much they hurt him, he thinks he hurt them in some way.

Because he was so distant from everyone for so long, he is a stranger in his own family. And the writers way of telling it is a bit weird:

After he took his first steps to be normal again, his sister and mother states multiple times that they are willing to do it with him.

But still, I recommend reading this, in my opinion this is one of the best in this kind of stories. <<less

The premise was nice and the writing is decent but the story is so boring and nonsense that it's look like a teenage wet dream a lot unnecessary girls and Evey character that are female are falling for MC for a lot of dumb reason and the development of the main topic (forgiveness) are too rush and instead the author focus more about adding a lot unnecessary girls in his already massive harem

this is so ducking good by the end of chapter 48

MC as a child (flashback) is a Gigachad I can hear the russian gigachad music meme while reading this. That was perfectly executed, and I ducking love it. Sigma male energy

the rest of the chapters are good enough to not bore me. The flash backs are the main selling point of this novel.

... more>> the introduction is cringe the MC is self proclaim sadboy

the setting is supposedly depressing but sometimes I can't take it seriously and it feels like comedy because of how absurd the situations and the mc's personality is, it makes sense though because the MC is supposed to be broken.

the downside is,

every girl he mets except for 1 girl are becoming his harem and yes including his family/relatives

it is the in*est parts that might turn a lot of readers off, maybe it's not only the MC but his whole family members are broken in their heads. <<less

I love this series. It seems like it would be your basic harem novel (well, it is in some parts) with a bit of your classic suffering that you can see in many other novels but this one was surprisingly deep

This series needs the "unreliable narrator" tag. You can't take everything he thinks at face value. He seems kind of quirky, a but cheerful in his inner monolouges, but he doesn't even realize how broken he really is. MC is an emotional wreck. I don't mean that he is... more>> constantly brooding, or he constantly crys about how sad he is, I just mean he is broken. He never expects anything, never asks for anything, because he has nothing. There are many misunderstandings in this series, but not the kind that you can just laugh off like in other series, in here, it definitely has an impact

MC doesn't have an abusive household. He wasn't really ever bullied. At first glance he lived a life that most people would have. But that is what makes it so sad. I can't deny that abusive housholds can happen everywhere, but the trauma of MC is different. He didn't fear rejection or betrayal because he just thinks that's just how things are.

He isn't overly depressed, he isn't brooding all the time, he isn't always crying his eyes out, but thats what makes it all the more sad

Spoiler

The in*est is really weird though. My suggestion is to just completely ignore those parts

This novel hits home a lil bit too close for me. I can't believe I'm actually sympathizing for the MC. We may have different background and causes but we ended up being in the same situation in the end. Minus the weird ass harem tho thank god. Binge reading the hell out of this onw today

This is a really awesome novel. I actually think it's one of the best psychological dramas i've ever read.

The MC is simply perfect. His comebacks to jokes and his reactions to certain situations is better than what you expect. The comedy is really funny but it's often sad.

One of the best things I found in the novel is the how great Multiple POV is used here. Because you can't fully trust Mc's narative. I mean he's broken. But you can't always describe your emotions perfectly so that's how Multiple POV... more>> does it's magic here. It makes you fully sympatize with the MC and feel the tension of the situation, because Mc's explanations and thoughts are most of the time self deprivating and/or he's escaping the reality of the situation because he's so confused and broken so people around him describe his facial expressions or give info about how broken MC is that MC doesn't.
Spoiler

For example when MC is falsely accused (again smh) and suspended, his sister shows a picture of his room which has nothing but a bed, desk and etc. Nothing but basic needs. Like the room has no personality like he's ready to disappear anytime

[collapse]

To be honest I couldn't help but think "Please just leave him alone". The women around him inflicted serious mental damage on him and it's not even funny. And they even don't leave him alone because they want to make up or redeem themselves. It causes more and more pain.

Also don't think that it's always past traumas, because there are always new problems arising but MC is used to it but it's still a pain. So this guy is seriously unlucky. But it just makes the story more interesting in it's own way.

Here comes the main problem:

The Harem. It's huuge! I mean there's no boundaries even. Even his mom and sister... Actually it's suprising that even including the side characters, female people who has no romantic interest to MC are less than the people have interest in him.

But this is not really a romance story. It's about a guy who gradually lost all emotions and thought everyone hated him, slowly recovering himself. And it's delivered perfectly! The loss of emotions, the heartbreaks... It's an emotional roller coaster.

Also even after MC solves his misunderstandings with people around him it doesn't become a generic harem romcom. MC is really interesting so it always keeps you reading.

Spoiler

Btw I wouldn't be suprised even if the guy managed to get a harem ending in modern day. Even if he clearly states he is in no state of an emotional relationship with someone and refuses them clearly, they just don't really get convinced. So somehow even harem ending seems possible. However if he were to choose someone he says and most readers think he would choose someone who didn't hurt him in the past because their love started from or just became strong due to Mc's kindness to their cruelty.

I don’t know why I like this story, but the MC is just at the apex of dense. He works hard, he is emotionless, and always solves everything through logic and reason. How he got them to fall in love with him is a mystery, but I wish I had the nerves of steel he has life would be more interesting if more people like this exist.

One of this novel's biggest flaws is that the romances are very shallow, and almost every girl or woman (of any age, including relatives) falls in love with the MC without any justification for the most part. I can see the point for the childhood friend or the girl who played basketball at the same time in middle school, but for most of the others it's fairly random. They have all hurt the MC in some way at some point, feel a certain amount of guilt and regret and fall... more>> inexplicably deeply in love.

So rather than dealing with romances like many other harem novels, this novel mostly deals with the MC's depression and pessimism. He interprets almost everything as negatively as possible, and even when he recognises someone's advances, he considers himself unworthy of them.

In this regard it has been a fairly interesting read, and while some of his notions may appear somewhat extreme, they make sense in front of the background of his continuous traumata.

One thing that makes the novel somewhat hard to read for almost no significant benefit to the story are constant chronological jumps and flashbacks as well as POV switches. I cannot tell whether the inconsistent switches back and forth between first and third person perspective on top of all that is weirdness on the side of the author or a flaw of the translation. <<less

so the MC is a kind boy who got broken because of his past tragic events and how he was treated, although it was just a misunderstanding, and because of those misunderstandings the MC got broken, however, it's not just any misunderstanding that anyone can cope at..

Well if you read the novel You'll be able to understand more why the MC got broken and how he got to that point.. as the chapter progresses you'll also be able to understand why the MC is like that and what actually happened to his past.

well, 4 stars for me

tbh it started out as a novel I was shopping to be serious, but started swerving in a completely unrelated direction

i felt like his coming to terms with his distortion happened too fast, and wasn't really great

Comedy in a depressing tone. Simple mistakes blown out of proportion. Misunderstandings turning into traumas. Petty lies. And an MC who does nothing wrong, but has to live with it. This is not a 'feel good' self-insert type of novel. If you're still rooting for a harem or a rom com, then find other jp novels. The tags are there for a reason. Maybe a couple volumes later it will turn into that, but you still can't really tell what will happen as of the latest chapter. Here, you can... more>> only hope that everyting will be alright.

Also, please see a psychiatrist if you can say that you have similar experiences with the MC. And if you feel that the mc's edgy, then you're also probably on that phase. It's ok, you'll realize at a later time what's this novel about, probably.

Wuuut? The drama is not realistic enough? And it's too hard to understand? I'm sorry to say, but this is just a light novel, I recommend expanding your reading horizons. 5/5 <<less

the story is good. the dialog is good

Main character is quite unique, he's blunt and straightforward. he's quite commendable in solving many problem he faced, and got more out of it.

the rest of characters is, welp....

... more>> the fact that MC unfortunate with women is not an understatement. rather than engulfed in negativity, MC just attracting many women and several side characters to his surroundings. quite an ironic fate even tho he honestly rejecting them.

it's the third WN with the theme of trauma and redemption. other title such as : Nyanta Pomeko, & Yumemiru danshi. but this series in particular, are quite deeper in term of the act and consequence. everyone who's hurt MC got "sink" along with him. creating chain reaction of despair, burned out, and reborn/redevelop into better self. the story that build around that are so interesting to follow, and make your eyes don't want to separate from the page, chapter to another chapter, even though some of it quite depressing to read.

but, aside from those plus things about this WN. there's minus.

especially about how the relationship between MC and the girl turned weird.

Spoiler

especially the in*estuous relationship between MC and his family member which for me is uncalled for

[collapse]

i know it's for comedic relief, but still I give it - 2.

oh, and a -1 for thr ridiculously selfish display of femdom pressure to MC which initially a victim. quite often he lost his argumen just with one sentence, and he reduced to be a pathetic 'yes man' (lol)

that's quite unrealistic, and inconsiderate for the victim.

overall this WN is refreshing to read. <<less

it's good story and enjoyable, I was planning to test the water and leave after read one arc, but I want more chapter now. The story itself is good, the combination between psycological comedy. The MC didn't solved just by several meeting, the MC is already broken, unlike the person in early and middle of trauma, he's already surpass that phase and sublimite to be extrovert, lost his fear and angry, he have nothing to fear.

I'm always wondering when reading this. Is there any chance that author is a psychological therapist and most of the experiences MC have comes from author's cases?

Anyway. For me, this novel is quite interesting and depressing. I used to bothered by depression and thus more or less understand Mc's mindset and situation.

The plot itself is quite interesting when it comes to how MC is just having bad luck with women and the way he speaks sometimes. The story though, aka MC's background is depressing.

I think you should give this novel... more>> a try and see for yourself whether you accept it or not. It's not a novel for everyone. It picks its readers.

Also, something about female characters in this book...

Spoiler

Unlike many readers who absolutely hates those female characters that hurts MC one by one, I actually finds them quite likeable. At least they know they have to redeem their wrongdoing for MC. If it's in real life, people might simply hurts you and let yourself handling the rest.

I already love the MC. His very weird and quirky that the things he do is misunderstood as "I hate you, don't talk to me anymore or you raised me wrong" by the girls that want to be with him again. The dude just basically do things that he likes. I find it funny that his misunderstandings proved to be quite fatal in the story and how the girls perceive him.
