Waking up from a deep sleep, Luo Jianjia realized that she had transmigrated into a novel titled “The Ruthless General Fell in Love with Me.”

The male lead was her husband, Chu Weilian, but the female lead… wasn’t her. As the original wife of the male lead, she was destined to commit adultery when her husband went out to fight.

Later, the male lead saved the future emperor on the battlefield, and his rank soared, turning him into a renowned general of the Great Li Dynasty.

Meanwhile, as the male lead’s gold-digging original wife, her fate was extremely tragic.

Looking at the dilapidated house in front of her, Luo Jianjia breathed a sigh of relief. Luckily, she was still in the male lead’s hometown, and everything could still be changed.

Since she was here, she only needed to earn more money and patiently wait. When the female lead appeared a year later, she could smoothly divorce the male lead and leave with her money.

However, year after year passed, and the day when Chu Weilian became a powerful general ruling over the land and her dream to divorce him never arrived.

This story is lighthearted and full of foodp*rn, with no cheating, and sweetness all the way!

2.7 stars. The writing style is not for me. The writer liked to include a lot of unnecessary things and repetition of the same idea, like 3 succeeding sentences will have the same information and/or words with the addition of maybe a few different words.
The food and the process were also mostly not very realistic as far as time management. The writer also mostly glossed over the details, like “I’m writing a novel, not a cook book.”

I was mostly annoyed while reading it, but it passed the time.

Novel not advised to read due to lack of Mc's IQ, lots of out of character shenanigans from the MC, and BS events.

Within 4 Chapters:

Spoiler

MC crosses and immediately accepts this. She does nothing to change her fate but hide in her room for 3 whole days. MC gets impossible super strength. MC acts extra clumsy and breaks tons of stuff with her super strength yet somehow the old Chu couple notice nothing. MC immediately acts out of character and tries to help with home chores. She uncharacteristically goes out and comes up with the brilliant idea of working at the dock for money. She is very hungry due to lack of food but says nothing. She comes up with impossible plans and continues to not at all think of what the original her would do compared to herself. She bemoans her fate and whines about being hungry despite just hanging out at home and when she goes out she does not use any of her money to buy food. She decides to part ways with her natal family and even insanely believes that she can just divorce the ML in ancient times. The only moment she acts indifferent and calm is when a scumbag aunt mocks her and she is fine with it. She even compliments the nasty old woman for being truthful in her heart. So completely clueless and dumb. Already she is thinking of making money in non-feasible ways and about making food, which she surely will do in the future.

[collapse]

TLDR: The MC is both op and yet completely naive and clueless. She acts less like an adult woman and more like a small child, especially considering she knows the whole plot. There's nothing sweet or interesting at all.

Other people said it's slow, but that's not an issue. The main issue is the MC not coming to grips with the world she's in nor taking any advantage of her situation.

-300bil/10 pointless. <<less

The novel is very "pg" because there's no real conflict besides the misunderstandings. She's pretty op and the writing is more telling than showing. Despite all the cliches, the story is compelling as a food business tycoon simulator and the romance is nice and slow (a bit frustrating but it's ok).

BUT I SWEAR I COVERED MY FACE and almost wanted to throw @ society, when she maintained the sexist pay gap between men & women as a modern women in the past as the god-damned boss of her shop... more>> (where she could make the rules & noone else would know aka no excuses). Like. The internalized misogyny in women perpetuated by society. Holy f*ck. I don't think the author bat one f*cking eyelash when she wrote that.

I don't even blame her because the MC has been really good so far, and that is why this feels SO MUCH WORSE. Damn. Do you understand? The misogyny is so internalized the pay gap is just a "fact" you don't even think you should change even if you're the boss. Smhhhh @ society. Man. That hurt. But this shouldn't detour you from reading this. Because I really think this misogyny is really internalized, like innocent level societally brainwashed. Because the MC was not bad otherwise.

Idk why I excuse this internalized misogyny. Maybe bc I really like the MC. I just had to rant. This-this was just a real facepalm moment for internalized misogyny in women. I sent a prayer god damn. I swear to God this feels like a meme: she could think of a machine to help polish bamboo sticks, but she couldn't think of bridging the pay gap???? (Do u know the emoji I want to use rn????)

It was really ironic when she called out the original FL for

being a modern women transmigrated who looked down on women working hard jobs outside (in her thoughts ofc) as she has to talk to the original FL in her restaurant. The MC was like the audacity as u (the og fl) a modern women to think and act like that against women smh... (It's sad bc the MC was obviously written to be this modern women who is a reasonable person and supports women to some idea...)

while I just want like a reality tv camera style to go from focusing on the MC to zooming slowly to the back where the couple (girl/guy) is working... Awareness: sad. My face @ society: ded. <<less

3.5 stars rounded to 4

The important concept to grasp about this novel is that it's A VERY SLOW AND CALM SLICE OF LIFE. There's nearly no face slapping to speak of, not much in the way of tension and in general it's the story of transmigrating into a laid back novel.

The MC transmigrates into the novel, comes up with a plan and then tries to execute to the best of her ability, and responds to changes as best she can.

Bottom line: if you like cooking/ business building novels this may... more>> be for you <<less

It was a nice and chill read.

The slice of life vibe of this novel kinda reminded me of Back to the Sixties: Farm, Get Wealthy & Raise the Cubs while the food aspect resembles what I remember in Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator (though I might be wrong since I didn't finish that novel). I just remembered those novels while reading this but they're different plot-wise.

No face slapping, no major antagonists. Slow life, slow burn romance.

I was just a bit unsatisfied with the ending. It wasn't bad but it left me... more>> with a "That's it?" feeling. I wanted to know more about what happened to the other characters like the third prince. But overall a good read for me. <<less

Spoiler

snoring ML and someone that don't like to take a bath. For me it's a first time seeing this kind of ML.

[collapse]

It brings a real feeling, at least for me.

It's worth reading, you can mtl this, sometimes it's incomprehensible but most of you can understand.

I wanted to know the end of the orig. FL but I understand that this novel has focus on the MC.

Spoiler

The thrid prince is a cutie haha, I feel good seeing a new face of caracthers like princes in ancient times, most of the novel out there has intrigue and the likes you can't see a inocent side of the people. Like the foodie thrid prince is kind refreshing

4.5 - 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As user kawaii mentioned in their review, it's a slow story. The romance is gradual but short sweet fluffy moments are peppered throughout the first chapters - even before the leads officially get together.

The cooking bits make up about 30% of the content, but if you've ever wanted to learn something new while reading something relaxing, this is the book for you. 2 ⭐⭐ for the recipes I learnt, a couple of which I cooked for my family 🫔🍛🍜🥘🥮🥟 (and they loved them!)

Misunderstandings and conflicts... more>> with other characters are solved fast enough that they don't become a source of anxiety or frustration. I added 2 ⭐⭐ just for that.

Although it could be said that both the male and the female leads have a golden finger/plot armor, in all other respects, they're normal people who learn, adapt. Their relationship grows organically, not through contrived events or some 'face-slapping' that only the FL can do. I added 1 ⭐ for this natural character and relationship development.

So why 4.5? The story's happy ending came too soon!
Spoiler

Money? Kids? Winning wars?...I'm greedy, so that's not enough.

[collapse]
Hopefully, another of the author's works can expand on the lives of the secondary characters, especially the third prince.

Now, the 4.5 rating is for the story itself. I'm happy that the story got picked up but I hope the current translator can get an editor. :) I'd be sad to see the rating go down because the lovely recipes & descriptions get lost in translation. <<less

I was so worried that FL would be stuck about the plot and that she would have to divorce the ML for it. Thankfully, that was resolved pretty easily especially since ML ended up disliking OGFL so much for being too arrogant and looking down on FL. As one of the reviewers above said, the main villain (only one too) is definitely the misunderstandings between ML and FL that may seem frustrating for quite some chapters until they finally resolve it with a proper conversation (!!!).

FL is definitely someone who... more>> is logical, pragmatic, and practical. She always thinks about the next thing that she should do and make sure that her emotions would not cloud her judgment. Despite coming off as indifferent and aloof, she is very kind to ML's parents who care for her and have very pure hearts. Step-by-step she with the help of ML's parents made money by establishing a food business from small street stalls by the dock and the county to shops by the border and then finally establishing their own food chain business across the capital. She's very good at cooking which I think is the reason ML ended up softening up to her. I really like how she can actually be on equal terms with ML in their relationship and sometimes, she's even the more powerful one lol.

ML is a weird ML. Definitely a himbo unlike the OGNovel description of him being cold and indifferent perfect ML. FL initially disliked how ML
Spoiler

doesn't take a bath every day so he would smell a lot and dirty the sheets and how he snores so loudly at night.

[collapse]
I really have to give praise to ML's persistence and shamelessness in chasing his wife lololol. Well, he really became such a filial son to his parents, a loving husband to FL, and a caring dad to their kids.

Of course, ML's parents are so pure-hearted that I'm glad that both ML and FL are smart enough to let them avoid being fooled and used by others. They've always been supportive of FL even in the beginning where bad rumors about FL spread in the village. I'm also glad that the second ML (?) knows that he already missed FL at the beginning and didn't become a hateful villain.
Spoiler

I mean I can see FL and the 3rd prince getting along well but more of business partners. Their relationship would be too boring honestly and FL wouldn't want to marry an emperor since she doesn't want to share her man with any other women (the reason why she was so adamant about wanting to divorce ML for most of the story since she thought that ML and OGFL would end up being together).

[collapse]
Not gonna lie, Prince Wang was indeed an adorable and interesting character. I hope he'll find his own Jianjia that's not Jianjia lol.

It's a good read when you have a lot of time in your hands and you don't wanna read too much drama~ <<less

Beautiful book!! One of the best slow burn romances and character growth I've read. When I read the last chapter, I was like 'Wow' what a beautiful read.

The character growth is amazing. The MC has transported into a book where her husband is the male lead and she's the side character. She has a lot of reservations about him in the beginning. The ML also considers her as evil becauseof the earlier soul's shenanigans... (Transmigration 😁) However, they gradually fall in love with each other despite each others flaws.

No court... more>> drama, no evil in-laws. Beautiful and steady build of business management. I always hate those stories where MC suddenly builds an empire in a few days. Here, she cooks well, but gradually understands the surroundings and develops overtime. Perfect storyline. Highly recommend 👍 <<less

A very calming story..

I've reread this story a few times already~

I really like the interaction between the FL and the ML's parents (aka her in-laws)..

There are external conflicts (FL's family, her love rival etc.), and there are also internal conflicts (FL's insecurity and ML's naivety)..

Spoiler

The foods' description sound deli and drool-worthy.. And the ML's preference of steamed buns instead of her "fancy foods" had me laughing..

but what I really appreciate the most is the "cleanliness" habit of the FL. I think it's the most unique attribute of the FL.. It's also a practical and realistic connection she has with the ML. I find it really funny and fun~

[collapse]

I feel like the ending is a bit too rushed.. I wish I can read more about the MCs and the side characters..

All in all, a very nice story 👍🏻🍰 <<less

This novel is very sweet, I always expect to find myself getting bored with slower slice-of-life stories but I think that the pacing works well. I actually like how the ML and FL have their quiet squabbles and petty grievances, I think it’s cute and adds a bit more depth to their characters and relationships.

Also, it makes me happy that the translator has been putting in food pictures/videos, but also it makes me sooo hungry every time.

It's not bad (especially for cooking novel fans as cooking takes most of the time here)

But I can't help disliking the ML and his family. Like it's said that her mother/father-in-law are kind but there's lots of scenes that show that they are actually not (her mother-in-law's attitude towards the original heroine or charity). It's also said that they treat her well (ancient times standarts not being beaten is already very good?) but rather they are weak and have a weird idea of politeness (they feel that their son's... more>> already wronged her so they can't boss her around) but then they would starve the MC at the same time giving away dozens of eggs to random passer-bys. They are also annoyingly nosy and the MC has to watch and coax them all the time (can't even eat without 3 times being offered 3 times refusing...)

As for the ML the author does a very good job at making him look really disgusting (basic hygiene problems). And while everyone considers him a rare good man (ancient times standarts not being beaten is already very good?) I can't agree more with the original FL who scolds him as a "straight man who only cares about himself", forget the MC but he left his sick parents for 3 years with not a single message let alone sending gifts or money! His care is very limited, he never really talks with the MC yet he never doubts that he's a dream man of any woman. And I additionally despise cooking novel MLs who eat a lot (like she eats 2 while he eats 40 (!)) of Fl's food that she spends time and money on (yes, she has to spend her own money to buy ingredients and he never gives her - or his parents - anything until very late chapters) and don't even appreciate it.

The MC is very accommodating of people to the point that I feel tired just reading of her life. <<less

Cute life of slice. Lots of misunderstandings in the romance which was a times slightly annoying. FL isn’t specially smart but has a golden finger. ML is the silent general type. The story is interesting but the pace is slow since it’s slice of life-ish type of story.

ROMANCE 2/10 (Its boring and slow there's no sparks or chemistry or color between them. I'm actually dissapointed)

PLOT 4/10 (it's ONLY about cooking tho I'm just a little bit fan of food or cooking stories. Anyway I don't like the other Characters surrounded the FL Imean her inlaws.. I preferred that the FL is solo because the FL has more interection with them than the FL to ML that's why the romance is very SLOW)

FL/MC 4/10 the other readers review about her. I'm so agree to... more>> reader @7starkiller9 wich is "The MC is both op and yet completely naive and clueless. She acts less like an adult woman and more like a small child" not only that she has a SOLO goals but eliminate it when she's starting to get comfortable life with her in-laws. I mean dude she's already married and has more interaction with her in-laws than the ML her husband -_- wtf! The fl's role is more like a Good and Responsible and Hard working Daughter. Tho. To be honest she's really out of character!

(I end up skipping every chapters because I lost my interest on ths novel and soon just dropped) <<less

A cute read. I'll be honest I skipped a lot of food related stuff but the sparse writing about the relationship of FL with ML and her in-laws are good enough I generously give 4. I like that there's no entanglement with the oriFL or with second ML.

it's slow but fluffy, that kind of story that you can read snuggled on your bed while its drizzling outside your window. No angst to be felt just simple misunderstanding between the couple as major conflict.

totally recommended to those who are tired reading angst-filled and relatives that stick like a gum in many cnovels.
