Gu Yan Fei was reborn.

In her previous life, she only discovered after her death that she was the real daughter in a story about a real and fake daughter. As the legitimate daughter of a marquis’s household, she had been maliciously swapped at birth, grew up in poverty, and became a complete cannon fodder.

The original female lead, the fake daughter, enjoyed great fortune, living in luxury and receiving all the affection as the treasured daughter of the Gu family. She thrived by stepping on Gu Yan Fei’s blood and bones.

In that life, Gu Yan Fei lived in confusion and died in obscurity. After her death, she was reincarnated into the cultivation world and became a medical cultivator. Unexpectedly, after two hundred years of cultivation, she was struck by a heavenly thunderbolt and sent back to her previous life.

She returned at the moment when the truth about the real and fake daughters was revealed.

As the true daughter returned, everyone in the marquis’s household mocked her for being ignorant and useless, believing she couldn’t compare to the kind-hearted and stunningly beautiful fake daughter.

What they didn’t know was that the current Gu Yan Fei had been reborn at full level!

It's an interesting storyline but the execution is a bit lacking. In the MC's first life, she was just a young girl who knew nothing and was suppressed by her grandma and the fake daughter Gu Yun Rong. She lived miserably, only serving to embellish the goodness of the fake and died unjustly. She is reborn in a cultivation world and learns to cultivate and gains strength but ultimately failed her tribulation due to her inner demons caused from the sufferings of her first life. Then she gets rebirth back... more>> to her first life to the time where she is found by the Dingyuan Marquis household and was being brought back to fulfill an arranged marriage. Being a different person now and being more powerful because she's a cultivator, she attempts to get rid of her inner demons by getting revenge on those who harmed her. Like all good romance novels, the first guy who she sees and is saved by is the ML, Chu Yi. Both MC and ML are actually not liked by the heavens whereas the fake daughter is the darling of heaven and given super great luck. However, the novel starts foreshadowing that the fake daughter is not that lucky and actually can steal the luck of other people. Then, with the MC's interference, she's able to remove some of heaven's influence and cause the will of the world to bend. In MC's first life, the fake daughter got everything she wanted effortlessly, but now it's changed with the rebirth of the MC. Overall, the story so far is not bad and is a bit interesting but there were small problems that added up to me deciding to stop reading it.

Spoiler

One issue I have is that every time there is a big event and the MC shows up, then the author is praising her appearance as if everything about her is so flawless. A light touches her and suddenly all the flowers around can't compare to her. She's standing in front of people and suddenly a wind blows only her clothes and she looks like an immortal. Everyone around her is randomly gossiping and the MC is just quiet and standing there as if she doesn't care about worldly things, etc. Ok, fine, a lot of real/fake daughters are like this. MC has to smirk or softly smile each time and act like they are lazy or a god.

Another issue is that sometimes the author's writing is confusing. For example, when MC gets rebirth she automatically draws a talisman to save a maid that she has only known for a few months. In her previous life, the maid actually died at this time so I guess she feels guilty about it and even shortens her lifespan to bring the maid back to life. But it doesn't really make sense that this maid is from the Dingyuan Marquis household who just recently knew they had a fake daughter so how can she be so loyal to the MC from the very beginning? From the storyline, it seems most of the people in the household from servants to the masters don't take the MC seriously and only recognize the fake daughter.

Then there is the fake daughter's real mother. She was the one who switched the MC with her daughter, the fake, when they were infants. After the switch she stayed in the mansion to serve her daughter as her wet nurse. When the truth came out, the fake daughter begged her grandma not to hurt her mother even though she committed a crime and the mother continues to stay in the mansion, eventually ending up rich and happy. In her previous life, the MC just let this happen and was too weak to do anything about it. But in the rebirth life, she is determined to punish the mother. Honestly, I don't understand why the grandma who is supposed to be of noble blood, can tolerate something like this. The fake daughter's real parents are both of lowly birth and the story is based on the premise that in the government, the nobles are fighting hard against the poor scholars. So the nobles dislike people of lowly birth. Couple with the fact that nobles also regard bloodline as very important, it really doesn't make sense for the grandma to like the fake so much. The novel explains that the fake has always had good luck and even found medicine to save the grandma several years ago. The grandma also wants the fake to marry Chi You who is the younger brother of the current emperor (and the ML's nephew) because she thinks Chi You will be the one who ends up as the emperor. If that comes true, then the fake can become the empress and bring glory to the Marquis household. However, didn't they consider that if the truth about the birth of the fake daughter is revealed then doesn't that constitute as a crime of deceiving? Even if the grandma really loves the fake, it doesn't make sense for her to hate the real daughter so much. Yet the grandma and actually most everyone blamed the MC for not being sensible when this all happened because the fake's mother switched the two girls. If it was modern times, then yeah, blood and birth doesn't mean too much. But since this is set in ancient times where filial piety and bloodlines are very important then it doesn't make sense. Even if the fake daughter is an illegitimate daughter then that would make more sense than being someone who isn't even related.

Then, there's also random things that make me scratch my head. For example, the MC, the eldest daughter, and the fake daughter attended a polo gathering which ended poorly. So when the MC and eldest daughter (she's the daughter of the 3rd branch) are going to leave, the fake is not there. So the eldest daughter said she'll wait for the fake daughter before returning since they came in two carriages and asked the MC to go first. The MC does but waiting in her carriage is the ML. They talk and the ML mentions that he needs to fake being sick, for some reason, thinking that the MC can help him. The only thing the MC has shown to him so far is that she gave him an amulet that saved his life (but story doesn't explain how she got this amulet, even if she drew a talisman to save her maid's life in the beginning, where did she get the time and energy to draw another lifesaving talisman to give to him so quickly??), and then the hint that she may have helped saved the city when it was being burned. But this doesn't prove the fact that she can make him look sick but he's pretty confident about it so ok, sure. Maybe he really admires her and thinks she a master even though he could do a check on her background and find out that she is probably really different than what she used to be. It doesn't make sense that he doesn't suspect her identity even a little. And then MC and ML are always smiling at each other and then staring at each other and then their smiles deepens but no one is talking. And this just happens constantly through the story, just the MC/ML smiling at people not saying anything, etc. It becomes a bit exhausting trying to filter out the paragraphs that just describes their perfect appearances or mysterious smiles/chuckles/smirks, etc.
