(sweet and doting romance+charmer of everyone)

After binding with the system, Yu Huan became the ex-girlfriend of the male lead in every world. However, as a female supporting character, she would quickly be “eliminated” once the female lead appeared, since she was not the destined female lead.

Becoming the substitute for the male lead’s unattainable love, Yu Huan happily spent the male lead’s money on food, drink, and entertainment, waiting for the huge breakup fee from the male lead after the female lead returned to the country. But year after year, the female lead did not return…

This book consists of 16 series, including substitute romance stories, post-apocalyptic tales, countryside life, time-travel or inter-world crossover stories, true and fake heiress plots, Republic of China settings, fairy tales, martial arts adventures, CEO romances, and female-dominated worlds. Each story is filled with sweet and doting romance, where Yu Huan, as the charmer of everyone, enjoys the affection and pampering from the male leads.

This is a shoujo focused on romance primarily. And I think that sums it up pretty well.

Not sure why it's been rated so low. After reading all the available arcs, I'd rate this a 4. But because of the crazy low ratings, I gave it a 5. It's pretty accurate to the shoujo (maybe leaning a bit josei) romance genre. All the other genres listed come in and out depending on the arc. A bit immature writing for plot in the beginning but gets better with each arc. The author... more>> doesn't keep up with a repeating format for the arcs like a lot of QT novels do. This keeps things interesting. And not all arcs are happy endings. Overall entertaining. I'd say the first arc is the most standard romance comedy type arc. But it also sets up the MC's character and the story. In her first life, our MC was sick and assumably spoiled by her family. This sets the tone for her character in the first life. She's a bit naive and silly. The System's plot script has her making (incorrect) assumptions about ML's actions. The System is also a bit silly and dumb so they just compound on each other. This adds to the humor part. MC's character is a bit frivolous and lazy and very sociable but a little dumb. This stays fairly constant through the arcs. However, with the increasing life experiences (that she presumably didn't experience in her first life), she does mature and grow slowly. In the later arcs, I do feel I lose some of the enjoyment of MC's character as she adheres to the scripted character's personality and actions more.

I can't tell if the ML is the same through all the arcs. However, in all the arcs, ML is a highly competent and ambitious individual. He is devoted and doting to the MC. He essentially does not adhere to the (romance) plot and is targeting the MC. So I'm fairly certain the ML are not related to each other. I'm astounded by MC's mental stability (which I know, it's fiction so suspend my belief) because she's constantly falling in love and then later losing them when she changes worlds (which I assume offscreen it's after she dies in a world). There doesn't seem to be an overarching plot behind the system. This makes enjoying this story seem a tiny bit aimless. I was reading just to enjoy the different arcs. Sometimes I'd skim the ones I didn't care for. Pacing moves quickly. In terms of writing, it isn't bad but would be better with more dialogue. But the author does seem to get better as they rewrite more arcs. The setting and plots of the arcs themselves also improve with each arc. The arcs could be read as stand alone short stories. The arcs don't always have a complete story with a conclusive start to finish. Sometimes, it feels like an excerpt from a larger story. Some of the arcs (especially the later ones) begin with the MC having transmigrated awhile ago. The System doesn't appear too frequently but when it does, both MC and System have a cute relationship with each other. At a certain point, we don't even get script plots at the beginning of the arc. I think the author changes it up this way to keep things from getting too repetitive. The main focus of the arcs is on the romance between MC and ML rather than the script or anything else. Some beginnings and endings of an arc may be more satisfying than others. It may feel abrupt but think of them as short romance stories. The arcs aren't always happy endings btw. MC enjoys family love and romance in various arcs. But she is also doesn't seem reluctant to leave each world (but we don't always get the scene of when she leaves so that's not 100% known). Also, warning, the ads on the translator's page are ridiculous. It's basically impossible to click on anything to get to the next page. So unless you're using an ad blocker, I'd say it might be easier just to mtl. I use the "reader" view on my phone and that seems to help.

Spoiler

Each arc averages about 20 chapters

Arc 1 - modern day setting. ML is a college student who's pursued by MC (an arts student). During most of the story, ML has graduated and is the CEO while MC is still in college. It's in this story that we get a taste of MC's personality (she was sick and bed bound in her first life btw). Also ML is long term planning cold CEO who's only warm to MC. And the plot derailment - ML has always been in a mutual hate relationship with the plot!OG!FL and has been in love with MC. He played the long game to capture our MC. This first arc is a bit simpler in plot and writing.

Arc 2 - zombie apocalypse setting. The writing gets a bit more complex. There are a greater number of important characters in this arc than in previous arcs. MC is a zombie with human consciousness and ML is her childhood sweetheart.
Arc 3 - modern day setting but in the countryside - MC and ML have an arranged engagement as babies. ML is very poor but has an entrepreneurial goals because MC's scripted character rejects him for lack of money. By this arc, we know for sure that the script from the System is all nonsense.
Arc 4 - ancient setting. MC is a princess. Not all endings are happy 🥲

Arc 5 - modern setting. MC is a child accidentally switched at birth and recognized back. ML is a boyfriend MC made without realizing his identity in the script. The system seems to have given up as we don't get any updates from it; it seems the purpose of the system is to maintain the different worlds but we don't have details.

Arc 6 - republic of China setting. We start with no System intro on the script. It seems the story has already progressed to some degree. Our MC is bridenapped by the ML who is a military leader.
Arc 7 - fairy tale fantasy setting

Arc 8 - martial arts in ancient setting

Arc 9 - ancient setting with spoiled and ill MC. A bit sad this one.

Arc 10 - modern world online gaming situation. Once again our MC is the spoiled little lady of a wealthy family.
Arc 11 - modern day setting and MC is a minor celebrity in a love variety show. MC's background is that her character is supposed to be a money-grubber. I have mixed feelings about this arc. The person I thought would be the ML wasn't.
Arc 12 - modern day showbiz where MC is a secretary who's also a vampire. The System is back in check and now MC has to complete missions with rewards in place (but nothing said about punishments). ML is the president and her mission target.
Arc 13 - I think it's a medieval type setting since there's royalty and related period items? MC is a character that went from rich to poor and wants a wealthy husband. So she ends up with harem of three lmao. I didn't expect that at all. They're even on schedule 😂

Arc 14 - modern day - MC and ML are childhood sweethearts and grow up together

Arc 15 - modern day showbiz - MC is a vase actress

Arc 16 - cultivation world. Some foreshadowing here regarding a possible bigger plot behind the System (there's a glitch at the beginning of the arc). MC and ML are in the same sect but different cultivation groups. ML is reborn and in his second try; he regrets not holding on to MC in his first life so that's his goal here.

Arc 17 - modern setting. MC is a super vain and spoiled character. Each arc MC gets better at adhering to the character.
