Okay...I have read to ch 1000 and have to say that I never expected to find such a lovely, high quality novel here. This story reminds me of Our Second Master, and anyone who has read that will know that's high praise. Seriously, the interactions between this scarred, so called "ugly" girl and this crippled, deposed prince warmed my cold heart. So many times I swear my eyes got teary but not bc it was sad--just SO DAMN WHOLESOME. They both lived such hard lives, it was so fulfilling to see them finally find peace together.
Really a sweet story about healing and love and finding the simple happiness in life. Things get complicated with politics later on as they always do, but the simple moments is what made the story for me. Solid novel, great character development, healthy believable romance.... it was a breath of fresh air honestly.
The MTL is pretty easy to understand, I would recommend giving it a go. You won't regret it.

I registered on NU just to write this review. I am currently on chapter 230 so it is still early, but so far this is one of the sweetest series I have read.

It could be a bit slow from chapter 100ish - 200ish, but not much complaint whatsoever since the 'filler' is extremely sweet slice-of-life style moments building up their relationship, and FL's character and confidence. During this time we are given some snippets of the dark undercurrents of palace politics and crisis that prompted ML's being deposed to such... more>> wasteland.

Translation is now currently on chapter 113 (not sure why it is only listed as chapter 23 on NU? I am new here so I don't know), but I rushed ahead reading the raws (with the help of online dictionaries..) because this is really very good. I can't wait to read further of how they are plunged back from their little heaven in the wasteland to the sinister palace, the ML seems to be a smart one so I am looking forward to some face-slapping and revenge (later).

The side characters (the villains...) are great, not two-dimensional, and so far the most malicious (and brilliant) one turns out to be someone I never expected.... Give this a chance, unless you are diabetic because it's loaded with sugar.

Edit 07/05/21 - Completed raws.

Finished the raws about a month ago. When I wrote the previous review around chapter 230+, it was great and I loved the dragging but oh-so-sweet slice-of-life. But then around chapter 700-800 (or even earlier), it lost steam, became 2-dimensional, clichey, and glossing over many things. Still ok, except that the struggle to get to the top was suddenly resolved in extremely simple ways. It's like the MC's had extremely amazing luck that everything fell into place without them moving a finger.

The face-slapping and revenge I was eagerly waiting for, ehm..... turns out 'the Heaven' really had eyes, so the comeuppances were from karma/fate/whatever instead of the MC's revenge.

I feel the author is very good at romance and slice-of-life, and building conflicts (despite clichey), but he/she is not really interested at unravelling the problems, so all the build-ups feel like a huge balloon that goes out with a (tiny) wheeze, instead of a bang.

All in all, I still enjoyed it. Reading 1304 chapters + extras is not a waste of time. It worths it, just don't expect too much for the ending. <<less

At first, I didn't want to check it out as the majority of novels with more than 500 chapters are just bad preferring quantity over quality. It turns out that a chapter is in reality half of a standard chapter, so it was worth a try and I read ahead because I am sucker for story where the female lead has the upper hand and helps the poor, helpless man. The female lead is very likeable, she is a s*ave but faces difficulties with strenght and perseverance slowly helping the... more>> half-dead male lead. In the first 500 chapters, the story is basically a slice of life of their life together with little drama if not for the fact that the male lead is seriously injured. Many readers may find it boring but I like it, especially the fact that it takes a long time to recuperate from serious injuries with the risk that some injuries can't be completely healed.

The two leads grow together becoming affectionate and their interactions are cute and fluffly. I guess that the second part of the novel will focus on the revenge of the crown prince against those that almost killed him. <<less

NO OP MC ML WHOOP WHOOP!

My God, I can't believe after 5 years in here I finally able to read about non OP MC and ML. This is such a great novel all about love between weak people. Just because he was a Prince he really doesn't have a dark hand or a reserved army or anything - he's nothing. The FL finally able to shine unlike all other FL whose led by the wealth of the ML, this FL is the most clear white lotus that goes through thick... more>> and thin with ML. She is a bit s*upid and dumb but let's not blame her, her s*upidity is what makes her wholesome. <<less

I don't know why the rate for this novel is not high. But I really like the realistic plot of this novel. I think it's the first time I feel like reading a real deposed Prince, who hast lost everything his status, his wealth, his dignity, and his health. And he met the MC who doesn't have any cheating tricks but a warm heart and a beautiful optimism which I know it's going to heal his physical scars and also his emotional scars. Both of them are learning to have... more>> someone who you can trust and someone who really care about you. Until I really like the direction of the story, I will hope it keeps going this way. <<less

I LOVE IT!!! If you've read Our Second Master and you wanted it to be longer and had more details of relationship development, you really should read it NOW !!! I'm only on chapter 300, but I can already say it's brilliant. Don't worry about the number of chapters, they are really short and very well written.

I decided to read this novel because a reviewer said that it's similar to the novella Our Second Master. If you enjoyed that story, you will love this novel. Unlike OSM, there's some political intrigue but don't expect a lot of face slapping. This is a slice of life story with a large helping of romance. Expect warm, fuzzy feelings and many lovable side characters. There are 2 BL subplots.

This is one of the few CN novels I read in which the FL is more developed. She has a mysterious... more>> background. Usually, it's the ML that goes through a lot of character changes and, because of this, he is often more interesting. BTW, this ML is NOT the cold, arrogant type you often come across. Both of them are vulnerable and weak. They gradually become stronger.

For people that don't like harems, you should know that the ML had concubines in the past but he never slept with them.

ML was poisoned at a young age. As a result, he had ED and became sterile.

Some may find the story to be a bit plodding but this is a character driven narrative. The novel rotates between the countryside and the Imperial Palace. In the country, the CP go about their daily routine cooking. The MC helps the ML become healthy again. In the Imperial Palace, the Emperor's consorts and their adult sons jockey for power. One of the princes is a top contender for the throne, but he has a secret: he and his bodyguard are in love. The prince will be executed if his father finds out. His mother wants him to marry someone from a powerful family, who will help him become emperor.

The MC doesn't know her true identity. So this is a mystery. This is because her family was abolished and she was sent to work at the Palace as a s*ave when she was very young. She isn't ugly. She just has a large scar from a fire.

There's a happy ending. It's actually really sweet, and one of my favorites. <<less

Beautiful story between a 32 yr old banished prince and a 16 yr old convicted s*ave. Very sweet and heartwarming especially the years where they spent in the rural village and how they remained grounded even after reaching the peak of glory. This JJ Lin song (只对你说) summarizes the relationship between the 2 very well.

사랑해요 (Saranghaeyo) means I love you

代表着我 离不开你
It means I cannot live without you

每分每秒 每一个声音
Every minute, every second, every sound

只有你撒娇 会让我微笑
When you act coy and cute, it makes me smile

사랑해요 只对你说
Saranghaeyo, these words I will only say them to you

I will love you and forevermore

我答应 baby, you will see
I promise baby, you will see

每一个我都属于你
Every part and facet of me belongs to you

Overall, 4.5/5 I wished the author included a few epilogues on their children and the children of the main cast.

This was a delight. The OTP is the best in any cnovel I’ve read. I never got tired of reading even after switching to MTL. (There are 1304 chapters total!)

So romantic... so many great characters. So much HEA!

I do wish there’d been a bit more drama/face slapping but the slice of life never got boring and the political intrigue got more interesting the farther along you read.

If you like age gaps or hurt/comfort this will be your bag. So freaking good! Get you a man like Zhong Mingwei.
