With the empire teetering on the brink of ruin, the Emperor falls prey to the machinations of treacherous ministers.

Upon discovering that the formidable General Qin Yifeng harbors a preference for men, the Emperor hatches a desperate scheme to secure his loyalty; he decrees that his neglected, chronically ill sixth son, Prince Yan Ze, be wed to the General as his official wife.

To the court, it’s a calculated insult designed to end the General’s lineage; to Yan Ze, it’s a death sentence.

In his past life, Yan Ze resisted with everything he had.

Beaten half to death and forced into the bridal sedan, his resistance earned him nothing but a cold, distant marriage that ended in a cup of poison served by his own husband.

But death was not the end.

Yan Ze wakes up to find himself back in the bridal gown, already en route to the General’s estate. Resolving to survive this time, he decides to play along.

He knows they are both straight, so as long as he stays on his guard, they can form a political alliance to save their crumbling nation from traitors.

Yet, history refuses to repeat itself.

Instead of treating him with icy indifference, Qin Yifeng joins him in the bridal chamber on their wedding night.

The General tenderly tends to Yan Ze’s wounds, dispels malicious rumors about him, and trusts his every word implicitly.

Confused by this sudden warmth, Yan Ze warily asks, “General, you don’t actually prefer men, do you?” Qin Yifeng bows respectfully.

“Your Highness, this minister has no such inclinations.”

Of course, promises are meant to be broken.

It isn’t long before the supposedly straight General corners Yan Ze, wraps a possessive arm around his waist, and initiates a very thorough demonstration of his affection.

The next morning, a sore Yan Ze can only sneer: Right. No such inclinations indeed.

The General’s Perspective:

Qin Yifeng lived only for his country. Yet, with a corrupt court and refugees fleeing starvation, peace eluded him.

In his previous life, by the time news of the rebel siege reached him, the palace had already run red with blood.

To spare his delicate male wife from being captured and tortured by the enemy, Qin Yifeng poured two cups of poisoned wine, handing one to an oblivious Yan Ze before drinking the other himself.

When he opens his eyes again, he is back on his wedding day. Initially, Qin Yifeng vows to ignore romance and focus solely on saving the empire.

But the more time he spends with the brilliant, resilient prince, the faster his heart betrays him.

Watching Yan Ze look utterly bewildered by his sudden devotion, Qin Yifeng can’t help but chuckle softly.

“Rest easy, my prince. I, too, have returned from the dead.”

Yan Ze?
