When Shen Zhifan awoke, he had become the nation’s male god.

The type of male god that everyone in the world, crying and shouting, wants to marry.

However, because the General (who lives next door) has a fiancee who fell in love with Shen Zhifan, the General absolutely hates him.

Shen Zhifan, who has always thought of the General as his male god, was crushed.

*My Male God has become my rival in love. Every day his ice-cube face looks like he desperately wants to hack me to death.*

*Esteemed General, I don’t even have a sliver of affection for your fiancee. I’ve long given up any hope of love – right now, I just want to get rich.*

Luckily, the General’s cat really likes him, and always wants to……climb into his bed.

The title and summary are deceiving. The first several chapters are light and fluffy, but this is not a light-hearted novel. At least, not fully. Don't make the same mistake I did and go in unprepared. While the ML does have a cat form, it doesn't appear nearly enough. It's not really much of a focus.

Essentially, the plot revolves around an amnesiac MC. His sixteen-year-old self suddenly wakes up in his twenty-three-year-old body. He lives with his little sister in an amazing house next door to his long-time crush. He... more>> pilots mechas for a living and seems to have the perfect life. Except he really doesn't. Nothing is okay and he doesn't remember how or why everything fell apart. He doesn't even know what's wrong. Underneath the perfection are the quiet, sad truths of his broken life.
Spoiler

His crush's fiancée made it publicly known that she was in love with him. His parents and planet died shortly after his memories cut off. According to his sister, he used to leave for long periods of time and return heavily injured. His personality had apparently turned cold and he was always irritated. He hated his workplace and the people there. The current him gets panic attacks whenever he attempts to pilot a mecha, but again, he has no idea why he reacts this way.

[collapse]

We the readers end up finding out on his journey to discover what happened that the MC was full of hatred and in so much pain that he wanted to forget everything, if only for a while. So he did. He let himself indulge in the surface perfection so he could have a little rest. The things he used to love now caused him pain and were tainted by the selfish, and the only way for him to have a semblance of happiness was if his memories of the last seven years were gone.

The premise and all of this so far was incredibly interesting. I enjoyed learning all of this and following along on his emotional journey. Unfortunately, the novel did fall off a bit towards the end. I suppose it was difficult to keep the momentum going all the way through. Some scenes ended a tad abruptly and other things weren't really explained. But still, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one, although I wasn't expecting the rollercoaster of emotions it took me on.

Not to say that it was all pain and there was no comedy. MC's sister being a raging bis*xual was hilarious. Their peak sibling energy got a laugh from me too. <<less

WOW.

I like this WAY more than I thought I would. The title and summary misled me into thinking it would be a fluffy, easy, light-hearted read. While parts of this novel could definitely be described as such, there's another level of political intrigue and backstory to the plot that makes it so much more interesting.

Summary: the MC gets amnesia and loses 7 years of his memories (in other words the 16 year-old him is currently residing in his 23 year-old body). Though he's always been very beautiful, he's still pleasantly... more>> surprised to have matured into a handsome man, and he's a bit shocked at how wealthy he is. His sister, who he lives with, catches him up to speed on how they went from living on a poor, desolate planet to his success now, which was through competitive mecha fighting. Someone knocks on the door, and surprise, it's the General/ML who the MC idolizes. The MC reacts strangely so the ML gets suspicious and transforms into a cat to get more details. After finding out that the MC has amnesia, the ML, who had always

takes the opportunity to becomes closer to the MC, who of course is very happy with the attention. However, as MC slowly recollects bits of his memory and the ML becomes more aware of the political schemes occurring within the royal family, things go awry.

As for the translation, the translator is fantastic. Great quality, minimal grammar or English errors, they really deserve a shout-out for their quality. If you're reading this, thank you!

This is subject to change, seeing that I'm only about halfway through this novel, but so far I'm really enjoying myself. The MC is very likeable. He's naive and cute and a total fan boy but not in an annoying way. He's also clever but not some weird genius (except when it comes to handling mechas, but that's a given considering he operated them professionally

and that he's literally put so many years of blood and training into learning them)

and unintentionally funny all the time. His relationship with his sister is plain adorable as well.

And more importantly, I love the ML. This is seriously new territory for me. Usually I read a BL and only end up appreciating the MC and a few side character's, because the ML's generally tend to be boring, 2-faced perfect caricatures of fiction. While this ML does share some of those traits (he is an OP, influential general with a strong family backing and a robust body and handsome face), he feels very human. Maybe it's because a fair portion of the novel is in his POV, but I could just relate to him a lot more. He does shameless things but then also recognizes his actions as shameless (which is a huge plus for me -- nothing is more cringe than when an ML does something embarrassing and he acts like his actions are 100% justified), and his pining is super tangible and sweet. He shows no signs of being the forceful controlling type, and he's very funny
Spoiler

(lmao I love how he doesn't bat an eye when it turns out the MC before he lost his memories was supposed to kill him, but gets super excited and pumped up when Olivia (the fiance) reveals to him that the MC actually doesn't like the Prince Ferdinand, he's just following his orders).

[collapse]

The only thing bad I would have to say about the novel are the abrupt changes in mood. It didn't happen a lot, so definitely don't let this small tidbit discourage you from reading the novel, but here's my two cents. Like I mentioned earlier, this novel has both fluffy moments and indepth plot rich moments. At times, the transition between the two are rather jarring. Ex. There's a chapter when the MC finds his diary and tries to learn more about his past, and in one entry
Spoiler

he's close to death, so he spills his whole heart into the diary. He basically writes a farewell to his sister, assuring her that he actually thinks she's quite cute (a running gag in the story is that she's ugly) and that he hopes she will find love. Then he talks about how he was so indifferent about whether he lived or died, but now that he's on the brink of death, he really really really doesn't want to die. In fact, he literally repeats that statement over and over for a single page, which actually made me cry a little.

[collapse]
It's obviously a dark and serious moment, but then shortly thereafter he spots a stack of magazines featuring the ML and has a lighthearted and comedic gay panic session. I don't mind a novel that can portray multiple tones, but the switch just threw me off a bit while reading.

TL;DR: This novel is great so far, and I'm really enjoying reading. 4.5/5.0 stars <<less

I've got to be honest I started reading this thinking it would be a fluffy story about misunderstandings between two people that secretly loved each other with an added bonus of the ML turning into a cat. Instead, I'd described this as a sweet novel with serious undertones. Sweet mainly because of the ML & MC's interactions (both in human & cat form) as well as the MC's hilarious bickering dynamic with his sister. While the serious undertones come out when it concerns the things that the MC had forgotten... more>> and what happens in the story once he remembers (political intrigue, traumatic past, etc).

All in all, I really don't have any major complaints about this novel, it started off cute and funny, then as the drama built up and his memories came back it got a bit intense, but then rounded off in a surprisingly delightful way! It's a nice read and I'd definitely recommend! <<less

I expected it to be a fluffy story since there was a cat in it but, it was more than that. There is a political battle ensuing and the two are in midst of that all. Shen Zhifan's identity is at core of it. In order to avoid it for a while, he closed his seven years worth of memories away. Yet he knew he couldn't run away from it, so he set a 'key'. A 'key' he wished for but did not dare to reach for it.

Shen Zhifan's life... more>> story would have led him to death, yet he found a variable. The 'key'.

This novel is immersive and a good read. <<less

Honestly, this one was so good I was gonna read a few chapters at the beginning to get a feel for it and ended up reading all of it. MC’s 16 year old self is cute and ML is cool but so secretly head over heels for MC. The hilarity of a respected General transforming into a cat so he can unabashedly feel up and peep on MC (As a cat) never gets old. The true star though, is the surprising amount of political intrigue and depth of the plot.... more>> The small hints and secrets the story drops as you go are surprisingly addicting and before I knew it, I was hooked.

while it’s relatively unknown, please give this a chance. It’s a fantastic story and a shame not many have experienced it. <<less

I can see that the author wanted to be quite ambitious with this story, somehow trying to integrate a deep conspiracy while still sticking to the fluffy outward exterior. Unfortunately, some of the execution did indeed fall short; if you read Priest's novels, they have much more thorough setups.

Nevertheless, this novel stands out for readers who were looking for something tropey and fluffy to end their day -- not everything is what it appears to be on the surface.

If you enjoy a good amnesia trope, established relationship trope, misunderstanding/separation trope,... more>> paired with some kind of national conspiracy and genocide, this is the book for you!

Spoiler

Personally I found the actions of the main characters regarding their misunderstanding to be both a little bit... naive? A little bit too contrived on the part of the author; they both clearly confessed yet couldn't trust each other.

The author wanted to show that they both had baggage from their past that caused them to be unable to trust each other, but it wasn't very convincing in the storyline and rather came out very forced.

[collapse]

The translation is really good and the book is quite humorous despite some of the tragic/heavy topics. <<less

The generals cat is the general! He can turn into a cat, there's no explanation as to how but I don't need one. Unfortunately, that's the only thing I liked about this novel. The MC is 23 but has amnesia (he was hypnotized) and acts like a child. All the schemes the author tried to incorporate into the plot made no sense to me at all and the ML is not staying in character. He's so OOC for 'love' that it's sad.

I got to chapter 51 and I feel like the synopsis makes it seem like a fluffy story with a general and his cat, but the only true part is there is a general ... more>>
Spoiler

the MC gets amnesia so he thinks he is 16, the cat is actually the generals other form, and it's actually more of a interstellar palace drama. Both MC and ML have sad pasts and there is some angst with the relationship because MC is basically on a su*cide mission

[collapse]

I may read in the future when I'm looking for something a little more drama heavy, but I'm going to shelve this one for now. Just tired of the bait and switch synopses lately. I will say, I love the translator and their notes. <<less

First of all, the translation is really good and makes the reading experience enjoyable. The story itself is already interesting with some plot setups I can't wait to delve further into. ML is also a bit different from the typical cold, seemingly indifferent type of lead. He's actually got a super cute side that shows early on and we get some insight and hints bit by bit as to why he's like this instead of it simply just being an archetype to foil the silly MC. The undertone towards a... more>> couple of female characters so far keeps me from giving it full stars, but it's still the beginning so I'm hoping it doesn't continue, especially towards MC's sister who is the bu*t of a ton of being ugly jokes. Cute story so far but foreshadowing seems to point towards some more serious storylines. Interactions between the couple are also funny and endearing and sometimes bittersweet. <<less

CUTE CUTE CUTE hoping there's going to be very ;) ;) teasing scenes hehe. Recommend, and I'm crying for more updates!!

Plot: MC wakes up 7 years in the future as a promising mecha operator, and finds himself as the nation's male God. In the eyes of the public, he stole the fiancee of General Yan, which is the cause of irreconcilable conflicts between them. However, General Yan is actually his personal male god! Fortunately, at least ML's cat likes him... a lot... but whether the beautiful fluffball is just a... more>> cat is another story.

But also if you think it's just fluff it's not actually just fluff, MC had it very very rough and readers follow along with MC as he tries to dig up and reconcile with his past...

There haven't been that many chapters available so I can't review it too well. However, the characters so far are pretty interesting and the author seems to have intentions of making them complex. Not much of the plot has occurred yet, but so far it's intriguing and has a lot of potential. <<less

Somewhat between 3 to 4 stars. The title of this novel feels like clickbait, cause the cat was just a nice tidbit but not the main story.

Story: MC wakes up with amnesia. He basically forgott the last 7 years. In his last memory he is living with his family on a backwater planet, dirt poor and somehow making a living but having a warm family. Now he is rich, lives on the main planet and coincidentally lives next to his male god. He is living the dream but... more>> the darkness he forgott will not be hidden for long....

Well, MC and ML were kind of cute together and both were likable but I fell like the story is lacking. Their communication sucks. They could have resolved a lot of all this earlier.

At some points the writer took the easy way out and "time skiped" instead of writing what happened. Although at one point it was fun, when ML got drunk and the next day one of his men told him about it.... that was rather entertaining.

All in all, this is nothing special and I took away two stars but it is still entertaining enough and I would recommend to read it once. <<less

Loved the novel until the author started adding all these plot holes trauma, tragedy, conspiracy that was poorly thought out. All in all seem like two different plot smash together for no reason. Just didnt blend well 😕. Like the others reviews said some part are just too forced and out of character. I did mtl the last part so I didnt understand when ML confessed he was the cat or why the cat form was even in the novel. Too bad woulda been a great novel

The story is deeper than the simple summary.

It has so much Cute moments and some funny moments, but everything was only Calm Before Storm. MC knows... ML knows... Us Readers knows...

And now we're finally in the beginning of tension...

But the interaction between MC and ML is always soooo Good so far...

Pray soooo hard this novel would continue its translation!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I’ll leave a review here despite having to jump off this story for a while.

The title and summary was the first thing that brought me into reading this story. I was at the time looking for some fluff and romance to soothe the ache of reality; I’d gone into this story expecting comfort and cuteness but instead have found myself in a mess of drama, politics, and tragedy.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a well written story with an engaging plot, it’s not completely doom and gloom since there are some... more>> comedic moments. However, this story is HEAVY on the conspiracies and implied social issues, it’s not a story to read when you’re heart is already heavy. Which is why I’m only taking a break from it rather than dropping it.

If you’re looking for a fluffy romcom, this is NOT that kind of story. Otherwise it’s a great interstellar piece of a young man who’s lost 7 years of his memory and on the path of finding out who he’s become he uncovers dark secrets and falls in love, though things aren’t as simple as just that. <<less

Really love it. From the summary, you will think that it's a fluffy story, but although it's short, the plot was a little heavy. There's conspiracy, misunderstandings, etc. I think what I liked about this story was, even though it's deep, it was still quite an easy read. There's no overpowered villain like in other stories, that can't die even after many encounters with the protagonist. It's quite quick actually.

Spoiler

Like, it was literally an easy fix. MC just use the villain's own greed to kill the villain himself along with his lover (brother)

[collapse]

Both MC and ML have their weaknesses. It's quite obvious and MC's weakness was literally known by his enemies. It's just that, there's a lack of "tracking device like" enemies that literally finds out the protagonist's plan every nano-second and try to ruin it.

Spoiler

Like his every plan goes well but he literally prepared for like 6 yrs, so it's really fcked up if something rlly goes wrong all of a sudden. Like I would literally lose if it if all of his plan he was meticulously preparing for more than 6 yrs was ruined just to make the story longer.

[collapse]

The emotions was also quite human. The main characters and the supporting characters weren't 2D. They also have their own POV and deep backgrounds and reasons for them being so messed up.

The MC was like an anti-hero or something? His background was actually enough for him to side with the villain. He also didn't kill the villain for the "sake of the people/planet/peace". Tbh, I feel like, and from what I understand from the rest of the chapter I mtled, he's also done with the empire and was just doing everything for revenge or something. Basically, he's doing it for his own interests.

Spoiler

He even became a wanted criminal who killed the crowned prince and second? prince (the crowned prince had if coming). Like he literally doesn't give a single ounce of sh*t. He did what he wants. He killed because he thinks that's the best decision for himself (and maybe for everyone).

[collapse]

There's also not so clearly mentioned-

Spoiler

in*est between the king and the crowned prince? If I understand that right, and later on, an in*est relationship between the two princes also. I actually doesn't care about the in*est part? (sorry not sorry) but I just can't fathom how messed up their relationships are. Like first the father? then the brother? lol

[collapse]

Also the ML was really cute. I mean he's the typical overpowered? overly handsome, cold, aloof gong. But behind that, he's like a child srsly

Spoiler

Him being drunk was one thing. Like you'll thought he was the kind of ML that was unapproachable even when he's drunk, but all of his subordinates are quite used to the fact that he has the worst alcohol tolerance and was wild when drunk. He also gets nosebleed (bcs of MC), and was completely aware of his shameless and embarrassing actions towards MC as a cat. Like he knows he's being sly and always openly eats the MC's tofu on cat form. He even starts changing to cat form often just to do that.

[collapse]

The ending though lol. I was actually quite confused at first bcs of the title of the C63-67. I mtled it so I didn't get it at first until I finished C68.

Spoiler

I mean, it's not necessarily meant to happen and they really didn't plan to elope (read extra C69). But if were me, I would also just stay there where I can be a salted fish all my life.

[collapse]

And the last misunderstanding

Spoiler

about having a child. Like when you thought the other wants a child so you proposed it but neither of you actually want it and were just trying to "fulfill" each other's wishes. But they had a second one so... it's not mpreg btw.

[collapse]

Overall, it's a very good read. I'm satisfied and though it's short, it's worth the time. <<less
