Lin Dan is bound to an auxiliary system. She does tasks to maintain the plot of countless small worlds. Simply put, she is just a supporting role or cannon fodder, a stepping stone for others to achieve greatness.

Confusion, desperation, madness, loving who she can’t love, wanting what she can’t have: Lin Dan experienced too much loss and misery. When she finally achieved enlightenment and decided to unbind from the system and return to her original world, something interrupted her return journey and she was sent back into the three thousand worlds to continue struggling.

Although she lost her memory, Lin Dan was no longer confused. She decided to take her own path and finally discovered that she had to love herself before others could love her. As long as you live your life well, no matter how insignificant it seems, you will become a protagonist one day. If you bloom, the butterflies will naturally come.

For all that it has the usual tropes, scheming "female leads" and cannon fodders, face-slapping, reversals, this transmigration story is different in that romance isn't all that central to it. I'm not even sure if there is a real Male Lead. It focuses more on the MC and her journey to learning to put herself first. Learn to love yourself, before falling in love with others, is the message of the story.

Overall each arc is good, and gets better at later arcs especially ... more>>
Spoiler

my favorite arcs being the one where she forgoes being an unwanted lady wife and opts to become the next Mulan, the one where she becomes a supermodel with androgynous appeal, and the one where she finds she's a mother meeting her estranged daughter through a reality show

[collapse]
So if you're tired reading about female characters who are practically doormats for the guys they're in love with, this will be a refreshing change. <<less

At first I thought that it would be same with other transmigration cannon fodder novel, but I could not be more wrong.

First she did not know all the story thoroughly, most of arc she only know she is a wanderer, and then she only has memory until the time she come, she did not know how the fate of her body.

second she did not have a system, so she did not get the guidance

third I don’t thing there is dedicated male lead in each story, yes she met an awesome... more>> male character but whether she would end up with him or not is not set in stone.

but what makes this story interesting is that no matter where she is or what character is the original body, she would love herself first, she did not have obligation to do things or to help someone, she purely doing it with her consciousness. She strives to become happy first no matter what she do, she will put herself first.

love this story, and this is the first time I think that I want more arc and did not believe it ending with “only” 475 chapters <<less

The beginning was disappointing, later it picked up and was interesting, but was ups and downs depending on arcs. The ending was peculiar. I really would like to have a talent to express my thoughts in a short form, but I know it's a wishful thinking, so here we go.

  • My thoughts on the concept of this novel. Be ready for the unusual, after finishing it you understand that the novel is a spiritual journey (meaning that relationships you will see won't end up in the mainstream way). At least it should have been, why I think that will be explained when I'll touch on our protag. The idea of it all was to lose emotions of your heart and re-establish your feelings. Although at this point I have a question and a note. If you read at least few arcs, you know that Lin Dan lost her memories every time, so she comes quite empty into every world, this happens ever time. So to me the way she actually regained something was expressed in the last third part of the story. But tbh, I still think it wasn't really realized into reality well, simply because every arc had a story and sometimes Lin Dan wasn't even the front of it, and while we think we explore her world, but I say we explore her actions, not her heart. We see her goals, but not her abundant feelings. Anyway, the author tried to culminate her exploration of feelings, but also emphasized on her freedom of heart.
  • Lin Dan. Honestly, to me author danced really near describing her as a highly-functional sociopath lol. She is described like a "desireless heart" and it's true, she has many good characteristics about her (rightfulness, not afraid of hardships, person of action, principled etc.), but her heart is like calm water. Yet the overall common good thing that can be said is - we see a self-reliant and independent woman, she doesn't need anyone to achieve success. But there's a part of her character that I don't really understand, maybe that what makes her a bit Mary Su. Repaying kindness is her good trait, but sometimes I think she gives way more than she receives. Though contradictory to it, she has her pride and when she doesn't give a damn she won't listen. But it all is put together under the banner that she voluntarly does so for emotions it can bring. So, with the theme of spiritual journey we go, getting back some of her emotions and joy of life.
  • Diversity of images. I find it interesting that bodies Lin Dan occupies have different appearance and age. We don't follow the usual image of a young and beautiful woman. We can start at age 13 up to early 40s, although if original owner suffers from anything later Lin Dan fixes it with her medical skills. Yet I'd like to note that in majority of arcs she's still pretty.
  • Freedom of heart, joy of life. Tbh I don't know why author double-downed on it in Arc 8 Cannon fodder's mother. The situation was with the man who chased her in he arc, he told her how she ate just not to starve and lived her life as a task and it was the moment when it downed on her how right he was. The thing I find tricky about it is 1) We perceive the novel as a whole thing, but I think we should remember the elaboration how she doesn't remember who she is in every new world, so every world is like a new start. Thus somehow the journay to regain her heart happens, but the backstory of it has loose foundation; 2) When in Arc 8 her task-like life was mentioned and that she "doesn't enjoy life", I really couldn't agree, at least the novel put other things to oppose this idea. E.g. Starting from Arc 1, Lin Dan roamed the country when she was done and she joyfully traveled, same happened in Arc 2. In Arc 3, she mostly marched the country too, in consequent arcs although there is no aftermath (as per usual), but at least she enjoys her learning process. She doesn't like to attach herself to one place or on level and always strives for a challange or a new height. So I see her as quite a free person. As for joy of life and her emotions, tbh because stories were more prominent than dvelving in her emotions it was quite bleak with few bursts, but this happens in later arcs when she openly wants to enjoy, or indulge. Yet when we arrive at the end of the novel, we meet again that calm heart and in the end she does what she wants like many times before.
  • Stories. Basically each arc had some human story or a theme. The variety is large, considering the number of chapters :D Complexity may not be much, but some are quite touching. Also the theme of a woman in a society is quite frequent among others. Women in feudal and modern society, restrictions and prejudices. E.g. Arc 6, the Gu girl, where Lin Dan gets extremely beautiful, which causes envy and rumors, in Arc 7, End of days, many people think that Lin Dan got where she got through bed, in Arc 12, Pride and prejudice, because LD dresses well, again her achievement are labeled as going through backdoor. I don't mention fate of secondary characters who were not in the "pretty" category etc. And this is only part of it.
  • Secondary characters. A good part of this novel are actually secondary characters, because some themes or achievements are shown through them. And by them I mean female characters mostly. E.g. Empress Du in the Embroiderer arc, which describes possibility of female power on the throne, next is depression, told through daughter in Cannon fodder's mother arc. Also Lin Dan attracts other people who tag along, men or women, through whom we can see good in people. Through the "villains" in stories we not only see the vicious heart, but also they are all put in contrast to Lin Dan. Like for example the abundant theme of villains is taking shortcuts, which I don't know if it's connected to the beginning of the story (story described in the very first chapter).
  • Romance? Nah. It's a one-man show. In general even if relationships and marriage are present, they end up not being the main focus at all and not disturbing the outcome. Before finishing I was a little confused where author wanted to rule the fact that in majority of worlds Lin Dan ended up in marriage or in a relationship. Mainly I find it was for developing helping her heart heal, since she originally was hurt by doing so much, but getting nothing and only being a foil.
    Spoiler

In the end when Lin Dan gets back to the world described in the first chapter and when that world ends, she goes her own way, her heart is free from previous obsession, she finally saw how chasing that man from world t world almost ruined her and she forgot who she was as a person.

    [collapse]
The situations of men around her were different, like there were those who had similar situation to her past, the man ate the White Lotus bit*h set and denounced Lin Dan, but later regretted, many men were attracted only to Lin Dan from start to finish, sometime chasing, sometimes just admiring, most of those were gentlemanly. But despite everything the main point always was - things I can do, I can do without your help.
  • The ending. At the end I was quite satisfied by what happened. Although it was silly how it took a long time for the man Lin Dan chased previously to realize that the woman he loved was a green tea b*tch. I thought with so much experience (even Lin Dan is described to see through ppl at first sight) he should have guessed, but I guess the love is blind. As for Lin Dan, I liked her choice.
Conclusion: I can't say I didn't like it, for me beginning was torturous (I hate gourmet themed novels and stories due to their boredome and there was enough cooking through novel), I just skipped those parts. Later it got more energetic and worlds were different, so I got into it. The idea of it is interesting, pity sometimes execution suffered, but in general it was a nice read and I actually liked that it was long. I still find God of War the best arc of all.

Tidbits: Most memorable moments to me were. In Arc 1: Lin Dan talking to Marquise, who led troops to war, she talked about suffering people who had to eat soil and died unjustly, just because of people with motives in high position. In Arc 3: General Lin Dan gets back for the Emperor's B-Day banquet, the sent as tribute princess wanted to prickle Lin Dan for not presenting talent, but Lin Dan answered that her talent is to kill and she also was the one who killed princess's father, she can set off anytime again to kill princess's brother. In Arc 5 (Genius doctor) Lin Dan had humorous bickering with the eldest son. Lin Dan's often phrase - with me here, everything will be fine.

At first I was a bit iffy about reading this novel after seeing some reviews but I am SO GLAD I gave it a chance.

After being betrayed by her partner who was swayed by someone else, Lin Dan who's finally accumulated enough points from the system decides to go to her original world. However during this transaction an unknown energy source appeared where not only does Lin Dan forget everything but continues her world hopping journey.

Lin Dan, goes on these missions now not to fulfill some role in the world... more>> but she gets to live for herself. We get a hardworking, indifferent MC who strives to improve herself in whatever the world's circumstances gives her. No, there's not a lot of romance (at least in most of the first arcs) or what people might think is 'satisfying' for QT worlds but instead we're given the journey of Lin Dan who tries to fill that hole of emptiness within her and find true happiness in life.

I am adoring this novel with it's never ending surprises and I'm rooting for my girl Lin Dan, who shows even though there might not seem like theres a way, there's always a way for new beginnings. <<less

It started out pretty well. I liked how the FMC said f u to the fake ML and decided to do what she wanted. The first two or three arcs were her focusing on her own strengths. Later on, she learned different kinds of emotions on how to love and enjoy life too. The annoying (fake) ML still showed his face in several arcs but I am glad FMC had enough strength to not give a f about him. I liked the soft love interest she had in a few... more>> arcs where the man chased her and followed her while maintaining a respectable distance. It was a healthy and a cute relationship that had me soft. Towards the latter arcs, things got a bit monotonous since we had already established the fact that FMC is OP. But what also annoyed me is that I saw signs of domineering (fake) ML showing up again. I don't know if there is a relation between that man and fake ML but yeah. The end was extremely disappointing because it turned out to be...
Spoiler

the fake ML regretting and being s*upid enough to fall for someone's scheme

[collapse]
and FMC saved him. I wish she had left him.

In the latter arcs, the person I suspect to be fake-ML starts becoming more and more powerful which is annoying because it undermines FMC and makes it look like the only reason she won was because the insanely OP fake ML decided to 'let' her win which I felt like ruined the plot for me.

Also, I was disappointed that there was no scene of catharsis where FMC just... lashed out. She was always calm, way too calm. I wish I saw a humane moment out of her. Even in the start when she despaired, she chose self-destruction over.... just making him regret. I do like that it showed the true theme well where the author wishes to convey 'keep calm, focus on yourself and live your best life without making someone else responsible for your life and happiness'. Apart from that, over all is a good start but gets okayish and a little frustrating towards the end.

It is also very easy to read the MTL version. I hope there are more such novels translated in the future. ^-^ <<less

Highly, highly recommend!!

This is unique in the type of arcs there are. There's are standard types like apocalypse, medical, etc, but there's always a spin on them. For example:

Spoiler

in the medical arc, she is transported to ancient times and learns Chinese medicine which she supplements with knowledge she learned in the cultivation world.

[collapse]

I enjoyed pretty much all of them. There are arcs where she learns how to be a good person, how to be a mother and do her best for her child, how to be grateful to someone without letting them encroach on your life, how to repay gratitude, just how to manage human relationships honestly. I loved the mc's character development. The author actually did a really good job with that which I find is kind of rare of qt/world hopping novels. The first arc is probably the shallowest? It's still an entertaining read and I loved the face slapping, but other than giving her the cooking skill that she uses in the rest of the arcs, it didn't add too much to the MC besides her indifference to men who've 'betrayed her' for the white lotus. It's definitely a necessary arc though to establish her and her personality though.

There isn't really any good romance here although in some arcs she still chooses to get married. NOTE: THE POINT OF THIS NOVEL IS NOT ROMANCE AND THEREFOR THIS ISN'T REALLY IMPORTANT!!! It's rather light honestly because it's not 1 vs 1 quick transmigration. All the ml's in each arc are different people, but she doesn't feel like a stone cold bit*h since she's also losing her memory of them when she moves on.

But honestly, although the ml's are usually rather good, the romance isn't very satisfying because I can't feel her attraction to them all the time. In some arcs, she doesn't get together with the ML at all even though they fall for her. In others she agrees due to convenience and they (the ml's) know it. While she has feelings for the people who treat her well, it's usually platonic. Later on, as she matures, there's more and more romance in the plot in the later transmigration arcs.
Spoiler

In one arc she marries a doctor in the apocalypse and in the life after she even catches a glimpse of him through her memories and feels sad as she has a feeling he treated her gently.

[collapse]

The whole stories concept is her learning how to live and live for herself instead of for someone else. She starts off as a blank slate in each arc with only her indifferent personality and her skills that she's worked hard to master in previous worlds, she learns a little more about how to be a person.

My only real criticism is that the endings are abrupt. I mean that in the sense of both in the qt worlds and in the actual novel itself. It cuts off at weird places. Other than that though, it's wonderful.

Truly this is one of the best quick transmigration novels I've ever read. I was expecting it to be good due to the author's other qt work (Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil), but this one is so much better in my opinion because there aren't any cop-outs like in that (the one arc where he suddenly has the ability to enter dreams that's really only added for that one arc with little plausible explanation). The only arc I didn't particularly like enough was the model in the industry arc, but I'm sure others would still enjoy it. <<less

Although technically a quick transmigration, this novel is somewhat unique in that the MC basically is experiencing all these worlds after a glitch causes her to get amnesia each time. She mostly relies on instinct and her own personality being practical in order to better the lives of the bodies she transmigrates into, but she does have an instinctual knowledge of all the skills she accumulates in the various worlds. For example, in the first world, she spends years learning to be a great chef, and retains that skill in... more>> the next worlds.

I won't say that this novel is perfect; as with most QT novels, there are good arcs and bad arcs. There are a few excellent arcs that I come back to re-read often, but some terrible arcs that I basically only read that first time and never want to read again. As the arcs progress, it takes her less and less time to obtain an absurd level of mastery with some skills. She's always the best of the best at everything she learns to do, which... can be over-the-top at some points.

Overall, however, I would say the pluses outweigh the negatives with this novel. Due to her "amnesia" with each arc, there is no 1v1 romance here. She sometimes has relationships but sometimes doesn't, and I think that makes things more interesting and I like the overarching theme that you need to love and respect yourself first before entering into a romantic relationship.

My individual ratings on each arc, with some spoilers:

Spoiler

Arc 1: Ancient world foodie. Basically the starting point, she learns to be a master chef in this arc, which is one of her most used and most useful skills in the future. Probably why the author started with this skill. Goes abruptly from a cooking competition/foodie type of story to suddenly a war and political upheaval in like the last 2 chapters, so it's a little awkward. No pairing. Overall 3/5.

Arc 2: Cultivation type world. Shorter than the first arc, but I think a better story, less time wasted with unnecessary details. I think this arc was more for us to understand her personality better when it comes down to it, and I appreciated that. No pairing. 4/5.

Arc 3: Ancient world again, but awesome. One of the top arcs in this novel, it starts off as a regular daughter of a noble family being framed type of story, and then just charges past that into like an awesome Mulan-type arc where she becomes a general in the army and goes off to kick ass and take names. No pairing, just awesomeness. 5/5.

Arc 4: Ancient world yet again, this time with embroidery. She becomes an embroidery master in this one. I would say that the time it takes her to become this unparalleled embroidery master is just a little unrealistic, but it takes longer for her skills to become known. First world with her getting married, but not really romantic on her part, just on his part, but we do see a lot of him in this arc so it seems more natural that they get together. 3/5.

Arc 5: Ancient world, divine doctor. As per the name of the arc, she learns to be a divine doctor with ancient Chinese medicine and acupuncture in this one. This is a skill that she leans heavily on in the future, which adds a lot more to the unrealistic nature of some of the future arcs since, well, the whole divine doctor genre is in itself pretty unrealistic when it comes to medical skills. It also doesn't take her all too long to learn these skills from books, by far the least amount of time she takes to become an expert at something. I still enjoyed it. She does have a pairing in this one, and it's a little more active on her side. 4/5.

Arc 6: Weird stuff involving Gu worms and ghosts in the modern world that dragged on way too long. I did not like this arc at all and only read it once, 1/5.

Arc 7: Zombie apocalypse. Unique take on the whole powers thing, I think my impression of this arc is higher just in comparison to how I did not enjoy the previous arc. There is a pairing in this one but I could take it or leave it. He was weird but I guess she liked that, lol. 4/5.

Arc 8: Modern world/entertainment industry, but slightly different in that she was the middle-aged mom of a daughter in the industry and they were doing a variety show. One of my favorite arcs, actually. I liked how she started off as an older character and tried to be a good mom to this adult daughter. Of course she displays her amazing cooking skills and her unrealistically good medical skills and embroidery, but I still enjoyed every single part of this arc. I would say there is romance in this one, where she is being pursued and I think it's implied at the end that she accepted, but it's not outright stated like in the previous ones, which is a shame because I actually really liked the guy and wanted more details, lol. 5/5.

Arc 9: Modern world, student/business-type setting, kind-of? She transmigrates into a gold-digger girlfriend of a rich guy and of course is not a gold-digger, but she does stay his girlfriend despite not wanting to due to his mom being her sponsor that helped her get out of a bad situation and get education. So she's grateful to his mom, and helps out their family even after he (believing she's a gold digger) cheats and does a lot of shit. She helps run their family business and ends up at Harvard conducting research, so she learns business skills in this world. No pairing, even though technically she starts off as a girlfriend, there's really no involvement on her part even if others end up interested in her as well. 3/5.

Arc 10: Modern world, modeling industry runway queen. It mostly involves western people in the western modeling industry setting, so of course it's terrible. Lots of exaggeration, over-the-top characters, and unrealistic praise of "exotic Chinese beauty" that is super unique and unlike anything else in the world, etc. Typical of a Chinese novel set outside China. Also drags on forever. I believe there's romance, but it was also blah. 0/5.

Arc 11: Modern world, but poor village student setting. Her grandfather ends up in the hospital and she needs to make money for the bills and food. Some rich kids come stay next door as part of a variety show? They're hooligans or whatever and she ends up setting them straight which earns their families gratitude and they help her get into a better school in the city. There was romantic interest but no settled pairing, can't really remember much more, this one was boring but not terrible. 3/5.

Arc 12: Modern world, fashion industry. She transmigrates into a woman who wanted to seduce the president of the company. She becomes a successful fashion designer, but it seemed like she didn't really have to learn anything and was just good at it at this point. Becomes roommates with a girl who rescued a snobby cat, cat turns out to be the president of the company. His human body and cat body both share consciousness, but both bodies operate independently? Not sure how that works too much as I MTL'd this arc. But he falls in love with MC based on how he sees her at home as a cat. I think in the original timeline he and the roommate would get together, but in this case he and the roommate compete to be MC's favorite, lol. More romance centric than the other arcs, I enjoyed the change of pace. 5/5.

Arc 13: Ancient world, different in that MC starts out as a spirit who tries to guide a countryside woman who was fooled by her husband. But the woman didn't listen to MC's advice and ended up alienating her kids who took the husband's side. The woman then died in outrage, and when the MC woke up, she was in the woman's body, which was reborn back in time when the husband's betrayal was first found. But her kids and husband were also reborn and plotting against her, so MC then cuts off all ties to them and goes off and becomes a taoist? Heals people with elixirs, drives off evil spirits, etc. No pairing. 3/5

Arc 14: Cultivation world, the original world before the system glitch happened that catapulted her across worlds without memory. She was originally a quick transmigrator before, so this was also a transmigration world, not her world of birth. She had a partner that she transmigrated with and liked, but he fell in love with a native from one of the worlds they visited and used his system to have her reincarnate into various worlds he and MC traveled to. Before this novel MC wanted the man, but now after experiencing everything she goes off to do her own thing. This arc was hard to read MTL, I always have trouble with MTL'ing cultivation worlds, but eventually the partner realizes the other girl was using him and regrets alienating MC. Open ending, but also hopeful. No pairing. 4/5.

If you're going into this thinking that it'll be like other QT novels where the heroine jumps worlds and the male lead immediately falls in love with her and travels across the worlds with her because star crossed lovers overall plot point, then toss those thoughts out right now.

I was pretty hesitant to read this at first. It didn't really sound like the standard QT novels I want to read, and I sort of just stumbled on it by chance. Ultimately though, I like the author for the most part,... more>> so I just decided to read it.

This is not a story about romance. Which, if I had looked more closely on NU beforehand, I would have known LMAO. So I went in thinking this would be like any other QT story, but it really wasn't similar to the QT stories I usually read. I prefer the types like I described above, because for me, I like reading stories featuring heavy romance, even if it's unrealistic. Kinda like my guilty pleasure, ya know?

To be honest, I have some mixed feelings about the story, but ultimately, the overall story was good and it made me happy.

This is a story about the heroine learning to love herself, put herself first, and let go of things that for her, aren't meant to be. There usually isn't a set pair for the FL and the ML, but she does gain happiness in the end of each arc, and sometimes that means she has a family, other times it means she's by herself but usually she's got like 3 or 4 guys who pine after her the entire time haha.

Most of the arcs are pretty short and easy to read. I like this, because there are also a lot of QT stories that have arcs that are needlessly long whereas in this one, most arcs are short and to the point. We get face slapping, we get remorse from scum men, and overall we get happy endings for the FL.

I think what I liked most about this story is the heroine's rather stable character. She seems somewhat cold and unfeeling, which she acknowledges, however she has her principles, her bottom line, and she has a way of life that she lives by and she doesn't wrong herself for that. She knows that she lacks feelings, so to make up for it, she always adheres by her way of life, her principles and her bottom line. I honestly really appreciated this type of heroine.

All that being said, the story still felt like it was missing something for me. When it ended, I wasn't particularly happy, nor was I particularly sad. I was mostly just baffled, and somewhat disappointed. But then I thought about it some more, and I felt that the ending was actually probably the most suitable ending for our heroine Lin Dan.

It wasn't really a 5 star story to me, but it wasn't a 3 star story either. I feel like 4 stars is just right.

Anyways if you want a QT story that doesn't focus heavily on romance, then I feel like this is probably good for you. <<less

I sometime dislike character of MC. She is like servant and maid to everyone and doesn't look or care for her. Romance is manipulated and force, it feel like ML manipulate her to marry him. She is naive and dense, that's why ML manipulated her. I don't see her love him. There is some arcs, I hate arrogant ML such a cat arcs, he is s*upid and judge people.

There are some arcs that's interesting such a mother/daughter. I rate 3 star for this arcs.

The only thing I dislike about this novel is romance and character of MC. She is too virg*n, caring and like maid to characters. She act like cold when she isn't cold person. It's so annoying. I also don't like MLs of some arcs.

Some characters or passerby are s*upid and illogical, they only appear to tear down MC and created false rumor and bully MC. It's too annoying.

This is one of the best novels I've ever read. At first, I thought it was just one of those novels where the female protagonist goes through heart break at first and then goes through world through world with a man helping her but I couldn't be more wrong. I have read too much novels with the theme of transmigration in which the villainess end up finding the same man in each world but this one doesn't do that. Although she transmigrates into the role of the villainess, she doesn't... more>> revenge or anything but lives life. The author also adds points of views from the other characters too though mainly Lin Dan <3

Spoiler

As many have stated there is no male lead and I am happy there is none because no men really deserves MC. Though there are various men that do fall for her in different worlds but she is kyutely dense about it. I was worried on how it would end but I'm happy that it wasn't a bad end because in the end, MC got to live her life doing what she wanted. The author to this novel was very detailed and I feel I learned a lot actually with all types of food, embroidery, and there were comedic undertones in couple of areas which I found funny such as in the MC and daughter arc. KYAAA I am just happy to have finished reading and would read again. I wish there were more of this type of novel because it's very different but at the same time, MC feelings were relatable. She's just a single woman living through life and I love the feminism aspects added to the novel.

Honestly one of the best transmigration novels I've read! The MTL is easy to understand and you really cheer on the MC (who is quite likeable). Rather than a complete romance novel, it focuses more on the growth of MC as she learns how to overcome the emptiness inside her.

I rarely finish all the chapters of a novel of this length, especially a world hoping one as the stories start to get tedious but each story was a good length and even though the novel doesn't explicitly say she finds... more>> romance at the end of each world, I'm surprisingly okay with it. A few were quite moving, I especially like the doctor one, the zombie one, and the mother reuniting with her estranged daughter one.

This is definitely a novel I will revisit over and over again! <<less

One of, if not the best, quick transmigration stories I've ever read. If you had to only read one quick transmigration story, this one should be it. I've not read a story before or since completing this novel that was quite like it. Lin Dan is an amazing protagonist. However, while I love Lin Dan, I do have some problems with the novel that stops it from being a full five stars for me. I quite enjoyed the ancient arcs/worlds, but when Lin Dan starts traveling to modern worlds, I... more>> feel like the quality of the storylines drop. Another thing is the romantic interests. Every romantic interest in each world is a different person, they are not the same guy. Again, I think the romantic interests in the ancient arcs/worlds were much better than the modern ones. I also liked that Lin Dan was not perfect in the beginning of the story. Like in the first world, she is not "beautiful", just a great chef. However, in later worlds, she becomes stronger and stronger, in martial arts, cooking, medical skills, etc. She can magically fix the imperfections in her body. So yes, in the later arcs/worlds, Lin Dan is a lot like other QT protagonists who are already beautiful, smart, strong, etc.

Here is my full review of the novel, with a break down of each arc (copy pasted from another review website) :

Spoiler

A really good quick transmigration novel about a female protagonist who has spent lifetimes completing missions as cannon fodder, but is then disconnected from her system and transmigrates to different worlds with no memory, learning to live for herself and not others so she is no longer cannon fodder. Anyway, what I love about Lin Dan is that the story is always about her focusing on her own self growth and journey. It's because of this that in the beginning of the novel, there isn't even a guy that she gets together with. Even in the later arcs/worlds in the novel when romance is more prominent, Lin Dan only gets the guy after improving herself. I love the novel's message of living for yourself and not others.

Despite my praise for the main character Lin Dan, overall, I give this novel an 8/10. The reason I give it a B- despite its great protagonist and plot, is the love interests. While romance is not a main focus of the story, as it is always about Lin Dan, inevitably she does attract admirers. In the first half of the novel with its ancient/historical worlds and arcs, there was no romance and if there were admirers of Lin Dan, there was usually at least one very well characterized male lead. However, I find that the latter half of the novel set in modern worlds has comparably less good male leads. Rather, I find them lacking, if not borderline annoying. I will outline the worlds/arcs below, making note of when the novel diverges from historical worlds to modern day era worlds.

Arc 1: Chef

- Cooking is described in amazing detail.

- Ending was a bit anticlimactic, with a sudden war, but the way Lin Dan resolved it was very clever.

- Male lead is a marquis, who later becomes emperor, who knew Lin Dan as a child and judged her in a cooking competition. Later, they meet as adults again when he becomes a soldier. Respects her decision to be a chef and not marry at the end of the arc. Even though he loved her, he understood what made her happy was wandering the world, going to new places to learn new recipes and to cook for others.

- The "original female lead" (a girl in each arc/world who was the original heroine of the plotline, before Lin Dan transmigrates to each world) of this arc is also a chef. In the cooking competition that Lin Dan participated in when she was younger, she was competing against the original female lead. One thing I like about the author is that they will make the original female leads, at least in early worlds, formidable opponents for Lin Dan, so Lin Dan actually has to get better at her skills in order to compete against them. The original female lead is a very good chef, as her father was also a chef. Her father and Lin Dan's father were students under the same cooking master, the original female lead's grandfather. When the master was old and dying, it was Lin Dan's father who took care of him, not even his own son. Everyone thinks that Lin Dan's father stole his recipes/technique book and tools, but he was actually gifted this by the master. So Lin Dan's family recovers the fame that should have been theirs, but was stolen by the original female lead's famiily and slandered.

Arc 2: Warrior

- Very short arc.

- Lin Dan becomes a cultivator who utilizes a cultivation method that is very painful/drives other people mad or kills them, but she masters it instead. She also gets a cool "knife sword".

- Male lead is a powerful cultivator who accompanies Lin Dan on her travels. He was ready to kill her in case she goes berserk, but that never happens, and he is happy because he didn't want to kill her. No romance, just travel companions.

- The original female lead was a girl who was brought into the sect that Lin Dan was originally a part of, to marry the sect leader's son. The sect that Lin Dan was originally part of adopted her. It was because of the sect master that Lin Dan had to learn the painful cultivation method that would have killed her if she didn't master it. The sect master knew this, but still allowed Lin Dan to learn it, because Lin Dan was a sort of bodyguard for his son. His son doesn't care about Lin Dan either. Lin Dan gets her revenge on them, and then travels with the male lead around the world to kill cultivators who have been committing crimes/atrocities against non-cultivators/mortals. The original female lead got her hands on the method Lin Dan used to cultivate, but died because she couldn't handle it.

Arc 3: Goddess of War

- Lin Dan's family is a famous military family. Her father/grandfather/brother, all males in her family have been soldiers. After her grandfather was killed in battle, and her father captured by the enemy side, and only her younger brother left, Lin Dan joins the army to avenge her family. She proves herself time and time again, and eventually becomes the general. They defeat the enemy side, and Lin Dan spends the rest of her life as a soldier protecting her country.

- The male lead is a scholar who was married to her in his past life, mistakenly believed she was his source of trouble, but then realized the truth when he came back to life. He regrets that he misunderstood her in his past life, and can only watch her from the side in his second life.

- The original female lead is a relative of Lin Dan's. She was the one who orchestrated a scheme to get Lin Dan and the male lead married in his past life. She was the woman the male lead originally loved in his past life, and part of the reason then why he couldn't accept Lin Dan in his last life. In this life, he attempted to marry her, but then discovered her deception in both his lives, which leads him to break off the marriage.

Arc 4: Embroiderer

- Lin Dan becomes a skilled embroiderer.

- The male lead is a very wonderful guy who was interested in Lin Dan ever since he and his sister met her. They are the niece/nephew to the Empress, who was deposed, but later given back her position after the emperor begs for her to come back. Male lead is often at battle, but still comes back for Lin Dan. Lin Dan and his sister open a shop together.

- The original female lead of arc 4, unlike the last three, is very pitiful. She is a famous embroiderer. It is only unfortunate for her that because of her brother, she had to suffer the consequences. Her brother hates Lin Dan's family because he thought that Lin Dan's father killed their father. So the brother opens up an embroidery shop to directly compete with Lin Dan's family, steals all their wealth and resources, and leaves Lin Dan's family in ruins. The original female lead can't compete with Lin Dan when Lin Dan becomes an embroiderer better than her. This all culminates at the end of the arc, when both of them make dresses for the two empresses. Lin Dan makes a dress for the formerly deposed Empress. The original female lead makes a dress for the consort empress, the concubine who became the #1 consort of the emperor after he deposed the Empress. Obviously, Lin Dan's dress is better, so the original female lead has her fingers broken so she can never embroider again, by the consort Empress. The original female lead has her fingers healed, but she can never embroider like she used to. She takes up teaching other women to embroider, after embroidery becomes popular because of Lin Dan.

Arc 5: Doctor

- Lin Dan becomes an ancient doctor (i.e. Acupuncture and using needles, along with knowledge of herbs, etc.).

- Male lead is the man who the original Lin Dan, not the transmigrator, disabled. But, transmigrator Lin Dan cures him, and he and Lin Dan get together at the end of the arc. Very touching, because the male lead never blamed Lin Dan. Also, he was disabled because he saved her life.

- The original female lead is a surgeon who reincarnated in ancient times. You feel bad for her because she has none of the modern technology, so of course she has to rely on other ancient doctors to supplement her knowledge. Also, because she is a doctor, she never takes someone's life, and admits when she is wrong. She is pitiable, like the OG female lead of the embroidery arc. She has to "fake" her medical knowledge just to survive in the ancient world.

-------- Modern arcs, start of where I consider the novel's dip in quality, especially regarding the male leads. Also, while in previous arcs, Lin Dan had no knowledge of and had to acquire skills like cooking, embroidery, and medical knowledge, now that she has those skills, even wihout memories, she is overpowered and never struggles. In the first arc, the author made it clear how Lin Dan wasn't the prettiest, but in later worlds, i.e. Modern worlds, Lin Dan can just fix her appearance with her medical skills. And the green tea bit*h female antagonists/original female leads are just less interesting. -----------

Arc 6: Witch

- Lin Dan has magical powers to control and breed magical bugs/insects.

- Annoying male lead, a clingy, childish guy who Lin Dan is initally even attracted to just because his blood is delicious to supernatural beings/spirits like her. Also, there is a creepy villain this arc, who saw her when she was naked, and is a hundreds of years old spirit who eventually gets his own corporal body. Yandere, "if I can't have you, no one can" type for Lin Dan. Doesn't let her marry.

- The original female lead is a girl who is a part of the supernatural world's "enforcement", kind of. That is, they protect the order between the supernatural and mundane world. She, along with her male lead (who is the actual male lead of this arc, Lin Dan's clingy male lead is technically a 2nd male lead who used to be interested in the OG female lead) have to protect Lin Dan's male lead because he attracts spirits with his body. I really hate her; she is intolerable, along with arc 2's original female lead. The original female lead of this arc actually almost caused the end of the world! Because she didn't listen to her superiors about not disturbing a grave site, so she dug it up, caused the angry spirits/corpses/etc. To reanimate and almost flood the world. If it weren't for Lin Dan's timely intervention, everyone would have died.

Arc 7: Apocalypse

- Zombies. Lin Dan has water powers that initially are weak, but she learns to use them in clever ways. Even though she can only control water, she learned to change their properties down to their molecular level, freezing/boiling water, etc.

- Male lead is a guy who only kept Lin Dan around as a maid basically, to wash and disinfect his things with her water powers. Genius who creates a cure to zombies, and other inventions.

- Original female lead is a reincarnator. She chose the wrong guy to protect in the apocalypse. Instead of Lin Dan's doctor, the one who actuallycreated the zombie cure, she chose the guy who stole his work instead. So when the original female lead reincarnated, she was not aware of this and is doomed because of it.

Arc 8: Cannon Fodder's Mom

- This time, Lin Dan is the mother of an idol who was cannon fodder and fated to die because of her shi*ty sister-in-law and mother-in-law, and birth father. Her birth father left Lin Dan to remarry, and Lin Dan's daughter had a terrible time in their household, being neglected, only given her sister's leftovers, etc.

- I like this arc because we see Lin Dan as a mother for the first time.

- "Best of the worst" male lead. Even though the modern arcs always have the worst male leads, one or two of them are okay. Like this guy. He is the famous businessman uncle of the idol daughter's love interest, a popular actor.

- I don't like this arc becase it's part of a reality tv show where idols/celebrities spend time with their family, so Lin Dan does a lot of stuff for the camera. Shows off her skills. In this arc, she uses her doctor skills to save a mother giving birth. I don't like that the author makes ancient Chinese medicine look so much better, and like Western modern medicine is inferior, when in fact, modern medicine is more sanitary, and you can do more with technology.

- The original female lead of this arc, I'm assuming, is Lin Dan's daughter's mean step sister. In the original storyline, it was the stepsister that ruined her sister's career and life. She spread rumors that her sister took drugs, etc. And eventually her sister killed herself. Also, Lin Dan's daughter's love interest, the actor, originally believed the stepsister. If it wasn't for Lin Dan's intervention in this world, he would have gotten together with her like in the original storyline.

Arc 9: "Gold-digger"

- Lin Dan is the girlfriend of a rich boy whose mother is her sponsor for college. Later breaks up with him. No male lead this arc. Ex-boyfriend still loves her, even when dying. Other guy is his roommate, kind of a douchebag. Looked down on Lin Dan thinking she was a gold digger, always gets upset for the s*upidest reasons. Another guy, the third guy, typical rich CEO character who uses his power to supress others. Lin Dan does not get together with any of them. By the end of the arc, she wins the Nobel Peace Prize and has cured terminal illness/disease.

- I really respect Lin Dan in this arc. Because her ex-boyfriend's family is on the verge of bankruptcy, in order to repay her ex-boyfriend's mother for all that she has done, Lin Dan helps recover their business/company. She is pregnant with her ex-boyfriend's child. Her ex-boyfriend's mother has an illness, and his father would have killed himself, were it not for Lin Dan encouraging him to live for their grandchild. Luckily, she recovers their business, and no longer needs to have the child and throw her life away/be a mother at a young age.

Arc 10: Queen of the Runway

- Lin Dan is a famous supermodel.

- Male lead is a famous singer. He treats her well, love at first sight for him. 2nd male lead is kind of pathetic. When he first met Lin Dan, he tried to get her to replicate one of his old models. Later, he designs a wedding dress for Lin Dan and the male lead, even when he couldn't have Lin Dan for himself/he still had feelings for her.

- Original female lead was the past "model" of the 2nd male lead.

Arc 11: Village Girl

- Lin Dan lives in a village with her grandfather, who recently broke his leg. She becomes self sufficient, takes care of him, etc. Because of the tv show, she becomes famous and eventually moves to the city to go to school.

- Male lead this arc is annoying. He and two of his buddies went to Lin Dan's village as part of a tv show where rich kids learn how to do work in the country. Him and his friends are teens, and yet they won't help when kids are bullied, and one kid is literally drowning. They apologize later and become "better" people, but that doesn't change the bullying they did in the past.

- The original female lead is the granddaughter of a woman who Lin Dan's grandfather was originally in love with, before finding out just how much of an awful person she is.

Arc 12: Pride and Prejudice

- Another reason I don't like the author of "Female Supporting Role Shows Out" is, other than them touting China and everything Chinese as the best (for example, ancient Chinese medicine is better than Western medicine), they will also deliberately get facts wrong. Like bibimbap, a KOREAN dish, is said to be a Chinese dish instead. Like, wtf? Bibimbap was most certainly not made in China. A simple Google search will tell you as much.

- In this arc, Lin Dan becomes a fashion designer.

-I love this arc because the original female lead is not a green tea bit*h like in other arcs. She is actually a genuinely nice, sweet, and caring person, who is practically in love with Lin Dan. Not literally, but you get the point. Several times I was rooting for the novel to turn into girl's love, but was reminded it wasn't because of the male lead.

-I hate this arc because of the male lead. The male lead in this arc is also a cat/shares minds with a black cat/etc. Hard to explain, but in short, he and the cat are basically the same person. Not literally, he does not turn into the cat, but he and the cat know what the other does. The black cat was found and adopted and nursed back to health by the original female lead, but then the cat became closer to Lin Dan. If the cat and the male lead were seperate, I would have no problem with this. But they aren't. The guy uses his knowledge from the cat to get closer to Lin Dan, like ordering her favorite cake, promoting her in the company, etc. Oh yeah, Lin Dan is his former secretary, but the original host was demoted to an assistant in the design department. Anyway, I hate plots like this because I find it creepy how the male lead uses his knowledge from his cat to get close to Lin Dan, all without her knowledge. She does NOT know he is the cat. I hate similar plots like this, like Groundhog Day, where the guy in that film is a creep who uses his knowledge of his countless days to woo the woman he is infatuated with. Pop Culture Detective made a VERY good video on this.

- I hate the male lead in arc 12 SO MUCH. He is a disgusting human being who uses the cat he shares minds with to eventually coerce Lin Dan and make her give in. From making the cat get run over by a car, to making the cat fall from a tree, he knows Lin Dan can't bear to have the cat injured after having it as a pet for so long. I hate him so much!

Arc 13: Reversal of Life

- The second to last arc is a return to the ancient world. I am so relieved the author decided to go back to the ancient world, because the modern worlds had worse plots, love interests, and characters compared to the ancient arcs.

- Lin Dan becomes a Taoist, runs her own temple, etc. She has a disciple who she teaches to become a doctor like her and treat people's medical conditions and illnesses.

- Lin Dan's male lead in this arc is the uncle of the young emperor. After saving his nephew's life, he had an incurable illness. Eventually, Lin Dan does cure him. He respects her a lot. He is similar to the male leads of the embroiderer/doctor arcs.

Arc 14: The Last Task

- An EPIC conclusion to this novel that ties in everything, and yet still leaves you yearning for more.

- In this arc, we meet the man aka the system agent who Lin Dan at the beginning of the novel was in love with, but couldn't be with because he cared about another woman.

- This is a cultivation world.

- Amazing callback to arc 2, when, after Lin Dan awakens her cultivation again, she wields the sword she did in arc 2.

- The female antagonist is a woman who deceived the male system agent over several lifetimes, pretending to lose her memory in each life in this world, so he would take care of her and make her stronger and protect her. She knew that he was a system agent, or at least that he had access to special system items. She was going to use one of these in this arc, her last life, to leave the world.

- Lin Dan is disconnected from her system, so she can't leave the world. She decided to save the world when it was ending, sacrificing her life. Several other cultivators, and hundreds of other people in the world gave their lives to save it.

- The male agent discovers the female antagonist's deception, and curses her to remain on the world forever/be forever in pain. When he finishes his task/leaves the world, he unbinds from the system and is no longer an agent. He discovers that Lin Dan at the last moment chose to bind with his system like he offered.

- The novel ends with Lin Dan running away, presumably to go to more worlds/more adventures to be had.

This novel was okay. It wasn't that good because there wasn't anything that interesting about it. It was very predictable and the dialogue was boring. Also, the background information of the MC was not presented clearly. I did not know that she lost her memory until I read the reviews. That part was very confusing for me.

Spoiler

I only read until arc 1 and stopped because it was boring. In arc 1, it just talked a whole lot about cooking and nothing else. It was very predictable that MC was going to go to the capital and defeat the people who were mean to her. Since the plot was predictable, the book did not focus on the romance but instead on the plot which makes the novel boring.

This was an amazing journey.

The writing is wonderful, the pace is perfect, the execution is brilliant but, most importantly, the CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT is Godly.

If you like Quick-Transmigration-Faceslapping, this will be the ultimate Faceslapper you never knew you needed.

It's been a while since I've found a novel I couldn't properly review because it's too good.

MTL completed.

Everything in this novel is over exaggerated.

But I'm gladly fooled in every arch. What more can I say, a confident woman that made me thinking perhaps I can be a better person in my life too. That for every struggle there'll always be a solution.

I love this novel, even thou the ending was kinda abrupt.

I love this book. But my favorite arc is the show where the daughter reunites with her mother after years of bitterness.

I appreciate the translators hard work, but I couldn't wait to find out what happens after, so... I mtl'd everything, and boy, I do not regret anything, Lin Dan is awesome, sometimes too Mary Sue, but I loved everything she did.

What a f**king badass woman.

Wow! Reading this, high five to the MC. She's so awesome. She's the total definition of INDEPENDENT AND DECISIVE. A great female character. Just so WOW!

Romance is NOT the focus here. It's all about the GROWTH of the MC as a person [like learning to love one's self first]. It's so refreshing. Her principle when it comes to...

  • a romantic partner is --- "With or without you, I can survive or be successful."
  • living is --- "To live/survive and achieve one's goals/dreams, I'll do them with my own strength. I can do it so I'll do it."
So yeah... It's SO GREAT!

Arc 1

Based on the reviews of people who've read much more of this novel this may not hold true for the rest, but as of chapter 25 (which is up to where the translation is at this point), be aware that probably 60% of this novel consists of descriptions of food / cooking techniques. Just... massive paragraphs that do absolutely nothing to move the story along. It kind of started feeling like I was reading a cooking school textbook and I started skipping quite a lot.

Arc 2

Much improved on the... more>> cookbook textbook from arc 1. I am a bit sad about the lack of established ML though. Mainly just because so far there's been a.. ML in both worlds but she just isn't interested, leading to some serious 2nd ML Syndrome... from the main ML. <<less

Easily one of the best quick transmigration novels I have ever read. I love the message behind this story and her progress throughout her lives was really sweet. Though some may disagree with her tactics and call her a pushover, I think her attitude is not wrong at all. I mean what did you expect from her? It is clearly stated numerous times that she is an indifferent individual at heart, why would she care about being mistreated and slandered if she does not feel anything? I really like her... more>> way of doing things, she strikes back with her own abilities and they realise that they cannot catch up with her at all. It's even more satisfying to know that most of the time she has forgotten their existence.

Although I implied that she has no feelings, I would say that Lin Dan does not bother with anyone because it is too much trouble. She is the type of person to repay debts and disappear right after. I love love love watching as she slowly starts to gain control of herself and becomes powerful in her own right, which is shocking considering most quick transmigration/world hopping novels almost always has the romantic partner as being the most almighty, while the MC is considerably weaker. I'm happy that even if she does get a partner, she is either equal or greater than him, and if she doesn't, it doesn't matter at all because she's a woman that can achieve greatness without any assistance. I like how she knows her worth and isn't affected by her old love because it does not define her.

Spoiler

The ending can be up to interpretation but for me I was so pleased by it! I'm so happy that Lin Dan is free from that scum guys shackles and can live however she likes. I hate him so much and hope he's miserable for the rest of his ugly ass life xoxo.
