The world is like a chessboard, and people are the pieces.

Within the court, deceit and intrigue reign; in the rivers and lakes, love and hatred intertwine; in the streets, joy and sorrow unfold—all are but chess pieces, connected and interwoven on the board, sparking fleeting flames of destiny.

During the Zhaohong era, rumors abound that a feudal lord covets the dragon throne in the golden hall. The emperor summons the heirs of various feudal lords to the capital under the guise of education, but in truth, they are hostages.

Xu Buling, the heir of the Prince of Su, finds himself at the emperor’s feet, where he ought to tread carefully, feigning incompetence and obscurity to survive.

But then…

The crowd: “Heir Xu is virtuous and talented, truly ‘silent but deadly’.”

Xu Buling: “I’m not, stop talking nonsense.”

The crowd: “Heir Xu’s strategies are flawless, possessing the talent to pacify the realm.”

Xu Buling: “I don’t, shut up.”

The crowd: “Heir Xu excels in both civil and military arts, a capable minister in times of peace, and a hero in times of chaos…”

Xu Buling: “You all better f***ing…”

This story unfolds in the entirely fictional dynasty of “Dayue,” focusing on Xu Buling, the Crown Prince of Xiliang’s Prince Su. Xu Buling, a man of esteemed status and formidable martial prowess, embarks on a solitary journey to the capital city of Chang’an at the behest of the Emperor and his father’s arrangements. However, treachery awaits him on his way, and he falls victim to a sinister plot, poisoned by the legendary “Lockdragon Gu,” a venomous toxin that cripples his martial abilities.

Determined to dispel the Emperor’s doubts about his capabilities, Xu Buling chooses to feign weakness while discreetly investigating the origins of the “Lockdragon Gu.” But as his investigation deepens, he uncovers a much larger conspiracy lurking beneath the surface. Thus begins a magnificent drama, entwined with court intrigue, martial arts conflicts, worldly desires, and the complexities of love and hate.

Amazed that this gem has gone unnoticed. But gold will eventually shine.

As the description aptly talks about, MC awakens previous life's memories after his martial arts are disabled (not crippled, just temporary locked down. Can still use them, but hurts as if a thousand ants are crawling inside his body, eating away at him) by a poison on his journey to study at the capital as the son of a feudal lord. Think how the Ottomans would invite the princes to study but in reality to serve as hostages. Due... more>> to the political situation, he suspects the Emperor of being responsible of poisoning him. Hence, the first arc is him navigating the capital while trying to find out the truth and search for a cure. Then the rest of the story is him navigating his relation to the empire and external forces.

Very heavy focus on romance. Lots of time is spent on relationship and slice of life. Well paced. Well written. Good foreshadowing and plot device usage without feeling cliche or overused. MC is already strong and the world revers his martial arts. <<less
